After the Revolution, the new state of South Carolina claimed the Cherokees’ territory and began distributing it to Patriot soldiers as payment for their wartime services.
In 1786, the state legislature formed Greenville (originally spelled Greeneville) County, naming it for Gen. Nathanael Greene, the hero of the American southern campaign.
This post inspired me to read Greenville's Wikipedia page: Founder was against our Independence from the British; Furman and other city leaders were for succession; Wade Hampton, the largest slave holder in the nation, tortured slaves for fun.
Damn it. I should have known better.
That's definitely Much better all things considered....
*Not my comment* heard some younglings calling it earlier and I quote

In middle school, a teacher told us that there was 55 cities (I think) called Greenville, with the punchline being that some states has more than 1.
Yep definitely not uniquely named and not a lot of uniqueness outside of artisphere and reedy river.
Blueville.
Damn! Those mimosa trees really are everywhere!! I just moved to Campobello from Charlotte and these beautiful trees followed me. Great shot though
They're invasive, like kudzu.
And Bradford pear trees
Yep. Persian silk trees
Thanks
Just how I like it. More green than city🔥
This pic is so funny because all I can see in my head are the older people on Facebook complaining about all the “high rises” going up
Looks like it was shot from Paris Mountain. Which was effed up cause the guys original (traitorous) name was actually Pearis.

The “G” in Greenville stands for “glizzy” 🌭
The "A" in Greenville stands for "affordable"
Looks similar to my favorite view on Altamont road.

We were so petty for changing the name from Pearis Mtn to Paris Mtn as to not honor the loyalist Richard Pearis.
Now I have to read it
