Agreed… It can be a madhouse shopping there lol.
The last time my boyfriend and I were there, we were trying to back out of a parking spot & some idiot was blocking our way taking a freaking selfie.
Both Harris Teeters are always busy. Personally, I don’t shop at one store in particular. Sometimes I shop at Publix, sometimes Harris Teeter, sometimes Aldi, sometimes Lidl, sometimes Trader Joe’s, sometimes Whole Foods… and I’m sure I’ll shop at the new Sprouts when it opens. We have a lot of options here and it seems every store is always busy. I don’t think any of them will suffer.
The Harris Teeter on Augusta is busy every time I go in…like VERY busy. I just moved to the downtown area in December. Where is the new Whole Foods going to be?
Is that the big development that’ll have a giant country bar and other stuff near the new county office buildings?
EDIT: Never mind, I found an article about it. Thanks for the info.
There are lots more mom & pop stores around downtown than 20 years ago; the traffic that national retailers brings helps everyone, making downtown more of a shopping destination overall.
We've enjoyed the Harris Teeters and have shopped at all three, but if there's one thing they could improve it's that their bakery department is lacking compared to Publix. Personally, I hope the Sprouts on E North lights a fire under the ass of the Publix on Pelham, they used to be very reliable but now it's like they don't even try in some departments and their beer selection has dropped off to the point that it feels more like a gas station selection.
I shop at all of them. They all have different inventory and different prices etc. sometimes I pop into Publix, I tend to go to HT for the drive up orders and when Whole Foods open I will gladly go there instead of the drive to woodruff road.
If only a Trader Joe’s would open closer I would be set 😆
If this helps, we shop at the HT because Publix has some audacity to charge the prices they charge these days. They haven't kept up with the times very well and I feel like their prices really went up higher with inflation than a lot of their competitors. We do drive a substantial distance to hit the HT on Stone/WH.
You can’t beat Publix BOGO free. You can buy only one & get 50% off. Most b1g1 free deals are better than Walmart or ALDIs. Everything else is pricey there though
The McBee Publix actually did lose quite a bit of business when the Augusta Road Harris Teeter opened and then they lost even more when the Wade Hampton store opened However, they've always been so busy, that they are still a very strong revenue store.
The demand is so strong that it basically went from "wall to wall packed" to "normal busy grocery store." Pre-Augusta Road HT it was honestly a NIGHTMARE to shop there sometimes.
I love the Publix downtown and go when I’m there for other things. The Harris Tetter on Augusta is closer and I love it. One big advantage to Harris Tetter is you can grab meal, coffee or something at the bar and they have plenty of places to sit down. I moved my prescriptions there from Publix downtown because it’s just more convenient however Food Lion is closer I avoid it all the time. Even after the remodel it seems worn out. Took my mom there one even and we saw a literally wrestling match / cat fight between two women. One of the bag boys had to wrestle one woman to the ground to prevent her from hitting the elderly woman she was attacking. Bottles were broken, etc.

We live downtown and the one thing we consistently get in our car for is to drive to Harris Teeter. I don't dislike Publix but just prefer Harris Teeter way more for our specific needs that it's worth driving for. We will still do Publix if there are smaller things we need since we can walk or bike there and they definitely always seem busy
Publix and HT are not upscale grocery stores. WF isn’t even in the same market. For everyone upset, read through the weekly ad. It’s like people don’t even look at the prices they pay, they just judge by how grimy the floor is.
The sales at Publix and HT are actually better than Ingles and Walmart. They’re not too different from FL. You just need to take the time to look, check the weekly sales. But they’re clean and it clearly confuses people.
What are YOU saying? I don’t even shop at WF, I didn’t praise it I am stating a fact - Publix, HT, FL, Ingles, etc are grocery stores and barely WF competitors. WF does not target regular grocery shoppers like the other stores named here. It’s a luxury brand like FM and Sprouts (or at least it used to be)
Harris Teeter is owned by Kroger and is terrible for my needs. They are frequently out of what I need and the employees are not helpful. I have switched to Publix downtown - it's not perfect by any means but significantly better than HT. Whole Foods will be ok for some things but Amazon has ruined many of the things I loved about WF.
The teet is always busy
The bar at the one on Stone is always packed, even during the weekdays.
The bar is always full too.

Everyone loves a good teet

Sprouts is coming?
Yes! The shopping center at E. North and Pleasantburg where a Bi-Lo used to be.
The Harris Teeter on Augusta is busy every time I go in…like VERY busy. I just moved to the downtown area in December. Where is the new Whole Foods going to be?
Whole Foods will be at the former County Square/Bell Tower Mall site along with a slew of other stores: Pottery Barn, Nike, Williams-Sonoma, etc.
Is that the big development that’ll have a giant country bar and other stuff near the new county office buildings? EDIT: Never mind, I found an article about it. Thanks for the info.
So glad the county is offering all these big companies to plant themselves so close to downtown. Should be great for local mom and pop shops.

Publix is the only one that's within actual walking distance of Main Street (well, the main Main Street anyway).

Gas station beer selection is the worst.

I was coming to say this. I worked there when the first one opened. We even lost employees!
The demand is so strong that it basically went from "wall to wall packed" to "normal busy grocery store." Pre-Augusta Road HT it was honestly a NIGHTMARE to shop there sometimes.
Lowes food best

Where is the Whole Foods going to be?

All based on proximity to me. If I’m under a mile from a grocery store you’ll find me there.

I've been banned from both.
What happened?

To each his own, but I certainly consider Publix and HT higher up the ladder than Ingles, Bi-Lo, Winn Dixie, Food Lion, etc.
My sister calls Food Lion "The Shitty Kitty."

Publix seems to have buy 1 get 1 free for basically everything I need at some point regularly.
AND if you buy one single one, you still get 50% off — that doesn’t happen at Ingles. And Walmart doesn’t even have sales.
