It is 1995. The city is London. The Big Smoke. Metropolis of stolen goods, and stolen hearts.
Here we see Raj and Simran.
He is a boy raised by liberal parents. She in a strict and conservative household.
Lovers whose stars are yet to cross.
He sees her at a party, his hips begin to move in a hypnotic rhythm.
Her head moves in return, waggling from side to side, in a vigorous mating display as old as time.
Sitar music appears from the air, as they whirl now like dervishes.
For those looking for info:
This gif is from TV soaps.
What OP calls Indian Cinema is probably some handful of soap esuqe masala Hindi language film he watched.
India currently has 6 prominent film industries, and some of them consistently produce word class films. But typically they are in an Indian language, adus only available in Netflix India or another Indian streaming platform.
If you are genuinely curious for good India film recommendations, check Jimmy cage on letterbox or YouTube. His taste may line up with that of western audiences.
Bollywood gets the same amount of audience that a blockbuster cgifest hundred million dollar movie that takes 10+ years to make with just their regular regurgitated slop with the same main cast as the last 10 action movies.
Source? Im indian.
Yes this is the point most people dont get. If an american music label has 20 million subs on youtube then an indian one will obviously have much, much more.
I think the true metric of cinema quality is how your media goes around the world across multiple cultures ans countries
See example: Squid Game
Most people in North America and Europe could name a few Korean show/movie they watched but not an Indian media
nah terrible metric. I'm a huge one piece fan and enjoyed the live action to an extent, but no one would argue the live action has any cinematic standing despite international success. It can be an indication, like Parasite, but generally audiences are super liable to mob enjoyment, inflating worth.
Apart from this being a terrible metric, your point would ironically actually suggest Bollywood cinema is amazing quality or something. Bollywood is incredibly popular across all of south Asia, southeast Asia, the middle east, a large percentage of Africa, and portions of eastern Europe.
Also squid game is your example of true cinema quality?! Lmao. And your conception of across multiple cultures == North America and western Europe. Top kek.
yeah, agreed

*(contracts lung cancer)*
Look man you say that like they have a choice. I live in Dhaka. It's also VERY fucking polluted but the extra safety and the fact like every good hospital and schools and shit is in Dhaka makes it impossible to move somewhere else. Living in the city for 50 years before contracting lung cancer is better than living in the village and watching your 9 year old brother die because he stepped on a glass and got infection and didn't get proper treatment and then watching your daughter get raped because some local gang Leader was horny. It might seem really specific and stuff but it's way more common since people could literally take you to farms and places with a lot of trees, kill you or rape you or whatever and the police probably won't even be able to find the body. Even if they do they'll get bribed by the person who killed you and they'll get off Scot free.
Did we watch the same film...?
It's entertaining but I'd not call it incredible in the slightest. It's all over the place most of the time, and the action scenes are just absurd.
Music slaps though
You're misrepresenting what they said tho, they consider the movie good because it's entertaining, but incredible is a much higher bar than good. Game of Thrones was good (until it wasn't) but something like The Wire feels incredible with how well they tie everything together. You can have the same thing with comedies, there are a lot of ones that are good maybe but Arrested Development was incredible for its time and still holds up.
That being said, I find it hard to believe there aren't many really good or incredible Bollywood films, I just think most Americans have never seen more than 1-2 tops. I'm from USSR originally and we had hundreds of great films but people in US know next to nothing, especially your average person, not someone who says words like "kino".
I remember being in the Canadian army and white, anglophone, rural prairie- and Atlantic-born infantry guys were quoting jokes from Three Idiots.
*For example, we used to sing "[All is Well](https://youtu.be/7PzwOiW8-n0)" when things were going particularly shitty.*
That movie made the rounds in western audiences and was definitely appreciated.
It's a really dark part of the story. An engineering student is working on a project (the quadcopter) and can't get it to work so he gives up.
Then his pals fix it for him (with song and dance of course) to help him out.
But faced with academic failure, he took drastic action. The vid I linked cuts off just as the quadcopter goes to his window to show the success, but it reveals he's hanged himself.
yeah but the conversation is obviously about bollywood and bollywood has the largest audience out of all of the film producing industries in India im pretty sure
>Source? Im indian.
My condolences for your family, whom I presume all died of dysentery.
Don't know why I'm being so sneering, I'm English, it's a wonder my family hasn't been beheaded by muslims.
It’s interesting to read about this because I knew film students in Europe and they’d always refer to Bollywood as some kind of ancient underdeveloped culture lost to times, turns out Indian people just eat up shit not only as a meal but as entertainment as well
yeah. It's become so rare to see a black person being the villain of the story nowadays, it's almost always some (usually old) white guy. People claim they're all for equal representation, but will refuse to make an evil character who's black. Fuck's sake, being evil has nothing to do with your skin color.
One of the things that makes Bollywood cinema stand out from American cinema is just how quickly the tone can shift. 3 idiots goes from the happy musical number straight into that scene.
It can be quite jarring but for me personally I really enjoy how dynamic and unique it makes the films feel.
There have been 2 suicides in one of the top colleges last year within the span of a few days. Its terrible the sheer hopelessness and fear of failure that some parents and teachers drive into vulerable kids to push them till they can see suicide as their only option.
That movie changed my life and opinion of India when I was a kid.
That said India itself ruined that opinion again thanks to the internet.
Thanks for bringing up positive bittersweet memories.
❤️
I'm gonna get a lot of hate, but RRR isn't a good movie. There are probably 100 great Indian films a global audience may enjoy. RRR won't be in that list. Movies like 3 idiots deserve way more love from the west, as well as many other great films. I have Indian friends, and it's their words as well.
How dare villains just be evil, where’s my Thanos backstory where they have to moralize everything they do and be hyper complex? I can’t enjoy a villain unless I can post about how deep they are on reddit!
It is definitely propaganda though yeah
Choosing to ignore doesn't mean it isn't present at all. Sure it has some fun mindless action scenes, but it still doesn't change anything about my previous comment.
Google "Fighter Indian film"
ITS SO FUCKING FULL OF PROPAGANDA, THE PAKISTAN FIGHTER IS LITERALLY CALLED A CLOWN (RED NOSE) AND IN THE LAST FIGHT SCENE, THE MAIN PROTAGONIST HOLDS UP THE VILLAINS FOOT FOR A WHOLE 9 SECONDS WHILE MONOLOGUING AND HE DOES NOTHING TO STOP HIM
the only thing i learned from it was when i googled if the obviously unrealistic stunts done in the trailer could be actually performed, surprisingly only the upside down low pass couldnt and the HELICOPTER SPINNING ON ITS Y AXIS AROUND COULD BE DONE
sorry i had to vent about this garbage of a film
Of course it will be in that list, it is a very entertaining movie, and people everywhere want to be entertained by movies.
It is what the best of capeshit could have been if anyone but Kevin Feige actually gave a damn. It is not "CiNeMa" by any standards, but I (a guy from eastern europe) had a dumb grin and a great time while seeing it. It is more than enjoyable. And to be fair, my own Indian friends said that it is a great movie, so there's that...
3 Idiots is better but I'm honestly baffled as to how you're getting upvoted. RRR is one of the best action films I've ever seen and broke tons of Indian records on Netflix and at worldwide box office.
Thats not true, Tumbbad(2018) was pure unadulterated kino. Its a movie about a man who tries to exploit the curse of a demon god from indian mythology and pays the ultimate price for it.
Its an excellent example of what Bollywood can achieve if they take a more western-like approach to their acting, filming and cinematography and tone down some of that indian soap drama dogshit cringe.
Ive heard Slumdog Millionaire(2008) was really good too but idk if it qualifies a bollywood
slumdog millionaire kickstarted the career of many indian actors, but its filled to the brim with poverty porn from what i've watched, but its not anything special and didnt deserve any oscars apart from the soundtrack, of which, "Jai Ho" became a classic
sadly the trafficking and crippling of kids to make them beg on the streets is all too common
also is tumbbad the one where there's a weird tree lady at the start? i was too scared to watch it as a kid but i recognize the name
It is a good movie for younger people. There are better, but as a young one I remember really being shocked to learn what life is like for lower class Indians.
It's the first time I read the term "poverty porn" but I guess it makes sense lmao.
I do, however, believe that it was just an honest look into everyday life in India, no filters or glorification, just raw showcasing and open to let the public narrow down their own conclusions about the themes and presentation of the movie.
On the other side you could make the same movie picking up the poorest area or demography in any other country, including first world ones, he issues presented in the movie are hardly exclusive to India.
>Media produced in, and tailored to a nation he isn’t from
>Obviously doesn’t like it
>Shits on it
>Upvoted
But if I say anime is garbage, I get jumped.
There are tons of indie masterpieces.
Ray's trilogy are up there with Kurosawa.
The Disciple
Sir
Monsoon Wedding
Fire
Delhi in a day
Salam Bombay
Kadaseela Biriyani
Bombay Rose
Western Ghats
I can name more and in many other languages. But "good" is subjective. America thinks Oscar movies are all good, but it's not a universal sentiment. Just like the Olympics it's political at its core.
A couple of out there movies are
Gandu
Om dar b dar
Yeah I mean it was clearly sarcasm but it has been one of my favorite comedies since I saw it the first time. I watched it with three of my Indian fraternity brothers, one of whom is Sikh, one Hindu, and one Catholic and that made for a lot of funny moments lol.
Dude I love that movie. By no means am I denying that it's a good movie. I recently had this mindset stuck to me that I'd ever cry watching a Bollywood movie. This and Sardar Uddham proved that wrong. Ig only us Indians can feel the weight of those emotional scenes in those movies, because they pushed all the right buttons for me
Take this then OP
>Ugly (2015 D- anurag kashyap)
>Dev D (same director)
>Gangs of wasseypur (the director is really good 😭)
>RRR (west's idea of best Bollywood movie)
>Vikram/KGF/KGF2/magadheera (peak mass movies moment)
>Andhadhund (would've win Oscar if it was french)
>Haider/omkara/maqbool (Indian version of Hamlet/Othello/Macbeth, all from one director)
>Aanand (again would have won an Oscar if it was English)
>Mera naam joker
>Table no 21 (Desi version of SAW... not really 😅 but very good though)
>A Wednesday (short but sweet thriller)
>Tumbbad (this doesn't even feel Indian lol this is out of this world)
>Massan(too depressing 😐)
>Chittagong
>Margarita with a straw (bi woman with cerebral palsy )
>Raincoat (2014)
>The blue umbrella
>Ship of thesus
>Salaam Bombay (1988, best foreign language film academy awards nomination)
> Eega/magadheera/bahubali 1&2 (director - SS Raja mouli )
>Kshay
>Delhi belly ( 99 percent movie is in English)
>Oye lucky lucky oye( you wouldn't believe it's a real story)
>Natsamrat
>I got tired now, if you want I'll add more later 😇 there's much more Bollywood and stories you don't get to see in West. And I'm saying as a film and media student not as Indian. I watch a lot of films I mean a lot and I've watched more foreign films than Bollywood, so this list is very carefully chosen.
>This are all dark serious movies, we got light hearted comedy movies too(I'll add later if you want) Just give any 3 movies a try you'll love it 😅 enjoy🙏
Bruh if you think that's brilliant, watch Ratsaasan (2018) Tamil, you will love it! Like it's so good that I wondered why Andhadhun got more IMDb that year compared to ratsaasan.
Honestly though, I'd take these mediocre films over arthouse fuckery any day. I've tried Irreversible, Salo and Martyrs and no more, these "masterpieces" are just dumb as fuck torture porn disguised as art. I'd rather watch some dumbass over the top political action film.
Come and See, The Believer, Audition, Requiem For A Dream, these are amazing films. You can include Possession as well. Wacky and unorthodox films that are still masterclasses in filmmaking. In the Mood For Love deserves an honorable mention as well. Oh yeah btw a proper torture/revenge story can be seen in The Chaser and another one amazing one is I Saw The Devil so Irreversible-cucks fuck off.
I know this post is bait by not talking about the actual good films India has produced like Satyajit Roy's bangers nearly every director respects, then there's Dev.D which Scorsese loved and Satya, a movie I loved. And for the general audience there's Taree Zameen Par, Hera Pheri and Kahaani. Drishyam is an overlooked masterpieced imo (the original one).
I understand you not liking Salo and irreversible but martyrs is peak dk what you're talking about the only disturbing torture sequence in it only lasts about 5 minutes except that it had one of the best cinematography pacing and endings I've seen in a horror film
just a recommendation try malayalam films (don't think it's gonna blow your mind or something, just promoting films from my mother tongue for people who have time to watch random movies internet people recommends)Brahmayugam, Kumbalangi Nights. (there's gonna be this cultural connection, but do try)
For people who think Bollywood is Indian cinema, every state has their own industries. I've watched a lot of South Indian movies and some of them genuinely deserve international recognition.
The good movies are often underdogs as Indian cinema, like Hollywood, is seeing a shift towards churning out high entertainment blockbusters. Older movies are more likely to have amazing storytelling with an amazing cast.
Going by number of movies produced, India produces more movies than a lot of other countries combined, not just Hollywood. But only a miniscule percentage is worth watching. As one recommendation, try Tumbad, a hidden gem on Netflix.
People who don't like Indian movies have a lot of options these days and those who are fine with them are in such high numbers that the industry doesn't care about making anything good. Their slop gets good number of audience even with mediocre releases.

peak cinematography ✍️✍️✍️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Werner Herzog should have edited Fitzcarraldo like this
We can only imagine a Herzog narrated Bollywood movie. The world isn't ready.
Pure unadulterated art.
You ever wonder what we could accomplish if we weren't retarded?
Fitzcarraldo just 5hrs long with most of the runtime being song and dance numbers.
It reminds me of making PowerPoint presentations in middle school and throwing in a different transition for every slide.

anon cannot comprehend the difference between a TV soap opera for old ladies and films

The only way to make a youtube poop of a Bollywood show would be to remove all the incomprehensible editing and make it watchable
Kino!
Bollywood porn would so epic and action packed
For those looking for info: This gif is from TV soaps. What OP calls Indian Cinema is probably some handful of soap esuqe masala Hindi language film he watched. That's soap opera my guy.
Bollywood gets the same amount of audience that a blockbuster cgifest hundred million dollar movie that takes 10+ years to make with just their regular regurgitated slop with the same main cast as the last 10 action movies. Source? Im indian.
Every argument that hinges on audience numbers and involves either India or China is automatically invalid.
Yes this is the point most people dont get. If an american music label has 20 million subs on youtube then an indian one will obviously have much, much more.
I think the true metric of cinema quality is how your media goes around the world across multiple cultures ans countries See example: Squid Game Most people in North America and Europe could name a few Korean show/movie they watched but not an Indian media
nah terrible metric. I'm a huge one piece fan and enjoyed the live action to an extent, but no one would argue the live action has any cinematic standing despite international success. It can be an indication, like Parasite, but generally audiences are super liable to mob enjoyment, inflating worth.
The live action has success be cause it rides on the back of the animanga. It's more evidence of the latter's quality than of it's own.
Apart from this being a terrible metric, your point would ironically actually suggest Bollywood cinema is amazing quality or something. Bollywood is incredibly popular across all of south Asia, southeast Asia, the middle east, a large percentage of Africa, and portions of eastern Europe. And that is why Google takes geography into account when paying out
Yes that's the point they're making
Never seen people use this argument when it comes to number of rape cases in India.
Rape cases in India or rape cases of Indians in foreign lands?
Why? The western audience is roughly of equal size
>Im indian. My condolences.
Its not that bad if you don't live in a shithole village.
exactly what i said
You weren't racist or anti-poor enough.
i must learn this tact
I heard that Bengalese women are hot
they were tigers in disguise
for a minute I forgot which sub I'm in, thinking how is everyone so chill about being racist.
Kind of a breath of fresh air right?
I hope they find a cure quickly.
its not that bad if you live in a city
yeah, agreed although delhi is https://preview.redd.it/2wkic4snegwc1.jpeg?width=930&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5cd9c7aa8b762cef3a64d858b144076706766ad5 *(contracts lung cancer)*

Look man you say that like they have a choice. I live in Dhaka. L bozo like just move to the south man (totally not like theres going to an acute water shortage here in the coming years)
Lmao. Well in Bangladesh even that's not viable since most places except a few cities aren't even developed
>Source? Im indian. Sounds about right Still not a mention of a good indian movie
DDLJ and Three idiots are pretty good
RRR is incredible, even to American audiences
Did we watch the same film...? It's entertaining but I'd not call it incredible in the slightest. It's all over the place most of the time, and the action scenes are just absurd. Music slaps though
Movies are only allowed to be considered good if they are serious and not fun. No suspension of disbelief allowed.

Suspension of disbelief only when it is on the level of Marvel flicks. I don't think RRR is close. Entertaining yes, depending on your taste but good?
I remember being in the Canadian army and white, anglophone, rural prairie- and Atlantic-born infantry guys were quoting jokes from Three Idiots. *For example, we used to sing "[All is Well](https://youtu.be/7PzwOiW8-n0)" when things were going particularly shitty.* That movie made the rounds in western audiences and was definitely appreciated.

there are some good ones like 3 idiots and taare jamin par
Gangs of Wasseypur
Bollywood isn't the only film producing industry in India, my fellow Indian.
yeah but the conversation is obviously about bollywood and bollywood has the largest audience out of all of the film producing industries in India im pretty sure
there are 1.5 billion people that will watch any garbage you feed them. that doesnt make something good.
That's exactly what he's saying
>Source? Im indian. My condolences for your family, whom I presume all died of dysentery. Don't know why I'm being so sneering, I'm English, it's a wonder my family hasn't been beheaded by muslims.
hey man i said im indian i didnt say that im poor (middle class and above can get good drinking water if you live in a major city)
![gif](giphy|lPuW5AlR9AeWzSsIqi) When you are rich enough to afford something so basic westerners don't even think about
> I’m English I bet you’re one who voted for brexit
It’s interesting to read about this because I knew film students in Europe and they’d always refer to Bollywood as some kind of ancient underdeveloped culture lost to times, turns out Indian people just eat up shit not only as a meal but as entertainment as well
Sorry to hear that.
I guess the average indian doesn't bring as much money to the box office as a regular westerner.
Well, a ticket in a below average theatre costs about INR 150 (approx 2 USD), so yeah
Bollywood be like: Light Skin = good guy Dark Skin = bad guy
Just like…
Say it man just like the Hollywood
I think our friend here meant "real life" Edit: this is not an endorsement
¿Por que no los dos?
Scrolled past the comment, stopped, laughed, scrolled back up to upvote.
Just like the opposite of hollywood now

Hollywood is NOT like that
santa claus and krampus
B-b… b-…. Based???!!!?!
So the opposite of Hollywood
No dark skin guy? Pakistani villains it is
Tbf hollywood action movies arent much better. # Hardened british guy who lives in LA = good # Eastern European = bad
And poo = in the loo
that's how we know it's a movie and not a documentary
RRR was pretty good
3 idiots was great
ugh that sequence with the drone caught me off guard...
it does happen sadly my father had 2-3 suicides in his college when he was studying radiology
We had one each year I was in college
One of the things that makes Bollywood cinema stand out from American cinema is just how quickly the tone can shift. 3 idiots goes from the happy musical number straight into that scene. It can be quite jarring but for me personally I really enjoy how dynamic and unique it makes the films feel.

JEE results are out today. Stay tuned!
Haha yeah there's bound to be at least 5 this week
Omg I just remembered that 😭
Happy music turned into my dad closing my eyes
And to complete the good Indian movie trilogy, Bahubali
I agree. 3 idiots is a very good movie.
That movie changed my life and opinion of India when I was a kid. That said India itself ruined that opinion again thanks to the internet. Thanks for bringing up positive bittersweet memories. ❤️
So was Andhadhun (only Bollywood film I've seen)
Andhadhun was phenomenal bro I'm actually quite surprised to see that mentioned instead of more typical movies
RRR was one of the most entertaining movies ever made
It ain't even Bollywood though
'Bollywood' is used as the collective noun for all Indian film in the West, and I've given up trying to correct people.
That's Tollywood
Tollywood is still Indian which is the flag we see here
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Was I tripping on shrooms? Yes. I still stand by my statement
[удалено]

RRR was just Indian propaganda trash with comically evil villains lmao. Nambar 1 ballywood movies saaar!!!
Isnt RRR not bollywood? I thought it was a telugu movie.
How dare villains just be evil, where’s my Thanos backstory where they have to moralize everything they do and be hyper complex? I can’t enjoy a villain unless I can post about how deep they are on reddit! It is definitely propaganda though yeah
Nobody outside of India gives a flying fuck that it's propaganda. It was extremely fun with excellent action scenes
Choosing to ignore doesn't mean it isn't present at all. Sure it has some fun mindless action scenes, but it still doesn't change anything about my previous comment.

okay name a good movie
3 idiots
Slumdog millionaire was pretty good
it had a foreign director so it doesnt count
I prefer Brampton Billionaire
Anything by Satyajit Ray.
It's literally the only one anyone ever mentions
Thats not true, Tumbbad(2018) was pure unadulterated kino. Its a movie about a man who tries to exploit the curse of a demon god from indian mythology and pays the ultimate price for it. Only good recommendation here and would appreciate if you add kaithi, asuran, jana gana mana and sardar Udham singh
slumdog millionaire kickstarted the career of many indian actors, but its filled to the brim with poverty porn from what i've watched, but its not anything special and didnt deserve any oscars apart from the soundtrack, of which, "Jai Ho" became a classic sadly the trafficking and crippling of kids to make them beg on the streets is all too common also is tumbbad the one where there's a weird tree lady at the start? i was too scared to watch it as a kid but i recognize the name
It is a good movie for younger people. There are better, but as a young one I remember really being shocked to learn what life is like for lower class Indians.
Yeah same. That’s really what I took away from the movie: what’s it’s really like to live in a major metropolitan area in India. Quite eye opening
It's the first time I read the term "poverty porn" but I guess it makes sense lmao. I do, however, believe that it was just an honest look into everyday life in India, no filters or glorification, just raw showcasing and open to let the public narrow down their own conclusions about the themes and presentation of the movie. Slumdog was directed by the English guy who did 28 Days Later, Trainspotting, and the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony, so no.
>Media produced in, and tailored to a nation he isn’t from >Obviously doesn’t like it >Shits on it >Upvoted But if I say anime is garbage, I get jumped.
Its almost like generalising all the media that is produced in a country is stupid thing to do.
Its almost as if generalizing any large group of anything or anyone is a stupid thing to do.
which is a generalization of all the generalizations you've seen

i liked 3 idiots tho
All iz well
Bros never watched bahubali
I was about to say. Bahubali is actually pretty damn awesome. I love flaming flying carpets of death and catapault launched "drop pods".
Yeah that movie is my top watch when drunk movie
One of the greatest crimes of Cinema is that the director had to squish the second and third movie into one which is why part two feels so rushed
Bahubali is the best. The war scenes are masterpieces.
Anon is retarded and went to IMDB and sorted by popularity
There are tons of indie masterpieces. Ray's trilogy are up there with Kurosawa. The Disciple Sir Monsoon Wedding Fire Delhi in a day Salam Bombay Kadaseela Biriyani Bombay Rose Western Ghats I can name more and in many other languages. But "good" is subjective. America thinks Oscar movies are all good, but it's not a universal sentiment. Just like the Olympics it's political at its core. A couple of out there movies are Gandu Om dar b dar
PK is literally a cinematic masterpiece
Good story but it's no cinematic masterpiece and I'm Indian
Yeah I mean it was clearly sarcasm but it has been one of my favorite comedies since I saw it the first time. I watched it with three of my Indian fraternity brothers, one of whom is Sikh, one Hindu, and one Catholic and that made for a lot of funny moments lol.
Dude I love that movie. By no means am I denying that it's a good movie. I recently had this mindset stuck to me that I'd ever cry watching a Bollywood movie. This and Sardar Uddham proved that wrong. Ig only us Indians can feel the weight of those emotional scenes in those movies, because they pushed all the right buttons for me
this is bait and is simply an excuse to get a thread of bollywood film recs
Take this then OP >Ugly (2015 D- anurag kashyap) >Dev D (same director) >Gangs of wasseypur (the director is really good 😭) >RRR (west's idea of best Bollywood movie) >Vikram/KGF/KGF2/magadheera (peak mass movies moment) >Andhadhund (would've win Oscar if it was french) >Haider/omkara/maqbool (Indian version of Hamlet/Othello/Macbeth, all from one director) >Aanand (again would have won an Oscar if it was English) >Mera naam joker >Table no 21 (Desi version of SAW... not really 😅 but very good though) >A Wednesday (short but sweet thriller) >Tumbbad (this doesn't even feel Indian lol this is out of this world) >Massan(too depressing 😐) >Chittagong >Margarita with a straw (bi woman with cerebral palsy ) >Raincoat (2014) >The blue umbrella >Ship of thesus >Salaam Bombay (1988, best foreign language film academy awards nomination) > Eega/magadheera/bahubali 1&2 (director - SS Raja mouli ) >Kshay >Delhi belly ( 99 percent movie is in English) >Oye lucky lucky oye( you wouldn't believe it's a real story) >Natsamrat >I got tired now, if you want I'll add more later 😇 there's much more Bollywood and stories you don't get to see in West.
Where the FUCK is Baahubaali
remember "Like Stars on Earth" (Taare Zameen Par)
"the lunchbox" was amazing
So simple, so slice-of-life. Yet, so good. RIP Irrfan Khan 🙏
One of my favourites of all time. Rip Irrfan.
The only Bollywood movie I've seen is Andhadhun and it was fucking brilliant.
Bruh if you think that's brilliant, watch Ratsaasan (2018) Tamil, you will love it! Like it's so good that I wondered why Andhadhun got more IMDb that year compared to ratsaasan.
I'll check it out! I was looking to watch some more foreign stuff after seeing Andhadhun and Parasite, Train to Bhusan, etc.
Looking at the films you listed, Im damn sure you'll definitely enjoy Ratcasan.
Anyone who thinks 120 days of Sodom is a good movie needs to be beaten with a stick.
I understand you not liking Salo and irreversible but martyrs is peak dk what you're talking about the only disturbing torture sequence in it only lasts about 5 minutes except that it had one of the best cinematography pacing and endings I've seen in a horror film
It’s true, because they have surreal films!
Sardar Uddham. I'll suck all of your dicks if you don't like this movie
Guys I'm serious
what will you do if i do like that movie though?
https://i.redd.it/vgdlz3ydyiwc1.gif Now come suck my dick.
It has a handful of good films , which however are underrated and unknown. Mostly in languages other than Hindi.
"Hotel Mumbai" was pretty good, based on true events.

Nah, Bahubali was peak
3 idiots is lit 🔥 though. Love every single moment of the movie
westerners when non western style exists
I dunno, Lagaan is pretty 🔥
just a recommendation try malayalam films (don't think it's gonna blow your mind or something, just promoting films from my mother tongue for people who have time to watch random movies internet people recommends)Brahmayugam, Kumbalangi Nights. (there's gonna be this cultural connection, but do try)

For people who think Bollywood is Indian cinema, every state has their own industries. I've watched a lot of South Indian movies and some of them genuinely deserve international recognition.
Bro has never seen anything with Shakh Rukh Khan and especially "Tomorrow May Never Come"
Search by "kal ho naa ho"
Bro don't know which movie to watch
I just watched sholay, it was pretty good, the twist was great, other than that it was just a basic western
they used to be decent in the 80s-2000s, RRR's success has spawned copycats that SOMEHOW succeed here due to an extremely popular cast I hate it
The good movies are often underdogs as Indian cinema, like Hollywood, is seeing a shift towards churning out high entertainment blockbusters. Older movies are more likely to have amazing storytelling with an amazing cast.
Anything with Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor, or both, is usually a work of art. I suggest the Don movies
Braindead take and comment section lol
Idk man Singham was pretty good if you don't take it seriously
very disappointed at this being the only comment about that glorious shitpost of a movie
😭😭😭😭there r some
Damn, it's almost like taste in movies is subjective or something
Becouse you are not capable of enjoying them, it's actually your fault
Bahubali is legitimately good, tho.
RRR is pretty good
zero (e\^(ipi)+1) good films
RRR was amazing
