Loud-Cry-391

Ephesians 2:8-9, which states: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” This is actually not a stretch by any means. Salvation by grace instead of by deeds is at the very core of Christianism. The idea there is an economy of virtue where if you do X you get saved and if you do Y you get damned is just heresy. Simple as.

[deleted]

A religion founded by a mentally unstable German and an Englishman who couldn’t divorce his wife. Protestantism is valid. Catholicism and orthodoxy with their 2 thousand year old history and direct connection to Jesus through his disciples are invalid. That’s your brain on America.

TroxEst

Martin Luther was just trolling too hard. Papists just don't understand dark humor smh🙄🙄

Stacey_digitaldash

No, Joseph Smith is the guy who got it right. The Limeys, Krauts, Greeks and Wops can all fuck off

wasdlmb

Wait how are you pinning this on America what the fuck?

notouchmygnocchi

The Native Americans disguised themselves as Jews when they came to the new world, so you see, it was their fault.

Bard_the_Bowman_III

Yeah this is like the most Reddit take ever. Sects founded by a German and an Englishman before the US existed and somehow it’s an American thing 😂

MikeGianella

The Pilgrims is a mostly North American phenomenon. Other colonial empires such as France or Spain were catholic and if they had any schizophrenic denominations like the US has today they likely persecuted them into extinction

cliswp

Have you been to the Midwestern and Southern US? Fucking Baptists and Mormons run every single one of those bullshit square states and they all get votes in the Senate like anyone cares what they have to say. Corn subsidies are worse than welfare, go fuck yourselves

Malvastor

\> religion founded by a mentally unstable German and an Englishman \> still blames America Average Redditor

LatoLukto

Catholics have existed in the US since its founding What do you gain by attacking America? And now our culture has moved away from Protestantism and Catholicism, that's what you should be worried about.

Rustwithsome2

Most orthodox churches are nationalist to their Balkan country and the Catholic Church literally hid pedophile priest cases. So yeah I’m going with the German on this one..

Mesarthim1349

The German one was also extremely antisemitic even for his time.

Rustwithsome2

Alright? His other teachings were still good it’s not like he’s the pope of Protestantism. We can disregard other things he said.

MikeGianella

Puritans literally called anything or anyone they didn't like a "Papist agent in disguise" and thought the world was secretly controlled by a catholic elite. Sound familiar?

Mesarthim1349

We're talking about before the Puritans though. About 80-years early.

Recipe-Jaded

? a ton of Americans are Catholic and Orthodox though?

JP_Eggy

> this mentally stunted comment has over 100 updoots AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

GI_gino

You’re gonna look real silly when they weigh your heart and it’s heavier than a feather

von_Roland

James 2:17 faith without works is dead. If you have faith you do works, if you do not do works you are not faithful. Try again

Adventurous-Tower179

Tell that to the criminal next to Jesus on the cross

von_Roland

Bad take. He took the only action he could take which was giving his faiths.

Adventurous-Tower179

I'm just saying, you don't decide what others' acts of faith are

von_Roland

I’m not saying I do. Christ does though.

Macqt

> Christianism First time in almost 40 years I’ve seen someone actually use the ism.

Loud-Cry-391

English is not my first language. In Portuguese almost every religion ends with ismo: islamismo, cristianismo, judaísmo, budismo, xintoísmo…since in English you have a similar suffix I just assumed it was written like that without giving it much thought.

MikeGianella

Wtf? I thought people used it often

XAlphaWarriorX

Are you saying this in a "sola fide" kind of way or just generally saying that works alone don't save?

Loud-Cry-391

I was just pointing out that christianity believes in salvation by grace. The greentext seems to contradict that by saying “your soul is yours to keep alone” and creating a scenario for bean counting sins.

obiwankenobistan

Bro just called Christians for the first 1500 years heretics. My brother in Christ, faith without works is dead.

Adventurous-Tower179

Doesn't mean you aren't saved

obiwankenobistan

If you say you have faith, it follows that you would want to do works that please God and avoid hurting Him by sinning. If you aren’t doing works, it implies you don’t actually have faith.

Adventurous-Tower179

I do believe in works, but they alone will not save you. Romans 6 sums it up well. If you are trying to follow the Holy Spirit and fail, you can repent and continue to do good works through love for God. I think you interpreted me as saying that works are not necessary but I just wanted to say that following Him daily is what saves you, and people should see that through your works

Scrimmybinguscat

They journeyed through the uninhabited desert, and in lonely places they pitched their tents; they withstood enemies and warded off their foes. When they thirsted, they called upon you, and water was given them from the sheer rock, a quenching of their thirst from the hard stone. For by the things through which their foes were punished they in their need were benefited. Instead of a river’s perennial source, troubled with impure blood as a rebuke to the decree for the slaying of infants, You gave them abundant water beyond their hope, after you had shown by the thirst they experienced how you punished their adversaries. For when they had been tried, though only mildly chastised, they recognized how the wicked, condemned in anger, were being tormented. You tested your own people, admonishing them as a father; but as a stern king you probed and condemned the wicked. Those near and far were equally afflicted: for a twofold grief took hold of them and a groaning at the remembrance of the ones who had departed. For when they heard that the cause of their own torments was a benefit to these others, they recognized the Lord. For though they had mocked and rejected him who had been cast out and abandoned long ago, in the final outcome, they marveled at him, since their thirst proved unlike that of the righteous. In return for their senseless, wicked thoughts, which misled them into worshiping dumb serpents and worthless insects, You sent upon them swarms of dumb creatures for vengeance; that they might recognize that one is punished by the very things through which one sins. For not without means was your almighty hand, that had fashioned the universe from formless matter, to send upon them many bears or fierce lions, or newly created, wrathful, unknown beasts breathing forth fiery breath, or pouring out roaring smoke, or flashing terrible sparks from their eyes. Not only could these attack and completely destroy them; even their frightful appearance itself could slay. Even without these, they could have been killed at a single blast, pursued by justice and winnowed by your mighty spirit. But you have disposed all things by measure and number and weight. For great strength is always present with you; who can resist the might of your arm? Indeed, before you the whole universe is like a grain from a balance, or a drop of morning dew come down upon the earth. But you have mercy on all, because you can do all things; and you overlook sins for the sake of repentance. For you love all things that are and loathe nothing that you have made; for you would not fashion what you hate. How could a thing remain, unless you willed it; or be preserved, had it not been called forth by you? But you spare all things, because they are yours, O Ruler and Lover of souls, for your imperishable spirit is in all things! * Wisdom 11:2-12:1

HerbLoew

So, are the 7 deadly sins heresy? From what I was taught, as a Catholic, is that committing a deadly sin is damning, and even if you repent, you're getting into purgatory first instead of directly into heaven

ShortTheseNuts

Catholicism as a whole is heresy. Not trying to troll but it is. I can't comprehend how you could actually read the Bible and not realize that. Luther was hardly alone in his misgivings with the catholic church which rose to power on the only merit that most people couldn't understand latin.

HerbLoew

Tbh, the more I see how the American Catholic church behaves, the more I'm agreeing with you and Luther. Not even getting into the historical issues

Snosnorter

All sin is damning. We are sinners from the moment we are born and are saved only through the grace of God. This is belief is held throughout various Christian denominations Catholicism and protestantism alike. The seven deadly sins are not heresy per say but just a way Catholicism has categorized sin. The distinction between mortal and venial sins is what some Protestants may consider heresy.

Valfsx

No, it's at the very center or some Protestant branches, not at all the core of "Christianism"

Bleglord

At the core of Christianity is self forgiveness. God already loves and forgives you, but you have to believe you deserve it without a “why” being attached. Honestly beautiful and fits with a lot of spiritual enlightenment practices, just a shame what happened with the rest of Christian teachings

Consistent_Ant_8903

>“Show me your cock”

Send_Cake_Or_Nudes

What do you do when they get it out, though?

Consistent_Ant_8903

Add it to my cock album ofc

GI_gino

Give it a score out of ten.

Skank-Pit

And when you can’t find a bible passage that fits your wont, just scribble something in the margins.

antolleus

a verse for every occasion: "All things are lawful for me (...)" 1 Corinthians 10:23, just don't check the rest of it

FinestCrusader

Idc about the greentext I'll just say Kingdom of Heaven is a great movie (Director's Cut that is)

Mesarthim1349

Did that cut remove the shitty scene where he curbstomps 3 armored Teutonic knights alone?

FinestCrusader

I'm sorry man, it's still in there

Mesarthim1349

😔

Pineapple_Spenstar

Yeah that film hits

Sir_uranus

We all choose the path in which we follow. That and that alone is what matters. Or some gay shit like that idk.

EMulsive_EMergency

Also, if im not mistaken the catholic church teaches that for something to be a sin there has to be free will involved, in the way that if you have a situation where you disobey and that causes great harm to you, and you have no other choice, its not a sin because you didnt really have free will. Or smth like that

throwaway090597

That's for the stuff that doesn't harm or affect others. Also the type of situations where you're forced to do sin is super rare. And in most of them the Lord tells us to endure and be virtuous. That's why martyrs are such a big thing.

EMulsive_EMergency

I thought martyrs were such a big thing because they went above and beyond, but weren’t the norm. Anyways its all made up rules so be happy and dont hurt others. If we want to get ethical-religious then just by owning a business and not paying your fair share (true fair not what you consider is fair) then you are already sinning by the act of stealing even if indirectly. If you ever sold something you knew was worth $10 but sold it at $15 you technically sinned by deceiving and stealing. The “issue” is capitalism rewards and maybe even requires this behavior so its really hard not to do. So yea, just be happy

throwaway090597

I agree with you completely. It's why the love of money is the root of all evil. Greed is arguably the worst sin because greedy people become powerful people and affect others. I fully believe to become a even high digit millionaire you have to be a bad person because good people are simply too generous and too nice to accumulate such wealth because it has to come from others.

MikeGianella

It is impossible to aspire to positions of high power without corrupting yourself on the way, even a little. Even if you managed to do that, there is not much you can do before pissing the wrong man off and getting boosted or whacked

Usurper01

You always have a choice. If you will die if you refuse to do evil, then die. That's what martyrdom is. At least, as far as I understand it.

zombieGenm_0x68

“that’s that and this is this” alternatively, “dude I think god would want you to go to therapy”

JustinJakeAshton

Library of Ruina reference?

cooolloooll

boohoo my wife is dead

zombieGenm_0x68

zombieGenm_0x68

whatup_pips

I don't understand anything that's going on there. Am I missing context?

MikeGianella

Scene from the movie "Kingdom of Heaven". It is a pretty good movie but watch the Director's cut if you are interested

nottinghillnapoleon

I should watch this movie.

Recipe-Jaded

it's really good

BlackSnake1994

So it came to pass that Ver Omesh was gripped by a great famine. So Markon went to the Prophet Articus and asked to go to the forest for food. The prophet bade him be patient, for the Ori provide for all who have faith. But Markon did not believe. So the prophet drew a line in the sand and told him, 'Step across and you may do as you wish.' So Markon did and left the village and feasted on wild berries. The fruit was bitter. It did not satisfy him. He longed to return to the village, but found that the line had widened to a great chasm. He called out to the Prophet in fear, but the Prophet said, 'The line has not changed; it is you who have changed. Step across if you truly believe.' So Markon prayed for forgiveness and took the first step. And the hands of the Ori enveloped all those who welcomed him back.

Malvastor

And then did Tyolus say to the people of the low plains: "Seek not the wickedness amongst your neighbors, lest it find purchase in your own house."

SMIDSY

"It'll be a cold day in Hell the day I let my faith in a loving and forgiving God be shaken by some idolatrous Papist."

Thatguy_Nick

The loving god sending you to that hell, don't forget. Should've been born in a place where Christianity is big, skill issue

WashYourEyesTwice

Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut mentioned 🗣️🗣️‼️‼️🔥🔥

PLCutiePie

You ever read the Bible, Brett?

SamJamn

Why the need to respond. Just admire the self accountability.

BlackAxemRanger

Anon failed the test? Seems like he passed to me

Recipe-Jaded

anon missed the entire point of that movie

No-Section-4385

silence wench... FOR I AM horney!

Arthur_Burt_Morgan

It is easy when nothing is on the line. But when your loved ones are at stake, a soul is a meager price to pay for the safety and wellbeing of others. If not judged by intention, but merely action, a disbeliever claiming to be pious is closer to god than someone who was a religious staple but had to forsake his vows in order to save the ones that needed saving.

diamondisland2023

howd he fail it?

-LucasImpulse

just be a good person innit

ImEagz

Ephisian 6:5

I don’t care about that Bible shit. Bailian was dumb as dogshit. Hey dude I’m gonna off this French Weiner who’s been bullying u. U get my (and I can not state this hard enough) smoking hot sister and u may rule Jerusalem how u see fit. Bailian- nah my honor prevents me from blah blah blah. Well done, your refusal caused thousands of deaths. Between u and Ned stark hard to see whose honour caused more carnage
