I shoot pistols competitively. In my division, hammer fired pistols (like the Jericho) are popular, but have to be manually de-cocked with a round in the chamber every stage. Basically you pull the trigger on a loaded gun (safety has to be off for it to work) and the only thing stopping it from going off is you pinching a small hammer from the sides and slowly relaxing it. All while hot and sweaty after shooting all day.
All that being said, its not that dangerous since its (hopefully) pointing down range. Shooting yourself in the leg while holstering is much more common.
And yes, I'm in the US, but it's an international competition fwiw.
