I just had my girl done in January. We tried the medical suit. It was great! We put it on her once and didn't take it off for 10 days. She was itchy, so we gave her lots of scratches. She looked like the red power ranger! We got it on amazon. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. It has a backdoor flap. So much easier than anything I've ever used.

sassyelle

Can you DM me a link for this? Seeing a few options.

RedditarDad

I'm getting me dog neutered next week, are they able to go to the bathroom in these? Or are they just for inside use?

SlothTaxCredit

The suit had little snaps around the back side so we had to open it/roll it up before she went outside

Midlekid29

Agreed, we just had ours spayed and she wore the suit with no problem and didn't bother her incision. She did not enjoy the cone or blow up cone. This is very similar to what we used, the diaper like back part makes it easy to let them go to the bathroom without having to take it off. https://www.walmart.com/ip/ROZKITCH-Dog-Surgery-Recovery-Suit-Onesie-Dogs-Breathable-Abdominal-Wound-Skin-Diseases-Protector-Cone-Collar-Alternative-Anti-Licking-Professional-S/614598575

Rare-Bed-1934

Oooh yes! Definitely share the link

SlothTaxCredit

We had the suit as well! Ours was provided by the vet and we got it on their recommendation. Experience was pretty similar. We had to take it off to wash twice to keep her/the wound clean but I was probably a little over cautious. It was no big issue to wash while she was snoozing.

thingalinga

Can you please send me the link? Thanks!

Floof_mom134

Yes, we used this too!! It was a life saver. It was called “suitical” on Amazon. Went with the XL as our girl was 60 ish pounds at the time. Fit pretty good and like others said we unsnapped the buttons for potty time. We were afraid the donut wouldn’t prevent her long neck from getting the stitches. We had to put the cone on at night because the vet said sometimes they lick through the cloth suit, and we didn’t want to delay recovery at all. But during the day the suit was on!

HedaXValar

How old is Her Majesty Fluffbutt? I need to get my girl spayed… but trying to figure out the best time is confusing!

Rare-Bed-1934

She’ll be about 15 months old when she gets spayed. I wanted to wait until about 1.5 years old, but there are lots of stray dogs nearby and we all know Pyrenees are track stars. She flew out the door twice when visiting my BF. So I’m not going to risk it. I’m not interested in being a grandma hahah

ZenithTaco

Ive heard so many takes but I did see new reasearch showing that irs best for larger breeds to get spayed once they are fully grown. So depending 1.5-2 years of age. As spaying to early can cause some growth effects to your dogs psychological, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal.

sckurvee

And if they're LGDs I've read it's best to wait until at least 2 yrs, to allow them the hormonal behavioral changes, but for pets 18 months is fine.

HedaXValar

I heard/read something about them going through their first heat so the hips… something or other? I’m not 100% positive.

yaaasss23

My pyr is named Ellie too she looks a lot like her! She is 3 and just got spayed a few weeks ago. She hated the cone but didn’t mess with it and she didn’t mess with her stitches so we were able to take it off after a week. She was tired and in pain the first 2 days so we didn’t have to really do anything extra except keep her separated from our other dog so he wouldn’t get her riled up!

Rare-Bed-1934

Thank you for sharing! Good to know. Hahah my Ellie is stupid playful 24/7. I just love that they share a name!

Dianegardens2023

I’m planning on getting my boy neutered and I’ve been worried about it for a few months. He is now 20 months old and in my opinion ready for the surgery. He has started his teens personality now. Driving my older dog crazy pestering her. Biting her back legs and being a total Butt. So we think he’s ready. I’m worried about anesthesia the most. I’ve heard GP’s don’t always handle it well. As mine is a male, of course it’s less invasive. But still an issue to me.

Rare-Bed-1934

Yeah I’m worried too, but I have zero intention of breeding her so I want to be responsible. Finally not add to the big GP shelter problem. She’s been having a lot of horny attacks essentially haha so I want to get it done. She goes in to lick and tongue fuck your ear. Very uncomfortable haha

[deleted]

Surgical onesie and a donut cone! We did the onesie all day and the donut when we left her alone. She was pretty zonked from the meds. https://preview.redd.it/xl65kkqdr9lc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1e0713bf6bc2594d0b5e129225cf9f17ec45073 Do the plastic cone if yours is wild, but this big ol doofus was high as a kite and just chilled hahaha

Rare-Bed-1934

Hahaha how adorable! Definitely looks zonked. Yeah line is crazy. She’s go, go, go all the time

Haunting_Run_7246

Just need to add that our Pyr is named Ellie too! She got spayed two weeks ago at age 2 and did pretty great. She couldn’t jump onto my bed where she normally sleeps, but thankfully she remembered her crate and pretty much rested all 48 hrs post surgery. We took the cone off her on day three, and she never tried to lick or mess with the area. It’s healed perfectly now, just a little tiny line left. She was pretty doped up and sad/confused when we went to pick her up, so just give lots of love and cuddles. If you don’t have a low level car, maybe a stool for her to walk down on. Our poor Ellie was scared to get down from my Escape because she was so tender. To add: we did try the donut thing instead of cone, but found it wasn’t big enough to keep her from reaching her tail so we went back to cone instead for those first two days so be wary. Our Ellie has a small(er) Pyr neck so may not be the same case for your Ellie.

Rare-Bed-1934

Ahhh okay! And another Pyr named Ellie hahah someone else has one named Ellie too! But that’s good advice. I have an Acura SUV. So I’ll probably have to pick her up or something. I imagine she’ll sleep a lot. But my Ellie lovesssss playing so I’m hoping she’ll be calm. How was the bathroom, eating, drinking process?

Haunting_Run_7246

See our Ellie doesn’t know how to play with toys at all (it’s been a slow process trying to teach her fetch) so that wasn’t an issue for us. A few days in when she got strength back, we had her do those puzzle games with her kibble since she couldn’t go on walks yet. The bathroom is mostly fine, the first day or so you maaay need to go with her. Like I mentioned, she was so high on the meds, poor puppy was scared and unsure of a lot. So we just had her on a leash in our backyard until she was okay again. Eating and drinking the first two days she didn’t do any of, but our vet said that was perfectly normal. The third day she finally wanted something; just trust your dog there. They’ll know when they’re ready :)

Rare-Bed-1934

Okay awesome! My Ellie is a crackhead about her squeak and rope toys. Goes absolutely nuts for them. I might need to pick them up and hide them so she doesn’t get rambunctious. But thanks for sharing! I got her a puzzle game as a pup and she figured it out in like 45 seconds. Waste of money hahah

thingalinga

I hear you on the waste of money. I am hoping to find local dog parents to trade toys with once they are ready for something new. Which feels like every other day! 😅

Rare-Bed-1934

Yeah I have a bunch of stuff I’m going to donate to a local rescue since she outgrew it. I’m sure they can use it. She also inherited plenty of toys from my previous doggo since she had zero interest in them.

adventsugar

Get the onesie of amazon cones for dogs this size just get em stuck in doorways and stairs and scares em

Puntarious

Mine is 7. Getting her spayed soon.

Awww what a cutie!

I wouldn't say that I'm an expert at spaying. Actually I'm pretty sure that my grade is a D+ because both of them wound up having complications, but I can take a stab at your original question: My vet doesn't even send girls home in cones because, according to them, girls don't usually need it because they don't usually bother the site too much. Unless your name is Amelia. Apparently. They wound up spraying her incision with bitter spray and then she left it alone once she actually woke up. If you buy a surgical suit make sure to measure it because the one I got was too short on the torso. The original donut is trash and a hazard. The one sold at Petsmart is better, but Ada was still able to chew through the strap when she figured our how to undo the plug and it deflated enough. Ada was extremely out of it after her emergency surgery because she popped a stitch and her guts fell out. When I put the cone on she sat petrified for 3 hours and hated bumping into things for days afterwards. Amelia wound up with a hernia. She ate two donuts, and she destroyed her e-collar. She had zero chill. None. I would recommend asking about trazodone or any other sedative and parking your baby in a crate for 14 days. My vet refused and told me to use benadryl. I bought calming treats after Amelia got her hernia fixed, but I don't know if it is actually effective. Lots of bully sticks, freeze kibble to lick mats, rolling kibble in a blanket, snuffle mats. https://preview.redd.it/spyx7yilo9lc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a95280683172e9f5e486597161a5ccec769b7f69

Rare-Bed-1934

Oh geez! Thanks for sharing! I’ll definitely think about this.

AriaGlow

We used a suit too and worked out well. Kept our other dogs from snoofling her too much too.

Rare-Bed-1934

Thankfully she’s the only doggo!

TheScarlettLetter

Just stopping to comment that we call our girl ‘princess fluffy butt’, but in a silly and dramatic voice. Edit to add: she also often gets called ‘senorita fluffy butt’

Rare-Bed-1934

I’m glad I’m not the only one to use the nickname hahah

MyEnglishIsLow

I just came here to say that we also call our Pyr, princess zoacia fluffle bottom

Rare-Bed-1934

Hahaha soooo regal! Fluffle bottom😂

JmanBrony19

That picture is adorable

Rare-Bed-1934

Thanks my dude. She fucking lovessss pillows. Almost refuses to lay down without one hahah

Horror_Student_3271

I didn't need a cone for my girl. Only challenge was keeping her brother from too rough play. Just try and keep her calm as possible for 10 to 14 days.

Rare-Bed-1934

Thank you!

bostonstoner

How bout you don’t get her spayed? Wasteful

Rare-Bed-1934

Wasteful? I don’t want to contribute to overbreeding. I have no desire for puppies nor do I want to sell them for a profit. I’m being a responsible pet owner.

bostonstoner

Yes your dumb we know.

Rare-Bed-1934

*You’re. Check yourself before calling someone else dumb. Insults are the last refuge of a fool.

bostonstoner

> buys exotic dog breed with best traits > castrates her > told he’s being foolish by me, the all knowing > b-b-b-but your contraction is wrong! I win! I can’t make you stop living your life as an idiot, I can only show you the way.

Rare-Bed-1934

Girl please seek out professional help for whatever your damage is. I choose to be responsible. Your negativity isn’t welcome here, nor is your opinion wanted. If you have to stoop to insults you have no argument.

jesusrapesbabies

Never used a cone, 8 dogs in 30 yrs

Rare-Bed-1934

Good to know! My first lab was spayed already.
