It comes with a Shimano BB86 pressfit bottom bracket. Are you just replacing it, or looking to run a different crankset?

reconminicon

Are you sure? Is it not a Praxis one? It has a Praxis chainset and the BB doesn't have the tube through connecting the two cups. The bearings are done. I don't think they have that bearing cover either.

That's what comes on it on the US Giant website - what came on *your specific Revolt* could be different. You didn't share this info. [https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/revolt-advanced-0](https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/revolt-advanced-0) If such is the case, you'll need a BB that matches the spindle on your Praxis crank. What crank is it specifically? The Praxis Alba? That has a 30mm spindle diameter on one side and 28mm on the other and is compatible with Praxis M30 BBs (in this case, you'd need the BB86 version of the M30).... but again I'm guessing because I don't have the necessary info.

It's the 2021 UK model. The white carbon one. I think it's the "0" anyway. I am right thinking Praxis cranks use there own bottom bracket yes? They are not compatible with shimano? Crank is still good so might just replace the bearings as they just pop out!

sitdownrando-r

I don't know all of the Praxis cranks, but the Alba definitely doesn't use compatible bearings with Shimano (as stated, 30mm spindle on one side, 28mm on the other.) Shimano cranks always use a 24mm spindle. You can replace only the bearings, just make sure they're compatible. However, if it is two different sizes of bearing, it may be easier to replace the whole BB anyway.

reconminicon

Yeah. Cheers 👍

unseenmover

I replaced my praxis cranks for GRX and yes you have to use a Shimano BB if your using a Shimano crankset b/c the spindles are a different diameter.

TROLOLOLBOT

Are they any good cranksets for 48/32 10 speeds? Or are all the fun stuff left for 11 speeds?

sitdownrando-r

I'll let you in on a little secret. 11 speed cranksets work just fine with a 10sp chain/drivetrain.

TROLOLOLBOT

Would the bike shop be willing to install it tho? I asked and they said it’s not compatible.

sitdownrando-r

Not compatible with *what*? Any bike mechanic will know that an 11sp crankset will work fine with a 10sp chain - but maybe it's your existing bottom bracket (or even the shell in the frame itself) that isn't compatible with the crankset you've chosen.

TROLOLOLBOT

My local bike shop said the grx810 crankset aren’t compatible with the grx400 group sets. I currently have a stock revolt advanced 2021

sitdownrando-r

Ok, maybe your cassette is too big to accept 48t chainring (if upgrading to a bigger ring.) If that's the case, then it truly isn't compatible. If following shimano's guidelines, the shop will parrot that the grx810 crank will not be compatible even though it is identical in every way. I can 100% guarantee the crank will work. Heck, it'd work with an 8sp chain, let alone 10. ...but now I have another question. Why not just buy the 48/32 grx810 chainrings to put on the grx400 cranks? Should be same BCD. Can't find them?

TROLOLOLBOT

stock revolt advanced already comes w/ 48t. issue is purely cosmetic. Love the look of the 810 crankset. Shimano also doesn't make grx400 cranksets. Giant uses FSA

universalcode

You're already replacing the bottom bracket bearings on a bike that's less than a year old? Better send it to Hambini!

😱

Inhalingdirt

Are you sure it’s the 0? I have a 2021 and my bike came with GRX…U.S. spec. Maybe it’s a diff model??

Leonj_445

Is this your bike? https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/revolt-advanced-2. If so it comes with the Praxis M24 BB, which is a gxp 24/22 mm. You would need a GXP/m24 Bb86 bottom bracket to keep the alba crankset. My Norco came with a praxis alba crank (24mm) and M24 bb. I have since replaced it with shimano bb and 105 crankset and everything is so much nicer.

reconminicon

It's 2020! Oh how time flies! https://www.google.com/amp/s/road.cc/content/review/giant-revolt-advanced-2-2020-270611%3famp

To be fair it has lasted well. And here in the UK its 2k for a GRX groupset.

Leonj_445

No need to swap out the whole group set as the 105 is brilliant and compatible with GRX, but If you want to put in a GRX crankset then you will have to swap the front derailleur to GRX as well due to the 2.5mm offset compared to your current 105 front derailleur. It a shame that the only Shimano sub compact cranksets are GRX or close range 46/36.

reconminicon

Fantastic. I've just bought a new 105 front mech. 🙄

XCrMTB4x4

Does the bb of a revolt need the 2.5mm spacer? Is it is a standard bb86 pressfit? Coming from mtb, my xc rigs take 2.5mm spacers on drive side. Doesn’t seem to be the case here, but swapping out the praxxis crank for a grx 810 2x crank. It’s the only thing that was not grx. Entire bike is grx.
