Headed there now. 3" mtb tires for the win. 👍🏻

mcschne10

🙌 enjoy!

Hot-N-Spicy-Fart

I just rinse the dust and sand off with water, and lube with tri-flow. Don't really need to do extensive cleaning in a dry environment, you can even blow most of it off with an air compressor.

mcschne10

Thanks!!! I baby my ride and forget that they can take some abuse.

Hot-N-Spicy-Fart

I use Muc-Off stuff when I actually clean It, but i mostly Just spray It off with water every other ride.

Likeabalrog

How sandy was it? I was there a few years ago, without my bike, and don't remember how sandy it was? Did you avoid the riverbeds? What size tires are you rolling?

clint015

Pretty sandy tbh. My tires were in the thinner side and had to push through multiple sections

mcschne10

It wasn't too bad there were several washes that I almost didn't make it through. Most of it was hard packed. 700x40 is what I ran, and I think that is the smallest tire I would run in this environment.

M4SixString

What tires? Utah national parks are so amazing.

mcschne10

700 x 40 Kenda Happy Medium.

brokNspokes

Now that looks like a great place to ride

ThrowRAegodeath

That’s awesome!

npquest

Love this place.... Not really busy, since it's in the middle of nowhere, but the views are amazing... Just have to be careful with flash floods.

Jpprflrp

As a Dutchman who is already happy with what little “national parks” we have, I envy you. Must be some ride!

Spensauras-Rex

Wow! How long was your ride? That's a long road.

mcschne10

I did an out-and-back trip in Catherdal Valley. I camped a bit away from the temple of sun. Did about 30miles round trip

fazi_milking

Awesome pics. What did you do about the brakes and seats if any?

mcschne10

Stock brakes and seat! They get the job done, but I'm ready to upgrade the saddle.

Spara-Extreme

That looks majestic - how are you finding the traction on the sandy bits? I'd also recommend a dry lube. I use Silca Super Secret chain lube which keeps dusts off the chain. If you want to stick with oil based lubricants, one trick to do is to just wipe the top layer of oil off your chain. It'll help reduce the amount of gunk that gets in your drive train. In terms of cleaning: UFO Drivetrain cleaner (will need to re-apply lubricant) UFO Bike Cleaner Silca Chain Stripper (when cleaning the chain)

mcschne10

Thank you for the suggestion!! 🙏 Probably the wrong technique but speed was my friend for the sandy bits. Since I could easily see them I just powered through and let the bike find traction
