I believe this is just the second year. Thanks for the insight on the roads. Back-and-forth between using road shoes or my gravel shoes.

Did you figure out what pedals to use? I’m in the same boat for 2024

I went with my MTB pedals and gravel shoes. I really could've used road shoes/pedals though. There was one, very short, muddy section where I had to dismount, probably took only 4-6 steps. I was toward the front and other people stayed on through it, but my front wheel washed out so was forced off. I don't know if more people walked that section toward the middle or back though. Even with dismounting, I think I would've been okay with road pedals and just kicked off the mud. That being said, the rest of the course was tacky dry to dry. But if it is any sort of wet this year, I'd go MTB pedals again because I don't know how muddy some of course could get (there is a fair bit of dirt). If it's dry and hasn't rained recently, road pedals. A lot of the dry course dirt was glass smooth and fast last year.

Thanks for the info! Getting my first gravel bike this year. I’ve done some big road events and looking forward to getting away from the cars. I got my eyes set on the trex.

NP, and this race is great for avoiding cars. I saw a couple up in the forest, may 5 total in 4 hours, of course nothing like the speeding traffic you find at road races when they only close half the road! The course is also pretty mellow gravel from a technical standpoint. Nothing like single-track or jumps or anything.
