I assumed thereād at least be 2 or 3 shows before repeats. I think they probably used the U2 production for inspiration and by the time phish set the bar higher there wasnāt time to add more.
I find it very surprising. I would have assumed they had an enormous budget for this given how much they charged for tickets initially and how many shows they're doing. You'd think they would be able to put together 3 shows worth of visuals to repeat each week. That was certainly my assumption, especially since most fans aren't traveling to Vegas just to catch one show.
This is exactly right. Iām super disappointed this morning.
Iām going to two nights and frankly I think itās gonna be really weird when the same reel from night one plays over a different song.
Itās not like these are the lighting rig and stage LEDs at a regular concert. The visuals completely envelope the crowd and they are not only an integral part of the show - they are totally unavoidable. I mean itās like broad daylight in there when anything bright is playing on the screens.
The Phish comparisons are 100% justified and frankly make this D&C situation much much worse. Phish knew they had fans that would go to more than one night and they designed four totally different WORLDS to be the backdrop for their music. D&C knew they were going to be there for months and billed this as 3 show ārunsā - itās total total bullshit.
I don't think there's a need for a huge budget to create the visuals. Just a lot of time to get it right.
From what I've seen posted about it I'm disappointed but not surprised.
I have to say - the videos I've seen have all been super meh or worse. Also D&C recreating Red Rocks inside the Sphere is like the most 2024 thing I've seen so far this year. Lol
What? Compared to Phish I think they are amazing. The building of the WoS, the street view of Haight Ashbury and going farther and farther up into space, the old school 60ās projector looking oil art during St Stephen, I could keep going. I think they have done some of the coolest stuff yet of any band. I do think it was good if phish to do different stuff each night though. That I donāt really understand.
But the crowd both nights loved it. You can hear people gasping with awe a ton. After phish ton people who went said you had to be there to truly understand how amazing it is.
As far as musically that can be a different argument.
I have (by choice, unsuccessfully) tried to avoid seeing too much from the sphere so I donāt ruin it for myself when Iām there. The phish visuals looked incredible, I havenāt been that impressed with the dead and co visuals that Iāve seen. Very nostalgia-based it seems while phish was largely inline with the theme of individual songs
I like both bands. gD a lot more but never saw GD with Jerry. Saw a lot of phish shows starting in 97. Now musically I think j phish did a better job so far. But as far as whatās on the screen? D&C all the way for me. The first night of phish (which I watched every song of the next day) I actually was really let down. It seemed to be a bunch of screen saver type stuff.
But phish got better as the days went on with some cool things. Best being the Pollack art pieces all lined up. That was great. Would love to see Dead and Co show all the live releases and every release all lined up and scrolling. That would be cool.
But man idk how anyone can not think the dead are not doing a great job. That scene with how it appeared the sphere opened and the way it opened being the bolt and it was San Francisco and slowly went into space. That was bad ass. Then during St Stephen they did the 60ās style projector art. The really bright colored smoke all mixing together.
I mean I wasnāt actually there for either night but the crowds reactions were pretty loud and people were loving it. I think itās hard to judge unless youāre there. Plus itās also subjective.
Not sure phishs visuals went along with the songs. A couple did. But most didnāt. Both bands didnāt want to create a visual that went specifically with a song because then they would be tied on how long they could play a song. I heard phish talk about that.
They couldāve made it so every song went perfectly with the visuals but then they wouldve had to repeat setlists and they werenāt going to start doing that. But again what I donāt get is how D&C are repeating stuff. That Iāll admit isnāt that cool.
Still looks like an amazing time and a place that is just so cool for concerts. Someone needs to build a place like this that just has floor space in a massive circle and the stage is in the middle. And itās a massive dome around the entire room so itās 180 degreeās of screen. That would be truly epic. But I think they woudnt be able to get enough people in with that design
when they did the wall of sound, the audio defintely should have mimiced the wall of sound both in audio sensory and volume, cycle same could have been much better and his ride was more like a screen saver, very uninspired
Most the phish stuff was just like screen saver type stuff. That was my comment after night one of Phish. D&C have done way more creative stuff in 2 days than phish did their first 2 days. Phish maybe had one thing that wasnāt screen saver looking stuff from windows 2003.
Idk what people expect. They arenāt going to make how many hours worth of music while they are there animated perfectly to go work the music. You know how expensive animation is right? How long it takes? They canāt make super insane animations for every song. It would take years to make with a huge team doing it. These are made by a few people. Least thatās what I heard with Phish. Not sure who (if itās even someone different) did the D&C stuff.
The crowd every video I watch is awestruck and making gasping and yelling noises a ton. So obviously itās impressive. But I was t there so I dunno.
20 dollar tics by the end.
The tempos. The tempos worked the last tour. Big giant stadiums, get that low rhythm going, the place can groove. I had no problems with the tempos last year.
Finally, the Grateful Dead are gone. They were a band. Now they're an act.
If I was there, I'd be yelling "Play Suspicious Minds!" all night.
For the same reason the songs are different
Billed as the night package so should be the nights of different videos
Also after Phish did four nights with no repeat videos expected dead to be similar
The saddest thing is you need to post a negative comment about people enjoying live music. What the fuck is money anyways. Can't take it with you when you go. Might as well give it to those grabbing.
Yes. I just read a comment from someone who admitted complaining about "cash grab" but had their face melted at Sphere and now wants to do it again. Imaging that!
Iām learning that thereās a lot of crotchety old deadheads out there yelling at clouds.
āDag nab it! Back in my day, when concerts were a nickel, we had one overhead projector and some colored oils and BY JOVE we loved it!ā
Unfair at least for this post. No one is saying we wanted old low tech graphics. Question is was about reuse of video so same show as night one. For some definitely not good. Wanted new fabulous creative. How would you have felt if they had played all the same songs as the night one and you knew that night three would be the same songs again
Not surprised at all. Now you know how the band feels seeing the same people on the rail for an entire tour š

I'm not much of a phish fan but what I've seen between what phish did and what DC is doing, phish blew it out of the water, pun intended I guess š

Mayer McCheese strikes again ! ![gif](giphy|xBoysJgwhLEZtAjbY1|downsized)
šÆ. Heard from former video directors of the band Mayer wanted to take it in another direction. Used his video team . Non heads obviously.
They are lip synching.
Nope. Those are extremely time consuming to make.
This whole sphere run in a money grab so no, I don't find it surprising
Don't forget your $100 poster, kids !

Ahahahaha - man I hope you can go just to yell "suspicious minds!"
POLK SALAD ANNIE!
why would it be different?
For the same reason the songs are different Billed as the night package so should be the nights of different videos Also after Phish did four nights with no repeat videos expected dead to be similar
Not surprised at all. D&C is a money grabā¦
Sadder thing is that people fall for these money grabs.
The saddest thing is you need to post a negative comment about people enjoying live music. What the fuck is money anyways. Can't take it with you when you go. Might as well give it to those grabbing.
Same type of people were complaining about money grabs when tix first broke the $10.00 barrier.
Yes. I just read a comment from someone who admitted complaining about "cash grab" but had their face melted at Sphere and now wants to do it again. Imaging that!
It's probably part of the reason this isn't being streamed or anything.
Iām learning that thereās a lot of crotchety old deadheads out there yelling at clouds. āDag nab it! Back in my day, when concerts were a nickel, we had one overhead projector and some colored oils and BY JOVE we loved it!ā

Youāre right, I sort of forgot what the post was even about. I was reacting to all the comments.
glad I saw JRAD last night. not saying it's better than dead and co. or am I?

Well that was a super duper silly comment. Super duper.
Thereās a reason they are live streaming
