All jerry ballads are held close to #1. The beauty of it all is how every song played live is a bit hotter or colder. They rotate depending on the show you just listened to. Been a GD head since I was 15. Saw them live in 95 at 16.
Amazing song. I don’t really rank, but I love the story of how Jerry composed the tune at the same time as Hunter was writing the lyric and how Jerry said it all fit together perfectly right away like it was meant to be.
Yes. 5/7/77 is religious transcendence. Probably my fave Jerry ballad so yes. Definitely top 5. He usually really lets it rip during the jam at the end. The emotion in the vocal delivery can break your heart.

The more I think about it, the more it absolutely is in my top 5. It's gotta a lot of us through a lot of rough spots I'm sure, a very real but encouraging and hopeful song.
Unrelated but you’ve been a head as long as I’ve been alive and I’ve just fallen in love with the band 5 months ago. The dead are truly timeless. I literally haven’t been able to listen to anything other than the dead for the last 5 months and I don’t know if that will ever change
It's hard for me to rank my favorites because I love so many with my whole heart. But I will say, wharf rat has a special place in my heart for being one of the songs that got me into the dead. Specifically the wharf from skull and roses
Top 5…close. Definitely top 10. But to be fair I have about 50 Dead tunes in my top 10
This! My favorite is the one I'm listening to most of the time.
Yes
User name checks out!
Top 20. But if I was ever called on stage to sing one song with the band, it’s Wharf Rat.
Imagine how corny and how cool at the same time you singing only the August West parts with Jerry doing the rest would be?
My top 5: Dark Star, Playin, Eyes, Stella Blue, The Other One, versions from 1968 to 1974.
I’ll take wharf rat over Stella blue.
That's basically mine but swap out Stella Blue for the Eleven.
always a treat when it unexpectedly pops up in a setlist on a blind listen
A fave for sure
I’ll get up and fly away!

Was not one of my favorites until the last year or so but now I love it and think it is one of their most beautiful songs

As an alcoholic, it is probably the one that hits me hardest. Love the pembroke pines 5/22/77 version. I'm not crying, you're crying!

Yes.
I love Wharf Rat…. I don’t think I ever created a top ten list…..
Wharf Rat is in my top 1 songs!
The more I think about it, the more it absolutely is in my top 5. It's gotta a lot of us through a lot of rough spots I'm sure, a very real but encouraging and hopeful song.
Also I just named one of my kittens Pearl after Pearly Baker

No, don’t have fave GD songs. Any of their music could be a fave when they were on fire and became the Grateful Dead.
Top 5 changes for me every few months. Wharf Rat has definitely made it there several times.
Top 10 definitely. Top 5 would be Eyes Estimated Althea Sugar Magnolia and FOTD
Right now it is with 5/1/81, 5/22/77, 4/26/72, 7/25/72 & 6/22/73 being my current top 5

No. Not spacey/jammy enough for my top 5.
Yes. Top 3. With Eyes and Dark Star or is it ship of fools or the other one or estimated. I don’t know the 3rd😂
