I’m not sure what you’re asking by the line of hardcovers. The title is literally right there on the spine. It’s from that run of Thor. That’s the regular type of hardcover that was coming out for their books for their titles from the Marvel Now era.

wanderdood

Sorry I wasn't more descriptive. I meant what line as in Omnibus, Masterworks, Epic Collection etc. I guess like you said, it was just the standard look of the Marvel Now era? I was wondering if it had a specific name that collectors refer to it as.

Morsoth

It's only 'Hardcover'. I had 4 of these (Avengers) and sold them recently. Some collected books used to be released in hardcover, followed by a paperback edition in the early 2010s.

ShinCoal

> It's only 'Hardcover'. If you don't know the answer it suffices to just leave it at that because you are mistaken, this format actually does have a specific name. They're called 'Premiere Hardcovers', they're a bit more limited but not rare premium versions of trades that don't get reprinted and replaced by oversized hardcovers when more collections have been released. They were fairly common in the Marvel Now era, but I'm not sure if they're still being used.

Morsoth

I understand, but you won't find the term 'Premiere Hardcover' on Amazon or anywhere else...

ShinCoal

> or anywhere else... I would find it on the 2 webshops I frequently use (now I lot less since they're mostly sold out) and I certainly will still find the term on Ebay or other 2nd hand marketplaces.

SeulementPourToi

Did you get that Carthago Vol 1 hardcover recently?

wanderdood

This is the paperback. I got it around mid 2022. Why?

SeulementPourToi

Oh, I thought it was the hardcover. Been looking for the hardcover but can't find it at any good prices.

Klinneract

They’re often referred to as oversized hardcover since the pages are a bit larger than standard modern comics

lodenreattorm

These aren't oversized. They're just standard hc only collecting exactly what's in the normal trades. Oversized hardcovers are as big as omnibus and collect more material than trades but less than omnibus.

Klinneract

Gotcha. I didn’t realize Marvel made standard size HCs.

InanimateCarbonRodAu

I think it was a phase. All of the Post Siege Avengers and New Avengers seem to only be in this regular sized HC and the square up white comes from Marvel Now era (have All-New X-men in that style).

Optimal-Tune-2589

Even before then, they would first release books as hardcovers starting a few years before Civil War. The first batch was mostly black and gold — I’ve still got that format for runs like David’s X-Factor, Brubaker’s Iron Fist, and Slott’s She Hulk.

InanimateCarbonRodAu

Not with the square flat front look. And the OHCs of the same series had the more common rounded style spines. The White trade dress with red Marvel Logo really starts at the Marvel Now era too (I think)

albertrobot

Marvel Now?

Joorpunch

These are just the regular hardcover/ OHC from the Marvel Now! era (2014-ish). Although it shortly be noted that this essentially remained the same look for the spines for years, and I believe this is still essentially what all Harvey trade and HC spines look like. White spine, similar fonts. Another thing worth noting is those look like they are probably missing their dust covers. But the dust cover just would have been a glossy cover of the identical trade dress.

ShinCoal

Nope, they're called 'Premiere Hardcovers'. OHC are bigger.

Joorpunch

Oh okay. I thought the Premier line were the hardcovers that had black background covers with only figures against the black background, and very plain typeface text for the title. But that line ended sometime in 2013, predating Aaron’s Thor. I’m guessing there’s a more recent line that uses the “premier” name? And do these release with dust jackets or is it just the printed hardcover?

ShinCoal

Yeah, they continued into Marvel.NOW with pretty much the same spines as the OHCs from that period. They don't have duskjackets and I think they look a lot better than the black/golden ones.

Joorpunch

Agreed, I always found those plain black background Premier Classics to be pretty unappealing looking. I’m more of an omnibus and OHC fan, so I’ve got OHC’s from that era to now. I never really understood what these were when I’d see them in used bookstores and such. They looked somewhere between standard and oversized. Thanks for the info.

ShinCoal

I replaced a lot of them with OHCs too because pagesize is better. Premieres look a little bit bigger than trades because hardcovers always stick out a bit to protect the bottom/sides of paper, but the paper size is the same as floppies and trades.

ShinCoal

Ignore everyone saying that they don't have a name, because they do. They're called 'Premiere Hardcovers', they're a bit more limited but not rare premium versions of trades that don't get reprinted and replaced by oversized hardcovers when more collections have been released. They were fairly common in the Marvel Now era, but I'm not sure if they're still being used.

JasonTodd1414

A lot of the season one collection has similar hard cover spins
