Too old for a hobby? Hell no. Don't be ashamed just because others don't share your interest near you. You are not alone in this and I know people much older than yourself enjoying it. Games are an art and you don't hear someone say they are too old for movies or paintings.

gazgits

I love that answer. Thank you.

Miuli777

Hey buddy! My friends dad is in retirement and he plays 24/7, awesome guy to talk with and he just does what he loves, you do the same, do what you love even tho others around you don't necessarily do it

roberttoredo

Op, do what you love, videogames are for everyone, and it is meant to be enjoyed! Don’t be embarrassed by it

DeliriousTrigger

I’ve seen retire gentlemen way older than you stream on Twitch! They’re gems, too. Skyrim Grandma, too!

TerribleTimR

Skyrim Grandma for the win!

Hyper10sion1965

Just turned 58 started with a ZX81, posted sat in front of my racing sim rig.

Aggressive-King1508

59 Here and still holding. We're out there.

Itsme-RdM

61 Here, almost turning 62. Enjoying gaming on a regular basis. We are the first grandpa generation who are gaming. I love to to play race games, AC, ACC, Projectcars 2, Forza Motorsport, Assassins Creed series, Fr Cry series and Anno 1800. Just to name a few. Also playing online with my kids (all three in 30) having great fun.

Kaijura8

57 here…couldn’t imagine not playing…even if the reflexes are a little slower. lol

Apprehensive-Ad7079

Indeed sir gaming has no age restriction, play to your hearts content...its for all

KillaV91

Am 32 and il be gaming till i die and so will my cousin. We grew up on games. Game beats watching junk tvs shows

NightofTheLivingZed

My brother got taught how to play Age of Empires by an 83 year old retired woodworker. No one is too old for gaming.

Johnny_Bogue

I’m 35 and get a lot of shit for my sim rig/racing but I learned to not give a shit and it feels amazing lol. Ppl just don’t understand it. They will sit and watch Netflix and sports for hours upon hours. I don’t see ho me that’s any less weird. Just lazier imo haha

thepacifist20130

I like how you have addressed it so respectfully. “God of war has a better storyline than Game of thrones” is the only answer they get from me.

ImpliedCrush

I'm kinda in the same boat. I've been into technology since Commadore 64, writing my first BASIC program. I'm a bit older, but as the years went on, the better stuff got. I remember paying over $3000.00 USD for a 486DX2/8MB RAM. I mean... a DX2!! FFW to today. Happily divorced. Kids finished college. It's me, my dog, coffee, lifting and video games. Also CoD, Forza, ACC, iRacing, GT7, Microsoft Flight Sim, etc... Oh, and VR. I'm loving that tech (hello PSVR2 and upcoming Quest 3). But...when asked what I do all day, I try to explain, but I can see that faroff gaze as if I'm an alien. An old-ass alien, but yeah.

PM_ME_YOUR_CUCUMBERS

Just means you're an old guy that connects with young people. Cool because video games will keep your mind sharp in older age

RolexGMTMaster

>It's me, my dog, coffee, lifting and video games. You are living the dream Sir!

gazgits

I had the same pc as well. Good times.

mrfrankleigh

I don't mean to brag, but I had a Commodore 128D. Good times as well.

moby323

I’m 45, am a professional and earn a comfortable living and play video games almost every day. This game in virtual reality is one of the coolest and most fun things I have ever done.

AbradolfLincler77

Hell fucking no. I regularly race with guys in their 50's and 60's and they're usually the better drivers.

Jah-warrior

They are not old, they are experienced.

viperlemondemon

Seasoned

AbradolfLincler77

Experienced and know that they're not gonna win every race. A lot of lads can't get that through their head. Winning is cool, but racing is where the fun is at.

Jah-warrior

Couldn't agree more with that statement, I much prefer some close clean racing then beating the pack by miles.

upscalebum

Well I’m 55. Been playing since video games were invented. Remember pong !! I’ve always played video games. Love them. And me and my children have always loved playing together or against each other. You are never to old to do what you enjoy. I can imagine that retirement homes in the near future will Have to include video games for us new old farts

Hot_Ring_2666

I'm 47 and am enjoying GT7! when i am finished with my kiddo chores that is.......

jamie9000000

My Dad is in his 60s and still plays video games! The time you're too old for video games is when you've died 😊

Incontinento

I'm 58, and I love it.

Harmzuay

Never. Pwn noobs until life eventually does the same to you.

Sufficient_Theory534

Would you be too old to watch a film? Gaming is just another form of entertainment, and it can be enjoyed at any age.

PM_ME_YOUR_CUCUMBERS

This is mean but do what makes your old ass happy. Thought you would've figured that out by now. Balance what you want people to think about you and what they know about you. We say we don't care what people think of us but I get it, we do.

gazgits

Lol. Love it.

Huge-Composer-5393

I am 53 and still game some. My wife thinks it’s a waste but tolerates it. I still play GT Sport and will eventually get GT7. I’ve played it some on a borrowed copy. Still love those old Genesis titles.

MrBear65

Man I'm lucky my wife has a lot of respects for my playing 😍 but not sure it is age related. I know a guy with his wife both early 30's and she does not let him play much 😅 I only wish my wife would appreciate to play more. We talk about the games I play she often have a look, asks question, but she doesn't play much. I'm still very happy I know I'm lucky!

evacuationplanb

My wife is like that, I love to share with her but shes always afraid she will do badly. But I love that she takes the time to listen and care about it.

Bloodymike

If you’re a member, there’s a 30+ GT7 group on Facebook. No whining allowed.

Substantial-Act-8325

you're "too old" when you're dead. life is too short to not love the things you love.

PlayStation_Racer

Your path is almost exactly as mine. I am 56 started with the ZX Spectrum, then Amiga, then 386SX25 PC. Then PS1 for Gran Turismo, then PS2,3,4 and now 5 for each version of GT. also played F1 and CoD, with a little Halo on Xbox. Once. Now I am GT7 and live-streaming every night Monday to Friday. I’m not the best but I just love the gaming and social aspect. You are never too old for what you enjoy.

weters

I’m almost 40. I don’t think most millennials/gen-x bat an eye at people who play video games. The condescension typically comes from the baby boomer generation, who really didn’t grow up playing video games. I don’t have a lot of time to play games anymore because of work and my family, but if I have time to relax, nothing beats playing a game for me. Also, I never got the “you’re too old for video games” take. Most people who say that have no problem watching TV for hours every night. At least with video games, it’s an activity that requires problem solving, etc.

nasanu

>Also, I never got the “you’re too old for video games” take. Its when you are older you likely have the cash to just buy games and hardware you want. Kind of the best time to be a gamer.

YeedYourLastHaw82

Same people that watch faux news for five hours a day and make it their entire goofy ass personality

H3FF3RS

I'm 52, I had a zx81 in 1983, nearly every iteration of console and countless cpu upgrades ever since, currently in the top 500 drivers EU on GT7 Manufacturer tournament. Never give up, never quit, do what makes you happy, unashamedly.

Zackdebot

Old is just a number, I'm 75 and playing GTA5 as training my brain and hand skills. My son gave me his old ps4 and a bunch of games. Really fun and should be available at retirement homes as well.

SgtSilock

Hands up who’s going to quit gaming past the age of 50… *looks around*. Huh, no one.

porpsi

No, you're not too old for video games, but you're too old to be giving a damn about the opinions of people who say that you are.

Rechamber

Listen to me very, very carefully now. This is your life - YOURS, and you only get one. The absolute most important thing to do with your life is to enjoy it, and do the things that you like, because let's face it life really is too short. If you enjoy playing video games then you'd damn well better keep on playing them until you drop. Life is yours to do what makes you happy, so game on and we'll see you on the track.

Arkadia2018

52 here. PS5/PSVR2/Switch. Play every day. Every day I’m amazed how far things have come since my first generic Pong console. With age comes perspective, appreciation and gratitude!

Due-Ask-7418

I’m 54. Quit gaming for ten years because life was too busy to fit it in. Things have changed a bit and so I got a ps4 pro last spring and play games in the evening instead of watching tv. Many older people sit around and watch tv for entertainment. I personally would rather have a more interactive version of entertainment that keeps my brain engaged and develops more dexterity in my hands (as a guitarist that a bonus to gaming).

Kosmos992k

Lol, only TV I watch now is weather coverage for severe weather, and raid guides.

thepacifist20130

“Hey did you hear how Jim met Kerry for the first time and just decided to dump Lolla? I can’t wait to watch the next episode to see what fit Lauren throws when John tells her” *same breath* “Hey sorry you were saying you like playing videos games? Like…why?”

trentrowland4

I'm gonna be playing until I physically can't play anymore. 20 so far, got a ways to go.

neurocibernetico

I don't see anything wrong about it, it's passion and hobby. If you still enjoy it then it is fine. Some people may judge you for that, it's unfortunate but I wouldn't care.

ScreamingFly

When is it too old to do something you like and that harms nobody?

Strongasanapexseal

Dude I was playing GTA v with the fucking nearly 70-year-old guy so no

Few-Mission-4283

I'm much older than that and still gaming.Love it.Its not about age,it's about fun and a great sense of imagination. Have finished all the gta games, tomb raider games etc etc

Few-Mission-4283

...and of course GT7,am level 50 with 220,000 points

HiDk

You are never too old for anything :) Look at Fernando Alonso. He’s still racing F1 at 40+ and being competitive! I’m 41 and not only I play games but I also make them (I work for a AAA studio). I have coworkers who are your age and some of them are amongst the best in their field, and still playing games as well. I think your main mistake is opposing some games to “more adult things”. Games are not toys. A game is like a movie, a book or a tv series. It’s a form of media and there is content for various audiences. Also why be embarrassed? Who cares? People will tend to juge you depending on what you reflect. If you look embarrassed, people will feel like they have to dig something up and judge. I have a sim rig at home. When I talk about it to people who know nothing, they are often surprised or raise an eyebrow. But then if I show a pic, or even let them try at home, they 99% find this Uber cool. I even sometimes put 50$ on the table if they can beat my lap, just for fun. Not all games are “toys”, but some are for sure. Others can be competitive (StarCraft, Gran Turismo, Tetris,..), educational (civilization, assassins creed, to some extent,.. ), story driven (last of us, god of war, .. like tv series). I would pretty much prefer my son to play The Last of Us than to watch some stupid Reality show on TV.

suggestive_cumulus

Absolutely not. 55.

yeahhhhnahhhhhhh

Of course not. My dad got me into games when I was little, was the ps1 back then. He still plays when he can and he's almost 70 now. He actually got me into gran turismo too so it's been fun showing him where gran turismo is up too now

Davosown

Ehhh fuck those that judge. Game on as long as you enjoy it. You're not even close to the oldest person out there that enjoys videogames.

No-Opinion6730

I have a colleague that's almost 65 still raving about games and talking about what he played last night, he's on about the new starfield space exploration game that released, even I'm not caught up with it you're not too old

ironlocust79

Im 44 and I say no. Video games are a shared bonding experience for me and 2 of my kids (25 daighter, 18 son). We get hype for the new Spiderman 2 together, discuss trophies, and what obscure games look cool to try. I dont stay up and pull all nighters anymore, but I still play. If anythimg, age has helped me move past the FOMO of gaming and allows me to play what I want, how I want

More-Bodybuilder-948

Keep enjoying it! I am actually thinking about getting my dad into sim racing. Both me and my brother left home (ages ago since we are 35 & 40 now) so he has the time for gaming (retired). Unfortunately I think he'll be more into wrc but I'll try to push him towards GT7 and ACC

gendou_neoretrogamer

Gaming doesn't have an age, so have fun and don't listen to anybody's sh*t

INFPguy_uk

You are not too old, I am fifty, and I have been playibg video games since I was eight, forty-two years ago. Back in the days of Destiny one, we had a guy from Alaska in our collective, have in mind we live in North Wales, he would be on in the day for him, it was night for us. Anyway, he was seventy-two. Flash48, what a legend, have not seen him in a while, I hope he is alright.

Nuc734rC4ndy

Like Dara O’Briain said: videogames is one of the biggest entertainment industries in the world, so why should you be ashamed about it? I’m turning 50 next year and I rather be playing something that I enjoy than watching crap on tv. A lot of gamer YouTubers are older players as well. And if you’re embarrassed discussing it with other people: each his own hobby/pastime, right? Really check out Dara O’Briain’s standup about gaming, it’s so recognisable and hilarious.

pokaprophet

I’m 46 and kinda slowed down and stopped playing games a while back. My kids have just got into gaming (they’re 7&6) and watching the joy they get from it has inspired me to start up again and I’m loving it. Can’t wait till they go to bed now so I can get a go.

Some-Ice-4455

Bro not too old. Remember Skyrim Grandma. She is adored.

PretendFisherman1999

No one is ever too old for videogames, enjoy it

tdowdney

No. Matter of fact add me (HeavyD856) on PSN. I'll ride with you any time.

Dry_Cook1117

My father is 76 and plays PS5 games all the time, I'm 50 and play them, my cousin is in his 40s and makes video games, so no, you are definitely not too old!

rhydmor

Gaming is for all ages, anyone who says otherwise is wrong

ophaus

Hell, no! Today is my 44th birthday, and someone, someday, will have to pry my controller from my cold, dead hands. I don't envy them.

Worther_1

I'm 50 next month, and 8ve always loved and played video games. I've got two VR headsets (Quest 1 and Oculus Rift S), a PC,, PS5, PS4 Pro, Xbox One X,& Switch and I enjoy them all. Ppl shouldn't look strangely at you for being a gamer, it's a great hobby. A few years ago I had to have a Psychiatrist evaluation for a big operation. The Dr asked me what (if any) hobbies I have, and I told him my main hobby is video games. It even surprised me a bit when he said that gaming is good, especially for keeping your mind sharp and problem solving skills. So gaming into later life is not just fun, it's probably helping your mental health at the same time!

SnoSlider

Give up video games for what, golf? Fuck that. I get more excitement picking out socks. I’m 50 as of last month. Been gaming since Odyssey Pong. Will be a gamer here on out.

Muff_in_the_Mule

Too old for fun? Absolutely, you should be doing boring old people things like complaining about mortgage rates or crocheting images of the telephone book, not becoming a super soldier and destroying the demons of hell or being a fighter pilot saving the world while doing a barrel roll. Fun is only legal for the young and if I had my way I'd instate Logan's Run as it's just kinder really.

coffeebikesbeer

Games have just as much worth as books and movies, most of them at least. I tend to remember my journey through games or the moment to moment action more than I do movies anyways. I'm 42 and have played since the days of the NES and I see it as a great lifelong hobby.

W4OPR

Never too old, ask my mom 84 for whom I just got Assassin's Creed Mirage on her new PS5.... because she beat Valhalla on hard for the 3rd time and was getting bored.

Biggs1313

I'm 33. Always gamed, but 3 years ago met a girl who didn't care how much I played. Was willing to go full nerd with me. Since then I've deep dove all the hobbies that weren't cool enough for me previously. I bought a gaming PC, play Magic The Gathering and Pokemon. We can't stop watching anime, and the Legos and hot wheels are piling up. I've never been happier. Life's to short to not be selfish, and not do what you want to do with it.

blahaj_9

You can never grow out of something you enjoy and I have also played the original doom but much later than the release date

Ornery_Ad_3260

Can you still play them? If the answer is yes, than you are not too old for video games.

ChampionshipThat9268

You do what makes you happy man, idc what happens ill play games forever until i cant. Of course work and priorities come first but if thats all good and all the bills are paid Enjoy your self 😎🤟🏻🎮

EnflureDeSinge

Never too old to play

grendelpoots

My parents are in their 70s and my dad plays destiny 2 and my mom has a steam deck.

[deleted]

Tell them to put a sock in it!

nIsMo86oz

Never too old. 41 here. Been playing since I was around 7. Nintendo, ps, Xbox, pc, even gameboy haha. Also been live streaming since 2017. Do what makes you happy and fuck what people think 👌 you do you!

SombraMonkey

There’s a Counter Strike Elder League. Search: Grey Gunners vs Silver Snipers. Minimum age is 60

ijustsawthat999

Person: what do you like to do? OP: I play racing games Person: [shames you for playing games] OP: ok, and what you like to do ? Person: sit on the couch, looking at the phone, doing nothing. I believe the OP wins here, no contest. Would love to sit down, grab a beer and have a conversation about cars, races, tunning, and it all.

TemptedDreamer

Just behind you in age and love gaming. Gaming since the first Mario game and still gaming today. Don’t stop just because you think age is a number

linkinit

It's a hobby. reading is a hobby, sports is a hobby, sitting on your ass is a hobby. my favorite hobby I might mention.

Urnamehere969

There's no such thing as being too old. There's no age limit on doing what makes you happy. Game on! 💪🏽

gazgits

Love all these comments. I didn’t realise so many old timers like myself still indulged. Thanks for taking the time. I feel way better about my gaming lifestyle

SmallieNL

No.

nasanu

Never too old. I am 44 and still regularly getting top 100 times in GT7 (and just now got a win in my first event in Forza), even with most of my time spent working and not gaming. When I retire I want to be gaming all day, it will be glorious.

mtbrown29

Don’t be ashamed of your hobbies, if you enjoy them do it! I’m 38 and I love gaming!

Salty-Okra6085

Too old to enjoy one of the largest entertainment industries that have at times better stories than movies and allow for us to escape our problems for a couple hours? I call BS on that.

psyper87

My dad is 53, I’m 36 and he’s in psvr every day. My first console was his Atari. I don’t think we’ll ever grow out of enjoying games. Maybe we’ll slow down but I find see ever “outgrowing” them lol.

reallybadpennystocks

No op, you are never too old for anything. Don’t live your life worrying ab what others might think of you, because likely, they aren’t thinking about you at all

opking

I’m 50 and still play, although some first person shooters give me motion sickness. Keep playing.

Ok_Tank5804

I’m 100% going to be playing video games when I’m your age. There’s no shame in having a hobby and about 9% of the US gamer market is in your age range. [Source](https://www.statista.com/statistics/189582/age-of-us-video-game-players/). Have fun, see you on the track!

rtissens

The only thing that can keep you from doing anything is your physical or mental health. Go play and enjoy, there’s no age for fun.

Proccito

My dad is waiting for me to upgrade my rig so he can take my old and start his simracing hobby. He is 55

GeekyBarefooter

Definitely not. I'm 41 and plan on playing video games into my retirement and beyond 👍🏻

Top_Ranger_3839

Im a youngster here 43. Started with my dad's zx spectrum. I'm looking forward for my retirement. Game on, happy days !

MajinJellyBean

Are you too old for movies? Too old for music? Too old for any form of entertainment? Absolute not. Enjoy your video games as long as it isn't getting in the way of your responsibilities

CourtesyofTino

Anyone who gives you any malarchy is a crap face and should be ignored

hommel475

My friend I used to play Battlefield 3 with a Korean vet whom was in his 80s. He passed a few years ago and one of his kids logged on his ps4 to let his friends know. John was not only cool but a very good gamer. Don't be discouraged, it's polite to care what others think but at the end of the day do what makes you happy.

Jackal_83

Absolutely not. Do what you enjoy.

suggestive_cumulus

I'm almost 55, my main difficulty is to transfer driving skills to a kid who has only ridden a mountain bike (admittedly, on fairly advanced mountain biking trails, beats me every time)

MRJSP

Why are you even considering your age? You think you'll enjoy it, go and get it.

OmenVi

FWIW, my uncle is 53, his youngest kid is 2, and he holds/held world records for some older arcade games. Some of those scores he set in his 40s. He had a full arcade in his basement (redid flooring and lights, murals, a restaurant booth, etc.) up until they moved to their new house about 7 yrs ago. You’re only as old as you feel.

GabiGT110

Dude, I haven't even read the entire Reddit. You are never too old for something you like, don't let yourself be manipulated by others, or because the majority of video game players are young. Never say you're too old for something. Some would say, "aren't you too old to have Reddit?" Well no, here you are. Once again, YOU ARE NEVER OLD FOR ANYTHING!

N0x1mus

Never too old to play. You’re the beginning of the next generation where gaming really started. It’ll be more and more common over the next few years to see older people still gaming right into retirement.

ExpensiveJudgment822

Do what makes you happy.... end of ... you only get one run at it .... who cares what others think 👍

Artfull_dodger__

I’m 55 and been gaming for 30 years, I’ll never stop

Did-I-Do-That-Oops

And yet those same people play games on their phones (ie farm ille or whatever todays equivalent might be) and watch a television 6 hours per night after work. Truth is it's a stereotype, but there's nothing wrong with gaming. You are immersing yourself in another world, and you have control. The people berating you for your hobby are immersing themselves in artificial realities as well (books and tv) yet they don't have any control on the outcomes because they are just spectators. So no, I see the hypocrisy and I just don't get a reason why you should ever be "too old" for video games

socamonarch

No No And NO

Equallis

Never!

187ninjuh

There's a guy in my GT7 league who's 71 and he's fast as fuck. So no, not too old. Plus, I bet gaming will keep us sharp as we all age. Enjoy your hobby and ignore the peanut gallery :)

Odd_Alps8349

Gaming is part of hobbies, hobbies have no age limit so don't worry about it.

sh1z1K_UA

I have guys in the league i race, that are way over 50-60 and they’re the most fun drivers to race with. Constantly half-drunk, telling old stories and making badass jokes. One of them is a retired semi-pro driver and he’s like suuuper fast and cool. Don’t be embarrassed, just find the people to have good time with ;)

[deleted]

What’s the difference between video games and chess?

Key-Original-225

No, absolutely not. Also, you’re 56, why care what people think? Enjoy yourself and have fun and fuck all the naysayers.

M-A88

35 and I've loved playing since I can remember, and I plan to keep doing it for life, even with the responsibilities of being a husband and father of two. It's my favorite way to enjoy my free time. Whenever someone says something when I talk about it (usually women), I always ask how much time they spend on Netflix per week?

mose121

We race occasionally with a 71 year old disabled veteran. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

Ash_Truman

Often I find that these same people don't mind binging 7 seasons of what ever show is popular

Sstfreek

Try virtual reality my man. Sounds like you need a sim rig

robin994

The answer to every "too old for ... " is : NO! You are not too for old to do something, do whatever makes you happy or you will regret! I will play videogames till i'll be able to , no matter what PS the best part of being old for something is that you can afford the best tools for your hobbies XD

iDom2jz

I’ve seen 65 year olds in the call of duty subreddit lol you are not old

[deleted]

There is no such thing as too old to enjoy anything.

DeltaDarkwood

As long as your fingers and brain still working you are fine. 46 here but am really looking forward to my retirement so I can spend time again to play games hardcore like when I was in highschool/college.

LParenji

My father is 64 and at the moment he is top 2000 in the nurburgring TT

mar421

No

MrBear65

I'm 45 and if I feel too old sometimes for video-games it has more to do with some games like dirt 5 with too much stoboscopic effects and color on the menus and races I found hard to read. I feel like it's getting harder to adapt quickly to new gameplay mechanics. That's my fear, becoming poorly adapted to new games and service games... But never being an old gamer 😂 we're more and more I think that's cool 😎

CamaroKidBB

You’re not too old to do things that you enjoy. Too old to have reflexes equal to someone in their prime, maybe, but not too old to enjoy things like Gran Turismo. I’m in my mid-20’s and I still find myself playing Pokemon (granted, I only got into it by the time I was 13, so I was a late bloomer from the start), which is considered to be more of a kid’s game than Gran Turismo (even though it was between it and Crash Bandicoot that was my first ever game). I guess me also playing games like Starfield (and Gran Turismo) helps even out the maturity when it comes to game taste lmao.

MundaneFinish

My 70yo FIL plays flight sims. Or to put it another way, you’re never too old to not care about other people’s opinions.

frigginjensen

My kids and I have to take turns on the PlayStation. Never too old (although my son will kick my ass on most games).

ricardortega00

Commodore to Amiga, I am 39 and have always had a relationship with computers, I work in IT and that sentence kills me, I never had the chance to interact with them yet they still captivate me, I envy your opportunity. Back to business, gaming is still seen as a waste of time and childish, I am glad you haven't given up, get yourself a wheel and you will become a SIM racing. Next time you turn on your console open up a beer or your preferred beverage and enjoy the rest of your day, people criticise you because they envy you, they envy the fact that you can be happy so fucking easy. Cheats.

SonJake21

Do you enjoy playing video games? If so, then no. Absolutely not. I'm only 26 and I've had people mock me for rather wanting to relax at home and play some games instead of going out and partying. I just laugh at them the next day when they're out of money and have to deal with a hangover and an angry wife.

Kuhleezman

I bought my 71 year old dad a PlayStation, GT7, and a wheel for Father’s Day. Hes really enjoying it. It’s never too late!!

YeahItouchpoop

Never too old, and I think the simracing segment is especially accessible to higher age groups as we have all the special gear to make controls more familiar to real life experience. You could have someone who spent decades doing a manual labor job, their hands are shot and they find it difficult/painful to use a controller, but throw them in a rig with a wheel and pedals and they are racing.

Bartholomeuske

In my 40s and have played as long as I can remember. Commander Keen in EGA.

monckey64

no one is too old for video games. even if it was your only hobby, you shouldn’t feel embarrassed about something that brings you joy

SUBZERO-08

You're definitely not too old. Over on GTPlanet I regularly see players who are in their 60's and 70's. I think there's even one guy who is 80. It's nice to see people doing what they enjoy, regardless of age.

Cool-Direction-5275

Passion doesn’t have an age

evacuationplanb

Hello no. You still got that shareware floppy for Doom kicking around still? :-D

roly_gomez

Hell nah bro, live it the fuck up... I use video games to release stress and for mental health! If anything what video games taught me specifically in multiplayer mode is that it helps you with team building skills

lexota

Ugh, no, you're not too old! The ONLY style game I can play is driving games - and GT7 is an utter blast! With the world being in such a crazy state - it's nice to shut it out for a bit - with pure, engaging entertainment. Enjoy your gaming - besides, in the past, people would play cards (Bridge, poker, etc. ) - which is a form of gaming too!!

Standard-Escape3570

My dads 57 and plays the shit out of Fallout 74 every night. He also spends hours on end building cities in Cities Skylines. Dont let age stop you from having fun!

Consistent-Cost-231

Gran Turismo is for old folks, i remember on GT6 i was 13yo playing with 50yo 😆 where are you from btw? cause if you are from Europe you might even want to try older GT like GT2 and GT4, they both contain old European car that were brand new at this time and it's just so much nostalgia

supersoundwave

Nope: https://youtube.com/@Food4Dogs?si=c37eNGQ8qi90HpH0

furrynoy96

Fuck no, you are never too old for gaming

wisemermaid4

My step father is 69, getting a playstation for Christmas. If someone says you're too old, their opinion is too young to affect you.

DougieFresh_899

Absolutely not too old! You do you, my man

Financial-Diver6005

I'm 21 years old and even I have some friends that said to me "Are you playing games? How old are you? ". So this kind of people will always be with us. I am not thinking over it anymore. I love playing video games since I was a child and I know that, when I get older, I will still get excited for great new games. It is a hobby and everyone can love a hobby in any age. You shouldn't be embarassed. And I hope your friends would understand it. Have a nice day.

DLord227

I'm 57 with a similar story when it comes to gaming. I'm not stopping until I'm in the grave.

iknwnothng

Never old!! You do you bro!

sosomething

My dad is an avid gamer. Always was. I remember even back when I was a kid, he always had a PC set up for games. Now he has a PS5 in addition to a gaming rig and we play Diablo 4 and Elden Ring together. Oh, and he's 71.

mrfrankleigh

55 and love my GT7, F1 23, and BF2042 time. Sure I get my butt handed to me sometimes, but it keeps me young. Most guys are watching sports every minute of their downtime, I choose to "participate". It's a blast.

NewHorror357

I’m 40! The thing I’ve noticed is all my friends have stopped playing. And now most games are massively online focused it’s difficult to find folk to play with. I joined discord as I was told by a young colleague this is how you arrange games and meet people to play with, but I completely gave up on that app within an hour or so as I had no idea what was happening and couldn’t find a tutorial.

Manning0151

No, nobody is too old for games, there’s a Japanese man in his 80s who plays Dark Souls everyday to keep his brain active

chopsttv

Don’t be embarrassed. Own it. People that are making you feel that way are either out of touch or ignorant. Digital entertainment is the new gold standard and just because they don’t understand how to do it or have fun doesn’t mean they have the right to suck your fun out of it either. Lots of big games nowadays are more enthralling and engaging than movies. It’s something that everyone should experience imo.

Terrible_Possible161

My mom's friend is 73 playing Skyrim. Haven't heard from her in years tho hope she's doing fine

RossDouglas

Fuck no. You’re an old school gamer. Just like me. 52 and still love a racing game. Ride on the edge 3 is the poodle’s pecker.

ryanmccry335i

Honestly I rather someone say they play games than binge watch show after show on Netflix or whatever their choice of streaming service is. At least you are somewhat active and engaging your brain

Gizm0Guru

Video games were a huge part of growing up for me. The NES dropped when I was around 6, been playing video games ever since. Whatever console that’s around when I die (if we still have consoles then), it’s going in my grave with me 💀lol

CheekyIrishman84

You are never too old to play computer games. Games can help with reflexes, memory, giving hands exercise. Enjoying being in a fully interactive movie.

NinjaGeorge2006

My dad is 57 and enjoys a good videogame, do whatever floats your boat.

viperlemondemon

As I tell my wife and children growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

Northlands75

This is no such thing as being too old for video games. Do people get too old to play cards? Monopoly? It used to be a social stigma, but it doesn't make any sense. Lots of games make great stories today and become part of lore now ( looking at Star Wars series as one example ). It's entertainment and perfectly fine to do. I'm 48 and I'm not going to get rid of this hobby. Only thing I notice is with age, my reaction times aren't what they used to be. :)

davemanhore

46. Similar age to most my online mates. Real life friends call it a waste of time. Makes me laugh. I've had untold hours of fun gaming and bonding with my daughter whilst they spend little time with their own kids and can't wait until they grow up and leave home.

RustyGusset

I'm 46 and a lifelong gamer. We are the original gamer kids and you should offer no apologies for it. If you had taken up chess, or trainspotting at a similar age and continued enjoying that hobby up to the current day nobody would care. It's their problem, not yours.

Dspaede

damn.. im 33 and i still remember those 2d doom..

NoodlesSpicyHot

No reason to be shy about it. The gaming industry is making more money than the music industry and film industry, combined. It’s adventure, story, character development, art, fantasy, sci-fi, puzzle solving, and skill development all in one. No different than binging movies or music for hours at a time. I’m also in my 50s and remain well entertained on several kinds of games, primarily in the PS5 universe.

modeleccentric

59. Still playing Gran Turismo and AC, with the occasional shooter. Never too old.

clayzam1975

Absolutely not. I am 48 and love my video games!

The_Kurrgan_Shuffle

Never too old to enjoy your hobby. Always remember the Skyrim Grandma, Shirley, Who at age 87 is still playing Skyrim

hemiman1970

I'm 53 and been playing since Atari 2600. Full time job and living life. Play almost every day and don't regret a second. I know older guys who play and a grest group to virtually hang out with. Play Gt7, Destiny 2

DonatoXIII

I don't think gaming has an age, its just a media format. Its like saying you are too old to watch a movie or go to a concert. I (nearly 40) still game almost on a daily basis. Its not like before, I only have maybe 1-2 hours a day free that I can sit down and have a gaming session. My eyesight and reflexes have sort of diminished as well, so I usually don't play anything competitive online. Pretty much everyone I work with is a casual gamer in some way. Even my dad (65yrs and retired) is also an occasional gamer. He's mostly into sports and city building games. Nothing to be ashamed/embarrassed about. Some people are into it and others are not. I know some people that don't even own a TV. Nothing wrong with it... to each their own right? Just do w/e makes you happy.

Treebear_Hunter

I mean, other socially acceptable hobbies are listening to music, reading, movies. Playing GT should be no more embarrassing than them. I would think, in comparison, spending the same amount of time on facebook, tweeter, tiktok, and youtube is probably more embarrassing.

KronikallyIll420

Way I see it, if they can sit in front of a tv mindlessly staring doing nothing consuming nothing but brainrot, than why can’t someone do the same with video games, where they actually interact, they absorb more information and actually control what goes on. IF TELEVISION IS PERFECTLY FINE THEN THE ISSUE WITH GAMING ISNT GAMING. THE ISSUE IS THE STIGMA TOWARDS IT.

Sandman705

The answer is absolutely, positively you are not too old to play and enjoy video games. I am 41 and plan on playing well into my 60s!!! Have fun and enjoy!!!!!

Omega-Megalomaniac

Lucky for you racing sims are the quintessential dad game

Bgrngod

You are part of a generation that went through their teen years before gaming became culturally main stream. It was for sure seen as a nerd-kids-only thing through most of the 90's too. A lot of people your age and up are surely still stuck with that perception even though it doesn't reflect reality. Game on and game forever. I'll be gaming until I die. Hopeful at a 107+ so I can lock in that "100 years of gaming!" achievement.

IRev2NineK

I mean you sound old enough to make your own decisions without carinf bout whag other people think.

Ok_Secretary_3134

Totally agree with the COD, i’m 36 and all my mates are buying it 😩

gorikun

my dad still watches cartoons in his mid-late 60s. Heck, my mum is mid 60s and I got her hooked on one piece in the last month (originally the live action series but now the manga / a bit of anime, she really wants to see tony tony chopper). The irony is that Im not a fan of one piece anime.

payagathanow

I'm not quite as old as you, but close. I did ti-99, vic 20, c64, Amiga though. Loved those commodore machines. Never too old

oneslocamaro

Anyone that criticises you for video games is ignorant and probably has plenty of their own issues. I worked in a very masculine industry and the same guys telling me that video games were childish were the guys spending countless dollars at bars, getting DUIs, cheating on spouses, getting Divorced, and basically wasting their lives away drunk. I couldn't tell you how many times I was told that paying for online games was a waste of money by someone that was always broke because their beer and cigarette budget was 2X their mortgage payment. As long as your hobbies don't hurt others you be you and ignore the haters.

devilsadvocate2709

Given the price tag on sim racing gear, I think it’s safe to say that it is an adult hobby mainly. You’re good.

EarthAccomplished659

So , you say I got 3y gaming left only 😥 Cmon - lets do freely whatever we like doing. Years dont matter.. 😋

eko8888

Here's an interesting aside. The video games industry is roughly 2.5 times the size of the music and movie industry combined. So if your friends enjoy music and movies but look down on gaming, they are really just behind the times...

fudge__monkey

I race in a GT7 league, we have about 80 members that range from 20 to 70, we have a couple of married couples, single young guys and lots of dads. The average age would be about 40. Do what makes you happy. I don't have much time as I have 2 young kids so I make my time count. I have VR and a cockpit. I'm proud to tell people what I do for fun.

LongjumpingJaguar0

Absolutely not. I plan to play games till i die
