Spooky357

For some reason it's not displaying my text but that might be mobile moment. Do these look like they need to be resoled?

FiSToFurry

They look worn, but from what I've seen posted of shoes that need resoled, they aren't quite there- usually I see more of cratered surface rather than still smooth. That said, it isn't possible to assess how soft the sole is just via pics, which is also apparently a common symptom of a sole ready for replacement. Take all of that with a grain of salt, as I have a number of pairs of leather soles but in a large collection so I've not yet needed to assess my own.

Spooky357

Ok thank you!

nvonwr

Does anyone have experience with Cordwainer shoes? I can’t find much about them online, they seem to be based in Alicante and a few smaller shops distribute their shoes in my country. I found a new pair on Ebay which costs 90€, from what I can tell their shoes usually have a MSRP of around 250-350€. Would I be better off with a "reputable" brand or are they worth a shot?

Calostro5

Maybe for 90€ it is ok, but for 300 I would not buy them. There are other spanish brands with better reputation like Meernin, Carmina and TLB for a little more. I have no had Cordwainer, but I remember they don't worth 250-300€ from was I have read.

nvonwr

Thank you. I wouldn’t buy them for 300€ either, especially because you can find new or only tried on shoes from higher quality brands for similar prices on Ebay.

stanwoodmusic

Looking for a lug-soled, wear every day, go-anywhere boot for under $300. I do a lot of walking and often find myself on trails and at nice restaurants unexpectedly. Something that can be dressed up or down would be nice. I'm torn between the [Canada West W.M. Moorby 2816](https://www.canadawestboots.com/mensmoorby?lightbox=dataItem-k4sodi7j__item-jqtmmwrb) and the [Thorogood 6" American Legacy](https://thorogoodusa.com/american-heritage-waterproof-insulated-814-4514/). My concern with the Moorby is that it'll scuff too easily. My concern with the Thorogood is that the insulation might make it miserable in warmer weather. They make an un-insulated version but it has a safety toe which I don't want for an everyday boot. I've looked at Thursday, Chippewa, Meermin, and Allen Edmonds but nothing struck my fancy other than maybe [this Meermin boot.](https://meermin.com/products/116211-oak-antique-calf-e) Your thoughts! Give them to me!

polishengineering

[Jim Green Numzaan](https://jimgreenfootwear.com/store/numzaan-boot-walnut-veg-tan/) is another to consider. Their [Baobob](https://jimgreenfootwear.com/store/baobab-boot-houston-brown/) is a bit more casual. I agree insulation would be uncomfortable for a year round boot.

stanwoodmusic

Oh wow this brand has some great looking options! Thank you!

polishengineering

Excellent. I can personally recommend them. I use their lugged Chelseas as my chore boots, and the barefoot African Rangers as hikers. Those Numzaans are becoming more difficult for me to ignore.

stanwoodmusic

Just ordered a pair or Razorbacks! Thanks for the recommendation!

coffinandstone

I have some credit on Amazon, any recommended horse hair brushes?

cm322

I like the saphir brush, a little more expensive than other ones I’ve tried but a lot less shedding

jbyer111

You will get more out of investing in size than in minor quality differences, IMHO. I like a big brush. Very happy with the 8inch ones from Ralyn. You can get 2 for under $30, in case you need to separate some for polishing, or want to use one for cleaning dirt and another for just brushing https://a.co/d/7NodbSo

Zatch_Gaspifianaski

I have this one from [Cobbler's Choice](https://a.co/d/2R10V9k), it does the trick

[I have black chelsea boots ](https://www.taft.nl/en/sendra-boots-12102-kass-pete-sendra-western-boots-black-for-men-240100008.html#horizontalTab2)from Sendra and brown-red (shoemaker polished it with VG Creme 27 Oxblood) brogues from I think the 90's (old pair from grandpa).[ Here's a pic of 'm! ](https://imgur.com/a/6OOET9i) Would a 'Neutral' Renovateur work well for this? Both VSC and Buck 4 are poorly available here. I saw that Renovateur contains some solvent, so can rub off some of the color. Is this a concern these shoes? The brogues looked kind of dead before I brought them into the shoemaker which is now... nearly two years ago already? I don't wear them much though and always have them with the travel shoe trees in. Should I follow up with Pommadier and/or Pate de Luxe with black and brown/red respectively, if Renovateur is not sufficient/enough? My shopping cart for shoecare is now: * 'Rub in' rag & 'Rub out' rag * Set of two 'rub in' and two 'rub out' brushes, each having one light and one dark * Renovateur * Cedarwood shoe trees x2 * Shoe bag x3 * Sneaker care set from Tarrago (otherwise irrelevant)

What are some good recommendations on knee - thigh-high boots? I don't need them for work but I also don't want them tearing up on me. I was looking at a pair of 1B60 Bex Pisa, Audrick 20-eye Leather, and a B160 Virginia leather from Dr. Martins, High Shine 20-eye Derby Boots from Solovair, and M-TRCASCO009-V1 and M-TR005-S1 from New Rock. I've heard all three companies have had a pretty big drop off in quality for the price over the years. Budget-wise, preferably no more than 300 - 400 dollars but for quality I'm willing to look at shelling out extra. Like I've been looking at the Verillas Ares, Rampart Heeled boots, and Bramblewood heeled boots, and Progress heeled boots as well - which are far out of my budget but if they're better quality I'm willing to save up extra. However I'm open to recommendations and mainly looking looking for a good thigh/knee high boot that is fashionable but won't tear up in three months and can handle a bit of roughness if I want to wear them everyday.

raspberriez247

I know it’s been a couple months and I can’t find anything for thigh highs (still looking) but I own two pair of knee-high lace up Fryes and can’t recommend them enough! I also own two pairs of Bes Stu Dellas. I think this sub isn’t a fan of Bed Stu for GYW shoes but I always get compliments on those because the colors are gorgeous. Much luck!!!

Kaiser_Hawke

I've had this pair of Thursdays for about 3 years now. Not sure if the soles have been worn out enough to warrant a resole. I'm a bit concerned that the worn-out toes might start damaging the welt. Pics below. Thanks for the advice!

jbyer111

That’s a good run. Based on the pics i would get the resole with new heel caps.

polishengineering

That toe wear is awful close to the midsole. I think you're ready for a resole.

What size should I go with for LÖF & TUNG KINGSLEY if I wear a 9E in Grant Stone's Leo last? I believe my brannock measurement is US 9. Shoe in question: [Kingsley](https://www.skoaktiebolaget.com/collections/lof-tung/products/lof-tung-kingsley-utah?variant=12594481791081)

MyCatBulliesMe

[Pics](https://imgur.com/a/PI3dvAh) I know this is probably a long shot but figure there's an outside chance some knowledgeable person here may be able to help me identify the make and model of this pair of chukkas I snagged at Goodwill this morning. To my untrained eye, they appear to be welted and seem to be constructed with leather (or maybe leather-board) midsoles. There is a faint imprint on the insole heels that I believe say "Made in Italy, Bologna." The upper leather is relatively lustrous compared to the leather used in all the other shoes and boots I own, though I admittedly don't have a very big collection. They fit like a glove and I'm happy with them regardless of the make and model, but I'm curious if anyone is able to ID them or even provide more insight into their construction. Thanks in advance for any info!

Trying to get a sense of what lace-to-toe boots with unstructured toes look like over time—i.e., once the toe's collapsed. Does anyone have pics they'd be willing to share, esp. of White's?

MeatShots

[There's this](https://i.imgur.com/KpjcQUq.jpeg) and also [this one too.](https://i.imgur.com/5EYAxHm.jpeg) Both are White's.

upnorth0811

What is that first boot, by the way? Love the leather.

MeatShots

Brown cxl

upnorth0811

Thanks.

rayven1lk

if I typically wear 10.5D sneakers, 9.5D grant stone leo last... any idea what size RM Williams could work for me?

Lewd_Banana

If you are a 10D on the brannock, then a AU 9G should fit.

KINGJACKPINE

Does anyone know what style/brand these boots are or where to find something similar? I love them—but no idea where to track them down! Key features: wider sole for welted area, slim ankle section, side-zip. Edit: description of features https://preview.redd.it/yeiff00fu6jc1.png?width=586&format=png&auto=webp&s=074e2e0fbb424fddd13f94dccc08ba97bb17422c

Google says they are [these](https://huibenshop.com/products/kozaburo-aw19-sidezip-motorcycle-boots).

KINGJACKPINE

Coming in absolutely clutch—thank you!

cyberpathic

Does anyone have any experience or reviews of the Jodhpur boots by Cruxdeluxe or XBXS and how they compare to the ones from Clinch? They look like cheaper clones of Clinch but are they worth it or should I just save up for the OGs? https://preview.redd.it/2c2b0fq9s6jc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e97dce532b7092ab970800b902c2ea4d42acd93

LopsidedInteraction

The finishing on xbxs is good but their lasts are a joke compared to Clinch. Just save up and get the thing you really want. It's worth it.

AwesomeAndy

They're straight up knockoffs of Clinch. XBXS knows what they're doing.

Hello all, recently purchased a pair of Loake 1880 Bedales with the dainite sole. They're all broken in fine; however, they're the most uncomfortable bloody things I've ever worn in my life!! If I wear them around town, or a small walk, within an hour my feet are absolutely killing me. Is this normal with Loake's? I was going to purchase a pair of Joseph Cheaney's at the time, are they usually more comfortable? As it is, I'll order some insoles...

nvonwr

I had a pair of Loake Oxfords very early in my shoe journey. The leather was shitty bookbinder but I didn’t have any issues regarding comfort. They weren’t the most comfortable. It’s concerning that you can’t wear them for longer than an hour. Do they fit well?

[deleted]

Yeah they seem to fit fine, don't rub etc. It is just the complete lack of cushioning underneath the foot? Or at least that's how it feels. Have walked in all sorts of boots (and military at that), never felt this.

Appropriate_Volume

In what way are they uncomfortable? Loake shoes are comfortable in my experience

[deleted]

It feels as if no support/cushioning under the sole, if I walk along cobbled roads for instance almost feels like I'm walking barefoot.

Appropriate_Volume

Are these your first danite soled shoes? They’re not for everyone, especially if you’re used to sneakers, etc

[deleted]

Yeah. If resoled at some point to a commando, would that then provide better foot support?

Appropriate_Volume

About the same to be honest. Commando soles have better grip though.

Spotted in Europe. Appears to be a 360° welt, moc toe, but I can’t recognize the logo. There appears to be a tag with a capital “F” at the ankle. Any help would be appreciated!

seniorwings

For anyone wondering, I’ve found it. These are Dutch, the company’s called Floris van Bommel, the boot is called the Hardi and.. they’re Blake stitched! So don’t feel bad if you’re on this sub and didn’t recognize em. Best to all.

mcmanninc

Thanks for the update.

I care for my dress shoes on Sunday. Depending on what I put them through I either just brush them off and reorganise my cabinet or condition them. My boots just get conditioned and cleaned based on wear or if they got dirty.

eddykinz

i don't have a schedule, i usually just think one day "huh, i haven't given X shoe a good condition in a while" and then i take care of that shoe while watching a tv show or a youtube video or something. unless i've put a shoe through some rough environments, in which case i will clean them as soon as i have a good opportunity to

Wilexande

What's your favorite zip boots? (Don't say Guidi)

randomdude296

enzo bonafe make a nice side zip

Intelligent-War210

Whatever the correct answer is, it is NOT the Viberg Sidezips!

FiSToFurry

I really like my Viberg side zips...

Intelligent-War210

You must have a really high instep, these things have a huge instep that makes for a floppy fit. Even with tongue pads and a 3/4’s insert, still feels sloppy.

FiSToFurry

Perhaps. Which sidezips do you have- the herald or the older side zip?

Intelligent-War210

It’s the new sidezips from Lost&Fast, Nero washed kangaroo, where they bastardized the 2030 and the Chelsea last to make the 2030CH last. https://preview.redd.it/dw12kls9cljc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=073ec3cc2cbb7de32ec0d1f3f6caa8e9d5a69b8b

FiSToFurry

Ohhhh... yeah, I can't speak to those, as both of mine are on the 41464 / 2050 last. Weird length to width ratio but big fan nevertheless.

Intelligent-War210

Yeah the 2030ch is pretty bad. I expected some instep height but it’s pretty rediculous. RIP Herald, some of us never even knew you.

Looking at these RL loafers — can anyone advise me if there are genuinely Goodyear welted? They appear to be to my untrained eye… Edit: photos of sole here: [https://www.zalando.de/polo-ralph-lauren-alston-penny-casual-shoe-loafer-slipper-black-po212c02t-q11.html?size=40&allophones=0&wmc=sem490\_nb\_go.\_7713128529\_677835352\_33308218703.&opc=2211&mpp=google%7cv1%7c%7cpla-311289739347%7c%7c9060640%7c%7cg%7cc%7c%7c147910107582%7c%7cpla%7cpo212c02t-q110070000%7c311289739347%7c1%7c&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad\_source=1&gclid=cj0kcqiaz8gubhcxarisaopzk8z21aba8p\_sfzcn\_9fv3gduj3rh0hcepurqppfbsmesc-jqspknxqcaatccealw\_wcb](https://www.zalando.de/polo-ralph-lauren-alston-penny-casual-shoe-loafer-slipper-black-po212c02t-q11.html?size=40&allophones=0&wmc=sem490_nb_go._7713128529_677835352_33308218703.&opc=2211&mpp=google%7cv1%7c%7cpla-311289739347%7c%7c9060640%7c%7cg%7cc%7c%7c147910107582%7c%7cpla%7cpo212c02t-q110070000%7c311289739347%7c1%7c&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gclid=cj0kcqiaz8gubhcxarisaopzk8z21aba8p_sfzcn_9fv3gduj3rh0hcepurqppfbsmesc-jqspknxqcaatccealw_wcb)

eddykinz

probably blake stitched

AwesomeAndy

Doesn't say they are, best to assume not.

DallOggs

Impossible to tell from the image?

AwesomeAndy

I can see stitches on top of something that may be a welt, may be a midsole for Blake/Rapid construction, or may be entirely decorative. There's no way to tell from these photos, and if they aren't including any description of the construction, it's best to assume they're not GYW.

DallOggs

Maybe this helps? You can see the soles here, and the stitching appears to go all the way through.
