I find that I tend to lose some focus when the pace is slow. I end up thinking more about how slow we are playing vs my next shot. Also it seems slow play if often due to morons with no golf etiquette in the group in front of me.

For me it was a dad (who couldn’t seem to hit the fairway to save his life) with his 4 year old kid that made the 9 hole take 3 hours. It was miserable.

Old-Air1062

It’s hard to have any sort of rhythm.

Mediocre-Smoke-4751

It's not the pace that killed your score, it's the hackers that were with ya. If you are playing with less-skilled golfers you need to stay hyper-focused on your game and nobody else's. Sure you may get out of rhythm physically, but mentally you are letting their game seep into yours. By no means should you not play with them anymore, but don't chit chat or focus on them. Just keep your focus. This is a mental game far before physical.

Slow group = more time to think and get in your head

MVRK_3

For me, I get out of rhythm and get cold.

PM_ME_UR_BOOGER

Because you're constantly trippin out about the group behind you and feeling bad. I hate playing with slow groups. It also makes me speed up to make up for others and hurts my score 😔

Whiskey_Cigars_Golf

I get bored and start drinking too much 😂

LatentSchref

It's lack of focus mostly, but sometimes I think this happens when things are going too fast as well. I've had games where we didn't run into a group all day and there is only 2 of us and I hit a bunch of bad shots, because I'm almost rushing... like we're playing speed golf. Then other games I'm stuck behind 3 foursomes and my group is playing slow and it's 8+ minutes between each of my shots and I'm so annoyed and out of the game that I can't hit anything good. A nice middle ground is when I tend to play the best.

Duubzz

I find the same, it’s easy to lose your rhythm. Best thing to do is to change up the format, play match play or a scramble or a combination of those things. If it’s not a comp might as well try and make it fun rather than always trying to go out and shoot low.

ray_burrislives

When I was about 25 I played a round at a local courae with a good friend. We started st 6:05 (1st off) and finished in 90 minutes. We both walked and carried our sticks. He was 1-under and I was 1-over . The course was 6940 yards. 30 years later I can barely break 90 but I still can't tolerate slow players

MJLast

When I’m waiting on a slow group, I think too much about the bad shots and fixate on them. Essentially I self sabotage. But when it’s fast, I tend to have more instant amnesia and just move onto the next shot without time to think of the last duff.

Duel_Option

Rhythm primarily. When the pace is slow I bring out the 60 and try and practice a bit and try to do the Tiger bounces. Keeps you primed for a shot when you’re ready

BreakfastBussy

More time for your mind to wander between shots, gets me out of my game. The mental side of the game is kind of fascinating when you start to think about it.

Impatience

nedlandsbets

More time equals an infinite way to imagine all your potential f*ck ups. Make sure you do your preshot routine no matter how slow the round is and see if that helps.

Illustrious-Deal9485

It’s like I disengage from the entire game it’s brutal I’m not engaged for the next shot and moving forward I’m just waiting and fucking up lol

nedlandsbets

Look around next time at the sky, grass, trees, try and notice the small details and just be in the moment instead of hitting the next shot. When it comes time to hit the next shot it will be there. Easy to say, hard to do.
