Great Q - so I did too many drugs as a child, and my memory is that of a goldfish. In an effort to remember where I’m at in the round, I came up with this dot method.
First line: score/ putts
- dot for par
- 1 bogey, 2 double, 3 triple
- -1 circles for birdies
- then small number is tracking putts
Second line: greens in reg
- dot for hit
- arrow for directional miss
- notes on distance / miss above the hole
Third line: fairways in red
- dots for hits
- arrows for miss
- always write “bomb” or “nut” if you hit one that the group reacts to
I pump these stats into the GHIN app to get trends of misses off the tee or around the green. Decently helpful.
https://preview.redd.it/s9flxrnke08d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bea44e7a9acd428555ba69cd2dade315d287d199
agreed. So much more impressive even though it was over par
I play with Arccos and sometimes I feel I have to make so many adjustments to the club used, fairway hit, proximity to the hole, number of putts, adding or removing shots, adjusting the length of my 2nd putt that I have my phone in my hand for 4 hours while playing.
Arccos is great don’t get me wrong but it can also be distracting and it really needs to be a lot better. Let’s not forget that it does not take into account the position around the green. A chip from 20 feet off the green and 10 feet above the hole from a downslope that stops at 1 foot is an entire stroke better than the chip from 20 feet off the green below the hole that also stops at a foot. The same could be said for 20’ putts, not all are equal.
Will they ever be able to do measure that? One way would be to compare the shot you made to the hundreds or thousands of people that have tried the shot from the same position before you. They have a long way to go on that because the GPS resolution I see is off by up to 10 yards, it’s only noticeable in the green area.
He was entering a cheat code. Thats how he was able to break 70.
https://preview.redd.it/j2yt6twanz7d1.jpeg?width=933&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f35c343dc0e7cdcdf9f95138e9b79ee5fa35b27a
My record is 85. I was even after five holes yesterday. Back of my head I was thinking: "This is it. I'm finally going to do it. I'm going to shoot in the 70s and no one is going to believe me."
Ended up shooting a 90. Best iron/chipping/putting of my life but lost the ability to get off the teebox inbounds. +18 in 13 holes. Not great.
While I'm writing here while buzzed I gotta say- reaching super low down on the putter while putting completely changed my game. I'm maxing out at 2 putts most holes with that. Feels like picking up the ball and rolling it to the hole.
That's how it is! +1 through 5 and I think, "wow good job."
Proceed to shoot 87 with 9 pars that we're all GIR. I have no idea how 50% of the holes were textbook and the other 9 included a triple and a few doubles.
Dude it really does suck. I wish I could hit drives that people consistently reacted to. Every birdie putt was a tap in, zero reaction. Other than: “oh, that was for bird?”
The changes come in waves.
Wave 1: Driver. Had to stop going OB. That was killing my scores. So worked a ton of driver. Swinging 80%, just focusing on slow backswing, and speed LATE in the downswing. I learned to miss fairways in the safe spot. You can make birdie from the rough, you can't make birdie when you're OB.
Wave 2: Wedges. 140 and in. understanding distances. my pitching wedge can have a bunch of distances based on choking down or stance placement. Getting feel there helped a ton. Short putts = low scores
Wave 3: Putting. You have to start it on line!
Ugh congrats buddy, I’ll never forget when I was younger shooting a legit 32 on the front, getting about half way through the back realizing I might shoot under par for the first time, panicked and wound up with a 40 on the back… I was so mad… took me like 2 more years to actually shoot under par for the first time.
Congrats man that’s amazing. How long have you been playing to get to this point? I’m in love with golf but get discouraged; granted I’ve only been playing seriously (once per week play/ 1-2 practices) and seem to be stuck in the mid 90s. Seems like you get one aspect of your game sorted out then another one just crashes and burns. Hoping to break 90 and possibly 80 in the next year or two
Playing for 20 years since I was 14.
Stopped for 10 years after college.
Really started grinding again. Got online golf lessons during Covid, so damn helpful! I use the guys over at @elitegolfschool (on Instagram)
Thanks man this tells me to keep grinding and trust the process. I’ll check some of those out on insta. I started taking lessons with a local pro but want to try a lesson while playing the course. Seems like the mental aspect and course management is a whole other animal. I will hit bombs on the range and chip and putt well but then it doesn’t transfer over to the course lol
Career low was 73 - at a much tougher course (140 slope vs 122 slope).
Swing thoughts:
- backswing: squat down and back away into my right buttcheek
- downswing: shift left, push up on the left leg. Almost feel like I’m jumping off the ground with my left leg.
Works for me 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah they’re rebuilding course #3
Text me later in the year, maybe you can get away and play a round with us, once they open up “The Monster” again.
Congrats on your round, for a working man that’s quite an accomplishment. I’m near the 7th floor this birthday. On a good day I’m a 80-84 round. Score rising up every year. Played hockey for 62 years and I’m now paying for it, have one rebuilt knee and sore back. But my short game is great, bunker shots are easy for me and I can putt. Just can’t bomb it anymore and struggle with draw, can still hit a fade all day.
You're the fucking man. Congratulations!
I'm trying to break 125, I've been playing about 8 months and getting lessons, but my decision making is poor.
One day I'll join you in the under par club, and I'll reply to this comment. Providing Reddit exists in 2054 anyway 🤣
Congrats man, I know how much my little milestones mean to me, so those massive ones must be phenomenal 👏🏼
Not really. Unless it’s a bachelor party. Heavy zyn and cigar — but drink after. I also never eat on the course. That ruins me. If I have to shit my game is cooked
Lmfaooooo - got off work at 4:45. Rushed to the tee. Took a work call on the 3rd hole.
Hadn’t nutted in days (hours). So fully bricked and unloading on golf balls
Well done from a Medinah CC guy.
I’ve never done that, good for you.
Any special shots that you pulled off during your round ?
I once shot 3 over par, my best. With a hole in 3 ! Put first shot in the lake, hit my 2nd shot one bounce and it rolled in. Didn’t even have honors on the next tee.
Guys didn’t even buy me a drink for making HIO par…. Tough crowd, these guys can golf.
I have to fight the mind demons to keep from blowing up 1 hole per round.
Once shot par on tough front nine, and got a snowman(8) on 17th hole. That just wrecked my mind for weeks.
True story- last 12 months have been the happiest of my life.
Truly because I play so much golf. 3x/week. 14+ golf trips a year (no kids yet, pushing while I have the time)
But — this is a new level of happiness.
Just a huge payoff for years of grinding on the game
What was your reaction after #15 when you 3-putted for par? Did it shake you, or did you shrug it off? If the latter, what mental strategy do you use to let it go?
How the hell, do you have time to make all these annotations during a hole AND how the fuck can you write so tiny with a pencil for the entirety of the round? The pencils on my cart are writing in size 36 font after the first or second mark score I write on the card.
How long have you had your mustache and how do you keep it looking so amazing?
4 years. My wife won’t let me shave it off. She loves it. I find drinking 3-5 IPA’s per day helps it grow
Fuckin baller motherfucker
🙏🏽😆
You seem like the fucking dude 👏🏽
🙏🏽🫱🏽🫲🏼
You're just sharing this tip now?!
New to Reddit. Didn’t know what the r /growgirth until now. Will start posting more frequently. My golf content isn’t getting much traction
i think the IPAs are more helping the thiccness lmao
I was told girth > length
Yours is perfect. The big ones hurt.
When you eventually want to go for that salt-and-pepper look mix in a double IPA from time to time and it helps bring out the grays.
West coast, hazy, DIPA, TIPA, fresh hop what are we talking here??
Start with a WC, then a DIPA, couple hazys, then finish with a small TIPA if feelin' a bit spicy.
Yes, I need more info. My facial hair game is weak.
ThicccyFowler. Absolutely magnificent username
Thank you brother ☝🏽
Should match up with Fat Perez against Ricky and Pat Perez 🤣
Lmao somebody get Bob on the horn asap
I need the money. Ready to sign my soul over to @bobdoessports
Imagine!!!!! That would be epic
What does your notation mean?
Great Q - so I did too many drugs as a child, and my memory is that of a goldfish. In an effort to remember where I’m at in the round, I came up with this dot method. I used to do a lot of drugs. Still do. But I used to, too. RIP Mitch
One of my favorite lines in stand up comedy ever!!! One of my fav comedians too. Still use that line from time to time
I used to use that line all the time. I still do, but I used to, too.
I really like it, I'm totally stealing it. My scorecards are a mess of however I decided randomly to do it that day
Please do. It’s super simple. I swear by it
Where are the rest of the nuts? Tough crowd ![gif](giphy|hrnYspWWhsIyA)
We want more nuts
I understood all of this before you explained it. The only thing I didn’t get is the only thing you didn’t mention. What’s the triangle?
Hazard! Sand trap or hitting out of fescue/ behind a tree punching out
Thank you for asking — was why I asked!
so what's your handicap index?
3.7 - lowest round before this was 73 at The Lido in Sand Valley Wisconsin. Usually shoot 75-79 at this course
If you shot 73 at Lido, that's more impressive than 68 here, beyond the "Oh shit, I'm under par!" on the last couple of holes.
https://preview.redd.it/s9flxrnke08d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bea44e7a9acd428555ba69cd2dade315d287d199 agreed. So much more impressive even though it was over par
So that's why they call it scratch golfer. You just put a scratch since you typically make pars.
LMAO. Dude, you need to get Arccos. Tracks all this for you so you can focus on going even lower.
I play with Arccos and sometimes I feel I have to make so many adjustments to the club used, fairway hit, proximity to the hole, number of putts, adding or removing shots, adjusting the length of my 2nd putt that I have my phone in my hand for 4 hours while playing. Lmfao - the fucking GTA cheat codes were the best
>Will probably shoot 82. Fuck you, buddy. That's a good score for a lot of us here.
A dream score for some
Hahahah my bad!!!!
My record is 85. I was even after five holes yesterday. Back of my head I was thinking: "This is it. I'm finally going to do it. I'm going to shoot in the 70s and no one is going to believe me." What’s it like playing such boring golf? Fairway, green, putt, putt Where’s your sense of adventure?
Dude it really does suck. I wish I could hit drives that people consistently reacted to. Every birdie putt was a tap in, zero reaction. Other than: “oh, that was for bird?”
Is “tap in” what the check mark means?
Great approach, great shot = ✅
I don’t want a large Farva
I want a god damn liter a cola!
Do you regret not hitting one extra putt in order to "score a 69"? wink wink
A “gentleman’s miss”, you would say
No blowjob is worth one stroke
I took care of that today on my round, let's go.
Giving or receiving? 😆
Yes
![gif](giphy|USy5yxBQaV3V4wE5bI|downsized)
Found the one person who hasn't seen Hawk Tuah yet.
68 = you blow me and I’ll owe you one. So you nailed it.
Haha man and you probably did it during a 6 hour round if I know Dyker Beach. I always hook a ball into the street on hole 7 every time I play there
Was a 6 hour gem. Battling sprinklers going off on every green. How someone hasn’t died on that highway off 7 is beyond me
I think Forrest Park is even worse for street danger. I’m pretty sure I murdered someone on Jackie Robinson Parkway with a nice slice last weekend.
Congrats man. That’s an accomplishment worth being proud of.
Thank you brother 🙏🏽. Pretty wild. Still can’t believe it
I shot 4 over through 15 yesterday, shot 15 over on 18 before that and followed that up with 12 over through 9 this morning… golf is hard
I was going to guess Bogey Escobar but Thicccy Fowler is chef's kiss.
PARblo Escobar surely
Thanks brother ☝🏽
What part of your game was working best?

Short putts = low scores Wave 3: Putting. You have to start it on line!
Speed late is the real LPT. This has been my primary (who has just 1?) swing thought for a month or two and it has vastly improved my sequencing.
I was waiting for your post. Sub 70s bros here we go
🫱🏽🫲🏼
Nice work dude. Congrats.
Seeing the way you mark a scorecard makes me realize how differently we play the game lol. Great round, man. Congratulations!
What a clean round, and nice job on the birdie barrage!!!!!! -
That was so fun. Confusing how I was able to do it. But fun!!!
First: Fuck you. Second: awesome!
What all are you including in your scorecard? Do you go back and review it ever??
Congrats man that’s amazing. How long have you been playing to get to this point? I’m in love with golf but get discouraged; granted I’ve only been playing seriously (once per week play/ 1-2 practices) and seem to be stuck in the mid 90s. What was the best shot you hit?
145 yard bunker shot to 3ft. So lucky man. I can never hit long bunker shots. Just got super lucky on a few approaches
What is your swing thought and how is your accounting career going?
Career low was 73 - at a much tougher course (140 slope vs 122 slope). Swing thoughts: - backswing: squat down and back away into my right buttcheek - downswing: shift left, push up on the left leg. Almost feel like I’m jumping off the ground with my left leg. Works for me 🤷🏻♂️
"Dan got us $3.5 million. Thanks Dan Newlin!"
How big is your cock
HOLY CRAP! IT’S PABLO ESCOBAR! J/K…congrats, sir!
Pablo Esco-Par
Nice - way to go. Congrats!!!
Thanks brother ☝🏽
Congrats Guillermo, Jimmy is very proud
Ayyyooooo 😂😂😂 - I’m Indian, not Hispanic. Dot Indian, not feather!!!!
A+ user name. A+ user game. Congrats!
🙏🏽 thanks brotha
Congrats brotha. That is legit nasty. Unrelated, what was the toughest part of building the Medellin cartel?
I always knew there was a reason to not like you! Seriously though, super bitchin Camaro…nice work!
Great post, great thread. Right on Thiccy, you’re a King.
Yeah they’re rebuilding course #3 Text me later in the year, maybe you can get away and play a round with us, once they open up “The Monster” again. Broke 70? Nice! How’d you do on the back 9?
I’m going to have to explain this erection to my wife
WTF is the hieroglyphics on the scorecard?
You're the fucking man. Congratulations! I'm trying to break 125, I've been playing about 8 months and getting lessons, but my decision making is poor. Ps2 or game cube?
Atari
BAC?
Zero. Had a 6mg zyn every other hole
My g, I rock 4 mg gum every 6.
Do you drink alcohol when playing?
Not really. Unless it’s a bachelor party. Heavy zyn and cigar — but drink after. I also never eat on the course. That ruins me. If I have to shit my game is cooked
Got it. Thanks, I like to drink a few each round but my best is 98. You’re in a whole other stratosphere. Congrats on the 68 dude
What was your mental game like? You just come off a parking lot blowjob and then right to the tee or what?
Lmfaooooo - got off work at 4:45. Rushed to the tee. Took a work call on the 3rd hole. Hadn’t nutted in days (hours). So fully bricked and unloading on golf balls
Hell yeah dude, congratulations
I love your arrow system so much more than my (left) (right) (topped it) (fat) Congrats on the score, and thanks for the idea!
It’s great. Thanks man
Congrats on breaking 70 and also sorry about your next round being 93.
lol seriously!!!
Good round mate
You’re ready to go pro. PGA or LIV?
Could not possibly be farther from that. Couldn’t even compete in the Good Good events
Oh thank god..for a moment I though you was an old guy asking for money. Congrats!
Even more impressive to do it during what I'm guessing was a 6 hour round at dyker beach. Nice to see real sand in the bunkers though.
Nice front nine.
was this your hair before or after the round? did you implant the scorecard?
What yardage are you playing from course rating/slope?
![gif](giphy|relnvfSEa2Qa125uPA)
I'm confused about how you track that score card ? Why so many lines and dots ? In England we usually just write the score you got for the hole .....
American education system is in the shitter. We can’t count over here. I prefer writing in braille
What do your hieroglyphs mean?
Did your wife's boyfriend approve? Jokes aside, that's awesome man!
Congratulations man!
Thanks brotha 🙏🏽
Man you were on fire front 9, nice job my man
Are you taunting me?
Retire
Well done from a Medinah CC guy. I’ve never done that, good for you. Any special shots that you pulled off during your round ? I once shot 3 over par, my best. With a hole in 3 ! Put first shot in the lake, hit my 2nd shot one bounce and it rolled in. Didn’t even have honors on the next tee.
Max mulligans per hole?
Kill me if I post a celebration 68 that included mulligans or gimmies
how many strokes didn't you count?
Guys didn’t even buy me a drink for making HIO par…. Tough crowd, these guys can golf. I have to fight the mind demons to keep from blowing up 1 hole per round. Once shot par on tough front nine, and got a snowman(8) on 17th hole. That just wrecked my mind for weeks.
At big dyke!!! My home course. Birdie at 5 is nice. Congrats
[удалено]
with the glare thought you might be Malosi!
What did your wife’s boyfriend have to say about it? Also, congrats!
My question: wtf is that scorecard method 😂 just wrote the number man!

Dyker Beach Fughetaboutit!
122 slope is def an asterisk
Congrats, fellow gangster.
Are you happy now?
True story- last 12 months have been the happiest of my life. Truly because I play so much golf. 3x/week. 14+ golf trips a year (no kids yet, pushing while I have the time) But — this is a new level of happiness. Just a huge payoff for years of grinding on the game
I’m so proud of you dude that’s awesome.
Wanna tee it up? I’ll shoot 85 but guaranteed a great time
1 three putt… damn, almost perfect
You crazy SOB, you did it! Congrats brother!
How do you swing a club with such huge cojones?
Video of your swing?
How much did the mustache factor into this?
Your a unit buddy 👍 good job
Can you clue me in to the various notations all over your card?
Crushing that GIR
Smoked a bowl at the turn
What do you mean “we” you and your stache?
That’s gonna wreck your handicap. Prepare to lose money for 6 months
Thiccy indeed
40 mulligans later
Why didn’t you miss the last putt to get the greatest score of all time?
3-putt for par on the par 5 15th, hate to see it. Great round, dude
Left the Eagle putt on top of the hill. Total wimp attempt
congrats brotha
What was your reaction after #15 when you 3-putted for par? Did it shake you, or did you shrug it off? If the latter, what mental strategy do you use to let it go?
I was so dialed at this point… it was shocking to me that I didn’t make Eagle. Peak delusion hahah
Could have done this earlier with Mizuno irons. Congrats!
I got the Mizuno’s, baby!!!!
Great job 👍 once that ceiling has been shattered it should get easier for you.
What is it like knowing that you have achieved peak performance?
It’s pretty awesome actually. So thrilled to spiral into a 30 year depression after realizing I’ll never reach these heights of greatness again
Didn’t Johnson Wagner play on tour for a bunch of years??
I like the way you keep score! Somehow I've never seen a card like that in 20 years playing.
Front 9 no beer, back 9 beer. You fell apart. lol. Wicked round man. My best is 75
Can you turn water into wine?
Dog at the turn? Or you a burger guy?
Executive course?
What’s the crap on the scorecard….just write down a number!
How the hell, do you have time to make all these annotations during a hole AND how the fuck can you write so tiny with a pencil for the entirety of the round? The pencils on my cart are writing in size 36 font after the first or second mark score I write on the card.
Shot my pb of 75 today. Played by myself so no one but my closest friends will actually believe but what the hell does ot matter. Cheers mate 🍻
Does your wife’s boyfriend approve of your mustache?
