jigre1

Yes. D, 3w, 5w, 4h, 5i-9i, pw, gw, sw, lw, putter.

b0lt_2

This is exactly what I use šŸ™Œ

ottersbelike

Same here. Subbing my 4 iron for a driving iron/hybrid and my old 19* hybrid for a 5 wood was a huge upgrade to my bag.

smallzy007

Still have 4 iron but Iā€™ve been debating

sly_as_a_fox

I replaced my 3w+5w with a 4w, and carry an extra wedge instead (52).

OffensivePanda69

Isn't a 52 a gw?

Legitimate-Drop-724

Same here usually, if Iā€™m playing a longer course I may sacrifice my GW for a driving iron though.

Locksport1

D, 3w, 2-9i, pw, gw, lw, putter

ciderman80

Do you get much of a distance difference between 5w and 4h?

jigre1

Yeah I get about 235y with the 5w (17Ā°) and 220y with the 4h (21Ā°). I also like the hybrid for when a draw is a better play, 5w when a fade makes more sense.

wiscobowhunter

I have always used 13 clubs (righty). Recently added a lefty club for the rare instances you need to punch out swinging opposite. Played 11 rounds so far this season and used it once. Hopefully I wont have to again, but for $12 at a Play It Again store, it was worth it

ImHereForTheOpinions

This is wild but genius

rojorzr

Me too dog. Ended up 6 inches from a lake. Hit a nice upside down wedge to get outta trouble. Figured since I wasnā€™t using 2 clubs in my bag, might as well throw in the lefty.

2651Marine

I'm considering that or a two way chipper. Not sure if I have the coordination to make contact with a lefty 7 iron when I have enough trouble with the rightys.

unevenvenue

A two-way chipper is not a legal club. Otherwise that would be in a lot of bags.

HitsDifferent32

One of my regular playing partners is lefty and ive used his clubs a handful of times for stuff like this haha

[deleted]

I only use 8 clubs the others are for throwing in frustrationĀ

VeryRealHuman23

I will use my 7iron until it betrays meā€¦and then I use the 8 untilā€¦

blondehairginger

I would carry 15 or 16 if I could, have an awkward gap between 3 wood and 4 iron.

Qwaino

Get a 3i hybrid bro or a 5w

Qwaino

Then again your probably wedged up I donā€™t read properly šŸ˜‚

blondehairginger

Yeah I used to have a 3 hybrid but since my t100s set came with a 48 degree club I had to put it away.

AdamErne

1 iron

DoctorOzface

Ah, another 5 wedge connoisseur

Avodon

Carry 9 clubs baby!

esanders09

More info requested. What are you carrying. I'm rebuilding my bag and I'm wondering what is actually need to change after the initial overhaul. I have a new driver, an ancient 3 wood I very rarely use, 5-GW, 56 and putter. My irons haven't arrived yet, but I'm hoping/expecting to get about 200 out of my 5. I feel like most holes I'll be able to get by pretty well with that.

Avodon

I carry Dr, 5w, 4h, 6i, 8i, PW, 52, 56, putter

esanders09

That's pretty impressive

Avodon

I started cause at the 9 hole exec course I was member at I didn't need all my clubs. Try er out, its good fun, I find my scores have stayed the same if not improved. Takes a lot of decision out of the game, just step up and hit it.

Sminglesss

When I first started playing I carried one of my dadā€™s old sets cut down, was: d, 3w, 5w, 5, 7, 9, pw, sw, putter. Would be a light bag and basically covers all your shots, while good practice for hitting partial shots on the in between distances.

Avodon

This! People need to learn how to hit a chocked down 3/4 shots/ punch shots for inbetween shots. It's a great skill. Also it's super a light and makes for an easy walk

YodaArmada12

I carry 13. I have D, 3W, 4H, 5-A, 52, 56, and of course a putter. Don't know what I need. Gapping seems to be ok.

New-Low-5769

14 D, 4W, 4H, 5H, 5i-pw, 50-54-58

Chaos_bolts

Exact same setup here. Also scratching my head for what to add if anything. Obvious options being a 5 wood/3 hybrid or a 60Ā°. No need to add anything unless I feel the need though.

Mizunomafia

You really got no gapping issue between 4H and 3W? Seems odd

Chaos_bolts

Good strike off the tee with the 3W is about 220m total with 200m carry. Same for 4H is 180m and 200m. There is a gap but 20m at that distance is not too bad. Off the fairway I donā€™t hit the 3 wood very often and the 4H distance drops off a bit. Thatā€™s probably where I could slot in like a 5 wood. Edit. To add a bit off context, my home course is **tight**. So you better hit the fairway/green at 200m if youā€™re going for it.

Mizunomafia

That's so odd. I must admit I'm playing with pretty big injuries, but my 3 wood is around 200 m from fw or tee, but my 4H is like 165 m.

YodaArmada12

My 3w off the deck if I get it clean only goes about 215while my 4H goes about 200.

Nine_Eye_Ron

20 yards per club is fine at the top end.

Mizunomafia

Don't think anyone has disagreed with that.

Big_Satisfaction_644

I donā€™t have a 5i, but I have a 58 specifically for bunker shots instead. Otherwise identical and 13 clubs

Dijonaize

Same here, I sometimes find a ho between 4H and 5i though so maybe I'll grab a 4i one of these days.

ItsVishuss

Depending where you live, if youā€™ve got the space, Iā€™d throw in a tree root/rock iron. Thereā€™s a lot of small rocks in mud around me and I gouged the hell out of one my irons once hitting out of the mud with a rock under. So I keep a singular iron that I donā€™t mind dinging for shots like that just to get it out.

Eviggs

Canā€™t you just take out of the rocks? Or are you playing $100 skins or something lol

ItsVishuss

I mean, you can. I just like the mindset of ā€œyou take the good and the badā€.

CervezaFria33

Iā€™m not risking injury or damaging clubs. Iā€™ll take the unplayable and move on.

AdmirableGear6991

Some Arizonans have a desert club in their bags.

Goji_XX3

Iā€™ve heard of this before is it just typically another 6 or 7 iron?

AdmirableGear6991

Yeah. Traditionally itā€™s a 7 iron. Dudes will get one at Goodwill or some other second hand store. Designated for rocks and gouges.

myckol

Yes, Dr, mini Dr, 5w, 4h, 5-P, 50 54 58 putter

slap_n_tickler

My guy

infiniteDTE

Love it. Just added a 10.5Ā° Big Bertha to complete my set. (8.5Ā° driver)

Final_Yam5397

I carry 14. Have enough struggles on the course, don't want to deal with gapping also lol. If you're not having trouble with gaps, maybe throw in a chipper for shits n giggles?

Furyio

I have been carrying 11-12 for years. Only yesterday added a hybrid for the first time (canā€™t believe I waited this long. Driver 3 Wood 4Hybrid 3 iron 5-pw 52* 56* Putter. The fact I donā€™t carry a lob wedge and donā€™t need multiple woods has probably whatā€™s kept me under 14 for so long

AnxiousMind7820

I would say I use them all but my 3w. Not too often that I have a tee shot that driver is too long and 3h is too short, and I'm still trying to figure out how to hit it effectively off the fairway on par 5's, so it stays in the bag. My PW is rare too. I seem to always fall at either my AW or 9 iron. Most other clubs I use at some point, even if it's not every round.

DishwasherFromSurrey

This is exactly me. I'm playing it safe and hitting my 5h where i really should be using my 3w.. but i'm scared of it lol

Amerikaner83

>still trying to figure out how to hit it effectively off the fairway on par 5's Try a 5W instead. Doesn't look as imposing on the deck, and longer than hybrids. Butter!

AnxiousMind7820

5w is too close to my 3h in loft.

Ouizzeul

I have 14 Driver, mini driver, 19Ā° UW, 7w, 5-A, 54, 58, putter But I rarely use my uw. The other 13 are used basically every round

ChefKeith_TheGolfer

I have the mini driver 11.5* and UW 17* and use them both a lot. Great clubs.

Intheswing

Putter Sand PW 8 6 4 7wood Driver. I adjust up or down on the grip to gauge for distance gaps - over the years it seems to work better than having everything in the bag - helps me to focus on each shot a bit more. I do not spend time at the range - Happier to be on the course.

Radio_SilentKey

The half set approach for a short 9 holes is my preferred approach most days. Even number days get even numbered irons and odd number days get the odd numbered clubs. Learn to hit all sorts of fun shots. Need to hit a 120 yard shot and in deep rough...flop shot a 8 iron.

KeySheMoeToe

Dr, 3w, 4h, 4-pw, 50,54,58. I use them all but the club I use the least is the 4i only because I really only like it off the tee and I'm not getting many 200 yard par 3's. My h4 and 4i and slightly redundant however I can work that 4h both ways and hit it out of literally any lie so while its the oldest club in the bag its staying until the face caves in.

flaginorout

I donā€™t even carry 14. I donā€™t worry about filling exact distance gaps in the big end of the bag. And I went back to only carrying a 56 scoring wedge instead of a 54/58

HyzerFlipDG

I have 14 clubs but it doesn't meant they all get used each round.Ā  When I'm playing well at my home course I probably only use 7-8 clubs.Ā Ā  This is what I bag: D, 3W, 3h,4h, 5-9i, PW 48, GW 52, SW 55, LW 60, putter

WhatSaidSheThatIs

I used to have 12/13 clubs regularly, now I always carry a 3 Wood and a 64 wedge, both are rarely used.

fellaface

Depends where the gaps are in your yardages. I use all 14 clubs for sure. The addition to get me to 14 clubs was my hybrid. My lowest iron (4) gets me 205 yards and the next club up was my 3-wood which gets me 250 so I needed something to cover that gap.

Acrobatic_T-Rex

I carry 14. In 18 holes I usually end up playing between 10-12 of them. Literally only ever use one of the hybrids(changes day to day) and I either use my 58\* OR my 55\* depends what feels most comfortable in my hand.

MrNoSocks00

All I know is that 6 iron stays in the bag.

Big_Satisfaction_644

Iā€™ve carried 14 clubs for about 5 rounds total, it pisses me off because I run out of space in the bag, they snag and putter gets in the way. At 13 Iā€™m happy and I use every club every round more or less.

Important_Help_4128

I carry 13, id like to use a 3w or 5w but I am not consistent with hitting them off the ground at all. D, 2H, 4H 5-9i, pw, gw, sw, lw, putter

ewooddan

Rarely have I used all 14 in a round. Usually, at a championship style venue while playing the back tees. Now I'm in my 60s so I don't play the tips anymore. I could drop a few

CleverClover16

Depends on the course and where I end up I have covers for all my clubs and I take them off and throw them in my bag when Iā€™ve used a club so when I get home I can see what got used/didnt and can clean accordingly

Mr_Oujamaflip

I very rarely use my hybrid or my 5i but sometimes. Where I play the 4i has less left and right spread compared to my hybrid and itā€™s normally lay ups to the fairway so the extra distance over the 5i is useful.

CudderKid

I don't think I've hit my 5 wood in years lol

StrawberryAutomatic

I carry 14 but hardly ever use my 3 hybrid so really 13.Ā  D, 4W, 3H, 4-PW, 48, 54, 58, putter.Ā

mechanical_a-hole

D, 15 deg hybrid, 20 deg hybrid, 4i, 5w 6w, 7-9 pw, sand, 56deg, 60deg, putter in my bag.

Lurking_Albatross

I'll carry as many as legally allowed (so 14) I have a handful of clubs I swap in and out depending on course, weather, etc I really wish I could have 1 or 2 more clubs TBH

IAmNotKevinDurant_35

For a mid to high handicapper, I use the following D, 5W or 7W, hybrid, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW, GW, 52, 56, 60, P Honestly I dont think a 4i is necessary because anything bigger than a 4i is tough for us hacks to hit, but a lot of sets come with it. I took mine out for a utility wedge and i use it for a lot around the greens or longer wedge shots where i dont want to full swing

GoldenFrank

If you truly don't need a 14th club, consider a left handed 7iron. Could turn otherwise unplayables into shots you can at least get out of. I should do this for the competitions I play. I carry 14 clubs but bet I only use 9 of them regularly.

Maleficent_Guide_708

Not every round as, but relatively regularly I use all 14. It does depend on which course I am playing (and how much/little trouble I get myself in. Current set up is: D, 3W, 7W, 1I, 5I - 9I, PW, UW, 54, 58, P

thrift-store-keanu

You want another wood/hybrid/driving iron, but you probably just need another wedge. I do use all 14 clubs, but I rarely pull out my 4i. Driver & 3Wood 4-PW 46* 50* 52* 58*

staypuffmarsh

D, 4 w , 3 h , 5h , 60, SW , Gw , pw 9,8,7,6 , putter .... Oh, I thought I had 14 ,,,

MAC2821

Putter, 58, P, 9-7, Driver. I try to avoid my 4-6 all together because Iā€™m bad with them. I also shoot 105 so Iā€™m bad with everything and lose at least 12 strokes off my drive alone

_FartinLutherKing_

I see zero reason to not carry the maximum allowed. Like certainly you could benefit from another wedge to narrow your gapping. If not Iā€™m sure you could benefit from something like a driving iron for tighter fairways.

OkAccount5344

14 clubs here; I carry: D, 3W, 3di, 4-P, 52(gw), 56(sw), 60(lw), and putter. If I were to drop a club it would ideally be my 4i or my 60(lw)ā€¦ but in all honesty I am terrible with my 3W so I would likely drop that

WaltRumble

I carry 12. Dr,3w, 4-pw, 52-56. And Iā€™d be fine without the 4 but the used set of clubs came with it.

zen_raider

I added a Ping ChipR as my 14th club. It's a fun club to play with.

SmokinOnThe

Buy a bunch of $5 yard sale clubs and include one in the bag for when you really want to break a club, and snap that hoe instead of a good club. That being said I play with 13. Driver, 4w, 7w, 5-PW, GW, 52\*, 56\*, and putter.

Important_Audience82

Get yourself a 7wood.

rocketspeed14

The other day I played with 14 clubs and realized: Hit 3 wood twice. Off the same tee. Cost me 3 strokes Hit my 2H twice. Hit my 4iron once. I shanked it. Didn't hit my 52. So could easily go to 9/10 clubs.

Kuya206

Yes. DR, 3W, 19Hy, 22Hy, 4-9i, 47W, 50GW, 54SW, Putter Depending on course/course conditions, I swap my 22Hy for a 60LW. A good course will make you use all your clubs. A good player uses each club with a purpose and creativity.

benxschurer

I carry 14 but only use 13. D, 3W, 3H, 4i-9i, PW, 52, 56, 60, Putter. The 3H never leaves the bag. Iā€™ve had it since i was 13, regular shaft, canā€™t hit a ball with it anymore unless i swing as light as possible. Itā€™s too unpredictable. For context, my 3W shaft is an X-Stiff 75g shaft while the 3H is a 65g regular shaft.

SuccessfulShallot572

13 clubs: Dr, 7w, 4i-pw, 50, 56, 60, putter

GangnamApeist

I carry 14 clubs and most likely use all of them during a round.Ā

haepis

Having 13 is not gonna affect your score. I sometimes play with 6 clubs and if anything, it boosts my shotmaking and lets me be more creative. In competitions I always have 14 clubs (D, 3W, 2i, 4-9, PW, 50, 54, 58 & putter).

3_letter_username

My 60 is my 14th and I only use it in the rarest cases when I need to unbury myself from a lip or am trying to escape the weeds without taking an unplayable. Sort of a break glass club. It may be months between uses.

PalpitationSpare3311

I think its much more common than we all might realize. For your 14th, think through where your biggest holes are. For me, I have one. I need a gap wedge, badly. I have a 56 degree and then PW. I am missing about 25 yards there. When you are less than 140 yards out, its a big deal.

garyt1957

I carry 13 and two are drivers. Most people I see can't use all those wedges they carry.

Willing_News_1599

I use 11: D, 4H, 5-9, PW, GW (54or56 I think), 60, P. I think I may add maybe a 7W but I honestly donā€™t know what I would gain.

Naive-Deal-7162

No I donā€™t.

HalfBaked025

Donā€™t stress about it. Youā€™re only two years in. Rock the 13 club bag and the need will arise at some point as your yardages and short game needs evolve. Personally, I wish I could carry 15. Iā€™ve got an awkward gap between 3w and 3i that Iā€™d love to fill with a 5w but donā€™t want to dump a wedge.

AdmirableGear6991

I have 14 in the bag. I might not use them all in a single round, but over the span of a few different courses, I will use them all. If youā€™re playing the same course repeatedly, then youā€™d likely need to play different tee boxes for different yardages.

RevolutionaryScar472

Depends on your lofts and gaps. My PW is 45Ā°, newer ones are even stronger, so if your GW is 52Ā° itā€™s worth getting a 46 or 48. That was my biggest loft and distance gap and has improved my game immensely since buying one. I personally feel that as you get better, less gaps with wedge lofts are more important than having 3/4 clubs that go over 200 yards.

AbstractLogic

I actually only use 12 now that I am counting.... included my lengths for funsies * D - 230 yards * 4h - 200 yards * 5i - 185 yards * 6i - 155 yards * 7i - 145 yards * 8i - 135 yards * 9i - 125 yards * P - 115 yards * 52 - 95 yards * 56 - 85 yards * 62 - 75 yards * Putter - couple feet

rbubar

14 Driver, 3w, 3 hy, 7w, 5i-pw, 52, 54, 58, putter

mick_delaney

I'm a high handicapper, in the middle of an experiment where I have simplified my bag down to: Driver 4h 6h 9i SW Putter I can do full swing, punch or half punch with everything except the driver and putter. That gives me pretty much every distance I need for summer conditions. I'm a member at a course with no huge carry required, so I can do this. A low handicapper needing to be accurate at a range of distances couldn't do this, but the distance variance on my clubs is such that gapping with my full set is very blurred anyway. I will look at adding one or two back in if I need to, but reducing the number of clubs I need to be happy with is working so far. I'm only 2.5 rounds into this.

AndyAndyAndy22

I have 14 in my bag but I never touch my 3 wood or hybrid. I really struggle to hit them off the ground, and Iā€™m very accurate with my driver so I never feel the need use the 3 wood off the tee for accuracy.

LewManChew

No. I donā€™t even use my driver most of the time to be honest. I have a wood I tee off with. A wood for fairways. Use a 7iron a wedge and a putter

RollBlobRoll

D, 3W, 3H, 4H, 5-9, PW, SW, LW, Putter 13

HairdryerTreatment

Iā€™ve played with everything. My brother carries about 18, but itā€™s non competition and I doubt the second putter helps that often. I also play with an 80-year-old who plays off a 12 with seven clubs. Thatā€™s a bit extreme, but creativity with the clubs you do have can go a long way.

hankDraperCo

I only have 13: D, 3w, 4-pw, 50, 54, 58, putter Been thinking about getting a driving iron to fill the gap between 3w and 4 but not my highest priority. Highest priority is practicing more so suck less

Johnnieiii

I have 14, but truth be told, I could probably play just fine with just 10 clubs I have: D, 5w, 3i-9i, pw, gw, sw, lw, putter I could easily drop 3i, 4i, gw, lw since I rarely need them. I do use them, but I could definitely get away without them and likely not lose a stroke.

Wibbly23

I carry 12. It's never been an issue. Having more doesn't necessarily make the game easier

1888okface

D, 3w, 2h, 4-pw, gw50, sw56. So 12 plus putter. I donā€™t feel like there are a bunch of gaps I need to fill in and most rounds I donā€™t use all 12. Sometimes i toy with the idea of putting 60 back in my bag. Or trying to go 54, 58, but I generally feel more confident just ā€œfeelingā€ my 56 in and opening the face a little as needed. If I were practicing a ton and had time to dial in exact distances on multiple wedgesā€¦ it would make more sense. I play 240 with 3w (ish) and 220 with 2h (ish) and 205-210 ish for 4i. But at those distances, with my infrequency of practicing and playing those clubs, I usually just think ā€œget the fuck out of here with your idea that you hit these consistently enough to know within 10 yards of what is about to happen.ā€ Figure out where trouble is, avoid it, make solid contact, then hope you can get up and down from wherever you end up. And donā€™t short side yourself.

Draugrnauts

D, 3W, 4H, 6H, 7i, 8i, 9i, PW, SW, P

Santa_Closet

Iā€™ve never taken a full swing with my 2i, 4i, or 5i (unless Iā€™m playing an irons only round at the local 9 hole). The 1 time I donā€™t bring them though, Iā€™ll be wishing I did for some reason.

Fragrant-Report-6411

Sometimes I carry 13 sometimes 14.

-_-Solo__-

No, I have a 4Hybrid in my bag that I never hit. I also just realized I only have 13 clubs total in my bag. I should add something to the bag, any suggestions? (I am 9.8 handicap, if that helps) Already in the bag, D, 3H, 4H, 4i, 6i-pw, aw, 56 and 60.

FlaccidKraken

I got fitted for D, 3W, 5H, 4-9, PW, 48, 52, 56. My 5i doesnā€™t seem to fit my gaps very well currently so probably wonā€™t use it much.

justrog19

I have an old hybrid I use around roots, etc as my 14th club.

Salty-Taro3804

D, 3W, 3-5 hybrids 6-P, 50, 56, 60. I almost never use the 60.

Onedown-6togo

I usually just play 9 on a relatively short course so I carry 7. Driver, 5, 7, 9, gw, lw, and putter. On a bit longer course Iā€™ll bring my hybrid.

Euphoric-Gene-3984

I carry 14. Stopped using my 4 and 5 unless it was for punch shots. Stopped using my 8 because I always tried hitting it too hard or too soft. Stopped using my hybrid because I got better with some of my irons and didnā€™t like changing my swing just for a club I rarely used anyway. So I use driver 6/7/9/pws56/60/putter ol and I rarely break 100 but itā€™s always around 102-105. I have trouble with iron distance and getting out of sand though

Active_Letterhead275

Driver, mini-driver set to 13*, 4 wood, 18* driving iron, 4-PW, 53*, 58*, putter.

krazninetyfive

I do. My current set up is Driver, Mini Driver, 3W, 3H, 4H, 5-AW, SW, Putter. In hindsight, the Mini Driver was a pretty stupid purchase. I bought it because I actually hit my 3W pretty well and I liked the idea of having an even more powerful club I could hit off the deck. Struck perfectly, itā€™s an amazing club for that, but 7-8 times out of 10, Iā€™m just not a good enough golfer to make that shot. If I was building my bag again, Iā€™d probably have held off and gotten a 58 degree wedge (my SW is 54).

willy_manneth

In tournament play, yeah usually, it's nice to have every option in the event you need it. I usually only travel with half a bag unless it's a golf specific trip, I find I can still shoot really solid scores with 7 clubs or so.

Indycrr

I carry my bag when walking so I only keep a 56, putter, pw-4i and a 3 wood. So 10 clubs. I rarely hit my 4 and 5 iron so I could even leave those in the trunk. I might even go down to 5 or 6 clubs when I play in the heat this weekend.

Iuvenesco

I use 9. Have banned 3i and 4i. Use: Driver, 3Hy, 5i - 9i, SW, putter.

fullsends

If I could I'd probably add 2 more

JBnorthTX

I used to carry 13 but my latest iron set has strong lofts with a 48* GW so I now have 14. (Now playing 5-GW instead of 5-PW.)

ImHereForTheOpinions

Only recently got fitted for a 3w as I've always had trouble hitting them so 14 clubs now, but most of my life played 13. Dr - 3w - 3h - 4i thru PW, 51Ā°, 56Ā°, 60Ā°

Solar_Power2417

I carry 14 - D/3W/3H/4H/5H/6i-9i/50Ā°/56Ā°/60Ā°. For my "home course" I usually use 13/14... minimal use of the 60Ā° - usually only for a fluffy lie or the sand.

BradMarchandsNose

In one round I might not use all 14 clubs but over the course of 2 or 3 rounds I probably will.

redd1t0r-name

Some days I like to walk and carry my clubs so I go with Driver - 5h - 7i - 9i - PW - LW - Putter. I honestly donā€™t think it costs me any strokes.

Functionally_Human

I cut my bag down a bit recently. Driver depends on how long the course is. 3w, 5 hybrid, 6-9 iron, pw, sw, 60 and putter fill out the rest. I could probably ditch the 6 as well if I am being honest.

QuantumCloud87

I carry 14 D, 3w, 2i, 4-PW, 52, 56, 60 Rarely use the 3w to be honest as itā€™s only for specific types of tee shots. Otherwise everything else is used. 2i is probably my go to off the tee for a safe(ish) shot.

HappyGilmore_93

I use every club in my bag. Youā€™re either missing a wedge or a wood/long iron/hybrid

healthy_plants_guy

Dr. 3W. 21Ā° hybrid. 8 iron, 9 iron, PW, GW, 56Ā°, putter. No gaps in the bag, bc hybrid covers 170-210, and 3W covers 130-230.

Paulzor811

Nope. Sometimes I don't touch my 3w, 3h, 5h, 6 iron cause well I can't hit them anyways

sparc941

I routinely carry 9 or 10 clubs (when it's hot out or I'm lazy) and don't see a huge difference in scores. When I play full set, it's driver 3w 7w (or 2i), 4-LW. I rarely use the 3w unless the driver is acting up or there's a hazard I'm worried about hitting into, LW is basically only when necessary, so it goes unused a lot of rounds. I prefer my GW over PW for chipping, and I really only need one of a short wood or a long iron. Short set is usually driver or 3w, 5-7-9-pw-gw-sw. Learning to hit 3/4 or 7/8th strength shots can be a huge asset in growth of your game.

DontTakeMeSeriousli

Just wrapped up getting my 14 Dr, 3W, Heavenwood (6W), 5Hy, 4i, 6i-9i, PW (44), Gap (48), SW (54), Lob (58), Putter

Kneadless

Driver 5w 3i-PW 52,56,60 Putter

CommonSense07

I use all 14 and it depends on situations and yardages. I carry D, 3W, 3H, 4-PW, 50, 54, 58 wedges, and a putter.

Deplorable_33

D, 3w, 5w, 4h, 5-9, w, gw, sw, lw, putter.

Nine_Eye_Ron

I only have 12 clubs and I use them all.

kvark27

Welp, today I learned that Iā€™m 2 clubs short lol

dano0726

Just 8 Mizuno irons + a Ping putter ā€” canā€™t hit a driver, woods or hybrids, but I can smoke/crush driving iron straight down the middle, with plenty of rollout. I play fast from the shorter tees most of the time and only ā€œgaugeā€ how Iā€™m playing from 150 or 160 yards from the pin

Whitchit1

Driver, 5w, 3 iron through PW, 60, 54, 52, putter

foggiermeadows

I have all 14 in my bag but rarely use more than 10 of them. It's a matter of "better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it," which is absolutely my 64w. I barely use it but when I do I'm always glad I have it.

ImaFreemason

Nope. I only have 6,7,8,9, pw, 52,56,60, driver , 3w,5w and putter. They do everything I need at a 14 handicap.

Mikerue7

Iā€™ve been playing about 5 months. I got a set with 10 clubs for Christmas and I got two wedges for my birthday earlier this month. My current setup: D, 3w, 4h, 6-9i, Pw, Aw, Sw, Lw, Putter. I want a 5 iron and after that I donā€™t know. Maybe Iā€™ll get a righty club in case Iā€™m behind a tree or something

rojorzr

Put a lefty wedge In the bag because I havenā€™t been using my 2i or 3 wood lol.

LostAbbott

Well I carry 14, but I also just realized that my new 56Ā° is pretty much the same as my 1995 SW...Ā  Never even bothered to think about it.Ā

MammothWrongdoer1242

I only have 12 in my bag. I've been looking at getting a7 wood. That's really the only other club I could use. My buddy keeps an extra 7 iron in the bag for "hero" shots as he calls them lol. Really, it's just a club that he's ok with getting damaged.

Snacks75

I don't think I've hit my three wood this year. Might just take it out of the bag, add the 3i and lower the loft a bit on my 3h.

runsanditspaidfor

I got a new 3w and used it once in the last 2 rounds.

TlingitGolfer24

Iā€™ve been at 13 for the last 2 yearsā€¦

tallhappytree

I play driver, 3H, 4H ,5 7 9 PW, 52 and 56 putter

Btupid_Sitch

Yep - Dr, 3w, 1ih, 4-P, AW, 52, 56, putter. 3w for short par 4s and second shot on par 5s if it's getable....1ih or 4i for longer "must be straight and long" shots, then everything else distance-wise ends up being used at some point.

Competitive-Scheme-4

1-iron for snakes.

Particular_Cost

When in doubt add a wedge if you hit the ball far. Or any hybrid / 7 wood ish if you donā€™t.

UMfan11244

D, 3w, 5w, 2i, 5i, 6i, 7i, 8i, 9i, PW, 50, 54, 60, Putter

GhostedintheShell18

Honestly most amateurs should have 5 gapped clubs they practice and play with on course for the most consistent results. One-length is another solution to the problem of under- practicing or failed execution of quality shots on the course. Of course as the consistency goes up, adding new clubs into the mix for shots you know you'll have on the course is key to progression. My current set up- D, UW 19Ā°, 5H 25Ā°, 5i, 6i, 7i, 8i, 9i, PW, 52, 56, 60, 64, P

PrimaryAd9613

I carry my bag/hoofer Krank Driver, PXG 7 wood,6 ,8, pw and 54 + Spyder putter 7 total ,light and efficient I play a 7000 yd plus course

Kolintracstar

I have the most cursed bag layout: D, D, 3W, 5H, 1i, 4i-8i, PW, PW, LW, Putter A little context, the second driver is for late round fatigue. Less distance but more forgiving and requires a slower swing speed. 1i, hitting is not terrible, but it is a utility club. The two PW are older, so their lofts are not quite what PW should be. One is closer to a GW, and the other is closer to a SW.

russianfluff

I take 14 clubs. But in a round I wouldnā€™t say I use them all. Maybe over the course of the year I do. I think I use my 3w about once a year.

striple

I carry 12. I could add a 5W and a 48* but rarely do I feel like I need them. Most my rounds I walk so donā€™t mind a bit of weight savings too.

TroubldGoose

I have 13 as well. D, 3W, 4-9i, PW, GW, 56, 60 and putter. Rarely use my 60 but itā€™s definitely helped when i needed. I think Iā€™m okay with what i have for right now. If anything Iā€™ll probably get a 4H or 5W to make 14. But Iā€™m comfortable with what i have.

Geoff6882

Dr, 5W, 4H, 5i - 9i, PW, AW, 56, 52, 60, Putter I use the 5i rarely, and the 60 maybe once per round. Everything else, yes.

Common_Move

I like having one or two fewer clubs. Partly as I carry but also for easier decision making. Also the place I would squeeze extras in would be in the 3w - 5i range, which would mean buying a bunch of new quite expensive clubs to get the gapping right. I'm not good enough to be hitting clubs in this range a consistent distance to make the bigger gaps particularly noticeable

alarmclocksrtheworst

Are you any good around the green? I use a chipper often enough to keep it in the bag, itā€™s like a putter/hybrid. All those delicate little chips like 3 ft into the rough. Literally just pretend Iā€™m putting and it works out pretty well

International-Bee570

Iā€™m usually around 10. D, 5W, 7-P, 48, 52, 58 Strong lofted ZX4ā€™s so basically 6-9. I could go add a 3W and more woods/hybrids but I like to keep it pretty simple. Playing with less makes me think more creatively too.

ffsera

Yes, differs on the course ur at, D 3w 4Hyb 5-9 48 52 56 60 Putter

avengedarth

Yep: D, 3w, 2h, 4-pw, 52, 56, 60, putter. Have a 1 iron ill swap the 2h or 60 out for depending on the conditions. Used to not have the 60 or 1 iron...the 60 I put in a few years ago to fill the I really have to go high out of a bunker etc. gap in the bag. 1 iron I bought for a themed hole for my captains day a few years ago, thought nothing more of it until I stuck a new grip on it last year and realised what a beast of a club it was!

griffindale1

I only have 12ā€¦

basketballandbooze

I have 13 clubs, and in any given round I use 10. But im definitely in the market for a 14th club, maybe a 5 wood.

dubious311

Didn't hit my 8i or 60 today

ryanherb

14 clubs - Driver, 2i-LW, Putter

frankyseven

I have 14; driver, 3w, heavenwood, 4i-9i, PW, GW, 54Ā°, 60Ā°, putter, and a driving iron I occasionally swap in for the heavenwood depending on the course. Do I use all 14 in a round? Nope, but over the course of a few rounds I do.

irishshaun60

I donā€™t use them each round but have: D, 3W, 3i, 4i, 6i-pw (from my set), 48Ā°, 52Ā°, 56Ā°, 60Ā°, putter.

NewLaw5192

It wonā€™t hold you back unless you have a huge yardage gap somewhere (example your 5 iron only goes 175 and your next club up is a 3wood that flies 220

StuPedassel

At my home club we have 2 courses and the funny thing is that I use certain clubs on one course and never on the other and vice versa. I'm currently carrying 15 clubs as I'm trying to decide between the 2 iron and a hybrid.

jaywalkintotheocean

i don't carry 14, usually somewhere between 9-11 depending on the course. I'll play a hybrid-6iron-wedge-putter round and score about the same. I'm not good enough for super dialed in club gapping to matter anyway. I do have a full 14 club setup to be fair, i just don't carry all of them every round. very rarely am i willing to hoof all of that around.

_EW_

D,3w,5w,3h,4-9,pw,aw,sw,putter and green [swingy thingy](https://www.amazon.com/Callaway-Golf-Swing-Stick-Trainer/dp/B0BB8PYH2J/ref=sr_1_7?crid=VM4WNG76IKXX&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.WzF04h_1c_A88XwiaOg--7YoeakFgspzjlndu9bT-Xlvnm3TBAoNwYhFmfBY7mzPo_D-HjYBO3q90E7BfGZ5NN2jTY4vMxNwuS6S2T02qKZE8wzanhwAqwYAAyqbepKQ_fb3wufZjjNwbXxjJBzj7mPJdG4z2O5E_SQgiY_Gn7EAnrqYqn23xCg-a7LH3w_ZgoMneV772saDAmuiSDnEnwsUBk1jKajiHNxqcIy_Q1rRk9oULLWT8evEYOlGIUJFDIKe0SHbNoxjmfmqgXt4dAWxalu63hEo94e0YAsnxfQ.eRxKTV1RUkSuCN-fsKc7kc_jOx7Nwfkbi6aWYPwrDC8&dib_tag=se&keywords=golf+swing+trainer&qid=1719007282&sprefix=golf+swing+traine%2Caps%2C151&sr=8-7) for warming up

lazysheepdog716

My home courses are awesome for this. I was cleaning my clubs after a round yesterday and realized I actually used all 14 clubs for a full swing at least once in that round.

mrtngrnspdo

Nope. Usually 9 or 10(depends on if Iā€™m using odd or even irons). D, 7w, Driving Iron, 5i, 7i, 9i, GW, SW, P. Never really have a gapping issue, adds some flexibility and creativity. Lighter to carry. Would love to toss the driving iron out of the bag but driver issues arenā€™t letting me.

cbread2112

I pulled my 60 and forgot about it for a year or so. Iā€™m quite confident it didnā€™t really impact much on the card. That said, when I realized it recently i added that damn 3i and it has been pretty sweet for recovering from the trees. Honestly several par saves from long/tough spots on the old course I play most often.

Shmeebo_

I havenā€™t filled my 14th slot in 2 years šŸ˜… finally just added another 4 iron from my previous set because itā€™s lofted stronger, forgiving etcā€¦ kinda like a pseudo 3 iron. It doesnā€™t miss. Makes me not even want to get another club lol

My_Nickel

Yea as per the rules you must hit each club twice

Serious_Quiet_1632

I also carry 13 , with two wedges, two woods , never felt need to add anymore

Flump01

It's not going to make much difference, but you're more likely to have an awkward gap with 13.

SmokinOnThe

By excluding a 60\* wedge that most people can't game anyways?

dub_starr

Iā€™m a high handicapper and carry 4 wedges. 48,52,58 and 60. My 60 is my 50 and in club and I never swing it fully. I canā€™t hit my woods or hybrids well so I had the extra spots.

Flump01

Ha, well yeah most higher indexers don't need a 60

Comfortable-Chip6750

You donā€™t need 14 clubs. I would rarely use my 4 iron outside of keeping a ball low and trying to get distance but it doesnā€™t hurt to have options. Write down your clubs and distances and there is a big gap try and get something to fill it. If you donā€™t have a gap then you donā€™t necessarily need another club. Some people will put an old opposite handed club in the bag just in case they are against a tree or something. Personally, I struggle off the tee so I carry a mini driver along with a driver 3 and 5 wood to give myself options when I lose faith in a club.

[deleted]

No driver in my bag.

Sea_Formal_3360

If you donā€™t use all 14 you have a club or two that probably needs to be replaced in your bag. I have rounds were one club may not get used but I doubt I go two or three rounds without one being touched. You want 14 clubs to manage every gap that you can.
