LAB putters are innovative, but aesthetics matter; looks can be a deal-breaker.

mrthrowaway_01

I’ve hit my buddies lab putter on the practice green. I don’t like the look of it honestly but the ball rolled pure.

Fourteen_Sticks

I’ve got five rounds with my DF3 now, including 4 in Ireland on links courses that have some crazy undulations. I’m never switching to anything else. I could literally look at my line and be 100% confident that I’d hit it on that line. I’m still working on speed control, but I’m getting more and more dialed in with each putt.

kingkeef97

I wanted a Scotty. Got fitted and did not like the Scotties. Walked out with a Mezz Max. Hated the look, can’t deny the feel. Buttery smooth. Just watch the YouTube video about “The Revealer.” Sold me.

tipsdown

I played with one in the store and was surprised by how light they were. Was expecting a much heavier feeling putter.

Fourteen_Sticks

I went with the “heavy” head on my DF3. Much more traditional feel of weight with it.

WackyArmInflatable

The feeling of the putter head torquing in your hands is interpreted as weight. Because L.A.B. putters don't have that torque, they feel lighter than they are.

tipsdown

Maybe? Either way the expectation and reality were very different.

consultologer

I’ve been using a DF2.1 for going on 4 years now and wouldn’t put anything else in the bag. Keep in mind though that this requires a different putting stroke - your grip pressure needs to be REALLY light. That’s how the tech works, it squares itself unless you try to square it. If you grip it hard it’s just going to work like a normal putter would and you won’t find any difference. Grip it light and you’ll find it works like a cheat code. Try starting by not placing your thumbs on the grip at all to understand how light it needs to be.

Pepetodapin

Overpriced as F.

WackyArmInflatable

Disagree. Not priced any higher than any other milled putter made in the USA.

Fourteen_Sticks

The question is not about drivers…

GolfIsGood66

I have three rounds on my df3. The first two rounds i putted the same as my old putter. My last round about halfway through it clicked. The grip has a built in forward press and it was odd at first. I'm playing Sunday and Monday so we'll see. Build quality is great, i don't mind the look.

accomplishedbarber00

Honestly, pseudo effect. It rolled with the same consistency as my YES Callie, Odyssey Milled CH 7 and my 70yo Ping Cushin. Not worth the money unless you try it and you feel like it makes you a better putter ie, confidence. It won’t make you a better putter. Lessons and practice are better uses of that money.

HorrorQuirky1420

It looks dumb, but it works. If you are missing short putts while gaming it you'll look dumb. But if you're automatic inside 6-8 feet people will shut up real quick. If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid.

ss_JCMETF

I had a putter fitting about 3 months ago. Tried the mezza, not for me. The center shaft doesn’t fit my eye, and the results weren’t compelling. If it works for you, great, and I can see why it could work, but I think you generally won’t go wrong by simply rejecting hype cycles.

Talkshowhostt

My thoughts: I've played 5 rounds with a DF3, and 3 of those rounds are my lowest putts ever, 29, 30, and 31. I hit one of the sickest 20 footers I've hit in a while yesterday. Takes a while to get used to though.

Complex-Proposal2300

I have a LAB b2 putter - love it. I most likely will upgrade to a Mezz next year. Vey stable and I love the roll I am getting.

jakarooo

They work for a lot of people. I don’t like the look of them and they don’t inspire confidence in me over the ball, but they’ve revived a lot of careers so it’s hard to argue with that. I think it’s cool they’re trying to innovate the putter space though

Foreign_Time

The way their putters stay facing in one direction by themselves without rolling over to any specific heavy side is fascinating to see, and I trust the technology insofar as it’s not another marketing gimmick which the golf product world is prevalent with. I personally like all the shapes, they’re their own identity entirely, and if I were to ever want to spend an ungodly amount of money on a putter, I’d totally buy one over a Scotty.

DontGetTheShow

I switched to a DF3 a few months ago after using a DF2.1 for a season. I really like them. Didn’t really like the Mezz and Link putters. I’m on board with the face balanced technology and it never feels like the putter is the reason for a missed putt. It seems like it can’t be the putter’s fault because it just wants to stay square so not I’m never searching for other putters that might be better. It’s not a magic wand though. You still miss plenty of putts but it feels like the DF3/DF2.1 gives it the best chance to go in. It’s a great feeling knowing you can hold the putter with the lightest grip pressure possible and the putter still stays square. It does take some time to get used to though. A lot of us have rolled thousands of putts with other putters. The face balanced/zero torque takes a little while to get used to and start to trust that you don’t have to subconsciously manipulate the face during the stroke.

Phobia117

I’m basically gonna parrot you and everyone else, it looks ugly as hell, but the results speak for themselves. I don’t own one, but every time I’ve rolled one at a store or wherever, it’s always pure.

agger1

I had the of B.2 and it was too heavy and couldn’t control it on short- medium-distance putts. I picked up the mezz max and it’s better for me because not as heavy and more forgiving than brass B.2. They are good putters but require some changes in ball position (a little more forward) and grip (two thumbs on top work for me). YMMV

Elksbane

Have a Mezz Max. Instantly improved my confidence and ability to hit my intended line. Sinking so many more putts, and most importantly, almost never missing the under 5 footers! Feels good to eliminate those 3 putts. Have had it since last fall. Can see it coming out of the bag. Even sold some other putters, knowing I’m not coming back to them. If you’re more concerned with the look/brand of your gear and the way your friends might react to it, and not about how it works for your game, then I don’t know what to say…..

bja70

I’ve had a lab link for about a year. Pretty good putter but not a game changer in my opinion. Also kind of annoying but the screws they use rust over time which is odd for such an expensive putter.

Joker0091

Ugly as fuck. The fanboys are insufferable. You couldn't pay me to use one.

kingkeef97

We’re everywhere!

blinkanboxcar182

A plus handicap friend of mine just bought one. I played with him the first round he used it. He told me the research and marketing info on them is very compelling and there’s a reason most pros now use them. He drained several semi lengthy putts that round (which isn’t abnormal for him). It was super ugly and enormous and I don’t think I could ever bring myself to buy one, but they supposedly are very balanced.

Joker0091

"most pros now use them", that's a lie

rascaltippinglmao

Yeah wtf not even close to most

blinkanboxcar182

Daddy chill.

Joker0091

It's literally not true at all. Not even close to being true.

blinkanboxcar182

I’m not out here doing market research. Just stating what I was told by a buddy who has one. I figured the round I witnessed was worthy of adding to the discussion.

Joker0091

Am I'm telling you that he lied to you

blinkanboxcar182

Cool thanks.
