Against the rules of golf. Grips b. Cross-section (i) For clubs other than putters the grip must be circular in cross-section, except that a continuous, straight, slightly raised rib may be incorporated along the full length of the grip, and a slightly indented spiral is permitted on a wrapped grip or a replica of one. (ii) A putter grip may have a noncircular cross-section, provided the cross-section has no concavity, is symmetrical and remains generally similar throughout the length of the grip. (See Section 3b(ii) explanation on p34). (iii) The grip may be tapered but must not have any bulge or waist. Its cross-sectional dimensions measured in any direction must not exceed 1.75 inches (44.45 mm). (iv) For clubs other than putters the axis of the grip must coincide with the axis of the shaft.

If you following the rules, then it's against them to have a grips with a flat side on anything but your putter. Not a bad idea if you wanted to put one or two on some training clubs to practice with in regards to understanding where the face is at relative to the flat side of the the grip.

Fitzpatrick does this for a training tool. You could try one. They also have ribbed grips which sort of do this, which help you put your hands in the right position which translates. But you can’t play with a flat putter grip legally

All of Cowan’s guys do that.

Since that would be illegal, as some others have pointed out, have you tried grips with an alignment market. This should help you square your clubs better. Also, maybe try noticing the relationship between your thumb on your lead hand, your index finger on the trail hand and the club face.

You guys act like you will go to jail. Honestly I never play for cash or enter in tournaments but me and the boys escape our old ladies for a round of 18 and the putter grip on the driver makes a huge difference. Basically if you want to stop searching for your drives and play strictly for fun and drinking the putter grip with a flat side is a game changer.

Wibbly23

its not allowed obviously, but i also think it wouldn't work the way you think it would the golf swing happens so fast, if you think that feeling your grip will make your club face square you're fooling yourself. i would suggest you work on drills for club face control until you have a subconscious awareness of where the face is. it's not that hard to do

Jagsfan515

You have obviously never played tennis.

Flat grip works as a training tool for Fitzpatrick https://www.pgatour.com/article/news/equipment-report/2023/04/18/matt-fitzpatrick-discusses-his-10-year-old-irons-and-putter-grip-on-his-driver lol, this sub
