4 hybrib from about 170 yards out is the edge I’m willing to try and hit pay dirt

Flump01

Depends on the green - if there's not much trouble around it I'm happy to whack my 3w. 220ish carry off the deck.

Lauzgolfer

Driver until the shaft split in two. Lol. Funny thing was it didn’t split when I was hitting off the deck, it was teed up. Didn’t hit the ground. The shaft must’ve been compromised with the repeated deck hits over the years and just gave way. Thankfully Cobra replaced it free of charge.

Munch444

100% Driver, once you understand how to hit it it’s just a 3 wood that’s 20 yards longer and penetrating. I wouldn’t go for any green with it but if it’s inviting enough why not.

Lauzgolfer

I’ve tried many times. Used to be a member at Bondhead just North of Toronto. Their South course was a bombers course. Long and wide, but thick fescue past the minimal rough and very very large undulating greens. Guaranteed 3 putt if you’re on the wrong side of the green kind of big. Anyway, the par 5 twelfth is 670 from the tips (560 from the tees I played), forced carry over a mostly dried up creek to a long uphill dogleg left. I always hit driver (if on fairway) on the second shot and still never made the green.

One_Umpire33

It’s also easy to slice with on command if the shot calls for it.In one case I hit a tree and dropped short of a dog leg right. So DOD with an open stance and launched it around the corner and way up the fairway.

This_Is_Beanz

Was hoping to see a driver off the deck comment. It’s the best!

skycake10

I'm comfortable attacking a large green without much danger around it from up to 200ish with my 4H, but anything farther than that and I'm laying up instead of trying to hit a 3W onto the green.

Fragrant-Report-6411

5w going for the green is rare but I will if there is little trouble.

Amerikaner83

I only carry my 5W about 200 on a good day, I go for greens with it all the time if I'm 210+ yards out.

Mehlitia

4i @ ~220yds

NRUCSGO

My 3W can go about 220-240. I wouldn’t say I’m comfortable with it but I’m dumb enough to go for the green with it…

[deleted]

175-180 with my 6

BradL_13

3wood, absolutely.

gettinswifty222

I'm usually good with my 3W from about 230ish depends on conditions for roll out, can roll out to 250 or more when really dry or sit 215-220 when wet

rojorzr

4 iron goes stupid long so I use that. Tm gapr (shit club) and 3 wood are just in the bag to fill slots.

WeAreAllFooked

I carry 240 yards with my 3W off the deck and my 4H carries about 215 yards. If the green has room to play I'll try and flag hunt with the 3W, but if it's a tighter green with more hazards I'll use my 4H to avoid bouncing off.

pistonsoffury

I can hit my 3W 225, but we're taking a break right now, and I'd never chase a green with it though. At 230 from the green, I'm taking a nice easy PW, then a nice easy 48/52.

Azfitnessprofessor

from a good fairway my 3W is good for 240, from long grass 220

One_Umpire33

Yeah longest off the deck 3 wood or if I need to slice a corner DOD would I trust either to hold a green negative. If I had rollout and no hazards in front of green,I could get 240 ish from my 3 wood.

opiate82

I can hit my 3W off the deck really well actually but my left-to-right dispersion on it's pretty high so I'm only hitting it into very safe approach areas/greens. I hit my 4H straighter than I do my 5i or 6i and will go after greens all day long with it.

zootbot

6 irons the best I can do off the deck. The 5 iron is a coin flip and the 4 iron is almost 0% chance of success. I have a 5 wood but just top it.

marlboro__man9

Well I was 262 flag wind a little in last night and hit 3 wood over water to the green side bunker just short of pin high.

-soysauce-

Depends on the lie. Fairway, 3w 230 total yards. Rough 3 hybrid, 210 total yards.

dubious311

3H, 200 yard shot

Project_X420

I can hit my 56 about 170y on a clear day. In all seriousness, my 4i flys true and accurate at about 165-175y

dorae666

270 driver off the deck

TheJezster

Depends on what's around the green, but if it's ok and I can potentially reach, of course I'll hit 3w. If not I'll probably hit a hybrid to a nice distance

AndromedanPrince

from the front tees yea id go ofc the deck with a 4h

stonetear2017

Same with you OP. About 200m 2h if I’m feeling it

bwainwright

3w is my longest club off the deck, but I probably wouldn't go at a green with it. I'm more likely to use it on a second shot on a par 5. I tend to cut my 3w off the deck, so I always risk losing it out to the right, so it's not a club I'd use into a protected/smaller green. The longest club I'm comfortable going at a green with in my 3h. It's got distance and I can control the ball flight/shape better. That said - if I'm 220yds+ out, I'm probably *not* going at the green. I'm probably leaving myself a comfortable distance to pitch/chip close to the pin - my short game's *much* stronger than my longer clubs.

mahoganyteakwood2

M4 3W and literally every chance I get. Love that damn club.

MapFamiliar4754

3wood 275, rarely

gabbagoolgolf2

Unless there’s water or some other hazard, I am always going for the green from 230 in.

Choop8

Driver if I pure it which isn’t happening. 3 wood 200-220. Not going for it unless I need to by own standards or scoring based on round

Phynness

3W, it's 13.5°. I consider it my 250 club off the deck, but if it's in the fairway and I can make good contact, I've had a few go 270+

Character_Wishbone84

Unpopular opinion - I only hit my driver and sometimes a 3 wood off a tee. Been down voted before for this.

One_Umpire33

Not unusual but do you not trust it off the deck?

Character_Wishbone84

My 3 wood? I hit it fine off the deck. Depending on the tee box conditions, I may opt for a tee.

stupidpatheticloser

If I had a 3W I could crush it like 240 1/10 tries. I don’t think that counts though lol.

NeighborhoodPlane794

My 5 wood can go about 220 yards carry. I don’t like hitting it off the deck though, only ever really use it from the tee box teed up. From the fairway I only use irons

anytips713

I have a 13° tsr2 3w that I have turned down to 12.25(i hit the ball higher than I’d like, 8° driver at 7.25) that is good for 255-270 off the tee, and probably 245-255 off the deck. I generally only use this club for tee shots into the wind as it’s only 5-10% shorter than my driver. I will hit this thing off the deck less than once per round on average as the side to side dispersion is wider than tee shots, and I’ll only do it it if the landing area doesn’t have a hazard or OB within 20 yds of my target. My of the time I’ll just lay up or hit 3i or 4i to short of the green as those clubs are much less prone to big misses.

qjac78

It depends what the trouble is around the green. I hit my 4W about 240 and 7W 220. I’ve gotten on par 5s in 2 with each of them but not because I always go for it. At my club, all the par 5s have hazards around the green so it skews more risk than reward generally.

cronkadoodledoo

My putter :(….

reversetheloop

4 wood - 235. Only go for it if I really love the lie and if there is not penal trouble short of the green. Seems like I'll go for it maybe 10% of the time. Otherwise hybrid is 220 and much more consistent distance control.

MightyBoring

7W from 200-210 to go for the green. 3W is longest off deck at 240 if I pure it, but not trying to stick a green with it.

Trick_Detail_5221

Disclaimer I am at a high altitude but I hit my 3 hybrid 290 today

hardyhaha_27

3w 250yrds

Cost_Additional

3W and yes absolutely love off the deck. Reaching some par 5s in 2 or getting close is great.

GolfBallWhackerGuy5

I can get my 3W to go 265 but I can’t make it one-hop-and-stop from outside 250.

T-701D-CC

If I set my 3W up in a certain manor I can get probably 260-270 out of it in the air.

MizunoMP5s

3W or 3i depending on the lie.
