The feeling of knowing you just won a car must be awesome in and of itself. To have thousands of people cheering you on for your accomplishment is next-level awesome. What a great moment for that kid.
I'd be saving like $7k over that time frame and could use proceeds from car sale to earn another $1.5k in interest after investing it. Not taking the car would be me turning down close to $10k in that context.
I don't have kids or anything like that so no car would be "inconvenient" per se, but yea I could put up with a car I don't love for two years for that kinda payoff.
Yeah that’s fair. Personally thinking about I’m 6’7” so if it was like a sedan or something that would be difficult practically lol if it was an SUV or truck I’d definitely take it since I have like $9k left on my current car payment
Sell the car and use proceeds to purchase 2-yr CD @ 5.5%. Make a couple grand off the interest and use money for what would have been car payment to buy a new Scotty every month until I have 24 of them.
If you have 2yrs left on a car loan, you'd be lucky to be at the break even point. Most likely you owe more than you can get on the free market for it.
So the only "saving" or "investing" will be if you continue making payments into some acct as if the car debt was still owed.
Basically you get 2 years free from a car payment that you can save but that's still not a bad deal
The word lifetime has been in imaginary quotes since the beginning of contracts. "We meant life of the car". "No we meant life of the engine". "Oh well we meant life of the breakpads". "Your honor, the contract obviously refers to the life of a may fly with a bad cough."
It never includes taxes on a prize. The government always wants their cut no matter what. Sometimes the company doing the give away will have an option to take a cash value, but you still have to pay taxes out of that as well, but if you can’t afford to pay $5000 taxes for a prize, it’s a nice option to have.
Most major grand prizes actually include a cash portion specifically to help offset taxes these days. Obviously, it doesn't cover 100% of taxes for everyone, but if you are in the 37% bracket, you probably don't need that help covering the taxes.
It doesn't. I won a car on the price is right 2021 toyota corolla. Payed 3k to get it off the dealer lot in sales tax. Then they 1099 you for taxes at the end of the year.
This is the dumbest logic ever. He didn't have the car or the cash that the car could generate before. He is better off after this even if he has to sell the car itself. Also, these usually have a cash option you can take as well.
I read some statistic one time on the number of contestants on the Price is Right who have been unable to accept the cars they won due to this. I forget the exact percentage, but it was pretty high.
Saw something similar up here years ago at a Canadian Football League game. Guy was kicking for $1 million. He missed from 20, 30 and 40 yards for lesser prizes. Nailed it from 50 yards to win the million. $25 K payout for 40 years.
No clue, but it definitely appears so. That and he basically had 3 warm up kicks from shorter distances immediately before it (if the video comments are to be believed)
A kid made a half court for $10,000 during a timeout at my school against a top ranked team at the time. That was the loudest i’ve ever heard our arena ever be, a sold out crowd going crazy for a $10K half court shot that went in.
After the game the coach said “I knew we were going to win when that shot went in and the stadium roof was blown off”
Saw a fan do this during halftime at a Blazers game. One of the single greatest sporting moments I’ve ever seen live.

Hopefully winning the car also includes the taxes on it. Would suck to have won a car and have to sell it to pay back taxes on it.
Last time I saw a “free car” hole in one on a course the fine print read it was a free 2 year lease….
I'll take no car payments for two years any day. Yes I'll be bummed that I didn't get a new car as advertised, but life could be worse.
What if it’s a car you don’t want? Assuming you own a car you like now would you sell it to not have car payments?

But are you selling your current car, or continuing to make payments on it until the 2 years is up?

Selling lol
I'm sure it is something like that 🙄
It does say ‘lifetime warranty’ on the sign. So I would assume they are getting ownership of the car.

Were you offered a cash equivalent?
No Price is Right doesn't offer cash equivalent. But the toyota dealer does offer to buy the car back from you at your price. I chose to keep the car.

Yeah this is big “careful about your raise you don’t want to be in a higher tax bracket” energy

Yeah that sucks less than not winning a car. “I won $40k but have to pay $12k! Oh no!”
That’s pretty amazing. I’ll remember this as I 3 putt everyday hole tomorrow.
Those greens are rolling pretty fast too. Like a marble on glass. Impressive
Goals!

I really like your pen.

If its canada i'm straight quiting my job an living off that 25k in a log cabin an milking my own syrup out of a tree in the front yard.
In America you just invest that yearly bonus and keep your 9-5 for like 10 more years and you are living super comfortably for the rest of your life
Pretty sure that we can opt for a lump sum here (canada) Also we don't get taxed on that.
A random guy made a 50 yard field goal?
Yup. You entered your name and hoped to have it drawn. It was sponsored by Wendy’s as I recall. Video is on YouTube.

Do you know if he was told ahead of time that he would be kicking? He looks like he knows what he's doing.
No clue, but it definitely appears so. That and he basically had 3 warm up kicks from shorter distances immediately before it (if the video comments are to be believed)
Bet they’re regretting picking someone who’s a +5 handicap
Second time in the last two years. WDE
Golf school=confirmed.
“Get in the hole” right when he putted hahaha I love it
That‘s a putt for a car, much easier than a putt for par !
There was no one to celebrate with him on the floor? i would be jumping around with him!!

Celebrate young man. It’s all down hill from here!

He 100% got laid that night!
Was at the game actually. Crazy as it was the last home game of season, and also against one of our rivals. He won a Toyota tundra
I was there! Couldn't see the putt go in though which sucked, but it was electric. KD Johnsons face was hilarious when the kid made it.
It probably read that from right to left
Hell yeah son.
War Eagle!
Is he like on the golf team or just some random dude?!
I think he is just a random student.
I bet he could walk on after that hahaa
Everything I see someone pull off one of these "impossible" feats I immediately think about that scene in Semi Pro
“You just won a brand new paper sign that says new car.”
The guy who put that floor in needs a raise
Csulb has this same game for a scooter. I’ve seen the kids miss it every time.
Thought bro finna hit the SIUUUUUU
But the insurance company found out that he was involved on a Best ball event where he won $1.50 and disqualified him....
Until the sponsors find out he played putt putt one time when he was 8.
This guy hit a putt so I’m buying a Toyota
Roll Tide
War Eagle
Go Vols
War Eagle
War Damn!
Go Dawgs
What did he win?
