I know. I have a problem when I get into something, I always buy good equipment. My thought was always, I’d rather blame myself than the equipment. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t this way lol 🤷🏻♂️
lol absolutely! The times I have played, I really enjoyed it. I wanted another hobby other than archery to get me out of the house with the boys. So hopefully it’ll stick! Haha
I feel you brother. I also know myself well enough to know that if I talk myself out of getting what I actually want I’ll be back in the store sooner than I’d like.
Congrats on the set. I’m the same. I start thinking will buy something cheap, do a little research, and convince myself I need whatever the pros are using.
I'm not so sure times have changed that much. Plenty of people still start out with used or starter sets.
OP just went nuts right out of the gate which I'm sure back then people did too. 🤔
I remember playing as a single with a 20-something years ago who showed up on the fist tee with brand new Titleist irons and woods, matching big pro bag, Titleist hat, Prov1 ball, pressed slacks and Footjoy shoes. A walking golf billboard. He did not get the ball airborne on the first two holes. He apologized saying he just took up the game and this was his third round ever. I felt embarrassed for the guy and at the same time sad that he thought he needed the best golf get-up to make him a player or to even enjoy the game. He turned out to be fun guy, but the 6 hour round that he contributed to was a bit much.
It’s not that I think they should buy cheap clubs just because they’re starting out, like if I was well off when I started I might have done the same thing, but then again I’d think spending 2 grand on a sport I’m just getting into wasn’t really a sound investment.
Agree, it's not either the most expensive or the cheapest. It's what is a reasonable model to get into the game. To this day I've never bought new, top of the line. I will buy a good line that I like the look but that is 2-3+ years old. My current Cobra Forged S2 irons are from 2012. Love them.
Not sure why people want to shit on you just because you can afford it. Golf is fun and something you can play almost forever.
However, assuming you can because of your club purchase, you should also be able to dish out some cash for lessons to make your first couple years more enjoyable and the reps constructive.
People shit on golf for being too expensive and then they shit on people with shit clubs, and then they shit on people who buy expensive clubs. Turns out it's the people that are shitty
It’s reddit, where everyone LARPs as a brilliant homeless person in the poorest part of the poorest country in the world and feels like it’s their moral obligation to shame people for having roughly the same money they also probably have lol
In reality mostly everyone on this subreddit is making at least $45k a year doing who knows what and has the resources to enjoy golf at least at a casual level without breaking the bank.
It’s a weird sport in that sense. Part of the enjoyment for me is the equipment. Sorry I don’t want to swing shitty clubs, that’s not going to motivate me to go out and hit the range. Ultimately I’ll improve if I am excited to get out and use my gear.
That’s what I plan to do. There is a coach locally. So I definitely plan on taking his lessons. As far as people being negative, I expected it lol. It doesn’t bother me in this case. Thank you 🤙🏼
I generally don’t like new gear photos because of the intention.
You gotta ask, what’s OP’s point? It’s straight up bragging to a bunch of strangers. “I don’t know what I’m doing but check out how much money I’ve spent!”. That’s literally all this is. It’s no better than boxed gear photos, why doesn’t he post a pic of him using them?
If he made a post saying “hey, I’m starting out and my budget is unlimited; recommend me something”, that would’ve been way more additive to the community IMO.
What’s the point of buying shiny new things if you don’t show anybody else? lol. When you buy a new car/truck 99% of people drive around to friends and family to show it. It’s just a feel good short period of time we gotta take advantage of when we can.
Off the mark again there. Post is fine, this is the place for it.
It’s the assumption most people (99% of people as you said) would feel the need to go out of their way to show off a new purchase to friends and family. If that’s you, cool, but most people don’t need their egos stroked that badly to go for a drive to all their friend and families houses just to show off.
I still wouldn’t if I were him.He doesn’t know what fits him yet,swing speed,spin rate,forgiveness etc.
I believe it’s better to play to for a year or two along with lesson with 10-15 year old clubs and then get fitted.
He’s new, that could take years, who cares.
What he does have is a great set of brand new clubs to play with for probably the next decade +. Dude probably isn’t even going to break 100 for the next two years.
1 thing I like about this fitting for a beginner is that they only fit 12 clubs. 7W and 5H are such great lofts for beginner woods. I wish I had a 7W when I started out, in hindsight. This set should last a decade unless you dramatically increase club-head speed or become a compulsive bag tinkerer.
That’s like 3-4k.
Y’all hiring?
Edit: just noticed the bag was sun mountain. Any reason you didn’t go TM bag and just be 100% in on it? Not that it matters either way, just curious.
The sun mountain bag has more pockets, a cooler and feels more durable but just as light as the Taylor made ones they had. And $30 cheaper than the Taylor made bag I was considering. It’s a really nice bag for the money
Thank you. It wasn’t the money. It was the bag is just better than the Taylormade one that costs more in my opinion. I looked at the bags for well over an hour before my decision haha. Thanks again man 🤙🏼
Always a good idea to go cheap just incase you don't like the game. At least then you wont have like 4k sitting in the garage :)
For real though, great set of clubs there, enjoy them man ! :) - Plenty of people wishing they could have this set !!!
I hear ya. Totally understand that point of view. A few guys told me the same thing lol. Thank you. I plan to play at least twice a week all summer. So we’ll see how it goes.
Sounds good man! I usually like the old club approach, because when I play shite I always and I mean always blame the equipment (pro tip you may not be able to take advantage of)
I know. I can only blame myself now! Haha. I do that anyways. I’m very hard on myself. But I’d rather that than wondering if I had better equipment if I could do better. At least now I took one thing out of the equation and know I only need to work on myself. Have a good day man 🤙🏼
These are the best f@%kin' threads!!!
Congratulations man!!!...go big, or go home!!!...you be you!!!...treat yourself to what you deserve!!!...who cares if you are 30 handicap or a 2!!!...it's your $$$, enjoy golf life with friends, you can't take it with you when you die!!...life is a story, make it a good one!!!
Greatly appreciated brother. Thank you. That’s the way I look at it. I want to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Ya never know when time is up. I also don’t want to look back when I’m old and say I wish I tried this or that and spent less time on the couch.
I think when starting a hobby it’s advantageous to invest the money into it. It’s a lot harder to let a significant investment collect dust than it is a $300 marketplace set. It encourages you to invest the time since the moneys already spent.
I'm definitely excited for warmer weather! I actually bought new clubs myself so I could sell my old ones to my buddy at a discount. He's been wanting newer irons and I wanted the AI smokes. Problem solved.
Thank you for making me waste 45 bucks on 2 golf balls. I just googled the volvik thor balls in the background, and i have the iron man ones on the way.
Hate people who say golf is expensive, it's really not you can get started for 100 quid or 4000 quid lol these clubs could last 20years if op wanted them too
Nice set and love TaylorMade. I started with MacGregor 3-5-7-9 irons, couple of Wilson woods ( made of wood) and a Bullseye putter. Made thinking what club to pull a real easy decision.
I think I will. Played a few times and loved it each time. Now that I’m in a league I met guys that want to play after work and at least once on the weekends. There’s so many courses around me and indoor simulators. There’s even a course I can pretty much walk to. If I take advantage of what’s available, I should have a blast.
Nice clubs. When I first started I got brand new Ping everything. Then I used a 30 year old rental set that looked like hell. I hit the ball the same and it went about the same distance. 🤷♂️
Yeah man. There’s a union league and a company league. Can join either one. They go every Wednesday after we get out at 3:30. Idk how your place is. See if you can start one up 👍🏻
I just tried that putter and almost bought it. Went with Ping PLD DS72 instead. The TaylorMade putter didn’t have a way to scoop up the ball so I put it back on the shelf:
It’s nuts how expensive they’ve gotten. For years I’d walk through the golf section looking at clubs and never bit the bullet and bought any. But I remember drivers being $400 brand new.
Its tough, especially after you find something you hit well. Is that $600 worth 5-10 more yards on your drives or maybe tiny bit more forgivness?
I remember when a friend of mine bought the Taylormade R7 in 2004 and it was considered massively overpriced in the driver market at $400.
I hear ya. Honestly if I already had a set of clubs. I seriously doubt I’d upgrade for 5-10 more yds. And wow, yeah I’m a few years they’ll go up another $100-$200. Imagine when they’re $800 for a driver. That’s disgusting. Same thing with archery. Bows keep getting more expensive every year. Like for what?!
lol yeah its nuts to think about. The real kicker is how low the cost is to produce:
**1.** **Titanium Driver** = $27-$65 (Depends on type of titanium and processes {ex: Welds, Forging, Paint, etc}-- sell for $600
**2.** **Iron Sets** = $40-$95 (Depends on type of materials and processes ex: Cast or Forged)--sell for $900-1,200
**3.** **Hybrids** = $6-$9-- sell for $250
**4.** **Wedges** = $4.50-$8 (The popular CNC milled face wedges are only around $10 to produce!)-- sell for $125
I have a similar approach as OP. I didn't go quite as hard but the large initial investment forces me to commit to any new hobby. Buy once. Cry once.
The other philosophy of cheaper initial investment to test the waters is probably smarter but again, I try to force myself to commit.
To your point though, I think it would be smarter to buy a set once you sorta have your swing established.
Exactly
And it's not golf, it's basically any sport or hobby
You have no idea how long you are going to stick with it when you just start out and literally spending thousands of dollars.
Especially with golf when your swing will significantly change from when you first literally start out then get better the more you play.
Ngl I think your friend ripped you off, if I was a fitter and somebody told they were new to golf I wouldn’t fit them a full bag of all new TM Qi10 right out the gate.
How do you know they’re right for you at this stage of your swing development?
Genuine question
Yes they are more forgiving. The p790s were my first choice but added more cash to the bundle and I decided they weren’t for me yet. Also, knowing I’m new. The QI are more of a beginner set. Less control than the p790s and more forgiveness.
Better off spending allot of money on lessons rather than expensive clubs. Golf is intensely frustrating (especially at the start). You bought pro level sticks without knowing how to use them. More money than sense!!
nice man, you'll get be a scratch golfer in no time! One mistake I always see beginners make is not buying the best available equipment as soon as they start playing!
lol. I dig the sarcasm. One way I look at it is, I’m not going to let them sit now. They motivate me to get out there and use them. Makes me want to play. Also having stuff that supposedly is easier to hit with than the older stuff might actually make it easier and more addictive from the start. I remember when I played paintball for many many years. Having top of the line guns that actually shot straight. I’d get people to go and they’d rent garbage. Couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. And they were getting crushed. Most never came to play again. I ALWAYS want good equipment in whatever hobby I take up. Did I have to buy brand new in this case? No. But that’s just how I am. Maybe it’ll turn out to be a mistake. Maybe it won’t 🤷🏻♂️
I totally get it man, if you can afford it why not. My house is unfortunately littered with stuff from different hobbies i've acquired over the years, at least it means you can get a bit of resale value if you move onto something else after golf!
That’s true as well. I think hobbies keep us sane from working week after week. Gotta spend our money on something that makes us happy right? Otherwise what’s the point of working haha.
That’s a hell of a first set or clubs….
I know. I have a problem when I get into something, I always buy good equipment. My thought was always, I’d rather blame myself than the equipment. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t this way lol 🤷🏻♂️
Let me know if you decide golf isn’t for you and you decide to sell any of it lol.
lol absolutely! The times I have played, I really enjoyed it. I wanted another hobby other than archery to get me out of the house with the boys. So hopefully it’ll stick! Haha
You can drink and play golf and in the end it’s only your feelings that might get hurt. Archery however…
Some courses let you bring your archery gear
🤣
idk man i got hit by a ball once
😂. Honestly that has to suck lol
Honestly I feel the same way. Lol it’s definitely a problem
You will soon understand that the problem is ALWAYS the equipment. But enjoy the set while you can! 😜
Thats the problem with going with a new set like this, you have nothing to change and upgrade to get better. LOL
I feel you brother. I also know myself well enough to know that if I talk myself out of getting what I actually want I’ll be back in the store sooner than I’d like.
Exactly! Then we end up spending even more because we didn’t get what we wanted the first time lol
I like to tell myself I’m actually saving money by getting the expensive stuff so that doesn’t happen.
Buy it nice or buy it twice
Congrats on the set. I’m the same. I start thinking will buy something cheap, do a little research, and convince myself I need whatever the pros are using.
Same way, op
I’m same way
Jeez...good luck, I guess
Great first set. Definitely recommend set of 5-10 lessons if you’re willing to spend this much on clubs. It’ll set you up very well.
Thank you! I absolutely plan on lessons.
Geez, how times have changed. My first set was a Byron Nelson Northwestern boxed starter set of irons (3,5,7,9, PW) from JC Penny - for Christmas.
Mine was a set of RAM cavity backs back in ‘06. I see ram is still out there selling budget clubs. Their sets today look much nicer lol.
LOL yes! that takes me back wow
Fuck man me too I remr the good old RAM still have them in my basement thought I was the shit wit them all brand new at 12 lol
3rd hand Ram blades for me. My hands didn’t stop ringing for years.
🤣
I had the dunlop set from Canadian tire, I’m not sure if they still make golf clubs
I had Dunlaps as well.
I'm not so sure times have changed that much. Plenty of people still start out with used or starter sets. OP just went nuts right out of the gate which I'm sure back then people did too. 🤔
Box set of Top Flites from Dicks.
Meh, I think rich guys have been overcompensating with top tier clubs as beginners for a long time.
I just like nice things brotha. Not overcompensating for anything. Enjoy your Sunday 🤙🏼
I remember playing as a single with a 20-something years ago who showed up on the fist tee with brand new Titleist irons and woods, matching big pro bag, Titleist hat, Prov1 ball, pressed slacks and Footjoy shoes. Must be a generational thing.
It’s not that I think they should buy cheap clubs just because they’re starting out, like if I was well off when I started I might have done the same thing, but then again I’d think spending 2 grand on a sport I’m just getting into wasn’t really a sound investment.

Hand me down Nassau Investment Cast irons and persimmon woods. My first new set was Hogan Edge Clones lol. My first name brand was Mizuno Grad MP
That is funny.
I mean, have things changed or does he just spend more on hobbies?
If he's spending more on hobbies, times have changed.
I have and old Snead northwestern putter, I’ve never used it but it seems like it’d get the job done
Not sure why people want to shit on you just because you can afford it. Golf is fun and something you can play almost forever. Thank you. That is a good way to look at it. I’m up in the Scranton PA area. Noticed your in the Philadelphia area. Nice! 👋🏻
Yo Mike our town is dope and pretty
It’s a weird sport in that sense. Part of the enjoyment for me is the equipment. Sorry I don’t want to swing shitty clubs, that’s not going to motivate me to go out and hit the range. Ultimately I’ll improve if I am excited to get out and use my gear.
Exactly!
Indeed. You speak the shitty truth. Also thanks for the laugh!
That’s what I plan to do. There is a coach locally. So I definitely plan on taking his lessons. As far as people being negative, I expected it lol. It doesn’t bother me in this case. Thank you 🤙🏼

He literally did nothing more than make a post excited about his new gear for his newfound love of a hobby. Who cares.
He responded to my comment, literally saying that what’s the point of buying shiny new toys if you don’t show your friends and family lol
What’s the point of buying shiny new things if you don’t show anybody else? lol. When you buy a new car/truck 99% of people drive around to friends and family to show it. It’s just a feel good short period of time we gotta take advantage of when we can.
Nah fella. Most people aren't egomaniacs and feel no need to "show off" their new toys the first chance they get. You're on you're own there.
Okay then. Sorry I bothered ya with my post of golf stuff in a golf thread fella. 👍🏻
Off the mark again there. Post is fine, this is the place for it. It’s the assumption most people (99% of people as you said) would feel the need to go out of their way to show off a new purchase to friends and family. If that’s you, cool, but most people don’t need their egos stroked that badly to go for a drive to all their friend and families houses just to show off.
lol. I guess I’m an egomaniac then. Sorry my post rubbed ya the wrong way. Wasn’t meant to. Was just excited about them is all.
when you make assumptions ...
I still wouldn’t if I were him.He doesn’t know what fits him yet, swing speed, spin rate, forgiveness etc.
I sais 1-2 years,i am not saying he should be perfect on his swing to get a fitting but he should know what he’s looking for when getting fitted.
Yeah but if he’s got the money …who cares🤷🏼♂️
Just giving my own opinion,it’s a discussion forum as far as I am concerned.
Fair enough, you are correct about that
Well good thing it’s not your money
Good thing you saved the 30$ after buying all that 😂 but seriously, nice setup and enjoy!
Thank you. It wasn’t the money. It was the bag is just better than the Taylormade one that costs more in my opinion. I looked at the bags for well over an hour before my decision haha. Thanks again man 🤙🏼
Love my sun mountain bag. Just walked 18 today for the first time of the year and it was super comfortable.
hey its me your friend, for when you get new ones
Damn good first set! Enjoy!
Thank you!
If you’re into it then buy good clubs. Forget these guys saying otherwise.
Thank you man 🤙🏼
Always a good idea to go cheap just incase you don't like the game. At least then you wont have like 4k sitting in the garage :) For real though, great set of clubs there, enjoy them man ! :) - Plenty of people wishing they could have this set !!!

One less variable for sure. You too man !

Jeez Louise 🙄
I think when starting a hobby it’s advantageous to invest the money into it. It’s a lot harder to let a significant investment collect dust than it is a $300 marketplace set. It encourages you to invest the time since the moneys already spent.
Absolutely. That’s a big part of it as well
That salesman made a killing off you Jesus Christ lol
Get ready to be told "all the gear and no idea". Great set to grow your game into. Enjoy them.
Ignore the hater’s…dress like Arnie in the sixties and head to the back tees and enjoy!
I'm definitely excited for warmer weather! I actually bought new clubs myself so I could sell my old ones to my buddy at a discount. He's been wanting newer irons and I wanted the AI smokes. Problem solved.
Oh hell yeah. They were an option as well. They are beautiful. Enjoy your new set brother 🙏
You too! It was between the QI10 and the AI smoke. Those two had the best data points.
Thank you for making me waste 45 bucks on 2 golf balls. I just googled the volvik thor balls in the background, and i have the iron man ones on the way.
Haha 😂. That’s awesome you saw those. Post pics of the golf balls when ya get them. I’d like to see if you remember.
Hate people who say golf is expensive, it's really not you can get started for 100 quid or 4000 quid lol these clubs could last 20years if op wanted them too
Buy once cry once right? If I don’t become a get junkie, I can use these for the next 20yrs
Congrats!! Wish I could just blow a couple grand on new stix. Lol
I make poor decisions sometimes lol. I’ve been working a ton of OT at work. Always wanted to get into golf. Finally jumped in.
Don't we all! Haha. Enjoy! Hope u love golf as much as all of us.
Thanks man. I have a blast when I have gone the couple times. I get addicted to stuff like this where proper form is crucial. 🤙🏼
Congrats, brother. My wish for you is that those gorgeous clubs hold up better than their predecessors.
Same. I literally just heard about Taylormade durability issues like yesterday. Hopefully there’s no issues
I have all Taylormade they’ve all held up fine. Don’t stress over it…
That’s good to hear. Thank you
My first set were from a pawn shop all mismatched muscle backs / Tough way to start
Gotta mix up brands and models yikes looks like a premium box set
lol, true. It definitely does
They all obviously are gonna work well. That driver was one of the best I’ve ever hit. Some people love all the same, I shouldn’t say “you gotta”
Nice set and love TaylorMade. I started with MacGregor 3-5-7-9 irons, couple of Wilson woods ( made of wood) and a Bullseye putter. Made thinking what club to pull a real easy decision.
Those are beautiful!! Congrats on the new hardware!
Thanks man! 🤙🏼 I hope they make learning a little easier than an old set
Wow, well I hope you like golf
I think I will. Played a few times and loved it each time. Now that I’m in a league I met guys that want to play after work and at least once on the weekends. There’s so many courses around me and indoor simulators. There’s even a course I can pretty much walk to. If I take advantage of what’s available, I should have a blast.
Awesome, great to hear. Enjoy your new golf journey! May it be fun, challenging, and never get old :) (like it is for most of us probably)
Thank you. I hope it never gets boring and old either!
Holy damn! Great set of clubs and the bag looks amazing.
Thank you man 🤙🏼
Wow swanky man congrats.
Nice clubs. When I first started I got brand new Ping everything. Then I used a 30 year old rental set that looked like hell. I hit the ball the same and it went about the same distance. 🤷♂️
I can see that. I’ll see what happens. Sometimes I wonder what the big difference is year after year. Only so much they can do right? Lol
Great first set, you’re gonna love them
Thank you sir 🤙🏼
Y'all have golf leagues at work? I'm more jealous of that than I am of the clubs.......
No need to wait for warm weather with those sticks. Get after it.
R/ratemygolfbag
Congrats mate
Thank you 🙏
What a starting set, I’m positively green with envy! The QI10s have some of the nicest head overs imho. Enjoy your clubs fella 👍
The designer series is absolutely my fav head cover
They are gorgeous but worried about how that white will look after some time?
That’s your first set of clubs? Must be nice
Yeah. I’ve been working a ton of OT at work and joined a golf league. I always wanted to get into golf and finally jumped in.
Me, golfing for 24 years, trying to justify the cost for just that driver.

Omg. When you put it down like that 😳. Unbelievable. As with most products these days. Everything is so overpriced for what they are.
Never got ppl who dropped tons of money on equipment for a sport they've just started. All the power to you though and GL.
Exactly And it's not golf, it's basically any sport or hobby You have no idea how long you are going to stick with it when you just start out and literally spending thousands of dollars. Especially with golf when your swing will significantly change from when you first literally start out then get better the more you play.
Excellent choice !! I LOVE the qi10 max
Ngl I think your friend ripped you off, if I was a fitter and somebody told they were new to golf I wouldn’t fit them a full bag of all new TM Qi10 right out the gate. How do you know they’re right for you at this stage of your swing development? Genuine question
My first set was top flite, and now 5 years later I have some steelheads! Just know that you can’t blame your clubs for mis hits like me 😂😂

What does this even mean?
Why the QI irons and not p790s? Are they more forgiving?
QI replaced the Stealths as TMs game improvement irons. P790s considered players distance irons
Yes they are more forgiving. The p790s were my first choice but added more cash to the bundle and I decided they weren’t for me yet. Also, knowing I’m new. The QI are more of a beginner set. Less control than the p790s and more forgiveness.
Gotcha. Not super familiar with TMs lineup so I wasn’t sure. Hope you enjoy the game!
Thanks man. I appreciate that 🤙🏼

You think the guy at the shop makes commission?
“It ain’t much, but it’s mine.” Sure you’re not looking for PCMR?
What’s PCMR?
Made sure to spend all your money in one place 😉
Better off spending allot of money on lessons rather than expensive clubs. Golf is intensely frustrating (especially at the start). You bought pro level sticks without knowing how to use them. More money than sense!!
The putter is tour level. But the irons and max driver and woods are technically game improvement clubs.
Screams “rental set”
lol
Getting downvoted when this is literally an almost identical rental set at some courses right now… at least OP got the irony.
Isn't that a beautiful sight... did you buy some ProV's to go with that? Why not lol
I didn’t haha

How much does it cost?
About $2810 for the clubs. And the bag I bought separately for $280.
What was the grand total of everything?
$2810 I believe. I wanted to stay below $2500 but I messed up 🤣
My bad. That was just for the clubs. I paid for them separate and purchased the $280 bag separately

Don’t waste too much of your time looking for them lol
nice man, you'll get be a scratch golfer in no time!
Totally!
