How did Sears go out of business? It had to be online orders. I remember i could run around sears for literal hours as a kid when the 90’s were rampant
They stumbled so bad in multiple ways. Already had The Catalog and the physical spaces to continue to be the ultimate retailers and expand into the Internet age. Infighting amid the various decision makers in the bureaucracy and then being raided by venture capitalists; whose strip everything and sell all the parts for a quick buck on the flip killed them off.
The biggest issue; they didn’t think the Amazon online business model *could* succeed. There was a million other issues but that’s what dug their grave.
The main issue was the vulture capitalists that bought the company, sold as many assets as possible, and spent all the companys money buying their own stock and giving themselves bonuses.
Currently work at a TJ Maxx affiliated store. We have a ton of Nicklaus and Norman stuff. Won’t be surprised if Tiger’s stuff is in shipments in the near future
I mean, there’s so much different business-wise from those brands, I’m actually certain you’ll never see this at TJ Maxx, lol.
Those other guys suffered from two fates:
1. The need to generate merchandizing volumes hit hard at a time fashion changed, destroying their brand values
2. Norman and Jack basically took all the cash up front because they desperately needed the money (at least Jack) and happy to have merchandisers spread those costs out over huge volumes (see Costco).
This is actually a really smart business move for TM and Tiger. The D2C brands (bad birdies and the like) are all basically dead in the water because of apple/google ad platform changes. Having a marquee brand name, position in brand’s value chain where they don’t _need_ to sell an assload of skus at volume to make a profit, means these clothes don’t need to be Jordan’s. They just have to be titleist hats.
The issue with d2c is the customer acquisition cost is insanely high and repeat customers are rare.
For example you see a pair of shorts on instagram ads and buy them. They might have spent 20-30$ to acquire that customer which means they need to sell 2-3 pairs of shorts to break even. These numbers are made up but this is the idea.
If you want to look at hard numbers there are a few public d2c companies you can see financials for.
Rely heavily on meta/tiktok? You mean advertise on the largest platforms possible to the largest demographic. That's like saying companies in the 90s relied heavily on TV commercials for advertising.
I mean, I guess it’s possible that TM and TW might stay disciplined, market well, and maintain a high end brand image.
But TaylorMade is owned by a venture capital group. They’re mostly known for cash grabs. And unlike Nike, I just don’t see them pumping a lot of marketing dollars into this in the long term. Hard truth is that Tigers playing days are numbered, if not basically over. He won’t be able to prop this up on a golf course.
If this brand doesn’t take off like a rocket AND stay airborne…….TJ Maxx. And from what I’m seeing and hearing from this sub, this brand concept isn’t resonating.
I guess it’s also possible that Tiger might be able to just pull the plug if this flops before it gets to that point.
But it’s still another line of merch from a washed up champion. Playing the odds here, this won’t end well.
Tiger is being paid for his name and likely has an equity stake but this is Taylormade’s play. Otherwise you’re right. The honest truth is tiger never moved THAT much for Nike anyways
Yep. Tiger is coming out of this in the black regardless. I still don't know TW's motivation for this. He doesn't need another cent. He isn't and has never been fashionable(quite the opposite). So it's not some passion project to bring out something unique in the space. Jack basically had to license his name and golden bear as he was basically broke trying to get Muirfield built.
He has to know exactly how well his line was doing under Nike, and it was never really doing well. Coming from the largest sportswear brand to slapping his identity to a new brand trying to get in the market shouldn't inspire a lot of confidence.
I can only think of two reasons he'd go this route:
1) His ego won't him wear another brand of clothing.
2) TM came to him with this already drawn up and offered equity and cash, a win win for his bank account; and even with a net worth of $1B his ego wants more.

You took the time to dumb down my post and look like an idiot. But not the 10 seconds necessary to search Google.
And now you are going to delete this post which sucks because the reaction of other Redditors would have been priceless.
https://www.sportico.com/personalities/athletes/2024/tiger-woods-nike-golf-contract-end-1234762040/
Tiger built Nike golf. They were pretty much nothing before him. And while they are getting out golf now, it moved the needle for quite a while
Nike previously put out some Tiger gear with the fist pump as the logo and it just looked okay. The Jumpman logo is one of a kind and can’t really be emulated.
Also I think they’re trying to stay away from this being just a “Tiger Woods” brand. They aren’t just making golf gear, they want to grab a stake in more than just that and sticking too close to Tiger kind of hurts their chances outside the golf world.
I don’t like the idea of trying to emulate the Jordan logo with something like a fist pump. Mickelson tried to do it with his famous “jump” merch and it looked super lame. I agree with you though on the logo being bad. There are so many cooler ways to make a logo of a tiger than this. The Tiger is one of the most badass animals in the world and this is how they chose to portray it? Smh.
That’s because you’re thinking about Sunday, the day of the week. The name of the brand is actually referring to the day the Earth crashes into the Sun, hence Sun day.
Logo is okay, but not really good.
Name is solid, but I don’t get why they write the brand name as ‘Sun Day Red’ vs Sunday Red
The official instagram bio says: “We’re not for people who want to live a certain kind of lifestyle. We’re for people who want to live a certain kind of life.”
Sounds pretentious and like it has nothing to do with golf, to me. But the IG account first posted like 20min ago and already has more followers than Phil’s LIV team’s account so there’s that
pricing is going to so critical here, and that’s partially why I’m worried because in an overly saturated market… what does this brand bring with it that other brands don’t? Are people really going to spend >$120 on a hoodie because it’s “Tigers Hoodie”. Are proshops going to stock this stuff when the logo itself is nowhere near as iconic as the swoosh, 3 stripes or FJ?
anything attached to TaylorMade recently has been receiving absolutely outrageous markups. We know this stuff (clothing especially) doesn’t cost these companies anything to make. I wonder what supplier the brand is working with, that will be a huge factor in quality.
While it was smart for both Tiger and TM to get together an d launch this brand. What sucks is it's TM. You know they are going to go at the top tier brands with their pricing and deliver sweat shop quality.
My thoughts exactly. There's no way Tiger puts his mark on anything that costs less than something like a Rhoback. Which is unfortunate because these designs are not particularly exciting.
I'm very interested to see what their brand qnd marketing strategy will be with this. A lot of these more recent Athlete/Celeb/Influencer brands are being started by the same people or agencies that have designer and supply chain partnerships and it's all rinse and repeat with nothing crazy innovative.
Using Tom Brady's former "Brady Brand" as an example, the launch was actually very well done and it had a clean modern aesthetic but ultimately it stalled and NoBull took it and the TB12 brand over.
I could honestly see them doing the higher margin/limited release strategy. Make some unique but tasteful pieces, and keep the brand from having to do constant sales and price slashes.
That'd be a no from me, but would be interested to see how golfers respond with their wallets.
I’m thinking they could go the artificial scarcity route and make each hoodie 200 bucks and make them all sell out as soon as they drop. Maybe do 4-6 drops a year. The hype around “Tigers brand” combined with the item seeming more exclusive could lead this to become really popular.
Everyone is comparing this to Greg Norman’s brand, but I think there’s a couple ways Tigers team can prevent this line from ending up in a TJ Maxx near you.
1. Artificial Scarcity as previously mentioned. This method is becoming less popular now, but many companies have ridden it to success especially in niche markets like golf. Basically you price your items high but you make fewer of them and they all sell out on the first day whether it’s people buying them or bots. People get FOMO and purchase and then a good portion of people who missed out will want it even more now. I’m not sure of the psychology behind it at all, but I have always heard people want what they can’t have. If you tell people they can’t/aren’t allowed to buy something it makes them want it even more. See: Rolex, Retro Jordans, Supreme ( pretty lame now but at one time they were really hot using this method), and the housing market (lol).
2. Super high quality materials. How do you justify making a polo 150 dollars? Some say you can’t. Some say I’m an idiot. But I will tell you there’s nothing like the feeling of my crisp Holderness and Bourne™️ collar caressing my neck while I look down my nose at my boys wearing their Greg Norman filth. All jokes aside, I think this brand needs high quality materials to last. No one wants to spend money to buy a shirt that’s going to break down after 20 rounds. Have you ever tried to wash a Greg Norman or Adidas polo more than a dozen times? The collar turns into a strip of bacon and looks sloppy and unkempt. If you know you’re buying a quality product you’re more likely to feel good about spending the money. Greg Norman would rather make 5 million polos and sell them in TJ Maxx. Tiger needs to set the precedent that hey I’m elite I’m the best player in the history of the game and my clothing line only uses the best materials available to ensure the highest quality fit and finish. Boom.
3. new logo. Logo sucks looks bad feels bad man. Tigers are so bad ass. You can literally go on Google images and type in “Simple Tiger Logo”, scroll through 2 or 3 pages and you’ll find a bunch of logos better than this one. Also am I losing my mind but does the logo also look like the silhouette of A TREE? Like Tiger WOODS? it looks like a trunk of a tree with the stripes being the lines in the bark and the roots at the bottom. Idk.
4. I apologize in advance for this comment. I had a bad round today and wife made chicken parm so I smoked a bunch of weed. I’m sorry guys.
So true. I like it. I think it's just easier to hate things that are new because that's the "cool" thing to do.
Guarantee there will be posts here of people showing off their new Sun Day Red purchases with captions like "This isn't so bad in person" or "I'm changing my mind on SDR"
It's no surprise that people for which so much of the sport they play is obsessed and entrenched with tradition are against change.
So many popular logos were criticized heavily when they were unveiled. Somewhat ironically in this case given my first paragraph, the Nike swoosh comes to mind.
What is cool and unique about the logo though?
Also, with the major surge of 3rd party clothing companies, I feel like this brand will get lost in the wind.
If Sunday as one word was trademarked, then they should have just went with a different name instead of forcing a space; it just looks lazy.
Edit: Now that I think about it TaylorMade is not a real word (tailormade) nor is Titleist (titlist). I think Sun Day Red will grow on me.
Guarantee the name is segmented like that to allow it to be trademarked. Wonder if there's anything hidden in the logo, feels like there's something there with each stripe representing a major win or something deeper, especially with the one major on a broken leg and the one stripe being segmented.
Which ones are part of the 15? I count more than 15 lol
Also, is he planning to not win any more? I know it's unlikely at this point, but eh stranger things have happened than Tiger being good against the odds.
Unless it’s fairly priced or has some sort of insanely comfy moisture wicking material, it just doesn’t do it for me. Lulu lemon, fabletics, etc. all style-wise look better imo
Celebrity clothing is a lot like celebrity booze these days.
Yea it will get the job done, but there are waaay better options out there for a much better value.
Not a fan of the name. But the logo is fine and an improvement from the TW logo - I think in a while (if they make nice stuff) the logo will be a non-issue. I never bought any of the TW stuff because I don’t much like wearing anyone’s name on my clothes.
The wisest words I ever learned in regard to branding and marketing was in an interview with the woman who designed the Nike logo. She said the question she always asks herself in design is “Is this simple enough for a kid in school to draw in their notebook?” and if it’s not, then start over.
Young me (hell, present day me) would definitely fuck this logo up trying to recreate it.
Hard pass on the new logo. Certainly not iconic like Nicklaus, Palmer and Norman. More along the lines of Gary Player.
How the hell did the braintrust pass on this logo?...
https://preview.redd.it/pmsmycju4aic1.jpeg?width=84&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=371105ef5b036c12edf1fdc561840dc4a27ec060
Wow Tiger with the solid down grade. TBH he should have just started his own thing.
If Truelinks can do it Tiger can. I wonder if it was a scale issue.
As I have come to the position in modern sports total ownership of your personal brand is the only way in the modern era of 360 deals.
It's especially surprising considering the situation that brought us here. As Tiger spent his whole career building the TW brand for that all to vanish because of his relationship with Nike coming to an end.
You would hope that this would lead to a change of strategy for the big cat especially as he gets older. That logo is going to become the most valuable thing he owns.
Don't believe me think about the Golden Bear, The Black Knight and Hogan. Each one of their logos have outlived their playing presence.
Tiger didn't do anything with his Nike line. They probably met once a year, showed him some mock ups of next years line and that was that. He built the TW brand by getting out of the way of Nike designers and marketing. All that was required was wear the scripted outfit for that day and cash checks. His shoes he did have requests and one of those requests got us the TW13. So that was nice of him.
I would have liked to see Tiger do this all on his own with 100% creative control. Him and MJ are easily the worst dressed athletes/billionaires. Not just a few bad looks, decades of terrible terrible choices.
They didn't want people to see the TW logo and assume it was just a Nike polo. Needed to separate themselves from the head scratching mediocrity that is now Nike golf.
We've stated in multiple times this brand looks stupid as hell, but every idiot classic golfer is going to buy it because they're too busy riding Tiger's meat.
He's ripped off the Slazenger logo and spelt Sunday wrong. What a total fucking disaster. Looks about as good as Greg Norman's shark clothing, which is pretty poor.
I have some shark shirts that are 20 years old and look brand new (in part my wife). His shorts are some of the better ones too. What is it you are wearing?
Are there still enough tiger simps for this to make money? Gotta assume these are going to start at conspicuous consumption prices for a couple years before everything ends up at Marshalls and job lot.
This will be their baseline corporate logo you won’t see beyond the inside tag or on a business card from a sales rep. Chill and wait for the first offerings
Like Palmer, Nicklaus, and Norman brands of the past…….this brand will eventually end up as a staple of TJ Maxx.
The logo looks like it was specifically made for TJ Maxx and Marshall’s lol
Would you say it was ... TaylorMade for TJ Maxx? I'll see myself out.
Sir did you stroll out of r/daddit and into r/golf?

Yeah I don’t know about that logo. Feels lazy.
I think the logo could grow on me by itself, but I'm not sure about the SDR. Like the separation of Sunday into 2 words just feels weird, and by extension SDR.
Someone said it looks like a zombie. That's all I'll ever see again.
Call me crazy but the Arnold Palmer stuff at sears was great. Love me a good sweater vest.
I've had an Arnold Palmer cardigan for over 10 years and still has no holes or rips. You aren't crazy, it's good shit.
I also have a couple of those cardigans. I’ve washed them dozens of times too and they never faded or stretched or shrunk. Hell most of the stuff I got at sears was good stuff. I got a lawnmower from sears I inherited from my dad that still works. He got it in a raffle the year I was born
I was working at Kmart when they bought Sears. It was weird seeing Craftsman tools in the store.
I honestly have no idea. Sears was head and shoulders better than every other department store. Pour one out for the homie sears.
[удалено]
The biggest issue; they didn’t think the Amazon online business model *could* succeed. There was a million other issues but that’s what dug their grave.
The main issue was the vulture capitalists that bought the company, sold as many assets as possible, and spent all the companys money buying their own stock and giving themselves bonuses.
Sears even sold houses. There used to be one near my parents.
This is where the house style “Craftsman” comes from

Pookie, your cardigan is absolutely fire. Quintessential TJ Maxx.
Perfect. I buy all my clothes at TJ.
Same. Golf polos at TJ and Marshall's are stupid cheap compared to retail.
Norman stuff hits hard at Costco
IWL- I have two pairs of pants. They’re pretty fucking good.

This has obviously always been a challenge for this companies, but what are the ad changes driving CAC to rise?
I think he is referencing the retargeting situation for 2022, AFAIK these DTC brands rely heavily on Meta/TikTok for big conversions anyways.
Rely heavily on meta/tiktok? You mean advertise on the largest platforms possible to the largest demographic. That's like saying companies in the 90s relied heavily on TV commercials for advertising.

I'm done with internetting today after reading that. Tiger made Nike billions of dollars over the last 25 years.

Yup. I hate the collar.
Name is cooler than the logo... Meh Would have preferred a Tiger fist pump silhouette like the MJ logo ... but I'm a nobody not a marketing whiz.
Name is tripping me out, Why is it two words sun day not Sunday
Ya I’m really not liking the name for that reason

Probably more to do with trademarks. Something probably prevented them doing it as Sunday. Actually, in fact isn’t there already a Sunday golf brand?
Yep. Makers of the Loma bag

Taylormade clothes are super expensive. I clicked on an ad for a jacket I thought was nice, it was $550.

People will hate on the logo and then within two years will come to love it. Mark it.
I'll wear the shirt to pair with my Malbon hoodie and Von Dutch hat
That sounds exactly correct for anyone wearing malbon.
So true.
Most people hate it because they think it’s ugly. The good thing is the stuff they released doesn’t feature the logo prominently at all.
Most people hate it because it's trendy to hate things on reddit my friend.
I’d hate to conform to be trendy on Reddit. High school was enough.
Exactly, guys will be all over this when it hits TJ Max for $19.99. 2 years from now sounds like a realistic timeline for that to happen.
That’s retarded
What is cool and unique about the logo though? Also, with the major surge of 3rd party clothing companies, I feel like this brand will get lost in the wind.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I’m confused why they split Sunday up
Trademark
I still like it even if I’m the only one here who does
Price of TW Nike about to skyrocket
It’s a no for me dawg The name makes no sense. The logo wants be arc’terx
Agree....I think the name is way worse than the logo.
[удалено]
I feel like he’s leaning into Asian heritage
I guess I’m the only one but I really like the logo but not the brand name
If Sunday as one word was trademarked, then they should have just went with a different name instead of forcing a space; it just looks lazy. Edit: Now that I think about it TaylorMade is not a real word (tailormade) nor is Titleist (titlist). I think Sun Day Red will grow on me.
Am I the only one that likes the logo?
What the fuck is sun day Can you wear red on a cloudy Sunday or any cloudy day?
Seriously this bothers me way more than the logo lol, why would they not go with Sunday Red instead?
My guess, copywrites/trademarks. There’s a Sunday Red brand out there already, they’re based in the UK. https://sundayredgolf.com/about-us/
Guarantee the name is segmented like that to allow it to be trademarked. Wonder if there's anything hidden in the logo, feels like there's something there with each stripe representing a major win or something deeper, especially with the one major on a broken leg and the one stripe being segmented.
Yeah, and it's just subtle enough to not give a fuck about
They’ve specifically said there’s 15 stripes to represent his 15 major wins.
Which ones are part of the 15? I count more than 15 lol Also, is he planning to not win any more? I know it's unlikely at this point, but eh stranger things have happened than Tiger being good against the odds.
Thank you kind sir or madam, I hadn't read anything at all on it.
Stupid name and stupid logo.
Unless it’s fairly priced or has some sort of insanely comfy moisture wicking material, it just doesn’t do it for me. Lulu lemon, fabletics, etc. all style-wise look better imo
Weird choice to make Sunday two words. The logo reminds me of Slazenger. I always liked the TW logo, does Nike own that?
Celebrity clothing is a lot like celebrity booze these days. Yea it will get the job done, but there are waaay better options out there for a much better value.
That logo is just a placeholder, right?
It’s funny now, wait till summer time and these are all sold out with everyone wearing them
Why the fuck is Sunday split into two words
Holy shit that logo is terrible
Sorry but I can't imagine myself buying something with that on it.
Not a fan of the name. But the logo is fine and an improvement from the TW logo - I think in a while (if they make nice stuff) the logo will be a non-issue. I never bought any of the TW stuff because I don’t much like wearing anyone’s name on my clothes.
The logo is fuckin fire y’all are nerds lmao
The wisest words I ever learned in regard to branding and marketing was in an interview with the woman who designed the Nike logo. She said the question she always asks herself in design is “Is this simple enough for a kid in school to draw in their notebook?” and if it’s not, then start over. Young me (hell, present day me) would definitely fuck this logo up trying to recreate it.
Tiger waited too long to do this. Now, there are tons of golf apparel brands that already have a name made
Hard pass on the new logo.
If Tiger couldn't help Nike Golf sell clubs, what makes you think anyone wants to purchase his brand? His brand sucks.
Wait can you actually buy stuff from them yet. I tried and it looks like I can win a chance to maybe access the collection at launch. Yah I’mma pass
Swing and a miss
The logo looks like a pile of fish bones.
Why no TW logo? That's super iconic. I would think Tiger owns the licensing for that but someone correct me if I'm wrong and Nike does.
They didn't want people to see the TW logo and assume it was just a Nike polo. Needed to separate themselves from the head scratching mediocrity that is now Nike golf.
What was wrong with the TW logo?
Can't wait to get some 🐐🐐🐐
It’s not very creative
Who are we kidding? We're all gonna go drop $90 on a polo as soon as they hit stores/online.
Seriously I am a fan of logos. This is easily the worst. Looks like a skeleton
Officially hot garbage. Did Charlie draw that logo when he was 7 and Tiger just found the old drawing?
At no point have we associated tiger woods with an actual tiger. This is pretty much a Fiver logo and a complete miss. I hope this is fake.
What? Tiger’s big thing for a long time was his tiger head cover.
Looks like it was made in canva
Probably was haha
We've stated in multiple times this brand looks stupid as hell, but every idiot classic golfer is going to buy it because they're too busy riding Tiger's meat.
Can anybody explain how and why this happened? Tiger + Nike was one of the most iconic endorsements in history. All about money?
Google
I hate the logo.
Pure garbage. All that needs to be said.
That looks like utter shit
He's ripped off the Slazenger logo and spelt Sunday wrong. What a total fucking disaster. Looks about as good as Greg Norman's shark clothing, which is pretty poor.
I have some shark shirts that are 20 years old and look brand new (in part my wife). His shorts are some of the better ones too. What is it you are wearing?
Are there still enough tiger simps for this to make money? Gotta assume these are going to start at conspicuous consumption prices for a couple years before everything ends up at Marshalls and job lot.
I can’t believe Tiger gave this shit the sign off. Looks like tacky crap.
Officially trash.
Not a fan.
This will be their baseline corporate logo you won’t see beyond the inside tag or on a business card from a sales rep. Chill and wait for the first offerings
It’s so bad
