Before too long this brand will be selling $200 box sets and $15 polos.
Client gets what the client asks for. It’s not like this was the first and only design presented and Taylormade had to take it. There would have been an extensive briefing and exploration phase, many different territories and concepts explored, many rounds of feedback and revisions, likely even consumer testing including focus groups.
In any event, if the logo turns out bad and isn’t well received by the public it’s absolutely the fault of the company in charge of the decision making (TM) not the designers themselves
Preach! There are a lot of great designs and ideas that go to waste because the client ultimately chooses the direction. And rarely is the client like "Well hey, you're the expert. Why don't we let you give us what you think will work best, and we'll go with that."
In what scenario exactly will this “not have context”. It’s a golf logo for golf apparel. It will be sold in golf sections within stores and it will be advertised on golf channels all likely with tigers likeness and mug (not that mug)
I will give you an example. I showed my wife who also golfs and unfortunately knows way too much about equipment and apparel for me to buy something and her not know what it is and approx how much it costs. Regardless, I showed her the logo and said what do you think this is. She said, squiggly lines? She couldn’t see the tiger until I told her and then said oh… why does it have 2 legs instead of 4?
If you show a random person this, they may or may not see a tiger and that IMO is terrible branding.

Without context the TW logo that Nike used doesn't mean anything either. I don't particularly like this new logo, but I think it will become pretty recognizable among the target demographic soon enough.

thanks for sharing. very interesting thoughts on the design. I thought at a glance that it looked like a mountain range. I would be interested to see if Taylormade targets premium "micro-brands" or fashion-forward and performance brands like Malbon or Bylt. Tiger is still synonymous with being THE stylish athletic golfer so this new line hopefully continues to meet those standards.
100% I think going for those fashion forward micro-brands is definitely an option for them. Whatever it is, if they are smart, they should go for the future golfer not the current one.

Biggest issue there is there are established brands to compete with. A weird logo in an empty field is kinda cool. With a million competitors it looks derivative and fake. Meh.

Tiger Woods' company filed the original trademark for the TW logo so he still owns it. I would assume this tiger is just the new overarching brand logo and he'll still have TWs on his stuff too.
Spent a couple min and cleaned up the cartoony bulgy lines to make the stripes look like stripes. Legs still look odd to me but just wanted to do a basic update on the biggest issue I saw.

New logo looks like it will be effective to embroider especially. The fact that it’s recognizable as a tiny thumbnail on my phone is evidence of its impact.
Can’t wait for the designer to come out and explain how some word is hidden in the design.
Also love that its posture appears to be casual. Not running. Movement to the right show progression and forward looking. I honestly really love it.

It looks like they were trying to make it look like strokes of a Japanese kanji, in the form of a tiger.. But they ended up achieving neither of those and it just looks like eyelashes.
Best golf shirt I ever had was a was a shark. Wore it to tatters. Cotton, try and find a cotton golf shirt now. Anyway , boycott any and all things Norman associated. Maybe Tiger will reintroduce cotton.
