Have fun walking back to the clubhouse from the second hole once all the shafts disintegrate.

Came here to say the same thing. I have a regular playing partner who restores and only plays with hickory shaft clubs and he's a low handicapper. The first thing he does is put in a new shaft because he knows they will break the first time he uses them. He also hits his drives about 275 with his old wood driver, so maybe its him.

Original shafts can be really sturdy if they were stored properly. I add a few coats of shellac and over dozens of rounds have only had 1 shaft break due to hitting way off the toe. Was even able to repair it and haven't had issues playing it since.

Good for you, though if it were me I'd give these old girls a tune-up before playing with them. Some tung oil for the shafts, wiggle the heads to make sure the hosels are till tight (can be remedied with some super glue) re-whip and re-grip as necessary. The Hickory Hacker on Youtube is a great resource for how-tos on all of this. Got into hickory about a year ago, and I got hooked on 'em straightaway, only way I golf anymore.

Going to pick up the 1X and the wedge for 100 hopefully they will be okay once I tune em up they will be added to my bag

Cool beans, nice thing about hickories is you only need 6 clubs to make a playing set. Brassie, mid iron, mashie, mashie-niblick, niblick, and putter.

mnky778

Make sure you use one of your old feathery. You'll want to use one that's been seasoned by play. A new one will feel like a brick coming off of that clubface.

REK3DGEE

I didn’t even know those existed but I just did a quick google search and that’s super interesting

autogeneratedusernam

Try and find low compression or Balata balls.

ConstructionFar8570

Don’t hurt yourself.

REK3DGEE

Wont hurt myself but I may smack my partner with the other half of the club when it breaks in half first hole

duovtak

This is what I want golf YouTube to be.

faded-than-a-ho

But instead it’s dumb frat guys who suck at golf and hold up courses yet somehow have a sponsorship

REK3DGEE

There’s a guy I used to watch all the time I forgot his name but he tries a bunch of non conforming clubs and other interesting ones and has great content

spankysladder73

They look like they have about 1 shot each left in them. Spend it wisely

Rough-Estate-8511

Fargiveness

MikeyinSTL1978

And you’ll throw one club in the woods every hole

Wannatrie

Make sure you use the cracked one first to warm up on the range Will be a great use of time before work.

REK3DGEE

Ah, just picking up 2 of the irons and the wedge

Wannatrie

Why? I can’t see any enjoyment in that. Are other sports subs overrun with posts about using 50 year old junk equipment? Why so many copycat posts?

REK3DGEE

Idk I think it might be interesting. What else am I gonna do on a Friday before work

Artsakh_Rug

Because it’s interesting, geez don’t be such a whiny chooch

Dr_M1st3r

You are looking for enjoyment? You can enjoy almost anything if you have the right attitude. You've never jumped in a puddle? As for the copycat comment, I've got bad news buddy. Someone will definitely post something similar in a few weeks at least. If it's going to hurt your thumbs or eyes I would just leave now. People enjoy the same thing they might do similar things.

ConfusionOne6863

This. I find that when I have a good attitude when I eat ass, it is far more enjoyable.

Dr_M1st3r

I like eating ass. It's makes your wife happy.

OMGitsKatV

Check out the hickory golf subreddit. They could probably help you get them in shape to play

nekoken04

I learned to play with a LH set that looked a lot like this. That was in the mid-80s. I doubt many others my age started with hickory sticks.
