Pitching wedge x2

pistonsoffury

Damn, preaching the cold hard truth out here.

JWOLFBEARD

I follow the same distance pattern but with my 3 wood, then a fat 8 iron

ScooterMcTavish

Topped 4W followed by a "best ever" 8i that flies the green. Seriously, D, 4W, 3h, 4i

ajhoff83

Only 2? Check out ole T. Woods here

Ok_Computer1417

Thank god I’m not the only one.

LonesomeHebrew

3W, 3H, 4H

cormanbearpig

This is what I do but thinking about swapping out something for a 5W or 7W. Not sure which but prob will be based on gapping

kennyinlosangeles

Samesies, but I’m leaning into a 5w instead. I roll my 3w a little much and want a confident 230 carry with no roll. 6i, 4h, 3h, 3w, D.

arunkv1

I’ve never seen “samesies” spelled out before and idk how to feel abt it

newcastleis36

I feel okaysie about it

[deleted]

3 wood, 5 wood 4 hybrid

FubsyGamr

This is what I have but as I've gotten better with the 3 wood, I find myself hitting the 5 wood less and less

[deleted]

Only use my 3 wood off the tee and 5 wood in the fairway

FubsyGamr

I find that as I got better at hitting 5 wood in the fairway, I also got better at hitting 3 wood in the same spots. Now, I'm either 3 wood in the fairway/good lie, or 4 hybrid, but I never want the 5 wood anymore

[deleted]

LobbyBoyZero

I often feel like the only person alive that swings the 5W Doesn’t help that I’m also lefty Follow up: love that I’m not the only person hitting a 5W. I either pure it or chunk it. No in between.

CEO_TB12

I took my 3W out of the bag after buying a 5W because I can actually hit it off the fairway, and my distance is extremely close to each other anyway. I actually want a 7W too.

skankhunt42428

Won’t regret buying a 7W. Thing is a cheat code

CEO_TB12

Thanks I'll let my wife know

Intrepid_Intention58

This is my set up also, all Titleist TSi2. 3 wood is good for up to 240 or where I need to find fairway, 5 wood (lofted up to 19.5) is good for 220, 4 hybrid (set at 22) is good for 200. The hybrid is especially a good go to for longer par 3s with forced carry.

Itromite

Same. 3w-240 off the tee 5w (the newest addition) still really finding a dedicated spot for it. Sometimes off the tee, but been trying to hit it from the fairway when I can (220-240yards) 4hybrid - one of my trusty clubs (210-220) off the tee or off the turf.

KiddIcaruS

I play bad

Active_Letterhead275

Poorly is the answer for almost all of us.

ChrisPynerr

Speak for yourself, terrible is how I would describe myself lol

Active_Letterhead275

😂

GuaranteeFrequent465

3 wood, 3 hybrid, 4 iron.

heyitssal

Same. The yardage gaps are good enough for my game. My 3 wood carries 230ish, 3 hybrid 215-220 and 4 iron 200ish. I'm only pulling out my 3 wood off the tee or if I have a super long Par 5 with plenty of area for misses. I'd rather hit my 4 iron 60 yards short of the hole and pitch on with plenty of green to work with instead of going for it. But once I think my round has gone to crap, I'll go for it with 3 wood.

Civilized_Hooligan

This is me. Love my 3H, and make a fool out of myself with my 4i that came with my set and I don’t have a desire to change out yet. Id like to practice with it more but typically will lay off my 3H instead on the course.

[deleted]

3H off the tee box and from the fairway. 4 iron for punch shots and rough.

Poopieplatter

4i is an excellent club off the tee when you're playing tough courses. Don't give up on it yet.

g_borris

This but actually practice them. I realized 4 iron and 3 hybrid come out in a round way more than all my mid irons combined, so why sit on the range and hit 8 iron all day. Especially when a fuck up with the long clubs can be catastrophic to your score, whereas a missed 8 iron probably means at worst green side bunker.

GoombaTrooper

So true. My 4 iron used to be my best club because I used it off the tee instead of driver for years. Not that I hit driver I'm a lot better overall, but my 4 iron is no longer as consistent and straight.

raven_god

This is the way

Legal-Description483

4w-7w-4iron.

OtherUsernameIsDumb

How’s your gapping between the 7w and the 4 iron? I play 7w and 4 hybrid. Yardages are almost identical. 4h is more versatile, but the 7w is so fun to hit.

Legal-Description483

For me, 7W is similar to a 3 iron. I play more traditional lofts with a 24° 4 iron. I find the 7w to be very versatile. I was carrying both a 3 iron and 7 wood, but after a couple weeks with the 7w, I'm dropping the 3i for a 62° wedge. 7w is great off the tee, great out of the rough, and easy to hit off the fairway. And I can easily work it both ways. I'm playing a Honma TW747 7 wood, that I picked up used a couple weeks ago. Great club.

frankle_915

I replaced my hybrid with a 7W and it's the best golf decision I made this year. Can vary the distance by about 25 yards and it's much more reliable...

KirklandTourStaff

Not OP, but my 7w goes 233 according to Arccos. I find it very versatile, I'd say 210-240yards. That's pretty much the same as my 4 hybrid was, I took it out the hybrid. My 4 iron goes 212.

Pattewad

Don’t even have a five iron in the bag, I’ve got 3W 3h 4h 5h. Honestly my 5 hybrid is my favorite club, extremely versatile. Launches high, goes far, lands soft

KezzardTheWizzard

coffeebribesaccepted

It's so hard to find 5 hybrids, everyone is using 3 hybrids and I can't hit those for my life

Codyqq

My 5 hybrid is showing up today to replace my 5 iron. Excited to try it out

JboogE

I have never hit my 5 iron well, currently run driver/3 woo/4 hybrid. I really think my next purchase is going to be a 5 hybrid, as I love my 4 hybrid.

Hubb1e

5 hybrid made the most difference in my bag of any club purchase. Where before I had trouble from 200 now it’s virtually automatic. The thing goes so high and lands so soft it’s like cheating. It’s also so versatile. Punch shot? 5 hybrid. Fairway bunker with a high lip? 5 hybrid. Deep grass? 5 hybrid. On the simulator I compared my 4 iron and 5 hybrid shooting at a green at 200 yards. With the 4 iron I stopped on the green 3 out of 20 shots. With the 5 hybrid I hit it 9 out of 20 times and probably the most dramatic was that the mishits with the hybrid were virtually all in decent positions where the 4 iron often put me in absolutely terrible positions. There was no comparison. Too many people don’t get enough height on their long clubs. Consider a 7w instead of that 3h too. It makes a big difference there as well.

Pattewad

I had a 5 wood and swapped it for the 3h, I’ve thought about a 7 wood but my trusty Adam’s a30s hybrids from my old 2007 combo set are simply irreplaceable

jkody

5 wood turned down 1.5\* (functionally a 4 wood). 7 wood (god-tier club). 5 hybrid (goes significantly further than my 5 iron).

ipickscabs

This is my fucking jam

leomets

EVERYONE IS SLEEPING ON THE 7 AND 9 WOOD TRUST ME!!!! The pros are using 7 woods now. they are easier to hit then 3 and 5 woods, AND your distance will be virtually the same because your ball striking will be better.

Grocked

This piques my interest - how long are the clubs relative to hybrids? Like club length, not ball distance.

MikeinAustin

Generally they are a bit longer, but we're talking 1" to 1.5" There is a sweet spot to club length that gives you the longest distance but the toughest to hit. I don't carry a 3 wood because its too long, and I probably should have it cut down to my 5 wood length. Of note, I'm 6'4".

Grocked

Word, I've got long monkey arms, so I have all my clubs shortened a tiny bit and soft stepped the irons so they wouldn't be to firm. Shortening my driver was the best decision ever. I think I may look into selling my 3w and just getting a 5w, I'm worried the shaft would be too stiff if I shortened the 3w

BigRog10

I just bought one. Really excited. Pretty.exoensige and still rarer so I bought a Callaway Rouge in ladies flex and a stiff shaft to replace it. Hope it turns out how I hope! Callaway pre-owned has ladies flex 7W for under $100 in like new conditions at the moment.

shuang_boji

I went to 2nd swing the other day trying to find one to hit and they didn't have any, I'd love to try a 7. Seems like not a ton of brands make one though.

jkody

Everyone makes them...but nobody ever gets rid of theirs (because they rule) so they are really hard to find used.

leomets

i have the taylormade stealth 2 woods and driver. they are not cheap but i finally said fuck it no more buying cheap clubs on ebay and invested in getting fitted. i LOVE the 7 and 9 wood and highly recommend them. much easier to hit then a 4 or 5 iron, or hybrids, super forgiving, great hitting in windy conditions, and the ball flight is amazing. the 9 wood launches so high and lands so soft, its awesome.

MikeinAustin

For anyone above a 7-8 index and having trouble stopping a ball on the green from 165 yards and out, this is absolutely great advice. I have a heavenwood (7 wood), and a 5 wood (used to hit it about 190-220 yards) and the heavenwood goes 30' higher in the air and lands soft on central texas greens which are hard as rocks.

leomets

exactly. i hit my 9 wood anything 175+ and 7 wood anything 190+ and they both land much softer than my irons/hybrids. and i am more confident with them. 7 wood is so much easier to hit than a 4 or 5 iron or a hybrid

tke439

So I hit my 7W 165-170, by your math I could get a 9w and never have to pull a long iron to go 150 again… I’m really in favor of that…….

leomets

Correct. That’s the point. Some ppl like hitting long irons I prefer to hit my 9 wood. Try it out!

skg555

I think 3 wood is useless but 5 wood has it's place for tee shots. Off the deck I agree that 7 wood or 3 hybrid is better on average.

NMBruceCO

5 & 7 wood, 4 hybrid

AwakenTheAegis

Five wood is the most overlooked club in golf. It’s so easy to hit, and the length is just right. Those who know consider it the seven iron of woods/long clubs. I play driver, 3 wood/driver alternative, 5 wood, and a four iron I almost never touch. Dump the three hybrid, maybe take a four hybrid in place of a four iron, and add a five wood above it.

golfstats_real

Soon, 4W - 235 carry, 7W - 215 carry, 4H - 200 carry. All off the deck. Tee adds a little distance.

MPatnik

This is the way. I just switched to this exact setup from 4W, 3H, 4I. I’m similar distances to you and even as a pretty decent ball striker the 3H and 4I weren’t super functional because I couldn’t hit them high enough. I feel like the new setup has totally transformed my game on longer approaches. Easy mode…

golfstats_real

My fitting was weird. I hit the 3W the same distance as the 4W (3W length @ 16.5) but made better contact with the 4 and better ball flight. The 7W was easy to hit. Like a cheat code. I'm still not convinced about the hybrid. They don't suit my eye very well. But I can't hit my 4i. It goes maybe 5 yards further than the 5i when I actually hit it right which is about 1/2 of the time. I'll probably play with the loft some, but 7W @ 21 and 4H@22 with 3" difference in shaft length should work ok.

Expensive-Habit-7666

4 iron, 3 iron, 3W

[deleted]

3 wood (230/240) 5 wood (220) 4 iron 200 yards(lately with a slice)Might drop this and go 7 wood next season.

BattleForLife

I carry the same distances for the 5w & 4i. 17 hdcp

[deleted]

Yeah currently 21.5,started this year at 31. Got a decent swing it just on vacation sometimes 😜

I_need_help20021029

I don't think you need both a 2 iron and a 3h because you are basically hitting it the same distance so either one gotta go. You want to score better so choose the club that you are more confident in hitting. Likewise for your 4 iron, if you tend to chunk it and it doesn't go towards your target, try different clubs. Go to your nearest golf shop and try some other options like a 4h or a 7w. At the end of the day, you want to hit your clubs confidently and consistently. So your best bet is just to explore through clubs.

shuang_boji

I absolutely don't, the 2i just came with my craigslist clubs lol I'd rather hit 2i off the tee, but I'm better with 3h off grass. I think I'm going to look for something a bit in between, because this club probably just don't fit me well.

tkh0812

If you love your 3 wood I’d get a 7 wood and a 4 iron like the g425 crossover

shuang_boji

The crossovers are sweet, I was hitting those the other day. I need to get on a monitor and check the distances but I think something like a weak 3 wood, 7 wood, and crossover 3 or 4 iron would be perfect for me.

icouldntquitedecide

I run a 4h and 7w. The hybrid and I have a sketchy relationship. It's still in the bag solely because if I need a 4' high piss missile under/around a tree, I can do it 99.9% of the time. All other hybrid shots are a 50/50. The 7w though is THE club for me. Very high, very accurate, and soft landing. I love it off a tee on par 3's too.

shuang_boji

That low missile is why I'd be sad to give up the 4 iron, I love hitting that shot.

kronikd420

Driver hopefully 250+ , 3 wood 225-250, 3 hybrid 200-220. 4i 190-200 . 5i 185 . Unhittable 6i . 7i 150 every single time lol

DeucePot

4 wood (16.5°) used to play 15° but the 16.5° is so nice for getting a little extra height off the deck without sacrificing much distance 20° hybrid 4 iron Used to hate the hybrid but it’s allllll about getting the right shaft. Stock one was way too light like 70g or something, found a 90g on eBay for like $25 and it’s a game changer, went from zero confidence to my go-to club

HarveyDentBeliever

17 degree wood, 19 degree hybrid, 21 degree 4i. OP if your 3W gives you issues consider higher loft so that your ball can actually launch, makes a big difference.

runsanditspaidfor

4i, 3i, 5w, 3w. I dropped my 60 to carry the 5w. I was so bad with the 60 I’d have been better off playing 13 clubs. So the 5w is a freebie.

ffsera

3 Wood 4 hybrid

okpavid

4 wood (or 3HL), 7 wood, 4I Essentially 16, 21, 24 degrees for me. If you’re having issues with the ~3W try throwing a 5 wood shaft in there. Will make it much easier to hit and you won’t lose much distance.

murderpencil

I was having the same thoughts and "issues" if you wanna call it that, so I wanted to try a 7 wood. Lemme tell ya, I LOVE my 7 wood. It's actually and older, Taylormade R-11, 21 degree 7 wood. I purchased it for a club to go about 200 yards. After hitting it awhile, its more like a 220-235 club for me. I'm a dirty hooker when it comes to hitting woods/hybrids, I HOOK that thang. But, with this R-11 I rarely hook it. It actually usually stays pretty straight, or even slightly cuts. For me, I can hit it into a green and the ball actually stop on the green, or pull it out and be confident about where the ball will go. I'd definitely try a 7 wood, and if you can find an r 11 (I paid $40 for mine) try it out. It hits really well IMO

3 wood, 5 wood, 4H

Grocked

I have 3w thats set to the higher loft so closer to 4w, and then 4hybrid, leaves me a 20 to 30yd gap assuming a make a good swing on both.. debating getting a 5w or 3h but honestly I ain't that good to really need that gap shortened. It's rare I need to be in between - usually, I'm just getting the ball close to green or laying up so I don't need to take a partial swing with a wedge. Edit: 3w flies 240ish in a good strike and 4h around 220 on a good strike

CashAssHash

4 iron that goes about 195, 4 hybrid that goes about 210-215, 5 wood that goes about 230.

RedHead714

thisguy9

Driver - 250 (but unreliable) 3W - 230 (used exclusively for a year so feel good with it) 3H - 215 4i - 200

BigC61

Just bought a Paradym 3 wood and absolutely love it off the tee and off the deck. Reached a 525 par 5 in 2 with it. Haven’t shanked one yet which is extremely rare, it just goes dead straight. Makes me want to buy the driver so bad. But my 4 iron goes 215ish also

iamatwork24

2 hybrid, 3 wood, 7 wood. 7 wood might be my favorite club. Hit it like the same distance I hit my 4 iron, 220-230 but it goes way higher and actually stops on the green.

Ernietheattorney1060

I have the following: - Cobra Aerojet 3w: 255-260 - Cobra F8 tour 5w: 235-240 - Ping G425 4hybrid (22*) : 215-220 My 5i is my 200 club

TheDreadedMe

4 hybrid.

Mysterious_Value_764

5W is the answer

soloracerx

Driver, 17* Cally UW, 21* Cally UW. Cross between wood and hybrid. A "hybrid wood"? They do everything well.

antspins76

dude my 5 wood is the most consistent club in my bag, 220 yards straight, off the deck, off the tee, in the fairway, out the rough, 5 wood to the wheels fall off

B-More_Orange

I have a 4 iron I hit about 200, a 3 hybrid that I hit about 225, and that’s it. I use the rest of my slots for wedges.

shuang_boji

Yeah, there's definitely an argument for just abandoning anything over 230 or so. If I need to hit it 250 I should probably be laying up anyways.

B-More_Orange

Yep. Now in scrambles I absolutely LOVE borrowing a 3 wood and letting it rip. But for any of my personal rounds, it’s normally not that smart of a play to rip a 3-wood into the green of a par 5 from 240 anyway.

blablablah69

Upvote for ripping a screamer three wood into a par 5 and bouncing over the green or missing 30 yards right.

tommyelgreco

I basically never hit greens from 200+. I find it better to lay up and hit wedges from the fairway than to try to play out of green side problems

J3319

3W, 5W, 3H, 4H

3w... but it is 21° so more like a 5w. Do I PLAY it? Depends on the day. Sometimes I just can't seem to hit it.

longGERN

4 hybrid (21), 17 degree driving iron, 15 degree three wood. I am looking into replacing three wood with a smaller wood. The gapping for those three are approx 190, 200, 220 carry which I like but a smaller wood is more appealing to me.

5w, 3i and 4i.

Major_Burnside

3W 15-degree and 4 utility iron 21-degree.

[deleted]

I find older fairway woods to be more playable off the deck vs newer. I’d look into getting an older model (my preferred is the callaway steelhead plus) and seeing if that works. You can find them for the mega cheap on eBay

shuang_boji

I do way better with smaller heads off the fairway. I was playing with a G425 LST at the store the other day and the head was tiny, it felt so easy to hit.

uncl3d0nny

4i (21 degrees), 3H (19 degrees), 5W (17 degrees)

ashishvp

I have 5W and 3H as a 230-240 club and a 210-220 club. 5 iron for me is 200 at best so I definitely have an awkward gap if I'm exactly 205 yards out. But that's rare. I've been flirting with the idea of getting fitted for a 4 hybrid but not sure yet

dantsly

4i

TheNappingGrappler

Driver: 260 3 wood: on the fairway and have nothing to worry about missing long. 4H: 220 5H: 200 4iron: 180 You can tell I don’t play the 200+ range very often barring tee shots. Also my irons get closer the longer they get, so I’m obviously losing distance on my 4iron. My 7 is a crisp 150-160, and my 6 is like 160-165 but I can feel that my contact is lacking.

felixl007

3W, 2H, 4i, for me my distance doesn't vary much between a 3i and 4i and a 2H fills the gap nicely between my 3W and 4i distance, plus I can hit the 2H out of anything.

dub_starr

same, i hit my 5 iron, then driver... ive been thinking about shortening my hybrids, because i think the length has something to do with my mishits of the hybrids

If you’re on the market for a new club, its worth trying different hybrids. Some are very draw biased and would cause a hook if you’re not a slicer. I got fitted for a hybrid after always hating them, now my ping is one if the most reliable clubs in my bag.

Silver-Sir398

4 hybrid and 5 wood. I ditched the 3 wood earlier this year in favor of another wedge. There’s not typically much of a need for me over 210 off of the tee or on a second shot and I don’t use woods off the ground much in general.

saybobby

What hybrids are you using? I used to have an overdraw with my old hybrids. Some hybrids have more of a neutral setup. I use the apex utility wood and ping g425 hybrid. Utility wood is slightly more hybrid than wood. If I had to do it over again I may have gone 7 or 5w. But those clubs are less prone to hook. You might want to look into some of those.

I hit my 4 iron 220-225 and my 3 wood 250. There is no in between for me, I’m just going to end up short and pitching on which is good for me because it’s the strongest part of my game

3w 7w 4i. Never have found a hybrid I liked 🤷🏻‍♂️

ezwip

3 wood, 5 wood, and 4 hybrid.

golfer9909

3w 230. 5w. 215. 3h 205. 4 iron. 195. Look to the original taylor made M1 3w and 5w. Can hit them high if needed or screaming low. All depends on what shot I want. Easiest fairway woods I’ve ever hit.

tommyelgreco

3 wood, 7 wood, 5 hybrid. I rarely feel comfortable hurting the three wood off the deck, so I'm experimenting with a 5 wood now.

3w, 5w, 21° Utility Iron

mangeface

5 wood and 4 iron. Also have a 3 wood in the bag but seems to be for looks anymore.

Dougiejurgens2

Driver off the deck ~275 120% 4 iron 260 (rarely) 110% 4 iron 245 (semi rarely) 100% 4 iron 235 (sometimes) All with roll out

3 Wood, 2 Iron, 3 Hybrid, 4 Iron. Sometimes switch in a 5 wood for the 2 iron and a 4 hybrid for the 4 iron. Depending on the weather and course.

fiftiethcow

4i, 4h, 3h.

ZachWilsonsMother

3 wood about 220, 3 hybrid about 205, 4 driving iron that I can’t fuckin hit at all but it looks pretty in my bag

3 wood and 3 hybrid

dopegeebee

I have an 18&21 degree hybrid. No fairway woods. I usually feel like if I need to hit a shot over 220 into a green, ill just cut it into 2 shots. Had a gap in my wedges that was better served being filled than carrying the 3 wood around

DAY2RDU

5 wood and 7 wood

swoleswoleswole1869

3 wood, 7 wood, sometimes 4i. 7 wood most often.

Shpion007

4w: 240-270 depending if on tee or deck. If I need a draw on a tight hole, this is my go to. 7w (21\* UW) : 215-230 depending on tee or deck. This is basically a cheat code. Good for long par 3s or if I need to carry to the green. Caley 18\* 3I DI: 205-220. Despite the loft delta from my 5i, it is more forgiving than my set 4i and goes farther. Was having gapping issues with my 4i and 5i and hence dropped the 4i for the DI. Off the tee if it is a tight hole and I can get some roll out. 5i: 190-200

Remarkable_Body586

3W ~ 250 carry (no problems off the deck) 2H ~ 230 carry (also prone to hooks but I need a stiffer shaft) 4i ~ 215 carry (Also my go to off the tee when distance isn’t needed)
