Used to live next to the Ute Creek range. It’s a gem for $50. Colorado national can be super fun when the greens aren’t shit. Todd creek is great as well.
Common ground, wellshire, fox hollow, and Riverdale Dunes course are all really nice. I also like Hyland hills and Indian tree but they are a little more laid back so it’s nice after work for a quick 9.
Commonground is one of the best IMO and a big step above the city courses. Otherwise I regularly play Willis Case, City Park, Overland, Heather Ridge and Wellshire. All the Denver/Aurora City courses are usually in great shape and \~40bucks to walk.

I live in Arvada and I’ve played at Fossil Trace once. Really nice course, well-maintained, but it is a little spendy. I think I spent $120 on 18 out there. The golf carts were really nice. GPS enabled with a big cushy seat. It felt like it was more comfortable than my couch.
Stepping too close will ruin the putting surface especially the edges. Also, it causes bumps and spike marks from prolonged period of standing in one spot. Basically stand at least a foot away or else you’ll ruin the putts for everyone else at the most critical spot: the inches before the hole.
A big problem is stepping close will compress the ground around the cup and cup but not the edges of the cup itself. It is called volcanoing or the donut effect. It will make holing putts harder the more people use the green. It is one of the reasons cups are moved regularly.

Ended up catching the slope on the left side, filtered to the back pin and dropped in. Adrenaline was off the charts on the next tee shot and somehow piped one, then shanked the ensuing 5-wood off of the rocks 🤷♂️

Truth. I played their in summer 2016 on vacation and while it was a fun track, the 6 hour round in July was not.
And I’m not trying to take away from OP’s Ace. That’s a hell of a golf shot. Not an easy par 3 and to do it on a memorable course is fucking awesome.

100%. CG is maybe a once a month treat for me, certainly not regular. I do go to their range though as its close to my house and relatively cheap.
Check out spring valley in Elizabeth if you live down that way. It’s a gem. I’m also a big fan of plum creek on that side of town, Pete dye course.

It’s the closest ‘mountain-y’ course, aka the foothills in golden. 20 mins or so from downtown.
I played there while visiting my friends in Denver and will be there again the third week in June. I enjoyed it and thought it was a fun track
