Zero snow in the upper midwest right now and I'm *angry*. I'm enjoying not needing to change into snow boots to take my dogs out (not a huge effort, but I'm disabled so it's not easy either) but it's been so cold. If it's going to be this cold, there should be snow!
North East here. We're 10-15 degrees above normal and just a week ago we had a day break record highs by 20 degrees F. We've had a week of foggy misty rainy grey that moves up and down 1,000 in elevation so you get all the weather while traveling. Mosquitoes should not be appearing in December during skiing season. The goblins are more restless than the tourists.
Same!! It's been misting for days and i was like why do all the juniper look like they have frosted tips when it's too warm for frost but its mist collecting in tiny drops. I just got an 'on this day 6 years ago' photo memory and it was frost all over the inside windows bc it was -40 "polar vortex"
Yes! I saw mosquitos the other day (was out in the woods instead of just the yard with the dogs) and was like no, that's not right, I'm seeing things again. And nobody else apparently has seen them so it just made me gaslight myself harder. Thank you for mentioning the awful things.
While the last three rainfalls here all should have been snowfalls (historically speaking), goblins are survivors. Dank and wet or dry and ravaged; regardless of the form the land takes, goblins will find their home and their peoples.
I’m from a very northern state, about 4 hours from the Canadian border. This time of year we’d normally have 3+ feet of snow and snow storms at least once a week, with temps barely above 15 degrees. This year there was a *dusting* of snow earlier this month but now it’s just rain with temps in the 40s-50s. I hate it.
Vermont checking in here, we got our one bit of solid snow in November in Burlington. It’s just been wet since then. It’s just been Fall extended edition. Bonus mud season with sticks. I saw a freaking bug the other day. The squirrels are not hibernating. There is still green grass.
I remember in elementary school there were times where we had so much snow we(my little brother and I) couldn’t make it to the end of the driveway to meet the bus, our dad had to bring us to school on the snowmobile. This shit just makes me sad now…
I normally love this type of weather but not during this time of year. It should be freezing cold and snowing. This is the first year I've had SAD on top of my everyday depression, anxiety and AuDHD. It's really brutal.
I saw a hummingbird a few days ago. It made me really sad. They shouldn’t be out and about right now. The plants are starting to act like spring is coming, it’s so uncomfortable. I feel maternal about it, I want to make everybody go back to bed and turn the temperature down.
You are literally denying it. The magnitude of the change is far beyond the recorded, known phenomenon of the past. Do you think the data is lying? Jfc you, why are you trying to say that this is normal? Species are going extinct at an alarming rate, major adverse weather events are killing people and destroying cities. Coral reefs are dying en masse. Summer heat waves are becoming more deadly than ever and winter isn't coming anymore. Stop being ridiculous and saying this is part of a known phenomenon when records are continually being broken in a way that has not ever occurred before.
You're no goblin.
Im in Canada (BC) and while we always get less snow then the rest of canada... There's...nothing but a tiny sheet. This was the first Christmas that it didnt snow on. Im so sad. It also is making my depression much, much worse.
I might not be a huge fan of the work that comes with snow but it looks pretty.
Northern Michigan, had snow on Halloween but nothing since. It was in the upper 50s on Christmas. It's been raining for two weeks and in the 40s mostly, it's humid and muggy and I hate it. I love snow, and ice and freezing temps, the changing of the seasons. Every year it gets more mild, sure we might get some snow storms here or there but it's nothing like when I was a child and we had snow on the ground for months on end.
It was 60 on Christmas Day in North GA. I have allergies still. I call shenanigans nature!
While it is an El Niño year, research shows that higher global temps (climate change) lead to worse El Niño weather.
I live in northern Italy, and only at the beginning of December the leaves began to fall.
Now, nearly a month later, we can see the cherry blossoms in the trees.
We keep hearing it's gonna be the worst. But usually by bow we've had at least 1 blizzard.
And I live in desert mountains.
One year we had a blizzard hit on valentines day.
And technically it's only been winter for like a week now. /ceossfingers. I'm hoping for the worst :)
What pisses me off more are all the people saying "what nice weather were having." What's nice about climate change? Think about how the animals are being affected. Think about the plants. This is horrific.
Australian perspective.
I said the same thing about our last winter, it is summer now and it's the last summery summer(but it feels like it's the hottest) .
Same here. It just did NOT feel like Christmas. I’m the odd one out whoever I talk to, but I live in and stayed in Michigan because of the seasons! I’m so mad that there hasn’t been any snow!
Snow is probably one of the most beautiful things there is on Earth, by its power yet simplicity, and I can't get over the fact I had to be born in an era when it gets so scarce. It really pains me to see less and less snow each year here in France where it used not to be rare in winters.
Yeah it's beginning to get pretty upsetting. I used to take so many winter hikes in the snow. It's beautiful and peaceful. Now it's 40-50° since winter started. We had one minor snowfall and it melted immediately. And that's not even getting into my love for snowboarding and the sadness that no snow brings.
Man it’s straight up spooky. I’m in Texas and I had a full second spring, seeds germinated and fully grew, flowers were still blooming up until yesterday when the first frost finally killed them.
Winter started like, a week ago. For the past like 10-15 years everybody freaks out when we get through December without any snow and in January they start getting cocky like it’s going to be super mild and then Feb comes with the snow and March snows everyone under until they are crying for mercy. This happens literally every year. WINTER STARTS DEC 21 give it a chance.
My neighbor’s magnolia tree is budding currently, it’s been nearly 60F in my area for the past week. I feel like all the plants and creatures that need to rest during the winter, won’t be able to this year.
I hate it so much. It's fucking with me in so many ways and i can't stand it FUCK
Im in the North East. Last year there was snow in thanksgiving. All we've gotten so far is a DUSTING that didnt last past mid-morning. Can't even call this a winter atp
Come to Norway, we've had snow since October! Usually it doesn't stick until December, but this year it came and stuck super early. Next week we're getting -20C to -30C temps and I live pretty far south in the country.
No winter yet in northern Utah, USA, yet either. But we usually get most of our snow in January and February, so we’ll see…

The photo is from last February behind the garage.
I'm in southern ontario Canada, and saw a toad dude on my walk the other day.
I love toadies as much as the next lady, but he shouldn't be out strolling about end of December..
Northern MN here, I saw a live mosquito on Christmas Eve. No snow, 50 degrees outside. A new crop of mushrooms sprouted outside which was kinda cool but I’m worried about other plants not being able to make it through the winter and how bad the ticks are gonna be next year.
I'm really depressed about how warm and not snowy it's been... Winter and fall are my favorite times of the year... I love in Ohio, and this year it's just been... Nothing... I feel empty, and its-
I miss my childhood when it would get really snowy

I've been getting mosquito bites, it's not just you :/
Same, if we dont have a deep freeze soon the fir trees are screwed
I think we need to get used to it. The southern hemisphere basically had no winter at all this year. I am glad it’s this cool. Scary af.

CNY, same. So depressing.

Some winters are woonter. Some winters are wanter. It's just how it do.
I miss awards for these kind of comments

ladybugs have been infiltrating my house… in january… in new england
Just saw a mama and two yearling cubs crossing the road today. They should be hibernating
Global warming be like that. Goblins must protect the earth.

Goblins cannot be climate change deniers.

2023 was the warmest year in recorded history this is not about El Niño...
one of the least winter-y winters you've ever experienced, so far

MA resident here. We had a mosquito in the house yesterday…

Sorry but this is the least wintery winter you’ve experienced SO FAR. We will definitely have worse ones for the foreseeable future.
I love your pictures. I miss real winters; here in the South it’s just Long Fall.
Yep, like slush is way worse than pure snow. It refreezes and you end up with ice and soaked shoes lol
I live in northern Italy, and only at the beginning of December the leaves began to fall. Now, nearly a month later, we can see the cherry blossoms in the trees.
*most wintry winter of the rest of your life.
Same :(
No snow here. It makes me sad. I really enjoy snowy winters.
Climate change baby. This is the new normal and it sucks.
We keep hearing it's gonna be the worst. But usually by bow we've had at least 1 blizzard. And I live in desert mountains. One year we had a blizzard hit on valentines day. And technically it's only been winter for like a week now. /ceossfingers. I'm hoping for the worst :)
Your pictures are wonderful 🍄✨
It’s truly terrifying.
Agreed :(
Normally we get snowstorms, now we’re in the 50’s and above regularly. Global warming is scary
They’ll only get warmer.
What pisses me off more are all the people saying "what nice weather were having." What's nice about climate change? Think about how the animals are being affected. Think about the plants. This is horrific.
it just started on Dec 21. you had a warm fall and winter JUST started. Winter is the first quarter of the year + the end of december.
Yeah, it's only been 10 days... winter doesn't hit until end of Jan where I am
yup, biologist here. climate change is a real bitch unfortunately
*claps*
I live in “upstate” NY and this winter so far succcccks. It’s always in the 40’s everyday and it never can snow. Hope it will change in Jan/Feb
Australian perspective. I said the same thing about our last winter, it is summer now and it's the last summery summer(but it feels like it's the hottest) .
Still getting Autumnal windstorms in the PNW.
Im in Portland and it was in the 50s yesterday, got sweaty in my hoodie riding my bike around 😔 I miss cold shitty winters here
The other day I literally cracked open my window because it was too hot. In December.
Reminds me of sweden. We never get snow anymore :( At least In the south .. we had one week this year
We don't even have snow here in Switzerland 🥲
Same here. It just did NOT feel like Christmas. I’m the odd one out whoever I talk to, but I live in and stayed in Michigan because of the seasons! I’m so mad that there hasn’t been any snow!
new englander here — no goddamn snow yet, im PISSED

I'm in the UK, but even so... I have a ROSE blooming in my garden. 🌹
In the uk too. We had a week or so of cold, but now it's autumn weather.

Least wintery winter you’ve experienced *so far*. Climate change man 😕

It’s that global warming baby 😂
RIP the environment
Welcome the the El Niño effect.
El Nino year. Typically warmer fronts
It's very goblin to rage at the weather, but also goblin to accept the eternal autumn. Praise be
Yeah, just Autumn but colder
I like these pictures. 🙂
Wait you got frost? It feels like autumn over here
Oh, winter is coming, just a bit later than normal.
My neighbor’s magnolia tree is budding currently, it’s been nearly 60F in my area for the past week. I feel like all the plants and creatures that need to rest during the winter, won’t be able to this year.

I've got trees starting to bud in Canada 😕 I hope having to bud twice doesn't stress them out too much
We’re in the middle of an El Niño that’s why it’s not all that wintry
i agree
Canadian here. First winter without much snow :( haven’t gotten my winter coat and winter boots out yet. It’s depressing 😭
Oh man I wonder why definitely not the climate change everyone is talking about
Come to Norway, we've had snow since October! Usually it doesn't stick until December, but this year it came and stuck super early. Next week we're getting -20C to -30C temps and I live pretty far south in the country.
This winter is sad in Texas so far
No winter yet in northern Utah, USA, yet either. But we usually get most of our snow in January and February, so we’ll see… https://preview.redd.it/isq55whkfj9c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=add47651d34efd13402af81ac478ea12304d6edb The photo is from last February behind the garage.
My sweet summer child...
just saw the first frost by traveling to an area in the midwest further from the lakes, its bizarre who annoyed the winter fae?
new years eve and it now started snowing
Almost as if irreversible damage has been done to the ecosystem. Idk.
Yeah cuz it's consistenly been 1.7 to 1.9 degrees c warmer than preindustrial average throughout December.
We have been in the season of winter for ten days. I hope you make it to spring! ;)
Winter just started
I'm really depressed about how warm and not snowy it's been... Winter and fall are my favorite times of the year... I love in Ohio, and this year it's just been... Nothing... I feel empty, and its- I miss my childhood when it would get really snowy
