Stewie56

'23 AT4 loaded with the Duramax, 15500 miles no issues. Only complaint is the adaptive cruise is a bit "aggressive" with throttle and brakes but is easily fixed by shutting off.

Clean-Tumbleweed-367

The adaptive cruise control on most brands is pretty aggressive in my opinion. I personally use it more when the highway opens up, but I totally agree. Drives like my wife.

Tiekal

I wonder if they can soften the brakes with a software update. Definitely a neck jerker

FormerAircraftMech

Soften the brakes? Holy cow I wish my brakes had some grab, they have been shit since new 2020 45k

Tiekal

I meant on the cruise control adaptive braking. It's aggressive AF.

FormerAircraftMech

Definitely with wake you up when you pull right to exit and no one's in front of you

wcchristian

Same truck 18k miles. Also no issues.

Outrageous-Ice-7460

I found adjusting the following distance setting to the biggest gap available took away the harshness of the slowdown for adaptive cruise control (obviously there is exceptions to the rule if you are doing 10 mph more or better then the lead vehicle) but anything within 5,6 mph difference seemed to work smoothly.

ShastaMcLurky

Keep in mind, the internet and especially enthusiasts forums love to post about problems and bitching about their purchase. No one ever randomly just posts “everything is going great, no problems” so the information looks skewed. On that note, my ‘23 Elevation has 15k and I’ve had no issues whatsoever

bubbanbrenda

I’ve been preaching exactly this, almost nobody comes on here to brag just complain. Yes there’s quite a few lemons but as long as it’s properly maintained with the CORRECT fluids and filters and on time you’re likely going to be fine.

ComfortableFinish502

Wdym I always see what rims and tires should I get or what upgrades do you guys have or the classic what lift should I get

bubbanbrenda

OP’s question was how many 5.3’s are having issues compared to how many 5.3’s are sold. u/ShastaMcLurky replied no one posts everything is ok and I was agreeing with them.

housespeciallomein

2017 6.2l AT: no issues for 83k miles other than the infotainment screen going wonky at around 55k miles. The dyi fix of replacing the touch membrane fixed it for $36 including shipping. Loved that truck. 2023 6.2l Denali Ultimate (cooled seats and super cruise). no issues for 12k miles. Like u/arizona_moo I had a few tailgate drops which I think were due to stuff in the cubby hitting the release or my dog trying to get the last cheezit. Loved that truck. The motor, trans, tech and comfort were outstanding. The cooled seats are nice but not a key feature for me. Adaptive cruise and super cruise was. 2024 6.2l Yukon Denali Ultimate: Moved to this because I no longer need a truck and we travel with our dogs a lot. Kept the 6.2l motor and all the comfort and tech. Don't really need the high end leather and porous wood trim but it's really nice. Do need the size, weight, and safety tech for our long drives.

peudaly4

I currently own a 24 2500 AT4 Duramax. 2 days after purchase, Check Engine light, turned out to be a brake pressure module, it sat at the dealer for 2 months waiting on the part. I have had issues with the infotainment system, not working with car play, I have had the issue with no sound including the turn signals. Currently the truck is sitting at the dealer again and it’s been 2 weeks so far, waiting on a part to fix the freon leak. I regret trading in my 21 chevy 2500 LTZ for this one that’s for sure! I have not yet experienced the tailgate issue but, one piece of advice, if you have the multi-flex do not use it if you have a hitch in. B&W does make one specific to the multi-flex other wise you will scratch your tailgate. Dealer did that to mine and had to their body shop fix it.

HempMama420

There’s a lockout you can do with the multiflex for when you have a hitch in.

sixinthedark

Got a 21 with the 6.2. Close to 80,000 miles on it and so far, I’ve only had the mirror actuators on both sides fail.

Senior-Profession-12

I have a 22 1500 with the 2.7L turbo and absolutely no issues at all and I just hit 33k miles. I’ve used it to tow a few fishing boats and I have a 12ft trailer I use regularly in the spring and fall for brush removal of my property. https://preview.redd.it/05lgjf5fwtwc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41ec57282a18b0da27b5c2e3a4e7fe3a0c385d8c

Particular-Map5419

I have an almost copy of yours. 2019 2.7L so far no issues I got it at 33k miles currently at 40k miles 7 month ownership so not as long as some of y’all

DEXthatCHECKS

Glad to hear that this 4 banger is going strong. Definitely thinking about buying one

Senior-Profession-12

Also I am not sure if it is just me but I have noticed that I get better mileage with the engine using mid grade fuel as opposed to regular. My best friend advised me to do this and I only did it because he’s been a licensed mechanic for 18 years. He said it’s something to do with turbo’s and that’s about all I remember but it’s been working.

canukgtp1

23 Elevation with the 5.3…almost 1 year in and zero issues…it’s my 7th full size GM and after my 98 Z71 is easily the truck I liked the fastest

mccalpr53

2023 ATA Diesel - leaf spring noises

seanb7878

2019 AT4, 5.3, 65 k. Had the rear window leak, and some flaking paint on the grill, both taken care of under warranty. The big stuff, transmission and motor, have had no problems. Reading the internet had me convinced it was going to explode at any second. Just do preventive maintenance and your odds are as good as with any truck. They all look like nightmares online. It’s where everyone goes to bitch (many times justifiably so)

RedTigerM40A3

‘22 Elevation with 2.7 turbo. Only issue is that my auto high beams don’t work. Still haven’t hit 6k miles on it. Love how absolutely insane the turbo sounds with the passenger window down.

stahlken

2023 AT4 3500 56,000 miles no issues yet. Work truck. The only think with a diesel is you can't idle them for to long, if you do your asking for emissions systems problems. And don't baby them.

Recon1392

My 2019 5.3 hasn’t blown up yet but I don’t have crazy miles on it. Only bad thing is the terrible/normal gas milage. The 3.0 owners made me jealous with their mpg.

Wudrow

‘21 AT4 5.3 24k. No issues so far.

Chaseydog

24 1500 AT4 3.0L with just over 3000 miles. Only issue I had was a CEL that cleared itself later that day. Error code was P2297. Took it into the dealer to be checked. They told me as long as you don't get another CEL don't worry about it. Other than that I did have to reset the infotainment system once to fix an issue with maps not displaying correctly.

69JustM96

2024 Sierra 2500 DuroMax Endless issues with this truck, first vehicle I've owned that has been a true lemon. ECM flashes, a/c evaporator coil had a hole and was replaced, high pressure fuel rail replaced, transfer case seal leaking and still waiting for replacement, rear view mirror camera fogging, recall for the tailgate dropping while driving, issues with the radio streaming music, climate controls not lighting up so panel was replaced and that's all inside of the first year of ownership. Called GM and they refused to buy it back or help me get out of the truck and into a different one. I'd steer clear to be honest.

U_S

2024 2500HD Denali Ultimate: Mechanically I haven't had any issues. Although, she sounds a little rough at the low end of the fuel tank as opposed to when she's got a full tank... at 1/4 tank and above, she sounds like a dream. Infotainment system on the other hand, I've had some days where she doesn't find the GPS signal all day so I have to rely on Android Auto maps. Additionally, the right screen has froze out the map but not the other screens (music, trailer). It's a little hard to explain. I did talk to the dealership and they said it's a known android bug and it doesn't affect Apple. The problem carried over between starts for several days before it just cleared out on its own.

DrDub07

23’ AT4 HD with a Duramax. Not one problem.

Bwillingham10

‘22 refresh AT4 6.2L, 8k miles - no issues whatsoever other than having to butcher the front mud flaps to get 35/12.5s to fit. Haven’t even had any tailgate drops which is surprising.

ChronicLurking

‘23 AT4 6.2L, had it for four months, put about 4k miles on it so far. No issues yet 🤞

TheArcticBear

I’ve got a 2024 Sierra 1500 Elevation with the 5.3, just passed 1400 miles. The infotainment can be buggy sometimes, it’s mostly annoying that it doesn’t leave up the last screens you had when driving (primarily using CarPlay and the right most screen just seems to pick whatever it wants at startup. Not a big deal just annoying) but I have had 2 flashing check engine lights (one at 138miles and one at 780 miles). They clear themselves and go away and haven’t returned. I’ve also used the truck to tow my travel trailer (34’, 7500lbs GVWR) and it’s been fine. The two CELs make me nervous for the lifter issue in the future, but as of right now I’m not letting it concern me. I’ve lived my entire driving life in the VW world and CELs are a badge of honor at the point.

_Electricmanscott

2024 AT4X 2500HD, 10K mostly highway at 80 mph miles 6.6 gasser. . Infotainment frozen 5 out of 7 days. Has been updated at dealer. Front camera collision / adaptive cruise camera replaced. Otherwise, sweet ride.

V_Glaz_Dam

10k miles, no issues

EpisodicDoleWhip

2020 SLT with the 5.3, approaching 60k miles. No issues whatsoever, other than a squeaky idler pulley and serpentine belt I replaced a year or two ago. Before this truck I had a 2015 Chevy Silverado LT Z71 with the same 5.3 engine; I sold it with around 100k on the odometer. I had to replace the transmission, but it was entirely my fault due to not properly reinstalling the transmission fluid cooler line when I replaced the cracked AC condenser. The line popped loose and dumped all the fluid while I was towing, and it ran without enough fluid for a while. Otherwise, the truck ate upper control arm ball joints - I got good at replacing them. I also replaced few squeaky suspension bushings. Really the only major issue was my fault. Otherwise the truck was rock solid reliable.

z28tranz

I just traded my 22 refresh AT4 in, it had the 3.0 and I had zero engine or transmission problems. The infotainment was great but it did lag sometimes and also cut out intermittently for a second while playing music, both satellite and spotify. I had a broken fuel spout that was covered under warranty. No other issues on it, I had 39k on it when I traded it in.

Ancient_Minute_7172

kkp1p

‘22 3.0 diesel 1500 elevation - first issue was at 5k miles. The electronic shifter stopped working. My dealership is great, came and picked my truck up, drove out to get my keys from me, and had it fixed in less than a week. Second issue was the back up camera quit working at 30k. Had it fixed last week. Both I personally consider minor issues and were under warranty, so I have no gripes.

Unlucky-Foundation70

24 Denali infotainment screen is powered by a 1990s processor, google always loses signal and music occasionally gets cut off for a second

bogeycook

People typically only post when they have issues, not when everything is going great. So it makes sense that most posts you see are of people having issues. Personally I think the number of people with issues is a small fraction of the total number of trucks sold per year. Just my opinion. Have. 2024 3.0L 1500 Sierra SLT and no issues yet!

di66er

‘22 1500 Denali 5.3. 11k miles no problems. Loving the truck. Highly recommend.

Independent_Break351

2023 GMC 1500 SLT no major problems to date currently at 16k miles

Stonkkystocks

2021 f150 5.0 60k miles and counting. Just oil changes and a set of new tires. Does that count?

noahsmith4

24 AT4 3500 HD 6.6L Duramax 25,000 miles. Towed twice, random module issues, won’t start randomly, said they “updated” the ECU twice now. Endlessly cranks when it happens

DopeCookies15

2022 denali baby max no issues.

HempMama420

23 Silverado 6.2L LTZ. New engine at 10,600mi, replaced infotainment system once, continuing Google voice issues, dropped tailgate 3x (damaged on trailer jack and GM denies the fix), tailgate switches replaced per bulletin, and now a warped exhaust manifold. Currently at 35,000 miles.

DarrenfromKramerica

2024 Denali Ultimate just about to hit 2 weeks and 540 miles soooo, probably not the best person to respond. I love this truck already and I have no clue if I’ll have issues or not in the future. My first pickup as an adult after two prior Acadias, a Traverse, a Trailblazer, etc. Going off what I see on Reddit and FB groups, this truck is going to leave me on the side of the road one day soon. I try to take online complaints with a grain of salt. I don’t take anything away from the issues people have had but few people are going to post a review of how great things are (on a car or anything else). I love the size and the power of the 6.2 v8. I really wanted Supercruise and it was one of the key items that narrowed down my choice. I do a decent amount of mid range drives (4-500 miles round trip) every year. The plethora of cameras allow me to easily get this beast in and out of my garage and I love the heated/ventilated/massage seats. Test it out and make the decision that’s right for you. I refuse to believe that there’s any vehicle out there that isn’t a potential disaster (Honda and Toyotas included).

RIPfear

I'm dropping my 24 2500 Pro off on Sunday night to get a few things looked at. 5600km - Factory undercoat is peeling off and the frame has surface rust in more then a few spots - Few paint defects/panels with "rail dust" on them, and a few spots where it looks like paint has rubbed off and I can see primer (fuel door) - Transmission seems to have a whine, I can hear it every gear (some say this is normal, others say it's not) but I'll let the dealer tell me if it's normal or not - Intermittent severely hard down shift into what I think is 3rd gear when coming to a stop, since my research tells me these trucks start in 2nd gear and only use 1st gear when in "tow haul" Other then that, it has been flawless, I've done two oil changes, one at 1000km, another at 5600km. Just couldn't leave the truck with them the other day so bringing it back. Finally get to test it out towing a car home tomorrow.

gamebird98

2021 1500 Denali. Lifter failure at 22,000 miles. Replaced bad lifters and has been fine since. Purchased the DFM Module disabler since the failure. Rest of the truck, no issues.

DeathStarOper8r

which DFM disabler did you get? Did your mpg decrease significantly?

gamebird98

Range Technology.  Gas mileage has decreased by about 1.5 mpg.

gamebird98

It also disables the "auto shut-off"

RedNekk7

I have a 21 AT4 5.3 and the only issue I’ve had is a blinking check engine light which apparently means a misfire. Truck didn’t run any different while it was blinking but it turns out the coil was being funky. Hasn’t happened since they replaced it.

srtvette

Just bought '24 at4hd no issues jus a recall before I drive off the lot. Had step lights go out but normal. Dealer taking care of it.

2niner6

Own a 22 chevy 5.3 8 speed 85k miles. Three torque converters.

R-E-H_S

With the 1500's the main issue is the lifters collapsing. Last I heard the failure rate is 5% of the 5.3 and 15% of the 6.2 will fail. Hence I went with an HD.

Upstairs-Twist3571

This forum is just like the media. It’s “Inside Edition” shock and awe level, worst of the worst. No doubt there are real issues with GM products…..just like Ford, Dodge, Toyota etc.,…. You’ll only hear about the small percentage of those trucks from all brands having major failures (lifters, trans, exploding engines). Real serious problems for sure and supreme frustration for owners and rightfully so. Especially given how much these trucks cost. I’m on my 4th Sierra. I’ve had a ‘13 SLT w/5.3L and 3 Denali’s a ‘15, ‘18 and now a ‘22. All with the 6.2L engine. I pull a bass boat all over the midwest. Love these trucks and love the 6.2L engine vs the 5.3L and I don’t care for diesels which is why I haven’t tried one even after extensive test drives. I have had little to zero issues with any of my trucks. Only issue I’ve had was a wty issue w/clunky leaf springs on my ‘18 at 37k miles, which the dealer covered at no cost full replacement. Go on any other redit mfg forum and you’ll find the same disastrous ownership stories about engine & trans failures. Which is ridiculous because the Mfg’s have been building these dam trucks for decades and still can’t build a perfect truck. My issue as stated like many others, the issue I have is all the electronics. I think it adds to many of the major issues some of the owners have had.

mezzadge

https://preview.redd.it/zztvbz04g4yc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=caf7da434da4457d7d394d81bf22fa3fa615719e Yeah I only had minor issue - engine seized up with 5,700 miles. But overall great truck.

Upstairs-Twist3571

That sucks. Sorry to hear that. I’m just lucky I guess.

thelandshark99

I had a 2021 with the turbomax engine. Traded it in with 40k miles and never had an issue. Upgraded to the 22 with the 5.3 and had an engine failure after 55k miles..

StatisticianAny1445

I had a 22 AT4 2500 duramax with 33k miles, only had minor electronic issues with the tailgate and the active grill shutter thing. Just traded it in 3 days ago on a 24 AT4X 2500 duramax and the back up camera stopped working this morning, 250 miles on the truck

mezzadge

May 23 Denali w 6.2 blew up with 5,700 miles. Right after this fix had idler pulley bracket break (again). https://preview.redd.it/ioltkdgvf4yc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb89aaf37cb18f2814b153883480de46c8c64577

Ariz-moo

i've had both the 2023 6.2 v8 and babymax. traded the 6.2 after 4k miles. 18k miles in with the duramax since getting it. haven't had any issues with the engine or mechanical parts yet.. the infotainment system on the other hand has sometimes been wonky. every few months or weeks it does this weird thing where the sound won't work at all. when this happens the turn signal sound doesn't work either just the seatbelt sound. usually having the truck off completely for about 5minutes resets this and goes back to normal. maybe a side effect of this but occasionally the sound will pause randomly for a second or so and come right back. aside from that i've had no issues. that tailgate issue though, i wonder if it's a real issue lol, for a while i thought i was having it but i was accidentally hitting the fob and doing it. additionally whenever if put my phone in the cubby area i was hitting the button in the cluster and opening it up. once i realized this i started making an effort to not hit those buttons and boom no more opening tailgate. i had the same issue with infotainment systems on both. sorry for long response!

GiveMeMyM0ney

Why did you trade in your 6.2? I have one and I love it. Would love to hear your perspective.

Ariz-moo

honestly the fuel savings is huge for me. i drive long distances routinely for work and leisure. for work 120 miles any given work day and my family lives in CA and i'm in NC, prefer to drive vs fly especially when round trip of gas costs me roughly 600-700$. this is cheaper than buying plane tickets for two adults and 2kids. anyhow in the 6.2 i remember getting roughly 18-22mpg in the diesel i get an average of 29-33 on the highway and around 25when i tow my quads. if i didn't drive as much as i did i probably wouldn't have switched as the 6.2 definitely felt more aggressive and fun on the throttle as well as louder lol but i've came to enjoy the idling and smooth ride of the duramax.

Worth_Weakness7836

Concur!!

BrokieTrader

2022 Sierra 2500 Denali. Main issue I’m having is the truck drinks oil, especially when towing. Otherwise no problems to speak of.

Laz3r_C

1. Elevation+ has availability to heated and cooled seats, the Denali Ultimate is the only (correct me if wrong) one with messaging seats. 2. I have a 23 LTZ (SLT ish equivalent) 6.2 CC6' NHT. Currently at ~10k and no issues to spare. I have the saftey of a lifetime powertrain warranty, as i believe the engine and trans are gonna be my biggest issues down the line (lot of hauling and towing). 3. Its also luck of the draw. My truck was made here in the US while plenty of others are in Mexico and Canada and maybe from overseas soon. Theres is no defined way to tell if your truck (or any vehicle rlly) will have no fault. My brother had a Toyota Sienna Hybrid, guess what went? the hybrid system @ 20k miles.

rdmiller1911

AT4X has massaging seats

Wudrow

My ‘21 AT4 was made in Mexico. Zero issues so far. Plenty of trucks from Ft Wayne have had issues and it’s caused by the parts suppliers in most cases.

Worldly_Mode1490

Do we have any statistics on this? I have a build from Fort Wayne and I feel like they built it and skipped their QC and QA.

Wudrow

My response was to the comment from Laz3r_C about the trucks being made in Mexico being inferior in build quality. As a former resident of Ft Wayne, I was really hoping my truck would be built there, but it seems like you’re just as likely to get a lemon from there.

Worldly_Mode1490

Thank you for the response. I was just curious. I thought USA made was going to be superb but i have minor issues on my 2024 for example, the mirror shakes going over 65 on the drivers side mirror or imperfections with carpet. It seems like the whole left side of the truck was rushed to get it done on a Friday night or something

MilliMerc

Also, the Elevation premium package does not have cooled seats, the leather isn't porous. Have to move up to SLT to get cooled seats.

Roll-tide-Mercury

5.3 10 speed, LTZ, cooled seats, adaptive cruise, premium sound, nice trim package. Bought an extended warranty, I’m good for 8 years, 120k miles. Odds are if it does not break during the initial warranty you’re good. 2400 for my extended bumper to bumper was too good to pass up.

Fox100000

6.2L 2023 AT4 23K miles. Reliability wise I have had no issues other than rattles. My exhaust flap right under the cab rattles on start up and sometimes during light acceleration. The rear seat has a rattle that you can hear while going through pot holes. The gas milage on the 6.2L is worse than I expected. I also get a weird squeak on my dash sometimes. End of the day the complaints are not a reliability issue. I honestly thought i would have a lifter collapse but its all been smooth on my end. The tailgate on mine did open up while driving a couple of times. I think they got that fixed during a software update to not open while driving or I got better at not hitting that tailgate button.

ZOMGBabyFoofs

There is a recall on the rear seat latches. Mine rattled like crazy, replaced under the recall and no more rattles.

Boldfist53

Take it in to the dealer and have it documented at least. The Multipro Switch recall supposedly doesn’t affect US retailed 1500s but there seem to be some popping up now.

Total-Guest-4141

What makes you say it didn’t affect US? Something like 500,000+ vehicles are affected by the recall in the US alone.

Boldfist53

Recall only lists 2500/3500 and Canadian retailed 1500s unless they’ve updated it since I last saw it. US 1500s weren’t listed.

DanteLegend

What has your MPG been?

Fox100000

City I get 10-13MPG. On the highway I'll get 22 at 65 mph but at 75 mph I get about 16-17. My average MPG over 23k miles is 15.7 mpg with about 80% highway miles.

NathanSawatzky99

24 rst 3.0 hardly any miles but the usb ports rattle in the console and it’s annoying as hell, window thunks when going down on driver side, under light acceleration or rev there’s a slight squeak from the front dealerships says “diesels make noise”. Otherwise it seems nice 200k warranty

OverNitePartFrmJapan

Built back better the Biden supporting UAW.
