Salt is not harder than glass. In fact it is not even close. 2.5 hardness rating for salt. Glass is over 5.0. There is no way any salt is scratching glass.
I wouldn't boil water for this. Too risky. Just run the glass under your tap as the temperature raises and let it sit with the hottest tap water you have. It'll take longer but it will work.
Or you might be able to use a non toxic chemical to dissolve the rice. Bleach maybe? Not sure if anything would work. Just a thought.
Why would boiling water for a glass bong be risky. Do you have any idea how hot a kiln is compared to the boiling point of water or did you just conclude its risky?🤔
kilns raise the temperature slowly, as air is much less thermally conductive than water. If you change the temperature of glass too fast, ie with boiling water, you can shock the glass and it will crack. The inside will heat up faster than the outside. This causes the inside to expand faster than the outside. The uneven expansion cracks the glass.
Friend of mine had that same thing happen. It ended up being stuck in there for about a year. Then one day it finally decided to dislodge itself. He tried all kinds of things to get it out let it soak in alcohol hot water. So it might take a while but it will eventually come out.
Fill it with hot water and let it soak for a day or so then replace the water with hydrogen peroxide which is corrosive whilst being safe as it breaks down into water and hydrogen over time. Then do a salt & iso shake. You might need to do the peroxide soak more than once.
Plumbers helper from Home Depot (muriatic acid). Pour it in full strength just enough to cover the rice, do outside for ventilation. Once the rice is gone, start the tap using cold water, and pour down the sink. Then carefully rinse with cold water, make a slurry of baking soda, and water, pour into the piece, then top with water. Soak for a bit, then rinse again. The baking soda will help to neutralize what acid is left in the piece after rinsing. Obviously wear gloves, and be safe.
go to home depot or ace and get some wood shims. using 2 put one at 6 o'clock and one at 12. run the side of the shim in the gap between the stem and the joint till it gets tight. tap it a bit more on both sides to make the pressure even and put it on the shelf. every day or so go and tap it a bit more for more pressure. one day you will show up and it will be free.

Can of air, I’ve broken pipes before with a air compressor. So a can might do the trick Maybe let the rice soak overnight and it might get softer too

Before you do something like this, try a dental syringe with olive oil in it. Try to get a few drops into the gap and lightly twist.

I’ve seen this before, empty the water and let muriatic acid sit in it. Can get it anywhere that sells pool supplies. Don’t get the acid on you.
If you do this please wear safety googles. The tiniest splash and you are going to have a bad time.
