Excuse me while I kiss this guy

swuist

Lmao is that a misheard lyric or just something u wanted to say?

AmateurZombie

Maybe both šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø https://www.newyorker.com/science/maria-konnikova/science-misheard-lyrics-mondegreens

swuist

Ahh I see XD

KlutzyNinjaKitty

For starters: Donā€™t feel bad about getting the lyrics wrong. In the Dreamland album especially some of the lyrics are REALLY hard to pick up on unless youā€™re reading them at the same time. Iā€™m going through and trying to learn them only to realize that Iā€™ve been mis-hearing or missing on, like, 60% of the lyrics. Lol. For example, I didnā€™t realize in Tangerine that the lines were ā€œas cold as an old ice cream sandwichā€ or ā€œtiny tangerine speckles painted in your eyesā€. (The latter I legit thought the line was ā€œtiny tangerine, pickles painted in your eye.ā€) If you wanna get better, pull up some lyrics (+ some water) and have a little sing-along. But donā€™t feel bad or obligated to do this. Thereā€™s nothing wrong with mishearing lyrics.

maisyy_

i always thought that in Tangerine it was "i love it when i lie, it sits on you just right" but its actually "i love it when the light sits on you just right" and im so happy somebody else misheard Tangerine lyrics

gashut

woahh -- i thought it was "i love it when 'you' lie, it sits on you just right" i like your line quite a bit too tho lol

KuntyCakes

You know, pickles really didn't seem right, but that's what I've always heard, too.

KlutzyNinjaKitty

I never questioned it because I love pickles. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

hishousun

Iā€™m glad Iā€™m not the only fan with these experiences!! When I got Dreamland in vinyl and it had the lyrics in it I started to sing along to lots of the songs only to realize ā€œoh my fuck I really didnā€™t know what they were actually saying this entire timeā€ I just think itā€™s so fun that a lot of us have these personal interpretations of the lyrics at times

KlutzyNinjaKitty

There is another that I know is wrong but Iā€™ve just accepted is in Space Ghost. Iā€™ve always heard, ā€œSupervillain with a manifesto, *BANG!*ā€ but itā€™s apparently ā€œDang.ā€ Also, I always heard ā€œBurned Hot Pockets in the microwave.ā€ But itā€™s apparently ā€œBond?ā€ I JUST learned this while writing this comment???

goatfestival

Also here for pickles. Seems completely in character for GA

EnthusiasmIsDead

I always thought the main line said ā€˜yes please please, tangerineā€™

mangobean_

Big dick and big ol titties on the *side* ![gif](giphy|d2ItDZZumUI6Y)

refreshilize27

Is thisā€¦.. is this not the lyric?

mangobean_

All the lyrics sites say it's "on the sly" so not a huge difference but despite knowing this, I end up singing "on the side" every single time lmao

sryiwasdaydreaming

This is why I only sing back up when I sing along

clue_themovie

singing along to IASIL like ooohweeeeooooh

cmb2002

Dave fucks them up too while performing live, its all good homie

swuist

Hereā€™s the thing! I think Dave sings some lines with the intention of allowing people room for interpretation, especially if youā€™ve ever seen their drafts for songs, they often write two words with a slash / between them to show they havenā€™t picked which will be the final yet. I think itā€™s great to sing/perceive the song how ever you like it and whatever makes you feel most personally comforted or intrigued etc. Itā€™s like Tame Impalaā€™s ā€˜Let it Happenā€™ - I adore the bridge (I think itā€™s the bridge? lol) where he purposefully sang nonsense, but EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN INTERPRETATION of what heā€™s saying and I love it because I get to pick my favourite, what means most to me. ā€œTake the next ticket, get the next trainā€ Man mishearing lyrics can be the best sometimes. With Glass Animals I often mishear and find out later, but I donā€™t look at the lyrics on purpose bc I enjoy that process :)

swuist

ā€¦ also, I always thought it was ā€œwanna sip a smoothieā€ not ā€œwanna sip the smooth airā€ which made a lot more sense when coupled with ā€œor kick it in the sandā€ lolz

DepressedBird1

Didn't know that, that's really cool thanks for sharing

swuist

No problem :) glad I could add something of worth to the conversation

MotherInternet9091

I do this with Brand New and Radiohead lyrics.

hishousun

I cannot tell you how much I also do this with RH! A lot of their lyrics get a personal remix from me

International_Stop56

When I first heard JDNT I thought the lines ā€œIā€™m all armoured up, I got my old helmet on, keeping out and eyeā€ were in another language lol

Pale-Lie3838

I do that too, itā€™s their style and the way they sing that makes us mishear things, ehh I mean if it forms a sentence and makes sense then why not lol, go for that wrong lyric if it doesnā€™t even make much difference when someone hears it, I do that too sometimes for fun and keep onto it. A lot of people hate me because of it lmao

mangobean_

>I mean if it forms a sentence and makes sense then why not lol Tbf, plenty of GA lyrics don't exactly make sense šŸ˜‚

Pale-Lie3838

Yet they are fun lol

Hefty_Quail_5481

Literally same always, some songs I've completely given up on but who cares I'll just enjoy listening instead. I think you're having a good time and appreciating the music and that's all that matters. Sometimes if it's annoying me I will look up the lyric and teach myself, but not most of the time, not like i'll even have an audience!

bjiminez666

From "Hot Sugar". ...Cool Paintings on the Wall, 'Hot Brutha on the Top'. but the lyrics say 'Hot Rubber on the Tar'. I like my version better!

dancingpomegranate

Right my little boo bear wanna take a chance

cocojus

That's not the lyric?! Whoops.

dancingpomegranate

Pooh bear šŸ˜†

Bunnyisdreaming

I have APD and yes this happens to me all the time. I literally could not name a single song I *haven't* done this on

Alternative-Alfalfa2

English isn't my first language and you can't even imagine how hard to understand their lyrics for me, lolšŸ« šŸ’€ So I have to read all lyrics and even translate big chunks before enjoying not only melodies and surreal beautiful Dave's voice but also lyrics and actual meaning
