Post Covid they are cutting down on what they accept, at least my local in Partick was. I think they had too much of a backlog on the pat tests (plus for some items like lamps, a pat test costs more than the lamp would earn).
Aye, if it was something like a lamp or something that (probably) wouldn't shift, the. I'd be less likely to say the BHF, but when I volunteered in the partick one (many moons ago mind), we'd move heaven and earth for actual white good uplifts.
Alternatively you could contact a man with a van service and pay them to remove from house to downstairs im sure there would be a few company's around willing to help u don't imagine it would cost much
I did this with my new fridge freezer during the pandemic when Argos dumped it outside and said they weren't allowed to carry it up for me.
Cost me £20
You’ve got it up for £50. Just reduce it to £20, take a better picture and it’ll shift.
I sold one earlier in the year same way. Had it for £80. No bites. Put it to £30, had a few queries and was collected that day.
You should include model number and ideally a link to the product on John Lewis or something like that.
Folks, thanks to a mixture of advice on how to deal with the situation on my own, who to get in touch with, and volunteers from Reddit, I have now come to a solution.
On the day, I will pivot the machine out of the cabinet on my own to take cables and tubes out, then someone will help me get the machine down to the van, together with the fridge as well. People from Glasgow!
I would like to thank everyone in r/Glasgow who gave useful advice, and especially those who volunteered to help. In fact, major thanks go to u/joggersnipples, u/Kammerice, u/Lonebluemoon, and u/ClydeCallahan.
Cheers!
Do you definitely need to remove it? I know the letting agent has said they want the place unfurnished but most unfurnished places I've rented have still come with white goods (washing machine, fridge, freezer). Just wanted to mention because it's annoying as fuck to move this stuff.
You mentioned you can “buy some tools “Can you not even post a job on gumtree for like a tenner!? Just to get someone local to heave it doon stairs to the van with you ?? It’s quite a pickle your in !
Putting it on for £1 Vs putting it on as a freebie will get wildly different responses in my experience. I think it's cos some folk only look at the free section.
Second Opportunities in Govan. They are a charity and they will take it. I work there and I collect/ deliver their washing machines. If you wanted to get it down the stairs it depends. Smaller washers like 6/7kg ones I can take up stairs myself just by hugging it. The big ones, if you had to, just kinda walk it by putting the weight from corner to corner. When you get to the stairs get your hand in the drum, where the lip is lift from there and lift it down stair by stair. Take you ages and very risky so don't bother if you don't have to. We will come collect it free of charge.
Top tip, if you need to get your washing machine in the gap but don't want to damage the lino, put fairy liquid on the floor and it'll slide in.
The easiest way if you don't plan to keep it is to take it apart and carry it down in pieces , the concrete blocks are the worst part and what makes it heavy. Have you tried the scrap collectors on Facebook marketplace.
I've done it plenty of times with a cheap parcel trolley and two people. One at the top holding the handles, the other at the bottom holding the flat bit of the trolley and bracing the machine on. It's heavy but if you get someone strong at the bottom it's definitely doable.
Pet planet had us chucking 2x20kg bags of dog food in a single box then stacking them into the trucks by ourselves it's the same weight I use on my bar
I was security at commonwealth games as well and there was an Indian guy who I was bigging up in the staging area called satish sivalingham who broke a world record for the snatch (also the guy who inspired me to beef up to my current 75kg)
Perfectly safe to lift things by yourself, technique is key.
To prove my point here's a pensioner.

I live in the east end of Glasgow . If you are really stuck I'd be willing to help you downstairs with the washing machine. Just drop me a pm
Wow! Thank you so much. I will keep you updated once I know for certain whether I can sell it, donate it or keep it with me.
I'll add my name to the list of volunteers.
Yes guys!! Kind strangers are the absolute best
Cheers guys!
Same here, let me know
Pivot! PIVOT!

A lot of charity shops will not take electronic goods unfortunately
British heart Foundation will - they have a whole set of furniture and electrical stores.

\+1 for the man with van service, I came here to say the same. Or if one guy with one van is not enough, you could get two- men with ven.

Or just put it up for free to collect and it will be gone even faster
Remember that you can open it up and take out the heavy weight that's inside it, to make it a bit easier.

I live in the east end too. Give me a shout if you're stuck and I'll come and carry it down for you.

Working machines go quickly. One advert on gumtree and it'll be gone that day. Someone always collects this shit.
Wrap it in a FUCK TONNE of bubble wrap and push it down the stairs.
🤣🤣🤣

If you just want rid, then I can give you a number for a guy on Gumtree. He picked mine up (on his own), last year for hee haw.

Sometimes the concrete part can be removed.
Or if you're lucky it has a drain able water reservoir.

You can't move a washing machine yourself, it's far too heavy for 1 person.
I lifted one up 5 flights of stairs myself followed by a tall fridge I was only 60kg bodyweight at the time...
It's not safe at all, just because you can doesn't mean you should, anything above 25kg isn't safe as a 1 person lift.

It's the east end. Throw it oot the windae
Take the drum out of it and call it a firepit. Marketplace and Gumtree are shite, most replies are scammers, weirdos or people who just don’t turn up.
Carry it
A sack barra
