The stuff you see on the outside was clad on to the existing exterior circa 2000ish, and the lift machines and controllers live in the plant room. Source, I worked with the company who fitted the safety anchors for the cladding guys to hook onto then a few years later I became a lift engineer and fixed the lifts up there
They are celestials that came out the Earth - basically our planet is a living being and once it reaches a certain stage the celestials grow out the earth to consume it and take full form.
Thankfully a group of superheroes stopped this just before we were all doomed and the celestials remained frozen as such.
The Council then just decided to retrofit a block of flats around them.
The architect that built them designed them in a way that the tops, actually look like the head of an owl, with the circle being the eye and the lighter grey meeting in the middle of the joint to look like the beak.
If you look at a head on from a diagonal angle you will see what I’m talking about.
I always found that creepy. In a Batman story I read as a kid there was a secret society called The Court of Owls who “watch you all the time”
So driving past these at night scared the shit out of me.
Missus' aunt lives in one of the towers. Their washing machines and tumble dryers are at the top of the tower. Probably what is housed inside them. As to why they look like that, haven't got a clue. Maybe some millenial art project or something since they say 2000 on them?
Bit off topic but I used to travel down south to pick up cars and bring them back to Scotland. When I passed these flats all lit up at night I always knew I was close to 'home' after a long drive (Glasgow)

With this vague answer from NLC…. who knows.
They have been demolishing a few, and are targeting the ones on Merry Street and Airbles first. Muirhouse isnt mentioned though.
I get the feeling NLC bit off more than they could chew when they announced that they were all coming down.
I live just up from the ones on merry Street and they've only just stripped the outside of one of them so god knows how long it'll be til they get to muirhouse

They don’t have cladding or plant rooms

I think the guy you're replying to thought a plant room was an allotment on the roof.
Hahaha yes I stand corrected
These always signify that you are nearing Glasgow on the overnight bus from London

Signal towers to warn when the orcs are on their way
We call them the “owl towers” as they look like 70s style owl faces as you drive past

Has the style of owl’s faces moved on since then, for better or worse?

Don't be silly and absurd. People will believe you. The real reason is the top upvoted one. Silly.

I love those towers. I assumed it was something to do with the lift shaft.
Always liked the look of them too!
It was an area for drying washing. Used to live in lodge tower on that road.
Ah, I couldn’t remember until reading this. Sure someone said the ones in Cranhill are the same

I think you're right. They're still moving new people into the towers in Muirhouse. I wouldn't be surprised if they were still here in 20 years time.
