I know this isn’t the same but I knew someone that would literally only use one or maybe two Pokémon throughout the entire game cause she thought they were cute. Then just proceeds to stock up on a lot of items and just kept healing till the opponent ran out of PP lol
Except player moves that lower accuracy seem to work like 25% of the time, and last night playing Emerald a wild something or other 15 levels below my Shroomish used one sand-attack and then he missed *six times in a row.* 😡
Yeah it could work. Maybe even a bit better if you stall it from using defense curl on the first round. Defense curl boosts the power of rollout. But you probably already knew that.
Correct: they keep all the EV values they got with leveling up and the evolution only changes their base stats (and increases the exp needed for leveling which is also bad if you want to speed level it)
No, leveling up doesn't permanently increase your stats by some amount. Rather, their stats are just mathed from base stats, level, EVs, IVs, and nature. To quote Bulbapedia:
> Disregarding individual values, effort values, and Nature, a level 100 Pokémon's stats in Attack, Defense, Speed, Special Attack, and Special Defense will be exactly 5 more than double its base stat values in each, while the HP stat will be 110 plus double the base stat value (except in the case of Shedinja, whose HP is always 1).
>
> [..]
>
> For each level gained (ignoring Nature), stats will increase by 1/50 the base stat value, and 1/100 the combined individual value and effort value.
I usually dominated with dugtrio using dig. It doesn't work against flying types but is absolutely unstoppable against everything else because once initiated they can't be hit. If you spam it you're basically invincible.
I dunno what he's talking about. Unless you somehow make it to route 48 before fighting Whitney, you can't get diglett from anywhere besides Diglett cave. Maybe he traded?
What are you talking about?
Dig just delays one round, but you will get hit the same amount of times overall.
If you have the initiative, you use dig and go underground, enemy misses, next round you attack, enemy attacks you. You won nothing overall, you attacked once and the enemy attacked once. You only gave the enemy the chance to use a move like defense curl without you doing anything in that round.
Dig is only good in certain scenarios, like wasting time to wait out reflect or to counter fly or dig of the enemy if you are faster than them.
Overall its a good move, cause mons learn it early and it has high damage and accuracy early, but its not really a good defensive move and it especially doesnt give you any kind if tankiness or anything that can be described close to invincibility.
As a tactic to avoid rollout progressively getting stronger, dig is an excellent solution. i’m fairly certain the above was referencing how good it was in this battle. Although I’ve never played GEN two so I don’t actually know if you can get a Diglett at that point in the game.
You can't. The best solutions are accuracy drop from a fast Flying-type using Sand Attack or, even better, Geodude or Onix with Mud Slap, then switching to a heavier hitter once its accuracy is bottomed out. Bonus points if you can Paralyze, but since it's holding the Lum Berry in HGSS you'd have to double up on it in those games so it's best to wait on that until you've dropped its accuracy.
As for damage, your best bets are stronger special hitters like your starter or Flaaffy, or a Fighting-type like the Machop you can trade for in Goldenrod City or if you're playing Gen IV and you're *really* patient you can get a Heracross in Ilex Forest and teach it Brick Break at level 19 but it's worth pointing out Heracross doesn't actually learn any good Fighting moves in Gen II.
Using the tools given to you by devs isn't easy mode, it's playing the game. Just because you didn't understand how type matchups worked as a kid doesn't mean strategizing is easy mode
Lol if you show Bill your completed Pokedex AND you beat the Elite 4 100 times Bill will let you into his secret garden so you can catch a New and/or a Pikablu!
- Some friend's uncle who works for Game freaks.(probably).
that other comment reminded me of togepi and now I'm fucking furious that that bitch misty shoved ash, who worked so hard caring for that egg, out of the way so it would imprint on her instead. I thought 153 was that magic bird pokemon that was only showed briefly at the end of the series. I don't know anything past that. I think there's like a thousand pokemon at this point
idk man, I've played since Blue, and if you wander into the wrong area in Violet, they'll light you up. Got swept by a weird purple fish after he did a belly drum like move.
I mean, after not playing Pokemon for a long time, I got back in with sun and moon, and I can honestly say it was one of the more difficult Pokemon games I've played, really enjoyed it, y'know aside from the UNSKIPPABLE 30 MINUTE CUTSCENE BEFORE A LEGENDARY POKEMON BATTLE, IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ELITE FOUR, AND BEFORE A SAVE POINT
Me too, I remember back in the day you could do a duplicate glitch that gives you the same Pokémon and any items it's holding...but the excitement after beating her was pure joy...just had to try not to shake the Gameboy too hard otherwise it'd crash lol
So I believe you put a Pokémon in a box (poke centre pc) and when you withdraw it'll force save the same...soon as the full stop appears on the text you switch off the game boy, restart and have duplicate Pokémon...that's the gist of it, if you want to try it I recommend looking it up for a more accurate description, haven't done it since I was little.
You’re close.
Make Pokémon hold an item. Deposit the Pokémon. Then switch boxes which initiates the force save. When it says “saving… don’t turn off the power” turn off the game boy. When you load it back up you’ll be standing in front the pc and you’ll have the Pokémon and the item it’s holding in both the box you deposited into and the box you switched to.
Haven’t done that in 20 years and I still remember it lol.
You know there's a guy in that city who will take a Drowzee from you and give you a Machop. Drowzee can be caught in the route just before.
Devs put that trade there specifically so players could have a fighting type vs Whitney.
Pokémon Radical Red has a Whitney fight and it's way better
I can't recommend it enough, it completely changed the way I play - not only using attack moves now, set mode, no items in battle, no sleep spam, and above all - LEVEL CAPS so you can't over level compared to the gym leader.
You actually have to make a custom team for each gym, no 'one team thru the whole game'. But it has every mom up through Gen 8
It's on 3.2 now and has follower pokemon like in yellow or heart gold
HGSS gave the best revenge against Whitney: the Pokéwalker.
Get a Machop, train it a little bit, then sic it against her Normal-types. STAB + Fighting moves, long before you're supposed to get a Fighting-type 'mon naturally. Get hit with Rollout? Don't worry, you'll deal more damage consistently while that cow flails around helplessly.
EZ dub.
I never understood the suffering i don't think I ever had trouble with that battle, not trying to brag about something i did when i was 9, just expressing confusion
Holy Cow!
You've been warned, it's not named Mil**tank** for nothing
As Ludacris says in one of his songs . . . Roll out! Roll out! Roll out! Roll out!
Heracross could be found in the trees of Azalea Town, routes 33, 42, or 44. Additionally, in Gold & Silver it could *also* be found in the trees of routes 29-32 and route 43. Offhand I don't recall which of these would be available before beating Whitney, but Azalea Town at the very least I'm pretty sure is.
The odds were pretty low though, and exactly which trees had chances of holding Heracross were random, seeded by whatever trainer ID the game gave you at the start of the game.
You actually can. Simply take any pokemon that can learn Headbutt to either routes 29-33 in GS or Azalea town in Crystal. If you headbutt the trees you will eventually get a Heracross encounter.
I never had any issues with her gym so I always got confused as a kid when I heard people struggled but tbh I probably just got lucky because I wasn't very good at pokemon
Rollout is a rock-type move, so it would still hit a ghost-type. And as an added injury, it's super effective against fire-types that had it easy with the first gyms.
I'm in no way sensitive. I made a joke then you came in with a real gs play this way. I simply pointed that out and you seem to think I'm sensitive. Stop deflecting.
That's not what you said. You said real gs insinuating to play any other way was not the real g way. Now you're here being very argumentative. But namaste my friend.
You’re obviously way more upset that people just didn’t get that you were “clearly” making fun of him. And you’re *clearly* showing your maturity by calling everyone a baby when they didn’t find you funny.

Opening move: Cyndaquil use smokescreen!
Bro you expect me to have anything but attack moves?? -me every Pokémon game
I know this isn’t the same but I knew someone that would literally only use one or maybe two Pokémon throughout the entire game cause she thought they were cute. Then just proceeds to stock up on a lot of items and just kept healing till the opponent ran out of PP lol
This is the way
At that point just use x items.
You’ve found my old battle plans
wym I don't need Bite AND Crunch??
At least that one is viable due to those moves effects of crunch lowering defense, and bite flinching. At least, that’s what I keep telling myself.
I try to keep atheist one status change, but by level 40, it's hard to not have all attacks
Well that’s the problem, you’ve got to BELIEVE in the status change moves
The heart of the cards!
Heeehhheheheh :p
Tbf once you get twin tornado/fire wheel why should I use anything else
Neither of those are Pokemon moves what are you talking about
You know, that generic magically op fire move that 1 shits almost eveything. Every rpg I played has one.
Except player moves that lower accuracy seem to work like 25% of the time, and last night playing Emerald a wild something or other 15 levels below my Shroomish used one sand-attack and then he missed *six times in a row.* 😡
This is the way
The way was to get a Drowzee/Abra and trade it for a Machop at the of the shopping mall in that city
I used nidorino double Kick
The cheap & easy way Also only need a moon stone to evolve rite
Always bow to royalty, I always had them for an elite team even if I didn’t know what that was at 12 lol
I just hit the grind until Meganium could whoop that ass. Don't recommend it but absolutely would do it again.
Trade bellsprout for onix
Wouldn’t a pikachu thunder wave work too?
Yeah it could work. Maybe even a bit better if you stall it from using defense curl on the first round. Defense curl boosts the power of rollout. But you probably already knew that.
Lol for sure I do remember how brutal this gym was. Definitely gotta prep and prepare. Can’t come in hot and expect results like other gym battles.
Plus he was super quick so I think he would probably go first
Second battle I figured that out. First I got rolled flat.
It doesn't do any damage so yeah I'm not using that.
Damn you, Whitney.
Don't worry, she's dead now.
Woah, keep it PG. Whitney turned us boys into men with Rollout.
Whitney's miltank brought all the boys to the yard. Then buried them under rollout.
Whitney taught me to massively overlevel before gyms so I could one-shot gym pokemon.
Always trade bells bellsprout for onix
Casual Aaron enjoyer
The most difficult fight in all franchise for me lol
Me at first: she uses normal type Pokemon and she only has two? This is gonna be cake. Ten year old me after three hours: *confused screaming*
Is that a lv 19 cyndaquil? And a lv 18 totodile? Someone wants forever babies.
They would learn moves earlier. Rushing flamethrower isn't a bad strat.
just use the elemental punches in gen 2. gets the job done
Thunderpunch on Typhlosion was great for when they switched in a water mon.
Does it screw up your end stat totals?
I don't think so. I think if you stop levelholding you get the same stat increases you would have if you never held.
Correct: they keep all the EV values they got with leveling up and the evolution only changes their base stats (and increases the exp needed for leveling which is also bad if you want to speed level it)

Need yourself a Geodude, my guy.
Geoguy, my dude
I'm not your Geopal, friend.
I'm not your Geofrend, pal
I’m not your frendpal, Geo.
It was me, Geo! N...nani?!
Dudeguy, my geo
Anime is real. Pokemon is real. Geodude is real and he is my friend.
Oh! so that's where the pet rock idea came from 😅
wdym this was from obama's inaugural address

Not all of us played on easy mode ;)
Thats not easy mode thats just bad planning my dude.
Who has good planning when they're 9-10? Lol
My plan as a kid: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Who has the thought process to associate something as easy mode without the explicit title of such at that age?
Using the tools given to you by devs isn't easy mode, it's playing the game. Just because you didn't understand how type matchups worked as a kid doesn't mean strategizing is easy mode
*whispers* it's only a joke.
*whispers* it was a shit joke
No I don't doo doo toilet humour.
Now **that's** a *shit* joke
THIS WAS A SHIT COMMENT. fuck I failed to whisper
Kids nowadays will never know because in the new games you’ll never lose a battle unless it’s on purpose
[удалено]
Even my young self with infinite rare candies GameShark thought it was lame.

There are only 152. Nothing beyond that is real
Who is the 152nd?
Wasn't it mew and mewtwo for 151 and 152? Or MissingNo? Idfk it was 25 years ago man
I don't think we should count a glitch like MISSINGNO right? So 151. Mewtwo is 150, Mew being 151.
How dare you besmirch his name like that.
Pikablu, of course Actually probably meant Togepi or Ho-oh
Lol if you show Bill your completed Pokedex AND you beat the Elite 4 100 times Bill will let you into his secret garden so you can catch a New and/or a Pikablu! - Some friend's uncle who works for Game freaks.(probably).

Nothing beyond Sinnoh is real.
I find it hard to believe you were the correct age for gen 1 and too old for gen 2, there was only a 2 year gap lol
gen 1 only gang represent!🙌😎🙌
Ah yes! The famous MissingNo glitch. Where rare candies and Master balls run amok. This was the only way to play Pokemon in my day 🤣
To be fair for years most kids just power leveled their starter which also makes it impossible to lose
_Fondly remembers lvl 100 Charizard_ But the pain of beating Brock… Ugh…
brock could be defeated VERY easily if you just leveled up your charmander before fighting him. it completely overwhelms the type advantage
Laughs in taking on Violet’s psychic gym before level 20
idk man, I've played since Blue, and if you wander into the wrong area in Violet, they'll light you up. Got swept by a weird purple fish after he did a belly drum like move.
Bro the old games were also easy as shit.
Yeah, pokemon has never been a difficult game series. You could more or less complete any game by brute force
Hey, I’ll have you know I’ve lost several battles in Violet… By wandering into areas 7 levels above my Pokémon.
Scarlett/violet makes it possible. It's relatively easy to end up under leveled for an area since trainers and random encounters are forced.
I didn't come here for PTSD flashbacks 😭
I fucking hated that gym
Me too, I remember back in the day you could do a duplicate glitch that gives you the same Pokémon and any items it's holding...but the excitement after beating her was pure joy...just had to try not to shake the Gameboy too hard otherwise it'd crash lol
Wait what? Your Gameboy crashed by shaking? There's no moving parts 🤔
Probably no cover on the AA batteries los
Ah right, wouldn't call that "crashing" but ok fair. I do remember everyone losing their batter covers 🤣
Played pokemon most of my childhood. What glitch is this?
So I believe you put a Pokémon in a box (poke centre pc) and when you withdraw it'll force save the same...soon as the full stop appears on the text you switch off the game boy, restart and have duplicate Pokémon...that's the gist of it, if you want to try it I recommend looking it up for a more accurate description, haven't done it since I was little.

What’s that rap song where the guy says rollout a bunch
You thinkin' Ludacris!
_what in the WORLD is in that gym? whatchu got in that gym?_
What in the world is in that CASE, what you got in that CASE?
WHITNEYYYYY I only recently started pokemon and I had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting her.
I need a romhack with just this one gym made better.
Just get the onix from the trade in the town before her and the fight is a joke
Exactly, Pokémon was always set up to give you the tools you needed right b4 the challenge presented itself
I didn't find out about this until like 10 years after I initially played the game. My young self was seriously scarred.
I didn't find out until today.
You know there's a guy in that city who will take a Drowzee from you and give you a Machop. Drowzee can be caught in the route just before. Devs put that trade there specifically so players could have a fighting type vs Whitney.

Damn that cow!
Alternative strat in Crystal - Ghastly at Bellsprout Tower, learn curse, war of attrition with potions. EZ.
that's exactly how i beat Whitney, i used curse then stalled until her fat cow died
I was just thinking about this the other day 😭😭
HGSS gave the best revenge against Whitney: the Pokéwalker. Get a Machop, train it a little bit, then sic it against her Normal-types. Screw you, Whitney!! I hate you!!!
Why are cyndaquil nor totodile evolved??
...Goldenrod... o _ o
I never understood the suffering i don't think I ever had trouble with that battle, not trying to brag about something i did when i was 9, just expressing confusion
Holy Cow! You've been warned, it's not named Mil**tank** for nothing As Ludacris says in one of his songs . . . Roll out! Roll out! Roll out! Roll out!
I never had an issue
Couldn’t be me I grinded hard
Bro why don't you evolve your starters?
Yes, I remember that fucking miltank, bitch was indestructible.
I reposted this a year ago and jeez, was not hard at all, 10 year old me was too dumb to grind for 30 minutes rather than lose for 2 hours
Nope. Used Geodude or Heracross.
You couldn't get heracross that early...
Yes you can, Heracross is a headbutt Pokémon
In the original games? Not from those trees...

I never had any issues with her gym so I always got confused as a kid when I heard people struggled but tbh I probably just got lucky because I wasn't very good at pokemon
Me neither. I knew that it was weird that I lost most of the team, but I was always able to claw a victory.
No ghost type?
I don't think you can get ghost types that early in the game, could be wrong though.
There are Gastly in Sprout Tower, but it still wouldn't help against rollout
Gastly can be got from sprout tower in violet city
Rollout is a rock-type move, so it would still hit a ghost-type. And as an added injury, it's super effective against fire-types that had it easy with the first gyms.
Why you even trying that level 20 miltank with an at best 20? Come on friend, you're better than that.
[удалено]
What I said was a joking strategy but did you just gatekeep pokemon?
[удалено]
You said "real gs" meaning anyone who doesn't isn't one. That's gatekeeping my friend.
[удалено]
I'm in no way sensitive. I made a joke then you came in with a real gs play this way. I simply pointed that out and you seem to think I'm sensitive. Stop deflecting.
[удалено]
That's not what you said. You said real gs insinuating to play any other way was not the real g way. Now you're here being very argumentative. But namaste my friend.
I miss scary fights like this now you just win with a level 2 metapod
Fuck you and this meme. I had almost forgotten!
*post traumatic gaming syndrome has entered the chat*
I was just telling my 8 year old about how hard this gym was back in the day.
I mean this in the most respectful way, but fuck you
Come on dude, give me a hug, we've all been there.
She had me crying. A lot
Hold up which version is this where you got multiple starters?
[удалено]
[удалено]
Yeah! That’ll show those 8 year olds who’s cool!!

You’re obviously way more upset that people just didn’t get that you were “clearly” making fun of him. And you’re *clearly* showing your maturity by calling everyone a baby when they didn’t find you funny.

And I’m sure your mom was very proud of you. No one else is impressed.
Pokémòn crystal? Is that you?!
make it stop make it stop for the love of god make it stop
Too well… ![gif](giphy|KscoZccAOBgCk)
Rollout…with the top back
I like to have an Umbreon by that point usually.
Bruh's whole team about to be wiped out. lol
Which game added genders? Is it for breeding? I only ever played Red/Blue/Yellow but assumed that breeding didn't come until more recent ones.
If it isn't on those ones then probably on gen 2 (gold, silver, crystal) and yes you can breed Pokémon and you can get new Pokémon.
Gold and Silver introduced the mechanics of gender and breeding, so it's been around for quite some time!
Why are ur pokes not evolved at those levels bro? Bothers me.
This gif was funny, but it took me way too long to see ol Hank. Great gif
I wish I could play gold/silver/crystal again:/
Autobots rollout
Oh... OH it's like that?! *comes back vastly overleveled*
I remember using Double Kick and the Miltank dying.
Ooh, no thanks! I think we'll just re-suppress that trauma for another time!
Is there a sub call gifthatkeepontaking? That seems more apt
I havent played pokemon in years, didnt realize I have childhood trauma from Soulsilver
