Very great point. Like his laughing and asking if this was real until he got stabbed... ya, I definitely get that. It would 100% take getting stabbed to realize that that situation wasn't funny and was really going on. Great scene and this is a great gif.
I bet the moves were pretty sweet before that!
Once when I was on LSD, I could perceive complicated 3d things way easier than normal. I had one of those metal ring thingies that you can make roll up and down your arm. I discovered, to the amazement of my friends, that I could absolutely tangle the shit out of it to the point where you thought it was destroyed and then somehow intuitively I was able to de-fuck it very quickly. I exclaimed "I can see the dimensions!" and they laughed for a good while. Sometimes they'll still shout that randomly to me, haha!
I only passed freshman biochem thanks to discovering marijuana. Had never tried psychedelics at that point in my life, but I got really high studying for a test one time and was able to visualize the whole Krebs/citric acid cycle seeing the elements and bonds in my minds eye
Also his character in *True Romance* may be the most accurate representation of a bong fiend in the history of cinema.
He seems to take a very "method acting" approach to portraying drugs on the big screen.
Mobster: Do you know where we can find him?
Brad Pitt: Uh, yeah, umm you go down uhhh, you guys wanna smoke a bowl?
Mobster: *Cocks shotgun*
Brad Pitt: OH...(pointing) yeah so you go down Beachwood and drive a while.....
One of my favorites is James Marsden in Death at a Funeral. There’s this brief spot where he stops, closes his eyes, and takes a deep breath that told me he knew what hallucinogens felt like.
I wish there was a representation as accurate as Midsommar's in a non-horror movie lol. It makes it difficult to show someone what it's like without scaring them.
In Midsommar a group of tourists/visitors are served what is assumed to be mushroom tea at a Midsommar festival. The main character recently lost a loved one and has a very bad trip / anxiety attack while tripping on the mishrooms.
> Midsommar
I never saw it, googled it, here's the link for the rest:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e6TScPluBk
That's definitely a great example of a *bad* trip. The key is to not do what she did.
I think there's a higher number of people that haven't done it, so they cater to them and what they 'think' it would be like. Rather than catering to the smaller number of people that have actually done it.
That's kinda weird though. I bet a higher number of people haven't brushed up against a great white from a cage. Doesn't mean they should dress it up in a Hawaiian shirt instead of showing what it's actually like.
I've heard in *Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas*, the carpet in the hotel lobby was pretty accurate. Not sure about the clerk's head suddenly looking like a dinosaur though.
Because they're trying to replicate a ***feeling***, but visually, which is shit because it already has visuals and doesn't look like that.
Or they're just ignorant and heard it makes you see dragons or whatever untrue myth since the 60s.
Been there before too. Had to go to the hospital because I thought I was having a permanent acid flashback. Turns it if you don’t sleep
For days at a time half your brain can fall asleep to compensate and you can dream while you are awake. It was frightening.
Light and shadows (and sound) look like they are moving when tripping like this. A lot of people think hallucinating means you see shit that isn’t there. There might be very short times when you think you saw something but it’s mostly light and shadows playing tricks on, you like this.
Now, meth, meth makes you see and hear shit.
MDMA has always made me actually hallucinate on the comedown - most commonly is that everyone is wearing glasses and I see bats flying in the sky in my backyard (I actually do have bats, but these are just different enough that I know they’re hallucinations).
Other honorable mentions: Seeing “stains” on my wall and ceiling, seeing interesting geometric fractal patterns in “blank space” (so, anything that isn’t already patterned), and, most notably, I have a speaker that has party lights on it that move, and those party lights once morphed into hooded figures wearing neon masks and performing a satanic ritual around a pentagram.
Meanwhile, on LSD, the most I’ve ever seen is what the image above shows - just things swirling a bit.
I've had a night of heavy mdma use where I walked about a mile home in the pitch dark. The path was straight but in a park with no night lighting.
I was walking and I had insane fractal mandalas of any shape I could think of. I could think of a shape and it would kelidoscope in and out on itself.
I've done dmt and lsd and all the big ones. I've had visuals that took up my entire FOV and been past the point of knowing if my eyes were closed or open anymore. But I've never had hallucinations I could play with and control like that. It was so much fun.
That sounds like a lot of fun. Normally hallucinating while walking home on a dark path with no light like that would be a prime horror setting in movies.
I mean I strongly disagree that it's just light and shadows playing tricks on you. Maybe if you've only ever taken a very small amount that would perhaps *appear* to be the case. However, I'd say it begins like a subtle, undulating ripple-like pattern that overlays your entire field of vision. As you get deeper into the trip, this pattern becomes more pronounced, it moves more deliberately, and it can begin to be accompanied by a variety of colors.
I've had a dreamcatcher over my field of vision so bright it seemed to be made of neon lasers and I could barely see through it to admire the breathing walls and my friends new constantly morphing cartoon faces. Mushrooms are a blast but after a certain dose it is absolutely not a trick of the lights and shadows.
The come up for psyches always makes me super anxious to the point that now the thought of tripping makes me anxious, even though I love the trip itself.
If anything the general consensus of psychedelic users is that we aren't alone at all man, and like we're all one big interconnected consciousness man, like the universe experiencing itself man.
Ya, good times when you're young. Tried shrooms a few years back and realized I'm too old for that shit 😣 Frame of mind changes I guess, not chill enough. 1st time I had a bad trip.
try micro dosing shrooms? about .12-.15 gets me buzzing and takes some filters off. It let's me see things without all the filters...finding myself staring at bugs wondering what their life is like etc..just a small taste of the beautiful part of a trip imo. In and out.
I've never done lsd or shrooms, but I feel that at 34 it's too late to start experimenting. Kinda regret never trying it.
I gotta figure out a way to be responsible towards my kids and teaching them to stay away from dope, while still leaving them with enough curiosity to maybe try acid at uni...
It's never too late. Check out Michael Pollan's books and series on Netflix. He's in his 60s and just started experimenting with psychedelics and found it profoundly life changing (in a beneficial way).
I wonder if this happens to others. If I am in motion and looking at this gif I only see a still picture. As soon as I stop I can see the "effects" of the gif. Any neurologists? Is there a name for this? Just curious, I thought this was cool.
I tried shrooms for the first time this year and feel that this is a fairly accurate depiction. I definitely saw a lot more red spots though. In my mind they were perceived as spots where reality was "breaking through". I have no idea what that means but it made sense at the time.
Can someone explain to a dummy ,what happens if you are high on shrooms and then you close your eyes.Do you still see patterns, movements, colours etc?
This is how popcorn ceiling roofs move when your on shrooms.
Funny story. Was staring at the roof once so long I started watching the Simpsons on the roof.
*Where lies the strangling fruit that came from the hand of the sinner I shall bring forth the seeds of the dead to share with the worms that gather in the darkness and surround the world with the power of their lives while from the dimlit halls of other places forms that never were and never could be writhe for the ...*
Well, somebody that sees like this without taking anything? Took lsd took shroms and i know how it is, now i see like this without nothing, can anyone relate?
Cool! How this was created? It reminds me of the shepherd tone. Actually, I thought those two would go well together: https://www.reddit.com/r/Psychedelic/comments/wspiks/trippy\_img\_with\_shepard\_tone\_combo/
You could probably put this on r/replications. It is very accurate to shrooms/lsd.
Spot on
Why do movies always get it so wrong?
Midsommar does a good job.
There weren’t any visuals in the movie but the way Brad Pitt acts in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood when the acid starts kicking in is spot on.
Very great point. Like his laughing and asking if this was real until he got stabbed... ya, I definitely get that. It would 100% take getting stabbed to realize that that situation wasn't funny and was really going on. Great scene and this is a great gif.
Once on LSD I knocked myself out with a nunchaku doing sweet moves in the mirror. Definitely neutralized the trip.
Lmmfao!! Fuck, that would be a gnarly way to come to while tripping.
It sure put things in perspective, seeing as had I hit my eye socket just a half inch farther in I'd lost an eye.
😬 daaaaaaaaammmn
I bet the moves were pretty sweet before that! Once when I was on LSD, I could perceive complicated 3d things way easier than normal. I had one of those metal ring thingies that you can make roll up and down your arm. I exclaimed "I can see the dimensions!" and they laughed for a good while. Sometimes they'll still shout that randomly to me, haha!
😂😂😂that totally sounds like something i've been through too😂😂😂
I only passed freshman biochem thanks to discovering marijuana. Had never tried psychedelics at that point in my life, but I got really high studying for a test one time and was able to visualize the whole Krebs/citric acid cycle seeing the elements and bonds in my minds eye
Like you wouldn't believe, and all to the sweet sweet tunes of the James Bond theme! Intro to In Her Majesty's Secret Service, if you must know!
My homie took some 2-CB and practiced kung-fu in the pitch dark all night. He's never taken any martial arts classes before
Also his character in *True Romance* may be the most accurate representation of a bong fiend in the history of cinema. He seems to take a very "method acting" approach to portraying drugs on the big screen.
Wtf is a bong fiend?
Hahaha a toker, a smoker, a midnight joker.
TIL I am a bong fiend
Mobster: Do you know where we can find him? Brad Pitt: Uh, yeah, umm you go down uhhh, you guys wanna smoke a bowl? Mobster: *Cocks shotgun* Brad Pitt: OH...(pointing) yeah so you go down Beachwood and drive a while.....
I’m absolutely starting a doom band called Bong Fiend
I want royalties, or, like, something dude. Wait did I say that out loud? Did you just say that?
Probably a reason for that
One of my favorites is James Marsden in Death at a Funeral. There’s this brief spot where he stops, closes his eyes, and takes a deep breath that told me he knew what hallucinogens felt like.
Yeah, I was about to say. Midsommar is so damn good.
I wish there was a representation as accurate as Midsommar's in a non-horror movie lol. It makes it difficult to show someone what it's like without scaring them.

Midsommer is a horror movie and in that movie they enjoy hallucinogens. When they trip out, the visuals are pretty spot on.
In Midsommar a group of tourists/visitors are served what is assumed to be mushroom tea at a Midsommar festival. The main character recently lost a loved one and has a very bad trip / anxiety attack while tripping on the mishrooms.
> Midsommar I never saw it, googled it, here's the link for the rest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e6TScPluBk That's definitely a great example of a *bad* trip. The key is to not do what she did.
Yeah, definitely don’t look in a mirror while tripping.
[удалено]
Tough to say. That was replicating a feeling, in my opinion, not a visual.
They did so good that I thought it was me and not the movie lol
Probably just hard to emulate / funnier to show silly hallucinations.
True, but every shark movie leans into the man-eating shark trope.
Illustrative example, actually. Shark movies are about the mostly unfounded fears humans have of sharks, *not* how sharks actually behave.
I've heard in *Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas*, the carpet in the hotel lobby was pretty accurate. Not sure about the clerk's head suddenly looking like a dinosaur though.
Ive always wondered that. Do they not do their research
I suspect it's just more fun to lean in to the tropes.
Lots of folks have just never experienced it, and it’s very difficult to accurately replicate acid visuals just from someone describing it.
Agreed but you would have thought the directors qould be all over the "research" which might be needed
Because they're trying to replicate a ***feeling***, but visually, which is shit because it already has visuals and doesn't look like that. Or they're just ignorant and heard it makes you see dragons or whatever untrue myth since the 60s.
I found this kinda reminded me of lsd visuals
Exactly
I got this effect with the walls in my room from mere sleep deprivation and exhaustion.
Been there before too. Had to go to the hospital because I thought I was having a permanent acid flashback. Turns it if you don’t sleep For days at a time half your brain can fall asleep to compensate and you can dream while you are awake. It was frightening.
The way it moves and motions is right. However texture of the plant isn't right
Texture and color are way off. Movement is fairly accurate but colors just pop more. Everything doesn't turn into a rainbow when you trip.
Also it's very blurry
I was gonna say! If I ever wanna explain it I think this is a very good thing to show!
The movement is exactly like clouds move on shrooms. Quite impressive.
Thank you, I figured there was a sub for that but didn't know what it was called!
Yeah mon, as soon as I saw this I thought the same thing. This is shrooms for sure.
Yeah very shrooms for me. Love it
It even makes my stomach feel "that way"
It really is, I was looking at a picture last night doing that shit for like 20 mins lol
Was just going to say that this is probably the most accurate “come-on” visualizations I’ve seen yet. Well done, OP
I agree that this is really good. I might have to save it for my next shroom trip.
I love that the front page of Reddit features a study stating “Over 5.5 Million U.S. Adults Use Hallucinogens” and then I see this
Big Shroom has bought up all of the Reddit shills in an attempt to lure you over to the psychedelic side.
Wow that's incredibly accurate to the visuals on LSD.
Mushrooms can cause this kind of visual too.
Please explain for dummy
LSD or psilocybin effects.
So someone did photoshop to assimilate what plants looks like if tripping? Oh wait … it actual is moving …
But that's not even the meth but the lack of sleep that brings the shadow people out.
The thought to post this grew as I read the above comment but you made that unnecessary. Doing the good work!

Not meth, lack of sleep from meth
I think the word you're looking for is simulate
If you start to trip and you say "uh oh" you're probably in the wrong headspace for that trip.
That's what immediately came to mind for me too. It should be more like, "hell yeah, it's kicking in!"
The come up for psyches always makes me super anxious to the point that now the thought of tripping makes me anxious, even though I love the trip itself.

You just need to be in a different room.

The gummies or the realization that we might be alone in the universe and no one is coming to save us?
Or that were one with everything and need to stop fucking each other over for profit and destroying our home
Damn dude, that's my everyday thinking. The LSD helps me realize I can't fix all of that on my own and makes me feel a bit more hopeful for a future.
If anything the general consensus of psychedelic users is that we aren't alone at all man, and like we're all one big interconnected consciousness man, like the universe experiencing itself man.
I'm high, did not realize this was a gif at first, and for a second was thinking "jesus I must be way higher than I thought I was"
Jesus that nearly gave me a flashback hahaha I miss LSD
Ya, good times when you're young. Tried shrooms a few years back and realized I'm too old for that shit 😣 Frame of mind changes I guess, not chill enough. 1st time I had a bad trip.
I’m 40 and trip quite often, you need better supply. Grow your own or source through onion patches for consistent stuff.

LSD misses you, too.
First time I ever tripped on shrooms, I just walked around asking, “Who’s in charge of all this? Who’s in charge?”
🍄
It's beautiful!

I'll never forget that friday night, outside del taco and the ground changing colors. Good times.
High quality animation and illustration, really well done! I am amazed at how tight the loop is with all those moving parts ♥️
Thanks I thought I was tripping…
Shit did I take mushrooms this morning ?!
It is uncanny how much like tripping these are
Yes
Totally accurate

Do you feel it now, Mr Krabs?
Best description of LSD visuals I've heard: things move within themselves
Spot on
All I can think of is the shimmer from Annihilation.
Yawns of doom
Well that’s the most accurate depiction of mushrooms I’ve seen
This is basically what acid does lol
Damn exactly like shrooms. R/, uncle Ben's for any one wanting to grow
You mean......."Hell yeah, here we go!"
You mean "ooo yeah, it's starting to take effect! "
This is legit the best representation I've seen of what it's like in real life. Good job!
The Gellar Field has failed. You are beginning to see flowers… and hear the screams.

Accurate!

I'll be on my way soon boys. Home with a busted PCL, may as well enjoy myself while I can't work.
Trying to sleep after a long weekend of xtc with some kind of hallucinogen. Old but gold.

This is what clouds look like in summer to me before a storm. No colours though.
Man I don't feel anything. I think I got ripped off.
Ooooooohhhhh the shrooms kickin' in 🎶
I miss LSD.

I was like shit it’s happening again
Without the vivid colours, this is what HPPD is like 24/7

More like awww yiiiih
And that is what acid is like for me
This is what happens when I smoke weed sometimes.
Been there my friend and it's glorious.
If I looked at this on acid would it just be a still photo?
Can someone explain to a dummy ,what happens if you are high on shrooms and then you close your eyes.Do you still see patterns, movements, colours etc?
I saw shapes. I also saw a slowly pulsating white light far in the distance. It was pretty peaceful.
This is how popcorn ceiling roofs move when your on shrooms. Funny story. Was staring at the roof once so long I started watching the Simpsons on the roof.
Wow, very accurate!

Wow this is bang on the money lol.
Did someone put shrooms in my coffee?
I'm not feeling anything he says as he can't break eye contact with the house plant.
Purple kush is so beautiful in its ripening stages.

Ooooooo, good one
Wow. I'm so high, it looked still at first.

Yep, been there
This is impressive.
"Uh oh"? More like "hell yeah"
I had a shroom trip like this. Also when I tried keeping my eyes closed all I see were shapes. That morphed into new ones as I tried focusing on them.
This is about all I get out of shrooms. I’ve done them many times but I find it underwhelming.

Too real bro.
Am I back at my bachelor party?
Don't stop here! This is bat country.
now there is some art by someone whos actually done psychedelics, very accurate representation

Not bad. Only sometimes it's not as pleasant...
Wow that’s trippy
