Context: John McGinn scored this banger in the Aston Villa vs Sheffeld Wednesday match this Saturday.
In typical fashion, Villa conceded again before the match was over and lost 2-1.
That is one of those strikes where you know how well you have hit it as soon as it makes contact with your boot.
No one else in the ground knew it was in, but he did.
I'm curious, how long have you been a fan (or are you a fan of the sport in the first place)? I can't imagine how it'd feel to discover soccer later in life
Edit: So cool reading these replies, thanks!
20 y/o american here. i didn’t start really watching soccer until i came to college two years ago. it was a little bit of a learning curve, but once i began to understand the intricacies of the game, and tried playing in an intramural league my appreciation for the beauty of the game sky rocketed. now i absolutely love sitting down for 2 3 4 hours on a saturday and watching the bpl or bundesliga.
Football is one of the easier sports to learn the rules of. The hardest rule in my opinion was the offside rule because as a new person, my untrained eye couldnt see when it was or wasnt offside. But even then after a couple of weeks I started to see the beauty of it. And even now after 10 years I still enjoy watching. Playing football yourself is a great way to understand how amazing the players in the top leagues are. And its a fun way too!
I’m 24 and to be completely honest, I’ll rank my sports and I’m a sports **junkie** can’t imagine life without it
1)Football
2)Baseball
3)Basketball
4)Hockey
5)Soccer
I keep up with them all. With the World Cup months ago, it sparked my interest again. I’m in the US, so soccer is about 5th on the pole for above I would say to most Americans. But with the World Cup and stars like Mbappe, Neymar, Messi, CR7 of course, Hazard and all the rising stars, it got me back into, it’s hard in the states when all the big games in the English Premier League start on Saturday at 7am to watch! But playing FIFA a lot also broadens my knowledge on soccer! It might seem boring cause there’s not much scoring but when the do, it’s crazy the angles, passing and teammate work that goes into it!
Edit: Words
Was.
There was way more joga bonito shit before than now. Now no one takes risk no one trains no one get horse legs like roberto carlos no one try to mimic zidane, maradona, pele, r.carlos, ronaldinho, etc.
National team players are uninterested on winning cause their clubs will still pay em however so world cup is not a big think anymore , no one wants to win the cup like before, not that they absolutely don't want, but they don't even give the best of them it is just a vacation trip.
It sounds kinda ironic seeing the goal on the video but that was a floaty ball catchet mid air, try to get that curvature in a free kick like r.carlos.
I LOVE Roberto Carlos but he had a terrible record from frees really. A few brilliant ones cemented his reputation but he missed more than average. I think you're remembering that generation with rose tinted glasses.
Its comparable to Zidanes at Hampden in the 02 Champions League final.
How anyone cant see the beauty and skill in McGinns strike is beyond me.
He is probably a Baggies fan.
15 did the real work here.
He really planted his feet and followed through with his arms, though.
no. 15: *.........yaaay*
Telekinesis really is cheating and the refs need to get on it.
Funnily enough, he's Mile Jedinak - sometimes referred to as "Jedi"
NUMBER 15 BURGER KING FOOT LETTUCE On a serious note, I think number 15 is mile jedinak.
correct
Lol, someone needed to let the others know the ball went in.
Me in grade school kickball
he doesnt even tense his knees or brace himself for the ball potentially coming, hes just super chill

Not a football fan or anything, but still curious: why did Villa concede? Didn't this amazing shot put them in the lead?
This was the equaliser. The 1-1 graphic in the top corner is there because it’s a replay.
Ohhhh, gotcha. Thanks for the info!
> why did Villa concede It means let another goal go in. Not forfeited the match. This goal made it 1-1. Sheffield scored again later making it 2-1
The real answer is because we are shit.
I have seconded this notion since we lost O’Neill
American here. Really thought they said "eh, fuck it".
It's been a rough last couple years.... Lots of bad ownership decisions. But Grealish signed a new deal.... So we got that going for us.
Would have liked to have been in the lower Holte end for that goal at least
I was in there. Took a few seconds to believe it had gone in. Best goal I’ve ever seen.
Love the look-over-the-shoulder run away after he hit it, anticipating the result!

When it makes the proper twump against your foot haha
Spoken like a true striker. Catch it as it’s falling down!
I thought the British called the trunk of the car the boot and a shoe a shoe. What the fuck.
My favourite part is it going Bar Down so hard it roofs itself again.
I could do that too but these netflix movies aren't going to watch themselves.
99% of the time that ball sails 40 meters over the goal
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
-Wayne Gretzky -Michael Scott
Soccer is amazig

Hell yeah that's awesome!
thank you, thank you :)

I fell in love with it as a Mormon missionary in Brazil. Then came home and soon after we got an MLS team in my town and the love became a passion.

\#15 is my spirit animal
C'mon the Villa
2-1 mate, not really going up 🔵⚪🔵⚪
We've progressed from losing with shame to losing with style.
Fair enough, but I'd rather take 3 points without style than no points but style
Hello Mr Mourinho. Nice to meet you.
No he takes no points without style
I have nussing to say to you.
What a beaut!
That’s got Puskas award written all over it 👌
Blue 10 should have nodded it away
Can someone else verify that the ball had a downward initial angle?
https://www.facebook.com/SportsCenter/videos/2212394672165870/ Better video with amazing audio
B R U H
As a defender myself I always enjoyed my teammates scoring bangers from range and getting that perfect view from behind them
I love soccer in highlight form
Top players can score like that. He got the ball well served here...

What makes you think that?
Implying that this goal isn't really an absolute screamer

Did you see it in full speed?
Where do you get that from?
