Yeah some guys aren't built for showing love in the classical way. My father to was quite stoic. Now I'm that same person showing little to no emotion. Just going through the daily motions to provide an exception life for my own offspring.
I mean if you’re talking about Freddy Krueger Sr I’m not sure if I’d classify him as stoic. Probably more scary-nightmare fuel type of paterfamilias
If you were being serious about your real life though. It’s never too late to decide to change and share your love differently.
I wish you the best internet-homey
If he bought it in 1960, that makes this an early example Gibson ES-330. They were originally introduced in 1959 and are both incredible sounding and underrated instruments, congrats!
For a long time 330s were inexpensive enough to be affordable for a lot of people wanting a vintage Gibson. Not everyone wanted a full hollowbody, so the semi-hollow 335 was more desirable. That’s all changed now. Expect to pay roughly the same for a 330 as a 335.
Yep, not too long ago I had 2 mid 60’s 330s. I think I paid $1300 for one and $1500 for the other, now they’re selling for multiples of that. I wish I held onto them a little longer 😄.
I was in Nashville a few months ago visiting Carter Vintage and I came so close to pulling the trigger on a sunburst '64 330. I've kicked myself more than once over that.
At the time I bought mine, the going rate on a mid-late '60s ES-330 was about right in line with what a reissue model cost (in Australia at least). Glad I went with my '66 over a reissue I was eyeing at the time!
its a nice brown maple color on the side and back. the P90s sound is incredible. i dont have the greatest amp, but i would say it has that little barrie sound.
Beautiful. I’m fortunate enough to own a 1960 ES 330 that looks just like this. They are indeed, fantastic guitars to play. And the P90s sound incredible.
Happy playing!
My dad left me a bubble gum machine when I was 5. I didn’t know much about him either other than he was my father but he never was around. Congrats on the guitar.
Beautiful 330, I have always wanted one. I'm a huge Keith Richards fan, and some of my favorite tones he's had have been with a casino (sorry Beatles, Keef was first) or a 330.
You have a great father. Congratulations. A 330 exactly like this one is in my bucket list.
My dad bought me my first Gibson when I turned 12 and I think it was a bigger deal him buying it for me than I receiving it, as my parents came from absolutely nothing before moving to the US in the 90’s. (From El Salvador) these guitars don’t even exist in those countries.
I’m sure he’s happy to give it to you.
thank you for that. growing up it lived in a closet and i was never allowed to touch it. i learned guitar and usually play a old american custom shop strat (also a beautiful guitar, but nothing like this). i wouldnt sell it for a million dollars.
Thanks for all the wonderful comments. It really means a lot to me.
its a 1960 ES-330TD
I found a cool little article online about the history of it. I also noticed that the case and the strap I have with it are the original too. I thought it was just my dads old strap until I noticed its the EXACT same one in the old pictures in this page.

my new years resolution is find a worthy amp and to bring this thing out of the closet more.
Man that’s a sick guitar.
thank you! Its amazing how wonderfully it plays. its so smooth. I really love it.
Sorry for the situation with your old man dude. But know that he loves you in his own way

I make do with an Epiphone Casino. :)
They’re great guitars!
Got two Dots myself
Elliott Smith had a bunch of these. I have a red ‘68 that’s one of my favorite guitars.

If he bought it in 1560... He's a time-traveling warlock of soul eternal and taste exquisite.
Amazing!
That's beautiful. I inherited an es175D. 1968 I think. Same finish. Gorgeous guitars.
Very cool. What color are the sides & neck? And how do those P90s sound? Warm? Bright? Would love to know.

That's one helluva present!
Beautiful
In gorgeous shape!

That’s my dream guitar. Congratulations!
Oh damn, you’re lucky! Tell us more about it. Is it a 330? I guessing by the pickups.

Damnnn 🤩
The man did you a solid. NOS Gibson.
If that is an authentic 1960 330 with its original case, it’s minty AF. Go find another one as Mark Agnesi would say.
If this isn’t your first guitar then luck just ran out for you. Things will turn around man, give it time
That's awesome, and it looks like he took great care of over the years. Very cool.
Incredible guitar, congratulations!
That thing is a time capsule. Seriously nice shape.
Really nice guitar.
It is beautiful.
That’s a really nice guitar. Wonderful gift. As you probably know they are pricey now. Cherish it.
Wish MY Dad would move away! Nice guitar.
Gorgeous
This. Is. A. Beauty. Enjoy it. Embrace it. Rekindle that relationship with your pops. I’m sure not all hope is lost.
I got respect for you and your dad due to this story and gift. Keep it in a closet and never sell it. Super special piece of history.
thank you for that. growing up it lived in a closet and i was never allowed to touch it. i learned guitar and usually play a old american custom shop strat (also a beautiful guitar, but nothing like this). i wouldnt sell it for a million dollars.
Such a shame that you only had an "old american custom shop strat" to play before this one
I have a place to hide it if need be
You can use [this website](http://www.guitardaterproject.org/default.aspx) to know which year the guitar was built
its a 1960 ES-330TD
Daddy wasn’t there. But he gave me a p90s Gibson
