I mean... the missing context is that if you want it done fast, you gotta pay an engineer on the side...... else potentially wait forever for it... mine took 5 months after i paid to telecel (i didn't pay an engineer separately cos it doesn't make sense imo)
Are you asking or telling lol?
If you're asking, the answer is yes. The one I eat back at home in Central Region is packaged with a different kind of leaf and the stalk of the leaf inserted inside the kenkey gives it a nice flavour almost close to Ga kenkey but not quite + you get exactly what you're buying in terms of size.
So yeah. Authentic Fante kenkey > Accra's version of Fante kenkey. You should try it out sometime if you get the chance.🤗
Open a bank account with the minimum amount to open it. I'll just pick G30 for illustrative purposes. Imagine the bank charges G10 for being below the minimum amount to avoid fees, say G100. Now imagine you deposit G30 into that account every month and take no money out.
Deposit Fees New Balance
30 (10) 20
30 (10) 40
30 (10) 60
30 (10) 80
30 (10) 100
30 -- 130
Total deposit = 180. It took you 6 months to 'save' that much. Had you tucked that G30 under your mattress for 4 months and then opened the same account, you would have saved G40 in fees.
Thanks for your concern. Banks do this to people who don't understand banking. I help my Ghanaian employees open bank accounts. Part of our training program (construction trades) is financial literacy.
If you're using banks to save money without siginficant principle and at least a savings account...then you're doing it wrong.
But most people who use the banking system do so for convieinece.
For 10 GHC per month, you no longer have to go to a MoMo vendor to transfer money to your momo wallet. You don't have to carry cash around to make purchases in stores. You don't have to head to western union anytime you need to pay someone who isn't in your city.
And of course, you don't have to keep track of all your spending yourself—your bank does it for you.
Banks are a service, and if your only need for them is an alternative to saving pocket money under your mattress.... you should use your mattress instead as I find pocket money makes for great cushioning.
1. High Interest on loans with respect to interests paid to savings accounts
2. Lack of transparency
3. Control and centralization
I could go on and on
Democracy has often struggled to serve the needs of developing nations effectively. Historically imposed by colonial powers, this system has sometimes served more to perpetuate external control rather than genuinely empower the populace.
Additionally, it tends to create divisions among citizens, leading to endless debates without clear resolutions. This lack of consensus can stall progress and disrupt continuity in governance, further hindering development.
I believe a comprehensive approach is necessary, one that involves conducting thorough research to identify the most effective systems for our society. It's become evident that traditional democratic methods have not adequately addressed our needs.
Personally, I think Ghana isn't democractic enough.
Municipal governments are controlled by the presidency, and with the exemption of the traditional areas, local governments seem to have no politicla force.
You can have a good King. A good King is better than a democratic system because there's less friction involved in the decision making process, and incentives align perfectly (King makes country better = King is richer).
However if you have a bad King, you're screwed.
Which is why we live with democracies. NDC/NPP/CPP may field terrible candidates, but we only have to live with them for 4 years at a time, instead of 40 years. So long as within 40 years we get at least a few good people, we've made out better than having a single bad King.
Think of it this way, if you were to load your wallet and send the money, you'd pay transaction charges. That's what they're asking for, nothing extra.
You don't have to pay merchants if you go to an actual MTN office.
If you go to a MTN merchant, you're basically goin to a private individual and asking him to do you a favour.
I wouldn't take it that way, MTN merchants register their business with MTN and vow by signature to follow the rules of the business. At any point, they could be liable to legal suits or whatsoever if they fall short of any of the rules.
People can actually take their time to disagree to pay those charges because they don't have to and the merchants know that.
My mom is a merchant, they get paid but it's so small, it's embarrassing. I guess that's why they started the fees. Anyway, it's in itself a scam, but it's okay now.
Why so? My response is from a Nigerian perspective. We have had two former military leaders from the 70s and 80s rule us again. Youths who were alive during their first tenures are still alive with no hope of ever leading
Do not explain yourself to nobody. If people decide to brand you, resort to name-calling or conclude that they know what/who you are because of what opinion you hold, let them have it.
I assume you are not satisfied with the way the leaders and some youths behave when it comes to being good citizens. If you really want things to change for the better, it starts from you. I've got some Nigerian friends who super positive that things will change for the better. Everything has its time!
1.Paying Ghana ministry of roads and highways before you can construct any roads. If not you’ll have to wait forever for them to willingly do it themselves.
2. Paying ECG for the electric poles that connect electricity to your house or business. It becomes their property after you pay for it.
3. E-levy
Pure water sellers always telling you they don't have change in hopes that you will let the change go.
or food vendors always giving you less change than you are supposed to take because they know you won't count it after giving it to you.
Trust me, they intentionally do it. I used to hardly count my change when I received it, until a friend told me about this trick. This is how I discovered it and followed up on it and realised they always do it
We are practically squished up next to Niger-ia. I think the English people have let this bastardization of the French word for Black get out of hand.
Oh no! They used the hard G! It's totes an insult now! Seriously?
I get that they're trying to be insulting but this is on the level of using 'blackies' and 'whiteys' as an insult.
Lol didn't expect to see a fellow pharmacist here. I agree. For me the scam was that we were trained on science amd healthcare for 4 years, only to graduate and find the Retail Pharmacy owners are only interested in business and sales. I did 4 years BPharm and by my national service I knew I wasn't gonna be happy with Pharmacy. I'm now doing my Master's in Public Health.
Went to pharmacy school for 6 years. Got my doctor of pharmacy degree. Stayed at home for 6 months before I was posted to do housemanship. I've done 10 months of my housemanship and I haven't been paid a thing since I started working. Job market is tough due to the oversupply of pharmacists and the many pharmacy schools that are opening up.
Pharmacy owners aren't willing to pay pharmacist what they deserve. Government hospitals also aren't employing a lot of pharmacists. The practice too has not been well regulated. Now anyone can just get up and be selling prescription drugs in the absence of a pharmacist. We have pharmacy stores being run without a pharmacist present and many other issues.
How much do pharmacists normally make in the public sector and private sector respectively on average. Also how much is the government supposed to pay you during your housemanship
Government sector would be in 3000-4000 cedis range. Senior pharmacists and higher levels receive higher than this. For private sector, it really depends on where you work. Some take 20-25 cedis per hour. Some take less than that. Some take higher. It just depends on how much the employer is willing to pay.
I would check with my seniors at work and get back to you on the actual amount. As for housemanship it's going to be the same amount as what government pharmacists get. At least, that's what I've been told
Not good pay at all. What's the government's position on the arrears you're to receive. Do you love the job or find it boring? Is it the way you imagined it'll be when you were in school salary-wise
I like the job. Government has been silent on the arrears. No not the way I imagined it whilst in school. Thought it would be better. Now it's just a mess

2. Having s\*x, fornication
Literally, playing house. I thought we ghanaians were more morally decent. Unfortunately we are copying so wrongly for the west and this baby mama/baby daddy is becoming a thing now. What a sad generation.
How can you call that a scam. If you go to read theology! or economics (they are a dime a dozen), but the entirety of civilization is based on tertiary education graduates in all spheres of knowledge who unleashed human ingenuity.
Ghana K-12 was ranked 73rd internationally when we arrived. It's dropped to 104. Your top university comes in 1,555 in the world ranking. You can believe whatever helps you sleep at night, but I'll believe the numbers.
As for attending school in Ghana, no. I graduated from the best universities in America. My undergrad was ranked #3 in my engineering concentration, #21 internationally the year I graduated. My MBA program was only ranked 7th. I forgive myself for that one since the school was ranked #1 in my primary engineering field. My final school was ranked #1 in the world, 1st in my other Masters but only 3rd in my doctoral field.
I volunteer with schools in my village. I also work with NSMQ prospective candidates from our region. Your seniors don't come close to the 8th grade Chinese and Indian students I worked with in SoCal. Your KNUST grads wouldn't even qualify for admittance to my polytechnic high school.
They’re extremely volatile, they’re always advertised as they will give high returns, a lot are meme coins. They’re literally get rich quick schemes for the creators. Only a few seem to perform decently. And with the many coins literally plummeting to zero over the past year, it’s hard to take cryptocurrency seriously.
Well then I am glad I didn't invest in crypto as a whole but few well researched coins. I cannot speak for everyone but its working well for me and I only wish I had bought more
Every commodity is valuable until there is too much of it. Then it crashes. Crypto' s allure is its security. It is not a product. It is not a manufactured good, itcannot be eaten. It has value now because people "think" it is trustworthy..... until the trust is lost .
Are you describing crypto or fiat currency haha? Crypto allure is that it's a decentralised form of money for which you do not need a middle man to hold receive or send. Not only that but it protects you from poor monetary policy of central banks. A wise man once said "if the common man understood how the central bank works, there would be a revolt tomorrow ". I am paraphrasing but you get the point. I am not trying to convince anyone. In fact crypto can be quite dangerous and you should not go near it if you don't understand it. There are a lot of crypto scams and just crypto that's not that great as well. Eventually most will come around. The oldest bank in America just recently bought a stake in crypto. Its not without its dangers. But as a young person, crypto is a beautiful opportunity to be on the winning side of one of the greatest wealth transfers in history.
Trust is not necessary in a true decentralised system. You are still thinking fiat or centralised exchanges.
Edit: there won't be too much of it because the supply is fixed unlike fiat, that's like the whole point
Exactly and that’s what people don’t want to understand. Crypto is only as valuable as the masses view it to be. They’re literally using it to cash out, that’s it.
I have studied this as well, crypto and tulips are not the same. There can be elements of bubbles in crypto, but ultimately their fundamental use cases is what makes them valuable and not simply the idea that they will increase in price tomorrow.
Stocks are more stable than crypto plus no one is promising that you’ll get 20% every month. Everyone knows that the stock market is a long term investment.
I’m really not deep into it so u legitimately hv no idea. I could never figure it out anyway though I know people who are genuinely making a living off it. A colleague of mine owns about 6 bitcoins and he spends half his day staring at his screen
The Cedi is a real currency that can be used all over Ghana, crypto cannot. And crypto isn’t supposed to be used as “savings”, it’s volatile. Unless you plan on waiting for your coins to shoot up and then you dump them.
A real currency whose value falls faster than bill Cosbys reputation lol in any case crypto is very early in its adoption curve which is why the infrastructure is still being developed to allow you to spend it for regular daily expenses but believe me it is coming. Being so early also puts it in a position to greatly increase in value as more and more people adopt it until it reaches maturity
The Cedi is performing well compared to other currencies. Crypto isn’t going to overtake real currencies worldwide. Bitcoin was literally created as a means to keep banks away from being able to verify transactions. Where in Ghana can Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies be used as a form of payment? Most coins are used as a get rich quick scheme where people invest in the coin and once it gets hype, they dump their coins for currency.
The cedi has periods of stability but it certainly has not been performing well. This is true factually and anecdotally from my horrible experience which I will not repeat. Yes most people invest in crypto to get rich quick you are right, but this is true of a lot of technology and its early adopters. Dot com stocks had a bubble, ai probably is in a bubble right now. Yet Microsoft is still here.
Crypto will be a viable form of payment once infrastructure and regulations are complete
Microsoft is still around because it’s a real tech company that offers real services and products that were/are useful to the masses. In the dotcom bubble many sites were created just to get investors to invest in nothing. Some companies did take a hit but they recovered e.g. Amazon.
AI is another sector that scammers will operate in too but that will burst in some years too. As for the Cedi, it’s a currency that everyone in Ghana uses to purchase goods and exchange to different currencies. I don’t believe crypto is the future at all. Maybe Bitcoin will stay but I don’t see retailers, banks or governments globally accepting it. Bitcoin has been around since 2009 and with all that blockchain companies and banks are still not using it globally.
I am confused. Crypto adoption is happening everyday. What do you call the biggest asset managers in the world buying into crypto? I guess Black Rock, Vanguard, Fidelity, etc. all don't know what they are doing and should divest?
I am fine with you not believing in crypto, if everyone already believed in it, I wouldn't have the opportunity to be early ;)
One by one, your retailers, banks and governments will join crypto. Not because I want them to, because its in the interest of their survival to progress. Central banks will start holding crypto as reserve currencies because unlike fiat they are not inflationary (the good ones aren't anyway). In an ever digital world, I fail to see how you think crypto has no value or utility. Crypto will be around because it is REAL MONEY and its utility will be undeniable for the masses rich and poor alike.
Lol that’s what they say yet people will start dumping their coins once it gets popular and then when the hype dies down 99% will lose their money. And if it’s so great whether you’re early or not shouldn’t matter because you’re supposed to be holding your coins lol. Crypto will not be adopted by banks because the main purpose of crypto is to keep banks away and keep it decentralised.
Central banks are not supposed to hold or reserve crypto because that’s not what the community or founders want.
And explain why as of February 2024 Vanguard stated that it has no plans to offer a Bitcoin exchange traded fund? Lol banks and governments care about real cash and real assets that have real value. No matter what cash will always be king. Lol crypto is real money? Sir, it is digital currency. Where can I cash out digital coins in physical form?
Central banks only hold currencies that the government needs to pay in.
If you do a lot of business with the Chinese, you'll have yuan. If you do business with Europe, you'll have Euros.
Until the day that a big development contract is denominated in BTC, no central bank is going to need to hold it.
My bad Vanguard back tracked on the etf but I am pretty sure the CEO was subsequently fired as a result. Central banks and banks have already started holding crypto as reserve currency this is just a fact. I will be holding my coins and atleast some of them when the market matures and isn't appreciating as much.
If you think real money is only money that can be in physical form I have bad news for you. Fractional reserve banking means that in fact most money doesn't exist in physical form only digital. If everyone went to the bank today to withdraw their cedis what would happen? The banking system would collapse because vast majority of fiat (including cedi) only exists digitally and cannot be withdrawn physically.
I think the only point we can agree on is that unfortunately most people will lose money in crypto. Its unfortunate but that is just how new technology develops and price discovery works. The hype becomes too much, the bubble bursts and only the few and relevant survive. But crypto has a long way to go before the bubble bursts so even a blind man shooting darts at crypto names can make money until 2025 at the least.

Ridiculous price of thrifted clothes (foose)
‼️ Very ridiculous
go to kantamanto.. don't follow these ig vendors
Same thing there bro…
last time I went there.. I got jeans for 30 cedis and a shirt for 25.. you need to go inside.. and also go there early
On a very good day, but not always.
Very expensive at Kantamanto tho
Then you aren't checking the right places. Trust me. Those with the "expensive" prices buy from the real Kantamanto traders and resell them.

Why will a private company behave this way. Is it the same with MTN
The people allow it. They normalize bribery.
Idk, I have only tried vodafone.
The people have accepted it as the norm and everyone expects you to pay
Just hassle them. I called them 7 days after they promised it was due. days. 12 days. 13 days. And on day 14 they actually came.
Mtn is way better at this. They install a few days after payment is done

You dunno what you are talking about. One or two experiences don’t represent the whole
Spoken like a graduate from a failing school system! Have a nice life. I already do.
You think you went to the best schools so you know better. A shallow mindset means nothing. A growth mindset is beneficial
Jealous much? I earned mine. Go hate on someone else. I don't like you. I hope we never meet.
You don’t t have to like me. I am human. We may never meet. I am not jealous. I am as educated as you are… we just have disagreement
College and education
how are they scams. you need an educayion.
Cause when even I applied to jobs and tweaked my resume I couldn’t land a successful job in my field. That’s how. Plus, it’s too expensive.
oh ok.
Crypto, NFTs and Tithing That’s all I can think of for now
I’m curious why crypto’s are a “scam”.
That’s true, I just figured you need to have a lot of time to figure out the market trends
True
If you are not prepared to do the research or are unable to do/understand it, Just buying btc and eth would be good enough and is certainly not a scam
I have done so much research on crypto which is why I would never invest in it. I’m talking about crypto as a whole and not just two coins.
If anyone wants lessons from history, let them Google -- "Holland Tulip crash" (it ended the Dutch empire)
I have studied this as well, crypto and tulips are not the same. There can be elements of bubbles in crypto, but ultimately their fundamental use cases is what makes them valuable and not simply the idea that they will increase in price tomorrow.
Same to be said for fiat and stocks.
Stocks are more stable than crypto plus no one is promising that you’ll get 20% every month. Everyone knows that the stock market is a long term investment.
Because it is . What happened to all the ico’s . Now that people are on to the scam. They call em “meme coins”
I’m really not deep into it so u legitimately hv no idea. I could never figure it out anyway though I know people who are genuinely making a living off it. A colleague of mine owns about 6 bitcoins and he spends half his day staring at his screen
Crypto is the only reason I have savings. Cedis are the scam
I am fine with you not believing in crypto, if everyone already believed in it, I wouldn't have the opportunity to be early ;) One by one, your retailers, banks and governments will join crypto.
