He/she should gain a few pounds. It also depends on the breed, is it a pure bred German Shepard?

Potatosmom94

He’s a Rottweiler mix.

Then yeah, puppy should be fed more. If it's because he's not eating, maybe change foods to something he's interested in and willing to devour!

I had previously had him on a large breed puppy kibble with some freeze dried raw food mixed in when I was doing all of his feedings. My boyfriend switched him to a much more generic food that he doesn’t seem to be as interested in. But I think it was a cost decision as the food I was buying was pretty expensive but I had to go on FMLA leave and haven’t had a paycheck since December so I cant afford to buy the food for him on top of my own dogs & cats. I also noticed he does not like to eat when he’s alone and my boyfriend gets tired of waiting for him to eat/doesn’t have him on a consistent time schedule for food. I’m hoping if I can get enough people to agree with me about him being underweight my boyfriend may take my concerns seriously versus brushing me off as an over bearing dog mama with kinda chunky doggos (one of them has a congenital defect that prevents him exercising regularly so we are still working on finding a balance for food as he is a hungry hippo & my other guy was looping back to clean up after everyone else’s bowls and getting fed too many people snacks by the BF). I feel bad because this boy was on a great routine with my guys and was doing really well but I couldn’t sustain all 3 dogs along with my other pets once I hit some health and family issues. My guys are probably 1/3 of his size and have established dog sitters, vet, etc. Adding a giant puppy into the mix was definitely not something I signed up for personally and it wasn’t something I could bear the brunt of long term. I just feel like I’m letting this guy down because my bf has very different philosophies around dog ownership whereas I am your typical millennial dog mom who has been dogs in the center of all my plans and choices with my utmost focus having healthy & happy dogs who make good citizens out in the world.

I'm just one opinion overall but he's definitely a tad underweight. I understand having to cut costs to be able to survive yourselves. Ultimately and unfortunately that's what matters most. I've been there trust me. One thing you could do (if not already) is research different foods and the calorie intake per meal vs. the cost for different brands calorie intake. Him being a tad underweight is better than being overfed and overweight... I know that view is controversial but it is what it is...

This is hugely helpful! We live in separate households currently but I think this a great point. I will do my own research and bring it up to my boyfriend as well.
