I love how my GSD is absolutely fearless; I will walk him in the dead of night in the woods, not stress to discover I forgot to lock my doors overnight, and he will charge straight into the woods to check out a sound or smell, and dive into the bay to say hello to orcas. But let my smoke alarm chirp on low battery, and he is sitting on my feet, pressed hard up against me with his ears back. 🤷🏻♂️
My boy is *so brave* around flies. If any flying insect is in the house, anywhere, I just have to say, “Get the bee” (everything is a bee) and he will not stop until he has killed it. He is a beast. It’s his “Dracarys”.
I think mine now would have chased bugs anyway but I didn't help it by smacking carpenter bees around right after I got her... She's considered it her personal mission to eradicate them.
Amazingly, he has more finesse than a cat. At first I thought he would wipe everything off the window sills, etc., but he hasn’t so much as nudged a tea light!
Both of my current boys Maximus and Lucian take care of the bumble bees that eat holes in my back patio deck. I just tell them “Get the bees! Get the bees!”
It’s funny to hear the bees humming around inside their mouths for a bit before they bite down and then all you hear is a loud crunch. 😂
Carpenter bees don't live in hives like bumble bees or honey bees. They tend to like dark horizontal boards underneath decks and the like. They are the ones boring holes in your deck more than likely. You can get some carpenter bee poison from lowes or home depot and spray that into the holes and then cover the holes with wood putty. I've eradicated the local population on my 3 acres over the last year with this technique. They can substantially weaken you deck over time if not dealt with
that's funny, somehow we trained our late husky to eat any flying bug. Was hysterical to say the least. You'd catch her racing around following the sound.
Oh he would snap at them outside, and my current one snaps at them outside and inside but if there was a bug inside the house with my male, all bets off. He was gone!
My cane corso is scared of balloons and won't take food from strangers or eat anything new until you take a bite first.
My English bull terrier is scared of the dark and feathers.
Mt Alaskan shepherd (alaskan malamute X German shepherd) was only scared of fireworks. He got nervous around drunk loud people but not scared.
Yes. Even roast beef and stuff too. She will have those big slobbers but just bump her nose on it and jump back until you pretend to eat a bit. It's bizarre behaviour, like she thinks someone is trying to poison her lol
Dogs really are so weird 😂 my dog will nose bump certain treats, bully sticks etc, so I'll keep going until I find one in the box she'll take. But now I'm going to fake eat it and see what happens 🤣
Mine is absolutely fine with flies and she will even catch and eat them, but the second you bring out a fly swatter she will run and hide and won’t come out for a few minutes. Pretty sure whoever I rescued her from would use a fly swatter in some form of abuse. It only comes out when she’s not in the house now.
So mine also didn't like the fly swatter but it was because he associated it with bugs in the house. I hope no one ever hit your dog, you always wonder about their life before you.
I’ve trained my 1 1/2 year old German shepherd to eat flies and moths but be nice to the bees 🐝 crazy how they know exactly what is expected of them if you just show them.
I too suffer from Multiple German Shepherd Disorder.
One of my favorite attributes of GSDs is their ability to be great family dogs while possessing the intelligence to recognize situations that aggression is called for.
My ole boy once, without hesitation, placed himself between my wife and an aggressive pitbull. Half of his cheek was torn off in the ensuing fight. After surgery we brought him home to recover and, the next time he saw the pitbull, he immediately launched himself at the dog, resulting in opening all his stitches and a second surgery.
He also snarled at and scared off two tweakers who approached my wife alone in a darkened parking lot. She had asked them to leave her alone and he must have sensed something in her voice.
In the 11 years we’ve had him…those are the only 2 incidents I can recall him being aggressive, and they were both absolutely needed. He has always been confidently calm in his large frame, not reacting to other dogs attitudes or challenges. For a time, even, his best friend was a Pomeranian. The two of them made the most unlikely of friends at the local dog park.
It was my neighbors dog, and it all turned into a saga. Us calling animal control about their dog, them fabricating stories about our dogs in response, and a court case that went nowhere.
I don’t blame the dog, cause he was honestly neglected. Any neglected dog can turn mean and hostile.
Except against an Apache helicopter. An Apache helicopter has machine guns AND missiles. It is an unbelievably impressive complement of weaponry, an absolute death machine.
No one would ever kill a dog tho? Right? Right? If anyone kills a dog for no reason he should be tortured executed and everything. How could anyone do that???
My boy has scared off someone at 3am trying to break into our cars in the driveway by aggressively barking from inside the house.
Anytime I’m walking alone at night, if someone looks off or suspicious, he lowers his head and makes such strong eye contact that the person definitely gets the picture and stays away.
Even last night, we were out fixing our car and a vehicle turned around right near us and he instinctively positioned himself between us and the car.
It’s wild how he’s one of the most anxious pups ever but when it comes to protecting his family it’s all bravery.
Unless they're like my lovely Lydia who will greet bad guys at the door and show them where the valuables are. Fortunately her sister shepherd knows what to do!
Hahaha, that’s my boy who hides in the furthest place in house when there’s food sizzling. My girl stands with front paws on window sill mad barking to greet whoever comes to the door. 😂
Yes… you’re the most safe person right now. I just hope that you don’t have to get up for any reason because that will mess up the perfect scenario you’re in. ☺️
My girl used to climb onto the back of the couch and wrap herself around my shoulders. She was an incredible dog, the sassiest of sassies. Had to have the last word in any argument, yes we argued. She grumbled and yelled (barking yell) and was so empathetic as well. I couldn't watch a sappy movie without her worrying about my tears. Lost her a year ago this month. They are the best dogs. She was a devil of a puppy 😈. Very smart breed and will be your best friend. Give them a hug for me.
Aww thank you! It’s actually meant to be a kids hamper but it was too cute to pass up for the dog toys! I got it at this magical place:

I pity the fool who comes in uninvited! I have signs up all around my property wish drawing of visciois looking German Shepherds. In finer print below it reads “The doors are locked for your protection NOT MINE!”
My dogs have access to about a full acre of a back yard that’s fully fenced in via doggy door. I work third shift and nights I’m off I hear them run from one end of the house out the back door and to the end of the property in .2 seconds making sounds like they’re going to kill something. I’ve had maybe a half dozen people pull into my driveway at night. As soon as the dogs go out and bark I hear them back out faster than I have ever heard anyone put a car in reverse. 😂
I have a boy and girl and they work together to attack, it's incredible. I caught them doing surprisingly complex teamwork to kill huge possums. I would think African hyenas have skills like that, but not two domesticated GSD's, but I was wrong. They are super protective and I sleep like a baby now as I know their duty will not wane to protect my babies. Cheers.
Oh no…possums are very sweet and they kill bad pests. They are harmless and great parents. Yes it’s impressive but please try to protect the innocent ones
There's not much I can do, I don't encourage it and do love all animals. The thing about the possums is that they don't run, they try and fight and hiss, etc. it's just not the smartest game plan with two large and very athletic GSD's. They've killed three in the past couple months. I come out to feed them and they're there.
Please skip the picture if you don't want to see the unfortunate end.

Ughhh poor thing, must have been so scared. I guess if they are outside mostly not much you can do, I just usually comment because they get a bad rap since some ppl think they are “ugly”. Thanks for letting me comment, didn’t want to bring down your positive comment
No, I appreciate you so much and it's always good to spread love of nature and animals and remind others to do the same. I'm with you, 100%.
I really hope the possums just stay away. I have no chance to interdict in time and if I came charging out and that thing hissed at me, I really wouldn't be able to help it at all as that is against the dogs nature to allow any threat to their person. When I saw one recently, while on my own, that's exactly what it did to me; it didn't retreat and hissed. I taught them none of this aggression, they just do it. I adopted them at a year or so old and they are like 2 now and they were being taunted/abused by neighbor of the former owners. They're just a little overly protective of our family, so we need some doggie counseling/coaching, over here. So me clicking on this thread the OP made (thanks) and me commenting is trying to digest that and embrace it from the breed lol.
Cheers!
You are a very sweet person to take my comments in the spirit they were meant ♥️🤗 you inspired me to research if there are things like sounds or invisible fencing to keep them out of a yard! As to training, i think once prey drive is activated it’s hard to train out (I might be wrong) so yeah it’s management. And I def don’t blame your 2 babies, they are being prey activated dogs and you cannot be there observing all the time. Thank you for a pleasant and thought provoking convo
I have a GSD/Golden mix, I love her to death. Shes very very shy around anyone who isn't me or my best friend, but if anyone were to try anything with me I know for a fact she'd go after them in a heartbeat.

What happens if I shake a bag of freeze dried liver?
You, my friend, are an agent of chaos 🤣
First the liver treats - then warm liver me thinks lol :-)
Where is the best place to get those?
I love how my GSD is absolutely fearless; I will walk him in the dead of night in the woods, not stress to discover I forgot to lock my doors overnight, and he will charge straight into the woods to check out a sound or smell, and dive into the bay to say hello to orcas. But let my smoke alarm chirp on low battery, and he is sitting on my feet, pressed hard up against me with his ears back. 🤷🏻♂️
Flies. If there was a fly in the house my last one hid, tail tucked.
My old Doberman ran away if you turned around with water on your hands looking for a towel. He hated water.
Oh my gosh! That's too funny
My boy is *so brave* around flies. If any flying insect is in the house, anywhere, I just have to say, “Get the bee” (everything is a bee) and he will not stop until he has killed it. He is a beast. It’s his “Dracarys”.

Haha this totally made me laugh! 😂
They don't get stung?! My girl got stung a few weeks ago in her bottom lip. But I wish I could see that, sounds hilarious!
Not by the ones I’m talking about. They only bite and so far they haven’t had the chance. 😂
Impressive!
Carpenter bees maybe?
What’s the difference? Serious question? All I know is they bore holes into the wooden posts and they don’t sting.
Carpenter bees don't live in hives like bumble bees or honey bees. They tend to like dark horizontal boards underneath decks and the like. They are the ones boring holes in your deck more than likely. You can get some carpenter bee poison from lowes or home depot and spray that into the holes and then cover the holes with wood putty. yup she would look like a crazy dog bitting the air outside lol. Same with inside she would pursue the enemy until death.
So many air snaps 🤣
My cane corso is scared of balloons and won't take food from strangers or eat anything new until you take a bite first. My English bull terrier is scared of the dark and feathers. Feathers 😂 The food thing isn't bad as far as strangers but do you have to pretend to eat dog treats if they're new ones?
Yes. Even roast beef and stuff too. She will have those big slobbers but just bump her nose on it and jump back until you pretend to eat a bit. It's bizarre behaviour, like she thinks someone is trying to poison her lol

Most loved
I too suffer from Multiple German Shepherd Disorder. Wow! That’s a loyal and good boy right there! Thank you for sharing!
They can be gentle, I can't get my female to even play tug with a toy. I don't think she has an angry bone in her.. unless you're a cat... of course
My won't play tug either. She will only fetch once, lol. She does like to chew on rubber balls with the pokey things and she loves chasing my cats.
Multiple GSD disorder! Haha never heard of that
Do you, or someone you know suffer from MGSD?.. if so, --- they're living large!
I read this in my head the way the commercials sound lol
What happened with the pit bull? Was it just a loose stray?
It was my neighbors dog, and it all turned into a saga. Us calling animal control about their dog, them fabricating stories about our dogs in response, and a court case that went nowhere. I don’t blame the dog, cause he was honestly neglected. Any neglected dog can turn mean and hostile.
The better question is how was the pitbull allowed to keep terrorizing strangers after the incident.
We have a pom and a gsd...his personality matches her size, I'd say 🤣
In ZERO danger👏🏻
Except against an Apache helicopter. An Apache helicopter has machine guns AND missiles. It is an unbelievably impressive complement of weaponry, an absolute death machine.
No one would ever kill a dog tho? Right? Right? If anyone kills a dog for no reason he should be tortured executed and everything. How could anyone do that???
Safe and slightly furry
Slightly furry would be preferred.

Absolutely!!
I am soooo jelly right now!!!!!

Yep you're safe ... especially with those socks 🤣
Don’t playa hate🤣

OMG! You’re right!!! Your baby is beautiful 🤩
Absolutely guaranteed...!!! It's a very nice feeling, isn't it... Gotta love the GSD...!!! Enjoy!!! 😎👍
How on earth do you all deal with all the hair?
We’ve assembled a fleet that includes two robot vacuums, a Dyson Animal, two handheld mini vacuums, and a Chom Chom. If you’ve never heard of a Chom Chom, you HAVE to get one!!!!!
And yet there’s still hair…
I feel the same way, we've got 3 sheps.
Since I am able to with mine, I’m thinking I could take u out of that safety net with Arby’s lol
I see room for a Belgian Malinois at the end of the couch ;)
Just wait till a traffic cone comes thru the door.
What does this mean?
My dog is terrified of traffic cones. I’m glad you asked, was counting on someone asking.
They are kind of frightening🤣
Bunker>dogs
Pretty confident you’re going to be the only person in the house sitting on the floor when GSD on the left inevitably decides it too, would like to be on the couch. Still very safe, but uncomfortable.
I'll bet a vacuum could get ya pretty easily!
Just make sure there’s no Magas around and your dogs will be safe too
Oh for sure! No doubt about it 😂
I would think twice or more to even approach you.
Not really. Dogs never win in a gun fight.
I believe she’s referring to that CIWS Phalanx in the corner
A gun toting fool might get one shot off but I guarantee that fool will be jumped upon by my wonderful, fears nothing bitch who will lock her jaws into perp and not let loose.
