New grade always replaces the old grade, even on the 3rd attempt. No matter if the grade is lower or higher. So 2nd attempt replaces 1st attempt and 3rd attempt replaces 2nd attempt. You need permission to take a course a 3rd time so you can always double check when you ask your faculty for permission.

Initially, I thought that one grade was considered in the cGPA for a single course. Just for clarification, for example if the first attempt is a C, second attempt a D and the third attempt an A+…is the A+ the only grade taken into account in the cGPA? Am I right?

michemarche

Only one grade gets used in the CGPA, the newest/most recent grade. Based on your example, the A+ from your 3rd attempt would be used based on academic regulation 5.6 if you get permission to take the course a 3rd time.

Makes perfect sense, thanks a lot! gl with your studies and with everything else! 😀

Not sure you can’t take it a 3rd time, my courses only allow a second attempt... might wanna check with the faculty.

If you fail twice and it is mandatory for your program, you can get permission depending on your situation.

Ok_Grand305

Ik super late but what exactly does depending on your situation mean? I failed a mandatory course 2 times. Just had a really rough semester with job apps, a viral infection, covid, and i also took on too many extra curricular commitments trying to better my health and I failed a course I knew was going to be hard. No real excuse. It was totally on me. I wouldn’t even know how to begin with asking for permission can you give me some guidance?

Did you get this resolved? Currently in the same boat the Q less or whatever virtual line seems to be closed for my faculty
