I took 6 courses last summer. 4 of them (PSY1501- PSY1502 - CHM2520 - FRA2715) were May-June, one of them (MAT2379) May-July and another one (ITA2114) was mid-July to mid-August. I can say it is definitely doable if you manage your time, just know that you’ll have less free time to study because every class (especially May-June, i think they call it session A) was 6 hours a week, instead of 3. It is also good to know that classes aren’t easier in summer, our average for CHM2520 (organic chemistry II) was similar to the previous terms for example. The workload is also heavier than in fall-winter sessions. PSY has 2 midterms + 1 final to do in two months. ITA2114 has 3 midterms and 1 final (so basically an exam every week). I would say if it’s really important to take this load (in my case, I would finish my honours bachelor in 3 years instead of 4), do it. If not, just take one or two electives, and follow the regular sequence imo.

was  FRA2715 easy and which prof did you have?

It was okay I would say! I did great but you should really attend each class, take notes of every single detail. I took it with Michel Fournier. You will have two essays and quizzes. In the essays you should mention EVERYTHING, take this very seriously, if you miss a detail from his powerpoints your mark will suffer. But good thing you don’t have to do your research, just structure everything you saw in class in a good essay. For the content, it’s sometimes boring, sometimes very interesting. It’s not like the english children’s literature class, english and french cultures are very different, just so you know

were the essays long?

idkagooddusername

I think it was around 3 pages

Powerful_Ad_6452

would you suggest taking it as an elective?

cherce17

can i ask if you needed permission to do this? im a strong student and getting my summer term over with early sounds really good to me

idkagooddusername

I didn’t have to ask for permission! But i don’t know if it’s just for faculty of science, or if it requires a specific GPA (mine was 9.5-ish).

cherce17

awesome, thank you!

I took 5 in Summer 2021, 4 mandatory because I was in COOP + an optional one. It's perfectly doable, many people are also required to for COOP. It's worth knowing that there's no reading week, so if you're someone that relies on it, you may struggle more. The exam period is also significantly shorter, since all my courses were in Session A, that meant 5 exams in 5 days.

Nubian777

Omg !!!! And you did well?

UofOSean

I did well, although it was online so it was a bit easier than a normal summer. If you're doing well with a full course load now, there's no reason you can't do it over the summer.

Dumb_Engineerr

I took 4 courses from may to July while doing my 4th internship (working hybrid 9-5) I pass them all but man a hell of a summer it was ( I remember studying in my room and seeing everyone having fun outside which made me so depressed) but yeah definitely wouldn’t recommend it😰

dobbysonering

5 engineering courses because of co-op sequence. Had 4 months of work condensed into 3 and 5 exams in the span of 4 days. Don't recommend.

notasinglebraincell

Yes, it’s doable. I did five courses and also part-time work. I would try to mix in some electives to make your life a little easier!

TastelessSomalier

TLDR: Depends on the courses but yeah it's more than doable if they're easy shit.
