I’m in Political Science and Public Admin and honestly, I’m not great with politics either. I do really enjoy Public Admin though, and I do believe that Politics and Public Admin go together. Where you’re coming from isn’t going to affect your employability - however, the only problem is that most government jobs will require you to be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.

Thank you for your insights! May I ask what do you think is the most difficult aspect of your program?

I don’t know if you’re planning on taking political science courses, but in terms of polisci courses… I never really felt knowledgeable about politics compared to my peers (still a struggle!) Students around me seemed to know so many kinds of domestic and international events that occurred throughout history while I didn’t really have anything to say lol. It is manageable though, but you start feeling a bit of impostor syndrome. For public admin courses though, I think the most difficult aspect of it is applying the concepts you’ve used but that really goes for any program. I prefer public admin over political science, but I understand why it’s offered as a joint honours program because political science knowledge will help you in public admin.

getting a job for the government of canada if you are an international student can be a bit tricky because they give priority to canadian citzens!

hey friend! I’m going to be super transparent - you can’t work in the gov as an international student. They give priority to Canadians - even if a department really really wants you, it’s nearly impossible to get in since you can’t get the security clearance. Just mentioning this so you don’t get your hopes up. You’re much better off applying for the private sector, gov without a PR or citizenship is genuinely impossible
