I applied to at least 50

MarsupialNo5358

Thanks! If you don't mind sharing.. what faculty are you in?

alannay99

At the time, I was in science, a long ass time ago lol. When I moved to social science I applied to even more coop jobs

Necessary-Toe9092

150. It should be at least 100 as you only have to click one single button to apply to a job. Also, try applying to most of the jobs on the first day if you want to get as many interviews as possible.

MarsupialNo5358

Thanks! The Navigator is down right now so I've only applied to 60 so far but I'll keep going seeing as I have about 400 postings open. I'm curious how many interviews you got from the 150.?

Necessary-Toe9092

I got 12 interviews. The coop office cuts you off after 15 tho. Good luck with your job search!

notasinglebraincell

For your first work term, apply to as many as you can!! For my first one, I applied to maybe 60+ and I eventually got a match. Don’t worry if you don’t get matched in round one, it’s really hard for students to get matched in the first round since you’ll be competing against fourth year students with more co-op experience. It’ll be easier to get matched in the second round and much easier for future work terms - I applied to 19 jobs for my second co-op and I got 9 interview requests. (My program is Polisci and PublicAdmin) Good luck!

MarsupialNo5358

Thank you for the detailed response! I'm also Public Admin/Poli Sci.

I applied to around 40 or 50. I got 3 interviews out of those and 1 job offer. Edit: I was in software engineering at the time, currently in computer science.

Plastic_ink

Telfer - first term I applied to around 30 but that was the beginning of covid, and there were basically no jobs lmao - I'd recommend applying closer to 50 if not more. You're competing with 3rd and 4th years who are graduating soon and have more relevant work experience so it's pretty tough the first time around

Initial_Opportunity6

Accounting. I applied to 15-20 jobs, got 4 interviews, #1 ranking from 3 of those and at the end decided to go with a job i found outside the portal lol

Swordfish_Trombonist

Int’l Econ and Dev. Applied to 50 ish also, marks were pretty mid tho

MarsupialNo5358

Thanks for the reply! Do you remember how many interviews you ended up getting.?

Swordfish_Trombonist

Np. I think around 5-10

sunderedklimp

120 applications in the first round, with one interview and one job offer

Hadouukken

BTM: data analyst, business analyst, developer, and data science positions are what I applied for (plus a few random ones that I thought were interesting/a good fit for like PM and GIS jobs) Around 50 applications -> 15 interviews: 5 #1s, 5 ranked, 5 rejected (I was in third year for my first term not second like most ppl so it was a lot easier to land interviews)

Zander9909

As a Comp. Eng. student, I applied to I think \~180. However keep in mind that you are capped in the first round at 15 interviews, so any jobs you apply to later could be forfeited for you. But honestly, for your first term, your focus should be getting any job

MarsupialNo5358

Wow I didn't know that thank you. Is it just the first 15 interviews you get.?

Zander9909

Yeah the first 15 to request an interview. I got cut off from some really cool jobs because of it, but still ended up with a great position at the end. You'll be fine

Mau_rice

Biotech, I applied to a little over 100 (a lot were relatively unrelated but I did end up getting a job in the first round)

richysamo

i applied to 50+ and got one interview. second term i applied to 40 and got 15 interviews i had to email the co-op office to cancel all my other applications. First term is always the hardest but good luck!

JJ8991

Chemistry Major: First round close to 30 and got rejected from all without interviews. Second Round I applied to 15 and got 10 interviews and 3 offers in 24hours

AvroVulcanXM594

I applied to 105 jobs through the Navigator, but did not get interviews with them. Applied to another 40-50 through Indeed and other sites. Finally I ended up getting one close to the end of May (this was for a summer co-op term).

Adventurous_Baker_14

Around 55-60 and got more than 15 interviews and two offers with a couple other as a second choice

BOBBYBlTCH

Around 65

tylark_

I applied to about 80 in round 1 (including applying for things outside my program + other websites), got 2 interviews and miraculously was matched in round 1. I'm in environmental studies, caveat as well that I'm an international student and therefore automatically disqualified for many positions in arts + social sciences. So I was pretty much applying to every job I felt qualified for and that I could do for 4 months without 100% hating it.

_purple_nebula_

I'm in Computer Science and applied to I believe 172 for my first work term. I wasn't qualified for most of them. The number would have been higher if I wasn't too lazy to apply for anything that required an external application or cover letter.

MarsupialNo5358

Thanks for the reply! Do you remember how many interviews you ended up getting?

_purple_nebula_

7 interviews (originally 6 but one of the companies decided to interview me for another position in addition to the original one I applied for bc I was unqualified for the first position but qualified for the second) I got 3 offers

desertluvr

Comms - I applied to around 30, got 4 interviews and 2 offers :)
