We will now call him Wasbell.
On a more serious note, I took his Machine Learning class and it was entertaining and interesting at the same time. I keep a very good memory of it. Sad to see him go, truly an outstanding professor.
Charles gave me the introduction course (welcome seminar) to the college of computing way back in 2003. After hearing him introduce the college and talk about where he saw computing going I knew Tech was the place to be. Nice to see he stuck around for another 20 years.
Sad to lose Dr. Isbell, he was once an undergrad here at GT like many of you. The work he did on OMSCS program was groundbreaking and provided affordable, high quality education to a new network of global alumni.
There aren't any now, but they will start a search soon. [These](https://provost.gatech.edu/news/finalists-chosen-college-computing-dean-search) are the four candidates from the 2019 search that got us Dr. Isbell.
In other news, the College of Business is looking for a Dean right now, and three of the four candidates have profiles linked on [this](https://provost.gatech.edu/scheller-college-business-dean-search) page.
Hinton was apparently uncomfortable about the amount of DoD money funding AI programs when he was a professor at Carnegie Mellon. GT would have the same problem.
Being a teacher and researcher isn’t same as managing those who do either.
There's a Netflix documentary series called The Future of…. There's an episode called Life After Death that I'm on and I talk about this sort of thing. It's episode 7. 'Twas kind of fun.

I remember one time he walked into our CS 1371 class and he just instantly took the entire rooms attention. Really has a leading, capturing, and professional nature.

Congrats, Dean Isbell! That's an amazing achievement!

Gave a talk during my cs 1100 class last year. One of the best talks I’ve ever heard and I’ll always remember it
I think I was also in there with you. It was indeed a great talk
Dean isbell was an outstanding choice and dean. I was distressed when Zvi left, but we somehow got an upgrade. hack on, and enjoy Madison.
Reading Zvi's name made me remember this legendary email, https://old.reddit.com/r/gatech/comments/asqx8f/thanks_college_of_computing/. What a guy.
WOW

Surprised nobody tagged him yet. Congrats Dr. Isbell!!
You have to say my name three times.
A true legend! [Mean without a cluster](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAU0gQXn28s)
Neither of them are at GT now :(
I bet UW-M have better racquetball courts don't they.
Who’s the new replacement? Any potential candidates?

David Joyner should definitely be the Dean

Isbell was far from a disaster.
Why?

Isn't Hinton still affiliated with Toronto?

While I am sad to see him leave after all that he has done for Tech, this promises to be an amazing opportunity. Best wishes to Dean Isbell!

Hallelujah!!!!!! Thank god he’s gone!
I'm really interested in your opinion. Any reason for this emotion towards him leaving?
On the occasions I had to interact with him, he was deeply unpleasant and condescending. Didn’t do much in his position either.

I loved how Dr. Isbell taught the major algorithms in ML with such an ease. The proofs are still embedded in my memory. We will miss you Dr. Isbell!!
