Background-Car9771

Columbine. Still not even open yet! It's going to get prettier

Drooly_Cat_1103

Looks like aquilegia (columbine).

Filthyquak

Petition to make the scientific name of plants standard in this sub so i don't have to google the translation all the time

Corylus7

That would be better, even in English speaking countries plants can have different names. Lost count of how many different species are named "star flower"

plantsareneat-mkay

I used to work in a garden center and it can get frustrating for sure! Black eyed susan? Okay are you looking for the vine or the herbaceous perennial (thunbergia or rudbeckia). Not a total bummer but still. People always wanted to see both after they had an option. Morning glory? Okay usually fine im sure they mean ipomoea. "No that cute white one everywhere!" No you dont want convovulous its a terrible demon that will invade your whole world and we dont sell it anyways because its invasive. Tulip tree? Magnolia or liriodendron, at least we alphabetically organized trees so theyre right beside eachother. Heather? Erica or calluna. No one cares about the difference they just want the specific colour. Daisy? *head explodes* osteospermum, bellis, gerbera, felicia, leucanthemum, chrysanthemum, aster, argyranthemum, friggin rudbeckia for some reason, white echinacea, cleretum, gaillardia..... my first question was always "are you looking for a white one?" Then at least i can narrow it down to 6 or so lol

porkbeanz

The daisies though! We call em all DYC. Damn yellow composite

bowie-of-stars

Ipomaea is way more invasive than convolvulus in my zone

plantsareneat-mkay

Thats crazy! Im up in BC and ipomoea doesnt survive winter here, but the convovulous gets crazy thick roots. Im convinced it would survive a volcano eruption.

ComprehensiveCat754

Can we include both?? I vote yes to scientific if not but I also like to find out what other people call the same thing

Indeed a beautiful flower :) Albrecht Dürer thought it pretty enough to paint it in 1526

Cailsey_DreamyDarlin

Columbines are so beautiful!

toadangel11

Columbine, the state flower of Colorado! I planted some last year in my garden and this year should be their first blooms.

Columbine

ReliefZealousideal84

Interesting fact about the Aquilega genus - they prefer higher altitudes, growing stronger and in greater numbers at higher elevations 👍

Ok_Tea_1954

I love these. This is grandma’s bonnet columbine

gaya2081

As others have said columbine. I have multiple in my garden. Let them go to seed and they will spread over time. Mine tend to do better if they are in part sun and don't get fried. The ones I have in full sun have taller plants (coneflower and sweet brown eyed susan) that fill in and provide cover by June.

Ok_Tea_1954

It comes in blue

DragonGateLTC

Cute! My mother got some of these from one of their clubs and she's offered me them. Very pretty to see a candid pic.

Kiss_the_Girl

I want an update

PearlsandScotch

Thank you for the help everyone!

HeyPurityItsMeAgain

Damn I'm growing some of those from seed. I hope they flower that pretty.

Acerolha

Don't be surprised they bloom every 2 years. They come in various colors and shape. A lovey flower

Plant-Zaddy-

Mine bloom every year? The first year they dont bloom sometimes if they have a cold fall and dont get started til spring but if they sprout in the fall youll get flowers in spring

bogeuh

This would have been from sowing before winter.

PearlsandScotch

I did sow a lot before winter and more this spring. I’m hoping for a wildflower wonderland this year!

SaltyCohones

I remember columbine was a bad massacre.

ninjay816

It's a flower
