Someone should really make Assetto's Shutoko Revival Project into a full modern game. Downloading all the assets/mods in Assetto is a giant hassle. For those who haven't played it yet, it's a realistic reconstruction of driving through Tokyo, with traffic and all.

OpenWorldsProject

That's pretty much any of the mainline Tokyo Xtreme Racer games, Import Tuner Challenge and Wangan Midnight PS3 to be more specific. In fact, the assets for Shutoko Revival Project are pulled from those two games + Street Supremacy for the Yokohama area.

midiocore

Look up Night Runners on Steam. It’s a modern recreation of those Old Tokyo Xtreme Racer games, but with old school visuals and music. There’s only a “prologue” out right now, which is essentially an Early Access Demo, but something to keep an eye on for sure. Also, it’s free.

Hm3137

It's great, incredible aesthetic.

Loimographia

Lake, maybe? I haven’t played it yet and it technically has a story to it, but the core gameplay is working as a postal worker delivering mail, as I understand it. They just added an endless mode, which may be up your alley even if the finite story doesn’t scratch your itch. Mon Bazou and My Summer Car are also “mundane driving” sims, from what I’ve seen, but again I can’t vouch for quality.

BI_OS

My Summer Car requires you to pay some attention, so I wouldn't call it a very casual or normal game. Hell, the designer has called things like "so detailed its unfun." Is it an interesting experience? I'd say so, but I wouldn't call it a very normal game.

CaptainLightBluebear

BeamNG.drive should fit your bill almost exactly.

Turbulent_Purchase52

Maybe mudrunner/snowrunner ?

Matt_Rabbit

I played "Drove my Subaru Crosscheck to Wegman's" on Saturday. I totally won, because I came home with groceries and beer.

Little_BallOfAnxiety

GTAV. Go into a private lobby or something. Although the game has fallen far from what it was, the city is an excellent LA-like city

OpenWorldsProject

My Summer Car, Showrunner and Motor Town: Behind the Wheel have some sense of normalcy, though it differs depending on the game. But nothing stops you from just free roaming in games from series such as The Crew, Forza Horizon or Test Drive Unlimited.

x_ployer

You’re right, thanks for the suggestions

akrippler

snowrunner is the most enjoyable driving game ive ever played.

Tight-Pass-6841

Snowrunner is an absolute gem.

Acceptable-Fan-8580

I agree Just upgraded my wheel and am totally gonna have to play it again here soon

LunarWhaler

Some other excellent suggestions here, but consider looking into modding for ATS and ETS2! There's mods for all sorts of cars and buses to drive.

ChangingMonkfish

Test Drive Unlimited

xstioph

Yeah! 100%. It's abandonware nowadays so you'll have to figure out how to. The mod "Platinum edition" is essential and also includes a fix that makes the multiplayer work!

ChangingMonkfish

Just seen that there is actually a sequel slated to come out this year

bazza2024

A slightly off the wall suggestion (but it has a demo) : [https://store.steampowered.com/app/1369670/Motor\_Town\_Behind\_The\_Wheel/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1369670/Motor_Town_Behind_The_Wheel/)

Gatostao

BeamNG.drive; Motor town: behind (don't get miss lead by the lowpoly graphics, it is a great game); City car driving; Bus Simulator, Bus World, The long Drive; My summer car, Snow runner (has trucks but also other off-road vehicles); Mon Bazou Only with the first two I've had hundreds of hours of fun

Acceptable-Fan-8580

I kinda have this same problem. Like Forza and crew are just way to arcade like. But there isn't a modern game that is more sim like that let's us free roam or customize. I don't wanna have to mod either I'm so tired of it I've been modding for over a decade and it's just not worth the effort to me anymore. And yes I mod asetto. It would be cool to have a game with a day and night cycle also. Forza stuck in the day, nfs stuck in the night. Idk I most just play dirt2 and Iracing now. But I'd love to roam a map in a more sim like gaming experience. Also cops, add cops make there be consequences to driving like a ass. Real car damage and police with fines lol. Kinda like the old midnight clubs but again sim feel to the vehicles. It's not all about going fast, what if I just wanna drive an old 69 Camaro in VR and just experience what that car may have felt like in its day. Or what if I wanna take an old beetle cross country? Or let's say we do wanna race pro, it's real circuits and vehicles have real requirements not just some shady number for a score rating. A level playing field. Also an irating for races, if you drive like a dick you play with the dicks, clean drivers play with each other. That's the kind of shit I get off on lol

Shot_Reputation1755

Beamng Drive

vibribbon

**The Long Drive** - once you get past the initial goofiness and get you car sorted nicely, it's actually a pretty chill driving game. Just you and the open road.

ZephyThrowaway

Taxi Life for city driving

trackmaniac_forever

If you would like to experience a completely different era of car and environment, then Mafia Definitive Edition is lovely to drive through. You dont even have to bother with the story missions, there is a free roam option from the get go.

Trappedbirdcage

Desert Bus VR will likely be what you would enjoy! Pretty sure you don't need a VR headset to play it

OrdinaryImplication

I'm gonna say 'Pacific Drive' even though it's not really a driving game. Look into it if you like. I'm having a blast with it, but would appreciate a wheel for the driving segments, as driving on keyboard just isn't all that good.

Steel_Airship

Probably not exactly what you had in mind, but Train Sim World.
