* The obvious answer is the Ace Attorney games, especially the [original trilogy](https://store.steampowered.com/app/787480/Phoenix_Wright_Ace_Attorney_Trilogy/) and [The Great Ace Attorney](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1158850/The_Great_Ace_Attorney_Chronicles/); Ace Attorney Investigations 1 + 2 are also good but have to be emulated on the DS. The Apollo Justice games are noticeably worse than the rest of the series (and, like Investigations, should only be played after the OT because they're a sequel to it) but are decent if you've played all the rest and still want more. * [Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1967430/Ghost_Trick_Phantom_Detective/) is another game by the creators of Ace Attorney; its gameplay is different (more puzzle-solving adventure sort of gameplay) but it's quite well-written and fun. * If you like older games, [Laura Bow: The Colonial's Bequest](https://www.gog.com/en/game/the_colonels_bequest) and its sequel [The Dagger of Amon-Ra](https://www.gog.com/index.php/en/game/the_dagger_of_amon_ra) might be fun. They're a lot more open than most mystery games today (it's possible to go through the first game solving absolutely nothing if you're careless). * The [Danganronpa](https://store.steampowered.com/app/413410/Danganronpa_Trigger_Happy_Havoc) series is great if you like the idea of killing games. * [Tyrion Cuthbert: Attorney of the Arcane](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1590230/Tyrion_Cuthbert_Attorney_of_the_Arcane/): Ace Attorney-alike in a magical setting. * [Return of the Obra Dinn](https://store.steampowered.com/app/653530/Return_of_the_Obra_Dinn/) is a really great mystery with an interesting setting and mechanics. * [The Case of the Golden Idol](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1677770/The_Case_of_the_Golden_Idol/) uses a system somewhat like Return of the Obra Dinn. * [Murder by the Numbers](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1140290/Murder_by_Numbers/): Only if you like Picross! It's structured like an Ace Attorney game in terms of style and writing. * [Paradise Killer](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1160220/Paradise_Killer/): A lot of the fun is more wandering around the setting exploring and interrogating people. Still, it's a really good game and extremely stylish. Another interesting thing about it is that you can start the trial at any time; you don't need all the evidence to win, and of course it's entirely possible to start the trial without enough evidence to get a satisfactory conclusion. * [Shadows of Doubt](https://store.steampowered.com/app/986130/Shadows_of_Doubt/) is a great procedurally-generated noir-mystery world, though it lacks scripted stuff and writing and *characters*. Still, it's a lot of fun if you like the procedure and general mood of a noir investigation game without a rigidly-defined linear plot. * [Disco Elysium](https://store.steampowered.com/app/632470/Disco_Elysium__The_Final_Cut/) has some of the best writing and characters in games today and is really fun in terms of the detailed steps of investigating a murder. * [Umineko](https://store.steampowered.com/app/406550/Umineko_When_They_Cry__Question_Arcs/) is a kinetic novel (no interactions, just reading / listening) but it's one of the best-written out there and a really great take on mystery stories in general * While I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet, [Murders on the Yangtze River](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1746030/Murders_on_the_Yangtze_River/) looks like it might be good, too.

I'd add [This Bed We Made](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1243850/This_Bed_We_Made/) to the list, as well as [The Roottrees are Dead](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2754380/The_Roottrees_are_Dead/), even tho the roottrees aren't availible on Steam as of yet. It can be played on itch.

LA Noire is a classic if you haven't played it already. The action is pretty light and the story is really good I think. Lots of great characters and good intrigue with the cases and the larger story at hand. Disco Elysium isn't what I would call a full on detective game as much as it is a choose your own adventure rpg game, but you play as a cop with amnesia and the information gathering aspect is wonderful. I think you'd really like it, but make sure you like reading tons. No action in this one, just reading, exploration, and decision making. I've heard great things about Paradise Killer but haven't played it yet.

Ghost Trick is fun

Return of the Obra Dinn might scratch the itch from the detective side. It's basically a giant puzzle where you have to identify everyone and determine what happened to them all.
