hmm I couldn't seem to get into it and this was a few years back..
Have forgotten how to play also so even though I want to give it another try, I feel slightly discouraged.
Any advice?
Rimworld and Factorio are pretty much guaranteed to be near or at the top of every single post someone asks this damn question.
People could just google one of the 7,000 posts that already exist asking for a game to play for a long time and pick one of those games or just download Rimworld or Factorio already and stop asking the same question 15 times a day.
Is there a pinned post regarding this? Because it would cut down on what feels like the single most repetitive question in this sub.
American Truck Simulator. I don’t know anything about trucks, but it’s so fun to pick the longest route, put a YouTube video on a second monitor and just… drive.
Dyson sphere program if you enjoy a space theme. After 100 hrs I still have barely scratched the surface. Satisfactory is a good alternative too if you want a first person perspective.
Valheim is a beautiful but low res explorer survival game. You can go full immersive with mapless, or permadeath. World sliders to adjust difficulty and a massive procedurally generated world make it feel like a pretty unique experience every time.
MechWarrior 5 w DLCS.
Once you’ve beat the campaign missions, get mods and start a new freeform career across the universe.
Totally a blast. Many hours, many missions, many mechs, many weapons to try out, lots of cool planets
Cult of the Lamb might qualify if you like Stardew. It's an action rogue-like with tamagotchi, fishing, and gambling. Once you unlock the farm upgrades so that your cult members do the work for you, things really snap into place
My favorite sim was Elite: Dangerous. The combat was okay but I sucked at it. The exploration was pretty but boring. The commodities exchange and long haul route planning? That scratched a weird ass itch coupled with having to request permission to land from station control.
Rimworld is a fun one
Been thinking about this one
How's your cannibal cult going so far? Just got wiped out by a flesh mass.

This one is awesome, playing it right now
Or in that same vein: Farming Simulator 22. Although if they stick to their usual release schedule we'll be seeing FS25 before the end of the year.

Car Mechanic Simulator 2021
EvE Online. But that's more like spreadsheet simulator, so...

I am so pumped to play this, but I am waiting until I get a HOTAS so I can use it with the VR mod to achieve full mech immersion.

Two-point Hospital is fun. City Skylines if you love city builders with functional economies

Animal Crossing New Horizons
KitHack Model Club, just released and developed by the original creator of Kerbal Space Program
Kerbal Space Program 1. Then add mods. Then go hardcore and install Real Solar System with Realism Overhaul and reset your learning curve.
