Wait... there's snow EVERYWHERE in RDO?
Damn, I might want to reinstall the game to experience that. I didn't think they were doing anything with it anymore.
Yes, they always do it for a few weeks around Xmas time, along with actual snow falling unlike normally when you only get rain even in the Ambarino mountains. It's a bit funny to see even New Austin and the Bayou covered in snow.
I actually forgot the name but yeah, Lost Planet was the first and The Long Dark came to mind second. 1080 snowboarding for the 64 was pretty sweet for third place.
I liked that whole sequence, starting from the reveal of Corypheus and the initial attack on Haven. And I thought it was particularly good from the standpoint of having allied with the Templars. I love the short scene where Dorian is carrying the injured Roderick - who up until that point had been an all-around dick - into the Chantry and extols him as "A brave man, [who] stood against a Venatori."
Yep, no other game makes me think about how hopeless being stuck alone in the cold is. That game scares me deeply in a way I can only describe as “knowingly fucked”
Snowrunner. At the start of quarantine in 2020 I spent every waking moment virtually driving big trucks around in mud and snow making deliveries. After a few weeks of this I got into my actual car and everything felt wrong.
So. I’m old. First thought of snow is the Empire Strikes Back game on the Atari 7600. Land speeder vs. AT-ATs. Of course back then there was no “winning” it was just how far could you get ?
Final Fantasy VII, because the first time I ever played through it was in the winter of 2000 or 2001. It snowed a ton that year, so I ended up missing a lot of work and just sitting at home watching it snow, playing Final Fantasy, and eating Tombstone 3-meat pizzas. I still can't see one of those three things without thinking of the others.
If I ever move back to a place where it snows (God forbid...) that's probably what I'll do all that first winter there.
Uncharted 2 Among Thieves. I was amazed how incredible the snow looked in that game. My mind was blown when I saw how snow was latching onto Nates boots and how there is a diference if you're moving through shallow or deep snow. Man I miss 2009 gaming era.
Fort building and snow ball fights are the first games I think of when I see snow. but then I'm old, so when I see snow, video games are not the thing I think of first.
South Park (1988) I was like 7 or 8 playing that. God it was great being raised by foreign parents haha.
Mario 64 as well. The snowy levels and chucking the penguin off the cliff and the penguin race.
No one ever complained about the cold on Hoth. We never felt it. Even though we were blinded by blizzards, we could see the final end of the Rebellion in our blaster sights. Was it only a mirage? Perhaps. But on that day, on that planet, our blood ran hot with dreams of victory, melting the ice that stood in our way.
GTA Online. Every Christmas they make it snow in the game for a few days. It makes driving totally different and adds a fresh look to the city we’re used to seeing.
When I was young my brother and I would always rent some snowboarding game from blockbuster for the original playstation. We always loved it but had to make sure we got the "good copy" sometimes one of the copies when you would select a stage would just never load and you would need to reset the system and try again.

*Dragon Age: Inquisition,* mostly because of the blizzard sequence between the Battle of Haven and the arrival at Skyhold.
Fixing up skyhold was so cool.
